In the search for a cure to a viral pandemic, scientist Liz Meyer discovers something far more deadly…Vampires exist. And what’s even more amazing, they’re immune to the virus.
Liz is both afraid and intrigued. Gifted with dreams that reveal the future, she sees how bad the pandemic will become. A blood sample could be the solution to a cure.
Sexy vampire Ryan awakens a desire within Liz, something she's never felt before. Too bad the rest of the coven want nothing more than to feast on her blood. Can Liz get the blood she needs to find a cure? Or will it be her blood that’s taken instead?
Fans of The Vampire Diaries series and authors like Ivy Smoak, Richelle Mead, and Bella Forest will love this sci-fi take on vampires.
Kat Stiles is a USA Today Bestselling Author, and huge fan of both sci-fi and urban fantasy. Nearly all of her stories include a super power of some kind and a strong, funny heroine. If you like The Vampire Cure, check out her other series:
Originally a Jersey girl, sunny Texas is where I now call home, in a town way up north in the panhandle called Wellington. Along with the man of my dreams, I have two children: a rambunctious little girl and a sweet but vocal little boy. Three cats, three dogs and an inordinate amount of pet hair complete my household. For fun I like to read YA, horror, and existentialist fiction, as well as watch cartoons, movies, and sometimes even cartoon movies. I try not to take anything in life too seriously and I tend to smile often.
This is the first book of Kat Stiles I have read and first off I will read more. The Vampire cure was the perfect pallet cleaning read I needed. Easy to read and follow, with minor issues. It definitely was not one of those books I felt painful to read. In the beginning I felt the story needed more time to unfold, especially the love interest. The only reason I would mention this is because I could see myself wanting to savor it more. It was an easy to follow and digest book. The second half moved even faster and had me feeling all kinds of ups and downs. The end was worthy of the storyline so much so I cannot wait for book two.
Liz is a scientist and she is tasked with finding a cure to a new virus. Liz finds a cure but it breeds a new species and it has an unfortunate effect on anyone taking the serum. This was a funny story, lots of laughs. Liz also discovered that she is psychic and I love how she uses her abilities. My one question is did Ryan make it? My favourites are Amy and Liz, two kickass females who will never be victims. Don’t ever get them mad at you, lol! I would recommend this book.
This book is recommended for readers 18+ due to adult content.
I listened to this book on audible. At first the storyline was amusing with all the references to the hell we've been through with President Trump and the COVID virus. It got old really quick. Instead of coming up with something a little original, everything is the same except with the addition of vampires. Even the symptoms of the virus were identical. It wound up being less original Urban Fantasy Pandemic story and more a roast of Trump mixed with a love letter to stereotypical vampire romances.
The narrator was not great. The main character is supposed to be a nerd and socially awkward so I didn't mind the narrator at first. But, the longer I listened the more irritated I got. Her speed is inconsistent, reminding me of William Shatner's Captain Kirk, and nearly emotionless. When it came to the sex scene, the delivery was cringe worthy. It was just all too monotone for my taste.
Overall, it was not the worst read I've ever had but it was miles away from the best. I won't be continuing with the series.
What a great read, I loved the protagonist Liz Meyer from the very start; she is a gifted scientist, who works for a private laboratory researching cures for various diseases. She was fast tracked through education and has always been a bit of a loner by circumstance and focuses on her work. She becomes aware of a virus, which will lead to a pandemic and starts immediately researching it for a cure, knowing she has to get the jump on her ambitious colleague Frederik. Another person in her way is the owner of the company, Ronald Lamp, who also happens to be the President. Liz is however not alone any more, she is aided by her, worldly, sassy research assistant Amy, who happens to have a knack with computers and befriends her at the same time. Add to her load the worry about an ill father; disturbing dreams, that seem to come true; a creepy vampire stalker and the temptation of a hot, sexy vampire and you have one fabulous book full of action, paranormal suspense and steamy romance.
The basis of the story is a very interesting twist on the current pandemic, mixing it up with modern day vampires and a cheeky, irreverent and thinly veiled parody on a certain, now ex US President ... and let’s face it there is plenty of material to draw from. The facilities and procedures in a research lab and hospital seem well researched and laid out and all the characters are well thought out and believable. Kat Stiles always has a wonderful way of portraying her female protagonists as intelligent, strong and forthright, whilst having a vulnerable, at times insecure side.
I’m looking forward to the next book...
I had the pleasure of receiving this book as an advance reader copy from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Liz is working at a cure for a virus that is sweeping the world! And trying to save her dad who has an illness! Needing to stay one step ahead of her rival Frederick, she has to step it up, there are people relying on her. The author tells us Liz is a brilliant scientist, and that all men are idiots! And that’s how it starts and ends! Liz has no time for people especially not men! But meeting her new assistant (Amy, who is lovely) Liz begins to see them in a different light!
There were a few political jokes in here, and if you take it for what it’s meant to be (tongue in cheek) then it’s a good read. It’s a mixture of genres and liked them all. I did have to chuckle at the president (who also runs/owns the company Liz works at)
Ryan is a Master vampire, meeting Liz (well rescuing her) causes problems, his coven want her blood and Liz wants theirs (to study) can he really let her take his blood? He finds her fascinating, but so does his coven!
Meeting Ryan gives Liz the boost she needs, his blood is the key to finding a cure and possibly helping a few other people too! But will she go the sneaky way and take it without his consent, or can she persuade him to help save humanity?
I don’t know, I liked it, I just didn’t love it. Too political? Maybe. I liked Liz, I liked the fact she had dreams/premonitions, (and she knows how bad this virus will ruin the world) so it gave the paranormal feel to it.
I did like the ending. It leaves it open for another book, so let’s hope Liz and her buddy Amy work out how to stop the virus from spreading.....
“The Vampire Cure” by Kat Stiles marks the start into the new “The Vampire Cure Series”, which blends supernatural fantasy with science fiction, current events and some romance into a fast-paced and action-packed story around Liz Meyer (FMC) a scientist intended into find a cure for the viral disease that is decimated the human population. Almost by accident she discovers the existence of vampires, and even more importantly their immunity to the disease. For Liz this is a double-sided discovery, with her precognition gift she knows exactly how dangerous the disease will become; and thus, she is both, utterly scared by the discovery and ecstatic by possibilities. Driven by her desire to find the cure she accepts a dinner invitation to the local Vampire Mansion, and finds herself torn between her attraction to the master (Ryan) and the Coven wanting her blood.
Kat Stiles approach to the vampire myth is original, modern, and genuine, interweaving classic tropes (lust, immortality) with scientific elements (pandemic, cure) and the timeless notion of love/hate attraction, gives the story a unique twist. A very enjoyable read with relatable characters, credible events, and interesting situations.
This is a story based on current events. This is skewed politically and can be controversial to some readers. The story itself is a parallel to what has been going on in the world in 2020, but with a vampire storyline. I like the idea. Liz is a research scientist, having a dad with COPD, she has the hope to find a cure someday. As she is working on a project, she is drawn into the search for the cure of a virus, a pandemic affecting the world. As she is researching, she ends up with a stalker. Who is this man? Luckily, Edgar, a police office seems to be on the job and comes to her aid. James is a stranger who intrigues Liz and comes in and out of her life. Galen is her stalker. Why does he keep coming after her? And who is this James? Amy is a research assistant who is the opposite of the quiet Liz. The two begin a friendship. When Liz is invited to a party, Amy pushed her to go and invites herself along. Unknown to Liz, this is her introduction to the world of vampires. Amy believes, but Liz does not. This is a wonderful story with twists and turns and interesting story lines. Except for the political parallel, this story is awesome. I voluntarily reviewed an a Reader copy of this book
This started off like a disaster thriller ripped straight out of 2020's headlines. Researcher stumbles on mysterious new disease that looks like it could be really contagious but government is trying to cover it up. The research - and story soon take a turn for the paranormal as some rather unusual things come to light, or rather er, scurry around in the dark. Soon the virus is no longer the biggest of Liz's immediate concerns.
Fast paced, often irreverent book that pokes fun at men in leadership (both political and private) who are often depicted as being incompetent and concerned more with compensating for certain inadequacies than than in doing the right thing. Political positions are never overtly stated but pretty thinly veiled and may be polarizing to some readers. Not an "all men are evil" either though - there are some good guys (and gals) once our MC opens her eyes to see them. Sometimes being a strong woman means knowing when to trust others to have your back!
First book in a new series, this can be read as a standalone - no huge cliffhanger ending but lots interesting questions and problems for future books.
Gosh! I got a blast out of the reading this! Even if it is scary. The only thing I didn’t like was the death of.. not going there, no no, no spoilers here. The work Elizabeth does is crucial. Not only in this book but in real life. Without those researches we wouldn’t be able to live as we do and there would be no hope of a better future. This is the main point in this story (at least for me). Hope. Elizabeth never loose hope, even if the events were piling up in the worst directions, she never believed in failure. Hope is what has her battle against everything and everyone in her way to find a solution, a solution to be able to save the life of thousands or even millions of innocent people. Big thumbs up for this!! Oh, and there might be as well some funny things happen... and hopefully Teddy is coming up in part two. Perhaps with a rescue????...
Liz is a scientist working in a private government lab. She learns of a unknown deadly virus that is spreading throughout the world. She begins to search for a cure and learns that vampire bats are immune to the virus. She is accosted by a strange man who attempts to kidnap her, but is rescued by another. She receives an invitation to dinner at a millionaire's manson and takes her assistant, who tells her the manson belongs to the local Vampires. She is skeptic, but realizes it is true. She finds out her rescurer is part of the Vampires. She decides to try and get some vampire blood to try and find a cure.
I received this book free from the author for my review of same.
Liz Myers was a scientist looking to find a cure for a virus threatening to become the next world-wide pandemic. Starting with vampire bats, she made some progress. She experiences an incident in the park that convinces her that vampires really do exist! And not only are they real, but there is a chance they could possibly be the answer to finding a cure for the virus!
Risking her own life, she will try to make contact and find one who will give her some blood for her research. Will she succeed in this unusual request? Or will she put herself in the very worst place for a human to be?
Liz is happy working for a private research company even if she is only searching for a solution to low testosterone. When she comes across an article about a nasty virus that cropped up in a South American country, she decides to investigate the virus. She acquires some vampire bats and some of the virus and goes to work. This story has some creepy moments, some ah-ha moments, some action, and some steam so a little of something for everyone. The only downfall is the cliffhanger. Highly recommended.
This is a great start to a new series. Liz Myers was a scientist. She was working on a cure for the infectious virus that was quickly becoming a world-wide pandemic. She initially started experimenting with vampire bats and then mice, but she started having bizarre results. After an attack in the park, she comes to realise that vampires (of the human kind) do actually exist. Even though it is putting herself at great risk, she decides she has to get some vampire blood on which to experiment.
A topical.storyline, I liked the premise, excellent idea. The Writing a good it's just missing a little something I cannot define to make it great, The novel seems to switch from a straight medical story to a vampire story to a love story and then back again. However Its definitely worth reading for the idea alone. I hope there will be more from this author I would like to see how her style develops. A solid 4 star book
I really liked The Vampire Cure. This was a fun read with references about a virus and a former President that you will know. I loved Lizzy and her assistant Amy. Plenty of action in this fast paced read with a bunch of creepy Vampires and one with a heart of gold. Plenty of room for a book #2!
I give The Vampire Cure 4 stars for its fun read. I would recommend this book to Paranormal Romance fans.
This is a rather poorly written book. The writing is rather basic without the rich descriptions really great books have. A reader wants to be pulled into a story and feel like becoming part of that story. This book read more like an introduction to creative writing assignment leaving the reader flat with nothing to immerse themselves in.
The story is inane with to many ideas going on within the plot, viruses, vampire stalker, vampire love interest, psychopathic vampire leader, and a virus cure causing people to become vampires. Keeping the plot simple would help to enrich the story instead of trying to cram all sorts of ideas into one story resulting in a very vague story.
There was no real chemistry between the male and female protagonists. Much of this was due to the basic writing style of the author and to many ideas for one book. Simplifying the plot would leave more time to build the romantic attachment giving the reader a reason to care about these characters, especially if there is no happy ever after ending.
I did enjoy the fictional president who was definitely modeled after a certain orange president recently voted out of office.

I really enjoyed this book. Liz is a very dedicated scientist, combined with skipping a few grades and her fathers heath - she has become a workaholic but very lonely. Throw in a world pandemic and the realisation that vampires actually exist and Liz is thrown into a whole new world. There was quite a bit of science in this book, explaining the experiments, but nothing you couldn't follow easily. I loved the way the president was portrayed, it did make me giggle and I'm sure it was not a million miles from recent reality. I wanted to see more of Ryan and Liz- I didn't feel like he was around enough for them to have formed a lasting connection, definitely more of an instant attraction. I listened to this as an audio book and narrator Clare Silver does an amazing job. She manages to put emotion and feeling into the characters, not just reading out the words.
Talented scientist Liz Meyer is working on a cure for a deadly pandemic. Little did she know…she would discover vampires exist! Liz is gifted with dreams that show the future, seeing the how the pandemic will ravage the world. If only Liz can get a blood sample from a vampire…
Review:
The narration :
As always Clare silver knocked this one out of the park ! She is one of my favorite narrators! She does such a great job with all the characters' voices.
Book:
This is my first book by kat Stiles and I enjoyed it ❤️. This was a nice lighthearted listen. It did have a few emotional moments but some good humor as well. I will note: I do not follow politics at all so the humor in this didn’t bother me. If you need a good vampire humor book then go check this one out on audible !
I'm always looking for a new paranormal romance book. When I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of The Vampire Cure 2, I immediately got the first book and started reading. The author is very good at making the story flow so well you get sucked into the life of the characters. For me it was a great mash up of real world issues and some of my favorite book series all rolled in one. If you're a fan of Vampires and want a good laugh along the way this is a great read. My only problems with it are, 1. How fast a read it was. (It only took me 3 days to read both books) I wanted more words, more of the story. 2. How President "Lamp" is, but then again I wasn't too fond of him in the real world. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.
In her lab, Elizabeth observes the progress of her experimental mouse, thinking about the article she read about a brand new virus she would like to study.
Meanwhile, her mouse squeals and falls, completely dead...
-----------
An imaginative, original, astonishing and very entertaining novel that mixes genres, which made some passages a bit confusing for me.
The dystopian plot is captivating, very current (if we exclude the vampires....) with a few allusions against a certain (ex) well-known president.
In the search for a cure to a viral pandemic, scientist Liz Meyer discovers something far more deadly…Vampires exist. And more important than it all they are immune to the virus. Will she be able to discover why and can she use that knowledge to save the human race. Put all of this together and you have a brilliant read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.
The Vampire Cure is a fantastic start to a great paranormal series; it's wonderfully written and well-plotted with an intriguing premise. The cast is terrific; they're well-developed, diverse, and appealing; it was easy to get invested in the story. Liz was my favourite, she is well-rounded, dedicated and strong-minded. The storyline is fast-paced, interesting, entertaining, with added romance and steam.
Clare Silver did an excellent job bringing the characters and the story to life. I enjoyed both the writing and the narration. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this book but to me it was like flashing back to a couple popular books but with a scientist trying to find a cure for a sickness that is strangely like covid... And a president just like Trump. It me there was Several major points taken from the sookie Stackhouse series and the twilight saga. A girl falling in love with a vampire, gifted humans, I'm leaving to protect you, and more. All in all it was good. The writing was on point. I just wish could say that it was an original take on this stuff.
This was my first experience with Kat Stiles' work, and I enjoyed it. The story revolves around a scientist, who is looking for a cure for a pandemic, who also happens to find out that vampires exist. The author's words drew me into the story, and I listened to the audiobook in one sitting. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I recommend the book to others, but please note that there is some steam in its pages. Clare Silver's narration is great, and she adds to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
I loved the book but hearing the pages come alive in this audiobook was a new higher level of love. The narration was on point and top notch. Clare Silver truly did justice to Kat Stiles' FANTASTIC, book. It is an original vampire storyline that is comparable to none. I highly recommend this audiobook & can't wait until the audiobook for Vampire Cure 2 comes along. Kat Stiles (author) & Clare Silver (narrator), y'all are awesome!
I liked this story, a fictionalized version of the recent pandemic. I personally was entertained by the similarities between President Lamp and another recent office holder… I liked Liz and was rooting for her throughout. I’m definitely curious about what happens next, especially when it comes to Edgar and Ryan. 😉 In the audiobook, I thought some of the phrasing was a bit awkward in the performance, which distracted me a bit.
The MC is a research Doctor working on a cure for ED, when she hears about a Virus in South America dealing with Vampire Bats. She approaches her boss at the research facility to study this virus and try to come up with a cure. The owner of the Facility is the US President who seems to be a carbon copy of the 45th President in USA. This to me was Hilarious and worked with this Story very well. Narrator did a wonderful job with the characters voices and the entire storyline.
Well, I’ll just be over here DYING for book 2. Seriously though—this was a great read! One sitting, interesting, intriguing, highly relatable FMC (for me anyway), humans introduced to the supernatural world, vampires, good and evil, corruption … a virus outbreak that very much resembles real life at times, but has a supernatural twist … and … a cliffhanger.
