Ghost & Camper Kooky Mystery #2

Murder on Honky-Tonk Row

Rate this book
Will camping in the country music capital have Mabel kicking up some saw dust… or line-dancing to her doom?

Despite their good deed in Savannah, Mabel Gold’s ghostly friend Irma remains stuck in Purgatory. So when the plucky sixty-something divorcée pulls her haunted vintage camper into a Nashville campground, she’s expecting Irma to accompany her on the tour of the Grand Ole Opry. But as they two-step into a honky-tonk for some live tunes, they’re shocked to encounter two lost spirits stranded there for the past twenty years after their double homicide.

Though St. Peter hints that solving the long-closed case could get Irma through the Pearly Gates, Mabel has little time to uncover the culprit before she’s due to boot-scoot off to the Badlands. But when shady financials surface and threaten to ruin the honky-tonk owner’s run for governor, trying to help the poor souls pass on could land the fearless sleuth in a whole heap o’ trouble.

Can Mabel collar the killer before she’s singing country-western with choirs of angels?

Murder on Honky-Tonk Row is the second book in the lighthearted Ghost & the Camper kooky mystery series. If you like wacky characters, quick-witted banter, and crooners with a twang, then you’ll love Rita Moreau’s clever caper.

This is a Cozy Mystery with Ghosts, and this is the second book in the Ghost & Camper Kooky Mystery series. I loved the characters in this series, and I really love the Ghost characters in this book series. The mystery in this book was fun, but it also pulled me into it. I loved all the craziness the characters got into solving this mystery. I also love that more characters can see the ghosts in this book. I cannot wait for the third book in this series. I did win a kindle edition of this book from a Goodreads Giveaway, but this review is my honest feelings about the book.

Mabel is traveling around the country in a camper with a group of friends. She also has one uninvited guest along with her, Irma, the overdressed ghost who often takes on the persona of the outfit she’s wearing. Not only does Irma talk about her life but directs Mabel to other lingering ghosts in the area. In Murder on Honky-Tonk Row they are in Nashville where they come upon the ghosts of a man and woman who were murdered. Mabel and her friends need to find out who killed these people so that Irma can get in good with St Peter and out of purgatory. I enjoyed this story and loved the interesting characters the author created both in this world and the next.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and have left an honest review.

Another fun read in this ghost and camper series. Irma is such a fun character. Lots of ghosts, craziness, and corrupt politicians in this one. Looking forward to what happens when the campers reach the Badlands in book 3.

I received a copy from the author from a Goodreads giveaway.

Read my complete post on Rosepoint Publishing.

While I didn’t catch Book 1 in this series, I found Book 2 no problem to jump right into. Mabel Gold is pulling her own Airstream and traveling with fellow Airstreamers Bob and his wife Lili, retired schoolteachers. and an aspiring country singer named Joe.

There is enough backstory to bring you up to date along with the skinny on the Airstream’s resident ghost, Irma, and how she came to be haunting the travel trailer. Irma is busy earning her way into heaven and has a few good deeds yet to do, but her specialty seems to be that of seeing other ghosts in limbo, trapped between worlds, and helping them to cross over. Of course, Mabel has the ability to see not only her, but other ghosts as well.

Mabel and her buddies have camped in Nashville for some sightseeing on their summer journey west and Irma quickly notes two specters. They set to work to discover what happened and must do it quickly before they are due to move on.

The writer’s style has a delightfully mischievous twist, both in developing her characters as well as designing the dialogue, making for a very entertaining narrative. The mystery is a good one, progresses well, and pulls the reader back into another time with a common crime then, one possibly forgotten but easily remembered.

There is dirty politics, cops, secrets well hidden and slowly exposed. I enjoyed the friendship between Mabel and Lili and the scenes conjured in the campground with early morning coffee smells and cinnamon buns. (Fun to relive those camping memories.)

Well-paced, great characters, and a good mystery make this a quick and fun cozy. I’m looking forward to Book 3.

Nashville is the next stop on the summer camping trip. After introducing the reader to Nashville hotspots, a trip to a famous honky-tonk bar leaves Irma and by extension Mabel and her camping buddies with the task of discovering who murdered two people two decades ago.

“If you like wacky characters, quick-witted banter, and crooners with a twang, then you’ll love Rita Moreau’s clever caper…”

It is always fun when a promise is made and kept. This book is full of wacky characters with snappy dialogue that makes turning the page a privilege rather than a chore. The well-written, quirky characters are the core of the story and with a couple of new additions to those returning from book one, there is more to love this time around.

The mystery comes at a fair pace and makes this book a quick steady read. This is the second book in the series and reads well enough as a standalone, but for the full effect of the camping summer of fun picking up book one is recommended.

So many ghosts

Continuing across the country helping ghosts they come across. The gang happens upon two ghosts, a dirty politician, and some thugs. This may not be your usual vacation but Irma needed help to leave Purgatory and they were ir. I can't wait to see what they stumble upon next.

I always love a ghostly element in the cozy mysteries I read. And I love Mabel, a sixty-something divorcee who is plucky and free to seek new adventures, despite being single again. This is my first read in this Ghost & Camper Kooky Mystery and enjoyed it so much that I will look for the other books in this series!

Kooky is Funny

Mabel has five adult children. Several years ago her husband had an affair woman the age of their youngest daughter. When the affair caused a pregnancy, he divorced Mabel and married Tiffanie. Meanwhile, he was plastic surgeon to the Mob. So, Mabel decided to move from Long Island to Florida and was having a great time with new friends. Lili and Bob took her to the Keys in their camper and she loved it, but didn't want to be a third wheel, so she bought a vintage camper and a pickup truck to pull it and agreed to go with across the country this summer. The things that happen are very interesting and often funny -..- kooky! It's great to have characters who are not in their twenties. Older are capable.

The Ghost-Camper journey continues to Nashville and Honky-Tonk Row. Mabel and her friends are excited to visit some of the famous Nashville locations, and Mabel’s daughter, Cecelia, comes for a visit. Mabel, her camp travel friends and her Ghost-friend/Roommate, Irma, work to figure out why a young couple, Molly and Luke, were murdered outside the Honky-Tonk, The Last Call. Molly and Luke are in limbo and unable to move on until their murders are solved. Irma adds her own unique, unpredictable flair to the goings on. Mystery. Humor. Travel. Loved it! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

This is a cute cozy mystery. Mable has bought a camper that is haunted. The ghost is a woman who changes outfits to suit her mood. She must do good deeds to get out of pergatory. Apparently, that means she must find murderers and help the victims cross over "that Rainbow Bridge". So, Mable and her fellow traveling companions help solve murders. In this instance, the victims are a young couple who were shot 20 years ago outside a honkytonk. She's quite a loveable ghost so I found myself rooting for her. I didn't read Book 1 of this series but still was able to enjoy this book.

Irma is back and getting Mabel and Lili and Bob involved in trying to solve a twenty year old murder so two ghosts of a young couple can move on. Irma is hilarious and unpredictable with all of her wacky outfits and wacky ways. The group is in Nashville and are joined by Mabel’s daughter, Cecelia, who comes to visit her mother and winds up staying longer, Many other fun characters join the the mystery solving, including Lili’s twin sister. Plenty of action and lots of twists. Looking forward to the next stop on the camper journey.

While you can easily and happily read this second book in this spin-off series from Rita Moreaus's successful A Mary Catherine Mahoney Mystery series, I enjoyed it as the second book of its own series.
Mabel and friends purchased Airstream Trailers and are spending their summer exploring the south western part of the USA.
Mabel has daughters who are very different from each other. The cautious worrier wants Mom to settle into a place where she will be cared for in her "old age." The unconventional one understands their mother's desire to explore all life has to offer. The Dreamer is discovering that dreams change as years pass and is joining Mabel on the road while she figures out her own next transformation and path. Her story includes a bit of romance with a friend Mabel meets on the road.
Besides the invited friends, there is a ghost, inherited with Mabel's camper. If you have not read the first book, you'll find her story well covered here. Irma is a handful, both for Mabel and for St. Peter.

As the group pulls in to another campground, they find themselves pulled into another mystery. This one tied to a very cold case murder and a crime seen quite often in the music industry of decades past.
In present day it continues to be tied to dirty politics and so many secrets I can't begin to tell you.
Lots of family connections to explore.

You have to pay attention to see how and IF things are connected and who is in danger on each page.
It is not all dark and dangerous. There are laughs along the way. I love the characters. When you think they are making progress, there is a turn and complications.
Irma, the resident ghost, keeps things very interesting and once Mabel and Lili become curious they can't let go until they solve each case.

Rita Norway is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This is the second book in the Ghost and Camper Kooky Mystery books and I LOVED it. I can't wait to see what happens when Mable, Lili , and Irma get to the Badlands! I'm excited for the next mystery and the next stop! A very exciting adventure

I loved book one, but book two seemed to have more of the same times three. I couldn't put it down. The characters are so much fun and with the addition of a couple more, just made the story so much more intense. And the mysteries just kept coming. I love this series and this author, Rita Moreau. Can't wait for book three. A big thank you for the price break on this book.

Meh…

I enjoyed the story well enough but didn’t care for the ending. Didn’t much care for the ending of the first, but thought I would give this book a try because I enjoy the overall writing style of the author. I doubt that I will try the 3rd, since Rita has established her method of solving mysteries. Moderately well edited, not perfect - but nothing is…the few things I caught were my pet peeves “there for they’re” and such.

Good second book

I really enjoy this series. The. Author draws you into the story line and makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. The characters are warm and welcoming. Its a good series for someone who wants to camp but doesn't want to be in the great outdoors.

I haven’t read the first book in the series but there was enough background information that it wasn’t a problem. I liked the mix of characters, especially the ghost, Irma, and the author’s writing style was easy to read. I did feel that there were too many things going on though for the mystery to be wrapped up in such as short time.
