David Hickson is an award-winning filmmaker and writer from South Africa. His work has included internationally released feature films, television series and live entertainment television shows (he directed more live TV than was good for his health). David travelled to Italy in 2010, an adventure that he and his family, including two young troublemakers and an assortment of very spoilt and demanding domestic animals, are still enjoying. He loves walking and cycling in the hills of Italy, drinking the local wine, and telling stories that entertain and stir the emotions of his reader.
I was on the edge of my seat reading this well-executed novella, which has plenty of drama, attention-grabbing characters, great dialogue, and intense scenes. It is an engaging and informative read. Ben Gabriel, the main character, is an enigma that can be either a protagonist or an antagonist. This page-turning plot has betrayal, ethnic conflict, manipulation, deceit, hate, and pretense, building up to an ending that I never saw coming. I am looking forward to reading more narratives by this author.
Nothing is as it seems. A soldier turned bureaucrat - still an assassin. A plot in Burkina Faso. Why is the soldier really there? An unexpected twist in the end. I’m looking forward to further adventures with Ben Gabriel. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
