Surviving in a dangerous universe relies on having good neighbors. The Edenites have escaped the dumpster fire of authoritarian government on Earth only to discover their Kaerin neighbors on the other side of Eden’s quantum “street” want them dead. The friendly Jema have returned to Chandra in the hopes of freeing their home planet from the Kaerin, but they need help. The Jema need a toehold on Chandra from which to launch their revolution; the Edenites need allies, and the Kaerin are now faced with an enemy that doesn’t fight fair.
Small town kid born in Idaho, raised in Eastern Oregon. I left the Northwest for the CIA. Twenty eight years and a ton of travel mileage later, I am living in Northern Virginia with my wonderful family and still writing. You can follow my progress and blog at www.smanderson-author.com
I've waited until I read the four books before writing my review and can say that the story flows wonderfully. These are on a par with the great Edgar Rice Burroughs and his tales of Barsoom with his hero John Carter. Also if his lost world within our world and of course the legendary Tarzan stories. Well done. Mr Anderson loved reading your books and looking forward to the next exciting story
I enjoy this series! It keeps me coming back when my attention begins to normally lag in other series after book 2 or 3. In this one I am happily looking forward to #5. There are little editing issues here and there but that does not detract from the story in my opinion. Keep the story moving forward!
I normally take a break when I am reading a series of books, if only to allow for a little decompression. I didn't with this volume. I went from Volume 3 to Volume 4 without a break. This is an indication of how captivating I found the sequence to be and how engaged I was with the storyline.
It's yet another tale about good guys against bad guys, in a world with very little nuance and not a great deal of subtlety. However, like John Wayne movies, it works. I think that I am ready for an absence of moral ambiguity. I want to be told who to root for and who to root against. I don't want a simple tale to leave me with doubts about who I want to prevail. This book provides all of that. It's pure escapism. Of course, we all know that the real world is far different, but it's nice to get away from it from time to time.
The book continues the story of mankind reaching outwards within a sequence of parallel universes. That in itself tells us about the improbability of the storyline. However, we have suspended our disbelief and accept this as perfectly normal in the world. The book concentrates upon the establishment of a Beachhead - a safe staging area - in the discovered world of Chandra. The name of the book gives it away and the story tells us how it is done. I quite enjoyed the story line.
By now, I would imagine that only fans of the work and the author are left reading the book. It makes little sense without the preceding three volumes, and it paves the way for a fifth volume. Each book is now clearly an instalment in a larger sequence. I am not tired of the sequence, so I shall jump in with Volume 5 when it arrives. There are great bedtime reading books.
Kind of love this series. Every book is another single episode. Not really my style or genre(I like needlessly wordy, nuanced + hallucinatory adjective use where your soul has to understand the character/author to understand what meaning any particular word is being used to mean, in biological/social conflict dystopias - this is really just a military action story, despite being with an alien race on a different planet, with blunt practical concise prose). But it was very enjoyable. I like a multiverse story. The characters are really well developed. I hope by eventually they defeat the Kaerin and start talking about farming and all the extinct animals that are still alive on Eden. Forget about the things we killed in the last 600 years by introducing invasive species and the last 100 of massive pH shifts, think about the species in the last 30'000 years we've obliterated (for being delicious, too scary, or being competition).
And starting on a pristine planet except with all of the science and industrial and technological knowledge and none of the planetary costs Earth bore to learn those things (mining, leaded gas, CFCs, dioxins, that dickhead who ate all the giant tortoises). Also I hope they go to do humanitarian missions to Earth and bring coral cultures to rebuild the Great Barrier Reef. Show us what happened to the Earth as the situation there deteriorated/progressed.
“Bridgehead: The Eden Chronicles,” Book 4 continues the entertaining saga of near time escapes from Earth establishing small colonies on a pristine parallel earth, and combating other wannabe colonists from a third parallel earth on the ‘new’ earth, which includes battling on the enemy’s home world to free its enslaved inhabitants.
It’s a fluid, quick reading story with decent characters, though the ‘shampoo writing syndrome’ of the scifi indie series genre has taken firm root — shampoo, rinse, repeat — which undermines an otherwise enjoyable ride.
“Bridgehead...,” was read via Kindle Unlimited, is recommended with the caveat of not having read prior books, new readers will be somewhat a sea.
Total a homemade grown Avenger Love the characters each 1 of them had special Training for what I lo
I was overwhelmed and the sense of death of gratitude for the brave men and women that put themselves on the line to make a new beginning without the political dick heads and And soft hands without any knowledge what forever what they are getting into or talking about the character that I see most of all that they try to avoid and let the military and everything else do they have jobRetards The research that the scientist are so conscious of contributing it's unbelievable the new toys although they been existence but have been used for the benefit of establishing a new earth or second earth recall it new beginning with out political fears
Establishing a new colony and uniting the bronze age tribes in New New New Britain. A new home for the jahindi and striking back at big bad guys, (audio book + made up works make it hard to put in a review). A lot of hit and run strikes using some quickly advancing technology. The door knocker is a great piece of kit and I loved how it was used. A bit of the backstory of the big bad guys is revealed near the end. I really look forward to the next book. Hopefully it continues the good move of dropping most of the political crap and leaves us with just Earth v. Earth action.
I can see the comparisons to our world wars. the poor masses under the feet of the oppressors rising up has universal appeal. these people are so much the same as earth ers, but then even more peculiar!use and extreme; I enjoyed it greatly. I am a Louisiana and appreciate how your swamp honed the warrior from the bayou. there are really a lot of us like Jake, and strong women fighters with guts as well.
Enjoyed this one - Think this series has reached a natural conclusion now though. Story was good and the characters are likeable and predictable in their behaviour. Would I read another in the series if there was one? Most definitely yes - I've enjoyed the series and they've been believable in the tech and action they've portrayed. Hold the press - There is another! Just got it 'The Wrong Game'!
This is a good read. It is easy to follow and unlike the other books in the series does not jump between worlds as much. That said the grammatical errors were frustrating as was the assumption made and the way the author did not finish some progression but left some side plots unfulfilled. One book left but do not know how tge author will be able to cleanly tie up the loose ends
The series is an excellent alternate earth tale. I would like to have seen a bit more of the Eden colony development and a lot less of the eventual traitor as that goes somewhat against the original Eden recruitment ideology. That is truly a minor thing though, and the overall story is outstanding.
Thanks for writing an entertaining engaging and fun story, I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and have hardly set them down before finishing. Your characters are liken the guys I grew up with and work with and the fantasy is one I would want to live. Thanks for the great work!
When the 4th book came out, I couldn't wait to start reading it! Having read the first 3 books, I knew the author would not disappoint in the continuing chapters in his next book. He did not! It was thrilling, it was exciting and absolutely a hard-to-put-down book. Can't wait for book 5.
This story just keeps getting BETTER! It started out as one story, and I bought it. It spoke to my desire for a change from a doomed Earth with its F*cked up politics. Now we are turning into the technological invaders.... I can't wait for the next book... Don't make us wait too long.
I have really enjoyed the whole series and look forward to book five. An interesting and exciting plot with believable characterization and back plots. I thoroughly recommend This book, well researched and accurate in it's description of small and large military unit operations it also builds into a mu!ti-faceted saga of suspense and intrigue. A fantastical read.
Marvelous action, good bad guys, good characters. The weapons sound real (6.5 creedmore would be an excellent round). The tactics were pretty much easy to follow, since the bad guys had such institutional arrogance that believed slaves couldn't fight and win against them. They were right, but they were fighting free men that wanted to stay that way.
I am writing this review after having read the first four books. I could not stop reading this series. It starts a little slow but once it grabs you, good luck putting it down. If you like Weber, Ringo or Drake this set is for you. My only complaint is that I am now stuck waiting for the next book.
Totally a fantastic series, characters are relatable, lovable and realistic. The story line is believable and truly has you engaged and a part of the world S.M. Anderson has created. Can't wait for the next book in this series. I totally recommend this series for any sci-fi fan or anyone of good stories to read, certainly does not disappoint!!!
I grabbed this the day it hit the Kindle "shelves" and read through without wanting to put it down! The story line is excellent, as is the character development of the new faces. Now I can't wait for the next installment...well, I guess I have to!
S.M. Anderson is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. The 4th book of the Eden Chronicles is just as good as the first three books. I cant wait for the 5th!
Would have been five star without the editing problems. Interesting characters, fresh story line. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Hope I don't have to wait so long for the next.
A decent continuation of the story. I do feel like he is continuing the story for the sake of making it longer. I feel the story could end fairly quickly, but he opened the door for a possible continuation after this one is wrapped up. Overall good though.
I found this series by accident and am thankful that I did. The storytelling, characters, and large battle scenes are all well written. I typically read through the series every few months and am eagerly looking forward to the next book!!!
Good series, well told. Still some editing errors - the guy’s name is “Hans” not “Han’s.” I’m ass uming autocorrect errors. But this was a real page-turner.
Loved the world building. Loved the characters. Good solid writing. (Especially volume one needs editing , though). Looking forward to the next volumes. I've found some details get into a repetitive fit. Not this one
This one was basically the Terrans and Jima handing the Karin their backsides. The infiltration and war planning was interestingly done, rather than just hey-diddle-diddle right-up-the-middle attacking them. Feels like it ended too soon, as the story continues on from here.
