Two dead kayakers.A horrifically injured child.Somewhere in the dark depths lurks a monstrous beast that threatens the very fabric of the San Juan Islands community. For reporter Adele Plank it is a mystery that will push her to the brink of self-destruction and leave her to face some very hard truths about who she has become and the things she is capable of doing.
Deadman Island is the seventh riveting installment of the ongoing San Juan Islands Mystery series by USA Today featured author, D.W. Ulsterman.

“This series has been very enjoyable. I have become attached to the characters in these books. I think of them as interesting friends.” -Amazon customer
Best mystery series….and set in the San Juan Islands!
Every now and then a book really stand out. The story is interesting, compelling to finish, and characters become so real they feel like friends. There are useful tidbits about life, dealing with adversity, importance of loyalty and friendship sprinkled in.
This series starting with The Writer, has all that, and it has been set in the very special place, the San Juan Islands. After reading the first book in the series, I read the next, and the next, and the next until finishing each book that is available written by Ulsterman. This series has become one of my favorites, I’m spreading the word to other readers, San Juan Islanders, friends and cousins from the midwest and everyone I talk to about books. If you like a well told story, read one, then read them all!
I have read many series. I am here to tell you i could not stop reading these books. They left me in terror,my heart pounding. Sleepless until i could start the next book. I am sitting here it's late, and i have so much emotion coursing through my mind and body. Book8 isn't coming out until the summer. I am devastated to have to wait that long. I will move into another series i have neglected. I will be waiting with baited breath until summer when book 8 is released. If you start with book one i guarantee you will be hooked,or in my case a prisoner until you finish the last book. The hunger for the next book is unrelenting.
Just reading the prologue will make you not want to stick a toe into the waters in the San Juan Islands! Nature has a way of putting humans in place and the community is dealing with a killer who they can't see. I've got to say I am enjoying the heck out of all of this series. I love the characters and the area and the mysticism that plays a part in the islands. If you've never been to the San Juan Islands, you should treat your self. They are beautiful. There is so much there, and if you just want to see nature and beauty on display, it's everywhere there.
I have to say I have become enchanted with the tales of the San Juan islands, thanks to Mr. Ulsterman. What started as an interesting story in that first book has turned into a compelling saga. As an author myself, I relish the way he paints his tales that makes me want to read more. And isn't that the wish of all authors. Thanks for the entertainment. Mike
Being from Seattle and been around the islands off and on for 70 plus years the stories are very hard to put down! I've told my sobs and children how great the islands are when with the weather, waves, sea and people. Thanks to a very talented write with a great imagination!
An excellent telling. It is such a delight to read such a well crafted tapestry that weaves these rich characters together with every twist and turn playing out seamlessly yet rich with mystery and wisdom.
I really enjoy the mystery and back references that the writer uses. Very engrossing and hard to put down. You feel the characters develop and feel the power of the storytelling. I can hardly wait for book 8.
I really enjoy the San Juan Islands Mystery. This one, pretty exciting, with a mysterious beast attacking from the water, or, in the case of the little girl, picking victims right off the pier! Looking forward to the next one.
A crazy story with lots of twists and turns. Love how the odd old characters show up throughout the stories and how they help to make sense to all of the craziness.
I did not want this book to end. It was filled with adventure and was intellectually truthful. I live in the San Juans and enjoy boating between the islands. Although I am 80 years old, I love to explore these waters, usually alone. This book also reflected the stress and tension in university life. I spent 35 years teaching at a university. This book reminded me of why I retired early. Please keep writing. You are a very gifted author.
After the last book, I was just about ready to call it a day with this series. Absolutely nothing happened in the last book, it was just a set up for this one. Well, I can honestly say that I am very glad that I did not give up because this book totally got me back into the series and I can’t wait to start the next one.
The danger and threat of danger throughout this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is a bit of a twist in it as well with one of the characters and I shed some tears about it. Adele is still involved with Roland and their relationship is progressing. The rest of the characters are very prevalent and we get to catch up with all of them.
One of the better stories in the San Juan Island mysteries series. All the familiar characters with a new villain and a sad story. Sherlock Holmes in a sweatsuit. Adele Plank uses her journalistic integrity and unstoppable fortitude to thwart a despicable plot to take control of the Islands. Interestingly the Bowmans are casually introduced into the mix of and forgotten characters are fondly considered! Enjoyed the book very much!
