Sante Notarnicola (1938-2021) was an Italian revolutionary, writer and poet, former member of the Cavallero gang.
Born in Castellaneta (Taranto) in 1938, he moved to Turin and in his youth he joined revolutionary and anarchist groups. On January 16, 1967, during a robbery in Cirié, the band of robbers to which he belonged killed the doctor Giuseppe Gajottino. On 25 September 1967, when the Banco di Napoli in Milan was stormed, the police intervened and four people died in a shooting. Notarnicola and Cavallero were arrested on 3 October after their escape and on 8 July 1968 they were sentenced to life imprisonment. His story inspired the movie Banditi a Milano by Carlo Lizzani.
When imprisoned he published L'evasione impossibile (The Impossible Escape), published by Feltrinelli, which became a cult book for radical left-wing culture. He also published several poetic writings.
From the mid-nineties in semi-liberty he began to manage the Mutenye pub in via del Pratello in Bologna. Since 2000 he was a free man.
