Repentance

Rate this book
In every age, and far more in the present deeply uneasy, tired and unsettled age, nothing is more useful, more indispensable and more salutary than repentance. Often man wishes for nothing else more deeply, even though he has no clear notion of what he really wishes for. An extremely great and invaluable gift is being sent from heaven at the moment when the sacred words of absolution sound in the ears of the penitent as he is kneeling before the confessor. As holy Chrysostom says, there is no medicine other than confession for blotting out sins. It is only there that the handwriting of our sins is torn up. It is only there that the filthy and dirty soul, the soul drenched with and set in the deadly poison of sin gets washed and is made clean and rendered "as white as snow and as wool".

It is a good book om the Sacrament (or rather, Mystery) of Repentance, though Western influence(especially Protestant pietism) is felt all throughout it, thus making it not the best option for Orthodox readers (the target public he is addressing himself to, seeing that the author was an archimandrite). There are surely better books on this that authentically express the Patristic and Orthodox fronema on the matter.
