The dead tell no tales. And the unspeakable evil they know of, may be one that would forever remain buried six feet under…
How do you solve an unsolvable string of robberies that leaves a bloody trail of murder and mayhem? FBI agent Blake Wilder is all too familiar with unsolved cases. Plagued by the mysterious tragedies that destroyed her family. She made it her life mission to solve crime and punish the evil doers in this world.
This time Blake takes on an unsolved case from her early career, one that spans half a decade. But as she and her team dive further into the investigation, they uncover another string of shocking savage crimes that are claiming the lives of innocent women. As they delve into their case, the coincidences continue to mount until the truth cannot be denied and Blake realizes that they have uncovered something far more complex and disturbing than she had ever imagined. The clock is ticking and Blake must solve this case and make an arrest, or risk losing the killers and thieves once again. And as Blake races to solve the case, a note from someone that knew her parents has the mystery of Blake’s deadly and dangerous past catching up to her. There are shadows she’s unaware of moving behind the scenes. Pieces being moved about on the board, and a force that’s frightening in its scope being brought to bear against her.
Hear no evil. See no evil. Speak no evil. But how do you avoid it when it comes knocking on your door?
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
I really like this series. I hope Elle gets picked up by an agent and publishing house as that would eliminate a few niggling littles issues and help organize things a bit better. But the stories themselves are great.
This one has an unusual aspect to it in that one rarely finds a female serial killer (though she doesn't do the actual killing, she persuades her boy toys to do that for her) as cold blooded as they come who actually walks away, a problem I hope is corrected in a later book. The story is a page turner as have been all I've read so far, I'm working my way through all of them, and will get the other series she has out too. Blake and Astra (who I wish was not as snarky as she is, borders on bullying and I just don't like people like that) stumble across a thief who has committed more than 30 robberies of the same kind of establishment across five states, but in the last two years has escalated into extreme violence, getting more so with each robbery. They stop by a murder scene that happened the same day and in short order connect nine murdered women to the robbery spree. Through excellent procedural work they are able apprehend, and get a confession from the perpetrator who refuses to implicate the woman who persuaded him to escalate his violence and added the element of killing young women to his repertoire. It's a good read.
This book introduces a new aspect to Blake's relationship with Dr. Mark, who she's never actually seen be a doctor apart from changing her bandages once in the first book, but who the epilogue shows is actually working for a group of people who do NOT want her investigating the murders of her parents and abduction of her sister 20 years earlier. She gets a call from someone saying he has information and that "things are in motion that need stopping", the name he gives her is false and a good bit of the book is given over to her deciding whether or not to meet with him. Mark discourages her, in fact they have their first big fight over her not wanting to disclose the call. He belittles her for not having gotten over her past and her years of therapy. They're apart for a few days but eventually he apologizes and makes nice and she then tells him about the call. She learns that the caller was one of her old neighbors who was actually in the CIA at the time. She decides to meet him and arrives to find him dead and his RV trashed. She finds an envelope addressed to her but we don't find out what's in it, I imagine the next book tells us that. But we do learn that Mark is the killer, he told his employer he'd actually kill her in the previous book if she got too close. There's an implication that he has actual feelings for her, and hers for him are growing - a disaster in the making. She has these great gut instincts, and she knows Mark is hiding something, but she is just sort of ignoring that and seemingly falling for him stronger by the day. Setting up quite the confrontation eventually somewhere in this series. Which is well worth reading, I really like Elle's style and look forward to much more from her.
I enjoyed this book immensely and can't wait for the next mystery to begin. I love the fact that the writer focuses on the story but weaves in several other mysteries ever so subtly, like the mystery of her parents death which brings me to something that bothers me. Ok Blake is this strong FBI detective that seems to figure things out and catches her suspects but hasn't done anything about her boyfriend. Hasn't checked him out and doesn't doubt anything he says and trusts him completely. She's sitting at the crime scene with the dead body of her family's neighbor, whom she was supposed to meet because he had information about her parents death and she's wondering who else knew she was meeting him with absolutely no connection to the fact that she told everything to her boyfriend, duh!!! Should I give it away? No, I guess you'll just have to read this book to find out why I said that. If you like real gruesome murder mysteries then you'll enjoy this series. Well on to book 4!!!!! Happy reading🌹😎
As much as I love Blake and this series, her character growth seems to be going in the wrong direction. She's a kick ass FBI agent and a supposed black belt in two different martial arts, yet she seems to increasingly become a damsel in distress. Or at the very least, getting her butt kicked. I guess it adds to the realism of it, but I don't know.
With as much introspection as she does, and that the reader is subjected to, some of her decisions seem out of character. She sits their overanalyzing her thoughts and feelings and interactions with others constantly, yet misses blaring red flags. Again, I know it arguably adds to the realism of the story, but it also feels kind of backward.
Things that have improved over the course of the series so far is the whodunit reveal. It packs more of a punch now. It actually comes from the FBI POV. We aren't just figuring it out based on the insight to the unsub we get as the audience.
📖 Book Review 📖 . . TITLE: Her Perfect Crime (Blake Wilder FBI #3) AUTHOR: Elle Gray GENRE: Mystery-Thriller . . My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 . . My Review: This is the third book in the Blake Wilder series, and honestly, it’s my favorite one thus far. I almost gave this book five stars, there is one reason why I did not give this book five stars and I’ll discuss that further on. This book has a great psychological twist, it touches on an unusual aspect: female serial killers. Although women hurting women is not very common, it is something I have not seen in books. This book is amazing in so many ways: the twist of a female serial killer and how she commits a perfect crime; we learn more about Blake Wilder’s personal family mystery; we learn more about her boyfriend’s career; and finally, we discover a HUGE secret in the epilogue. The ONLY reason I did not give this book five stars is because I wanted more from the interrogation perspective, since we’re reading about an unusual serial killer, I wish we would have had more time developing that character. Instead, Blake Wilder’s family mystery overshadows the actual crime of the book. I was left wanting to know more about the female serial killer and felt like her story was rushed. Reminded me of a show running out of time towards the end. This book was overall amazing, and I do highly recommend it.
This is the 3rd in the series. They just keep getting better and better. Blake Wilder is still in charge of her team and they are on unsolved cases of robberies at Cash and Go stores. The robber is getting more and more dangerous as each robbery now is escalating and he is beating the people that work almost to death.
When Blake and her partner, Astra find is that these robberies could be related to killings of women on the same day. Is the robber escalating his crimes? Blake is also still trying to find information on how her parents were killed years ago and her sister taken. Now, someone is contacting her telling her that he does has information she needs on their murder.
This was really a page turner and I loved it. Can't wait to read the next one!!
I am still liking this series, but the relationship between Blake and Mark is a little off putting. Blake is a smart, badass FBI agent. Her boyfriend Mark is a doctor, or so he says. We have not seen any proof of that and neither has she, not really. He is also with a group wanting Blake killed because of what happened to her parents when she was young. Something she has been trying to get to the bottom of. He is spying on her, put cameras in her appartment, etc. So if Blake is so smart, observant, etc...it just doesn't ring true that he can get by with this on and on. She should have become suspicious of him long ago. She is too smart to be taken in. Please, put Mark to discovered and get rid of him!!
Her Perfect Crime is a thriller with plenty of robberies, bloody savagery, and murder. Are they all connected? The main character is Blake Wilder, FBI Agent, who has to face each of these horrific crimes and try to solve them along with her sidekick, Astra and two other agents who are talented in technology. The team works together to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Blake must overcome her own torments while she is dealing with each of her cases. Her parents were killed and her sister was taken and is still missing for many years now. Her personal life is affected by all this and she struggles to find peace and love. This is a continuing series with these strong characters who keep the story flowing and gripping.
Meh, it's not terrible but could be a little better with some more imagination. 4th book in the series I've read; read #4 because I got it for free. This is the weakest of the 4 so far and a reoccurring cliché that has emerged for me is the protagonist is practically a superhero, overpowering "unsubs" much bigger, stronger and very clever and conniving up until Blake gets on the case, moving through the evidence and information like a super computer with no dead ends, a not very likeable workaholic that has a romantic interest fawning over them, all local LEO are antagonistic.......
Hello, New to this series. Elle Grey definitely has a style of writing that's a bit different. Not used to reading the words, "I say, and the end of her paragraphs. Once I was used to it, was smooth reading. Blake and Astra are good solid characters. I enjoy their banter, as anyone with a best friend can relate to. The mystery/ thriller side keeps you turning the pages. I'm on to book 3. The storyline is that good. Would make a really good movie as well. They wrap up the case by the end of the book. Grey doesn't leave you hanging and sets up the next book with a bang. Good read, with a feel good ending.
If I could give less than 1 star I would. Mindless drivel sucking off feds is one thing but the ridiculously numerous typos, grammatical errors, and just missing words is unacceptable to me. Pair that with the protagonist's complete hypocrisy and inability to see said hypocrisy this is hands down in my bottom 3 books I've ever finished. If my power wasn't out due to a storm and I hadn't already read all other books I could find in my entire neighborhood I would have put it down before I finished the first chapter. Do not waste your time with this garbage unless its a last resort type of situation like I experienced.
Blake and her team are investigating a murderer who robs check cashing stores and murders a person in each town the crime is committed. There are loose ends about it as one of the killers walks free. Mark is still gaslighting Blake and lying to her and she should trust her gut for an FBI agent. Astra stands by her and Pax helps out on a mysterious person that claims they have info on Blake's parents murder. Decent story but Blake still rigid that she's always right and everyone else is wrong and for Astra being her best friend she makes back handed comments about her. Blake is still quite unlikable
A unique series in that the team is centered around mostly all female characters. The investigators, the additional police force personnel, the director. Each book has had a central story of solving everyday crimes but the side story is the real story which continues yet leaves the reader wondering will that crime ever be resolved. Will the truth be told. One day, and hopefully soon, all the secrets will come to light. Hopefully our heroine, Blake, will survive the truth.
## Great addition to the series. I like the team that Blake has assembled. Their chemistry is obvious and the back and forth banter keeps the story light amongst the heinous crimes these unsubs are committing. My only complaint is that Blake is supposedly this super profiler, yet doesn't suspect her boyfriend at all? I hope that this doesn't continue throughout the entire series, because it just makes her look stupid. Other than the "killer" boyfriend, terrific read.
I really like the idea of the story, the character and the whole mystery around Blake's parents' murder. However, I do get the impression that the author is either not familiar with police or FBI procedures or simply does not know how to convey it. She makes the agents seem like hooligans who get all their evidence through threatening people. There's never a mention of a warrant. As an avid reader of crime fiction, this irritates me. The author is writing for intelligent readers who, like me, read a lot in this genre🙂
I don't know why i expected Lee Of this book but i was wrong. As I am reading thro the series, the characters are starting to gell. In the first book, they aren't as active. This book really sucked you in. The story is very interesting and has unusual situations. I am constantly reading and go for FBI or detective settings. So I have a lot of books to compare. Of course Blake is getting showed under by her love interest. Very frustrating for me. She'll figure it out and I'll find out in book 4.
Blake has been casually following a series of robberies at check cashing stores. When a check cashing store in a suburb is robbed, Blake and Asta go to the crime scene. She overheard one of the officers comment about a murder that occurred on the same night. After doing searches for similar cases, a pattern of increasing violence and murder is found. A new case is developed.
This was a complex, intense, and suspenseful thriller about a cruel and evil couple on a horrific crime spree. It's certainly one of the more complicated cases for this new team. Things seem to be heating up concerning the murders of Blake's parents and the disappearance of her sister. Is it truly all a conspiracy? Will Blake ever be able to figure out what happened to her family? I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Knew it was him from the get go. Didn't like him when they first met. Guess that means he'll be hanging on her in #4.For a smart FBI person not too bright letting her feelings and sex blind her now..He will bore me out right away. Hope she smartens up quick I am enjoying your books. Good luck Blake you're gonna need it. ( getting kind of tired hearing about mom & dad) After 20 years move on and heal so we can😈😒 Tweety🐦🐦
I wish we could give 1/2 stars, the story line is good and I like the characters, Blake and her team just get better with time. My issue is the jarring mistakes. You are reading along, completely absorbed by the story, turning pages and then Screech. The wording so mangled I have to go back and reread the last few lines. So distracting, so unnecessary. BUT I am hooked and already have The Chosen Girls downloaded and ready to open.
As the story unraveled I couldn't believe that people could do the awful things that were done to innocent people. I was glad that Blake was back in Seattle and heading up a squad of her own. They figured out who was the guilty party and managed to get a confession. Blake is still wondering about her parents murders and the kidnapping of her sister. Will she ever solve that case? I thought the story was interesting.
This is the third book in the series that I've read, and I think the writing is getting stronger. Very compelling plot, and super-evil villains. Also, the subplot of the mystery of Blake's parents' deaths moves along. Downside: things are getting more violent, although still not to the extremes of some other books I've read.
I'm hooked. Going to start on the next book in the series immediately.
This is the 3rd book in the Blake Wilder series and as good as the previous ones. Blake is a dedicated Agent committed to pursuing justice, with her team. However, she is also committed to finding out the truth about her parents. The book is exciting as it weaves both stories together and quite worrisome that the man she is coming to love is in actuality the enemy. I look forward to reading each book in the series.
I found Her Perfect Crime interesting. I didn't like how the crime part was wrapped up. There is several things going on in this book. Blake is not only dealing with a string of robberies that are getting more violent and deadly. She's dealing with a Deputy Chief that is giving her grief and causing trouble for her. The big think is Blake needs to watch her back all the way around. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Just as I was finishing this delightful thriller/mystery, I had a panicked moment thinking it might be the last if the series I had to cut over to Amazon in the midst of the denouement to order the next book in this 31 book saga! Made me happy to see I had many hours of engaging reading still on the horizon thanks to Ms. Gray. As always: start at book one for full effect.
It's like author forgets what she wrote in the book...there were certain things at the murder scenes that could easily prove guilt. When they brought the suspects in they never looked through their phones! They were recording their crimes! The one that got away wouldn't have if they had gone through their phones, financials, where they lived, their vehicle. Ughhh it's so annoying. Do better!!
For a team that uses data and numbers to predict crime, what a fun twist to see a statistically improbable crime duo. I loved the mix of psychologically deranged female killer and obsessed male partner, statistically rare as portrayed in the book. While the crimes themselves are horrendous, gory and disturbing, there’s not much detail and description to be too much of a trigger warning. TW for assault
I really enjoyed these three books. Blake and Astra are great strong women. Elle Gray knows how to tell a story and I would recommend all her books to read if you like adventure with a twist. Waiting for the fourth book to see what Blake decides and the outcome. Thanks Elle Gray for good reading!
Another good book by Elle Gray. Blake is out solving crimes with her team, when her past catches up with her. She questions her involvement with her boyfriend. She looks to her close friends for help. Will she finds the answers to what happened to her parents? Will she find out who is the robber and murderer?
