Penelope Phair #1

Fair and Just

Rate this book
Penelope Phair never saw herself as a police officer. Then again, she never expected to end up behind bars either. But after getting fired from work and beating her boyfriend to a pulp, the inside of a jail cell might be the best place for her to stay. At least it's a roof over her head.

Good thing she's got a guardian angel. After getting bailed out by her Nana, a famed supernatural investigator, all it takes is a hot meal and a hard shove to get Phair on the straight and narrow. A few months of police academy later, Phair is eager to join the ranks of the boys and girls in blue, but even she couldn't predict she'd respond to a homicide her very first shift.

Now an alchemist has been murdered, a precious artifact has been stolen, and like it or not, Phair's in the thick of the investigation. But cracking the case is easy compared to navigating the unwritten rules of the police department. Unlike what her Nana might've told her, the law isn't always FAIR AND JUST.

Different pace in this new series, intorducing the new characters and situations. Enjoyed it, and looking forward to the next in the series when they are more established.

And it continues...

I enjoy the other world of the back story , the trolls and elves and such. I also enjoy the dialog between the characters as well as the internal dialog of the characters as they try to figure things out. The mystery is interesting and the cliff hanger at the end was no surprise. I read all of the Daggers and Steele series and highly recommend it and this seems like a great start to a new series.

Ok

An ok beginning. I found the transition from waitress in jail to cop a little too rapid to be believable. I wanted more of Daggers and Steele. I found Cliff an afterthought and unnecessary- why would she have a boyfriend she lives with so quickly after the previous relationship? That said I’ll stick with it

Other than one unnecessarily detailed bedroom scene, this was both enjoyable and family friendly. The characters are believable in depth and personality. Their interactions so far promise much fun to come in the later books.

The story itself didn't provide any particular surprises, but it did deliver what was promised.

I loved this book! I read all of the Daggers and Steele books but was a little nervous to start a series on their great granddaughter. This first of the series (hopefully!) DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! This book sets us up for diving into Penelope's future adventures and I CANNOT WAIT!!
