I loved it. But I'm still mad that it was only available for UK/US/AUS peeps when the novella was literally sent via email. Makes no sense. Please think of international readers. I'm lucky a kind soul offered to send it to me.
this was the preorder incentive for Sophie Gonzales' recent book, Perfect on Paper
hello this was genuinely?? so good?? like I mean I have absolute faith in Sophie Gonzales to always write amazing things, but preorder incentive short stories/novellas are often just fluffy and substanceless because that's the nature of them, and this was like . . . next level. the thing is I think I could have read this with no prior context of Only Mostly Devastated and still been just as invested, and it genuinely had its own satisfying arc. even knowing what happens (since this is a prequel novella), I was on the edge of my seat rooting for Ollie and Will and like . . . that takes some skills
anyways this was also very painful so I'm gonna go cry now and be sad I don't own a copy of OMD to reread lmao
It was such a great short story! It was so nice to read more about Ollie and Will, and to see how it all really started! Now I really want to re-read OMD.
This novella was a bonus offer when you pre-ordered Sophie Gonzalez's new book, Perfect on Paper . It is a prequel of sorts featuring characters from her book Only Mostly Devastated , telling the story of the summer they met.
I enjoyed this so much. It felt like it wasn't just fan service -- it actually added to our understanding of the characters and their relationship. And while it was basically a 90-page love story, it still carried some of the major themes from OMD that made that story so raw and real (death, illness, being in the closet, etc.).
Also like OMD, it was hilarious. I missed these characters. Thank you, Sophie, for giving us more time to be with them.
UHM, BEST PRE-ORDER BONUS EVER. I missed Ollie and Will so much, and this made me want to read Only Mostly Devastated all over again. If there's one thing Sophie Gonzales is good at, it's making incredible chemistry between her characters.
Perfect on Paper has shot way far up on my TBR. Now that it's finally here, I can't wait to start reading it!! :')
This novella was super adorable!! Ollie remains one of the funniest narrators, and him and Will are super adorable! Now I wanna reread Only Mostly Devastated ahdsjnvbfdjhnk <3
Sophie Gonzales is so incredibly talented when it comes to writing Young Adult Romance. I can't point out specifically what is it that makes her writing feel so genuine, but it completely is.
This took me so long to read but it was so cute. If you're looking to read Only Mostly Devastated, 10/10 recommend reading this first. My chief complain about OMD was that we didn't see enough of their early romance, and this is the early romance I wanted!

OH MY GOD IT'S FINALLY AVAILABLE. I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN WAITING YEEEEEEEARS FOR THIS!!!!
Damn...I finally got around to readig this (the prequel to Only Mostly Devastated) and now I really want to reread Only Mostly Devastated...but my library has neither book as ebooks so I have to wait until I'm back home...
But anyway. This was cute, sweet, and honestly a really great prequel to the events that happen in Only Mostly Devastated. Dare I say...this might be what the book was missing? I loved seeing what transpired that summer and feel even more for Ollie, going to school and not understanding how Will could ignore him.
I can't believe this was free?? I wish all pre-order incentives were this great tbh.
I loved Only Mostly Devastated, and when it was announced the pre-order incentive for Perfect On Paper was a prequel story for Will and Ollie I was so excited!
This definitely lived up to the hype, it felt like reading headcanon fanfiction, but it's actual canon cause the author wrote it lol.
Anyway, 10/10 loved it. Everyone go read Only Mostly Devastated please.
Unbelievably beautiful. I rarely like prequels but this one is just amazing, the writing felt more mature and the characters and their relationships were so good it hurt right where I wanted to. This is a must read for fans of Only Mostly Devastated, and I kind of have to say that I sometimes liked it more than the novel itself (sorry!).
This was so stinkin' cute. Honestly one of the best preorder incentives ever. It was so well written, and I think I'd of been just as invested in it even if I hadn't read OMD before. I'm off to go re-read OMD now
Super cute. This prequel novella fulfilled the details I felt were missing in the original novel. Full of love and makes me want to reread “Only Mostly Devastated”. A fun quick read for those who have read the original!
