“The body has an amazing ability to heal. We just need to give it the right resources.” In Overcoming Estrogen Dominance, Magdalena Wszelaki, best-selling author and founder of the popular Hormones Balance community, empowers women, giving them hope and the tools they need to take back control of their hormones and their health. More than 70% of women experience estrogen dominance. The symptoms range from lumpy and fibrocystic breasts to thyroid nodules, hot flashes, fibroids, uterine polyps, painful, heavy or irregular periods to infertility and miscarriages, from mood swings to insomnia, weight gain to fatigue. So many women have experienced the pain and frustration that comes when, sitting in their doctor’s exam room, they feel their symptoms and complaints are dismissed or minimized. They feel unheard, helpless, with no control over their bodies or the underlying issues that are causing their debilitating symptoms. This is particularly true for women who are experiencing the symptoms of hormone imbalance. Even when doctors do offer treatment, it’s typically in the form of prescription medication or invasive surgical procedures. In Overcoming Estrogen Dominance, Magdalena shows that those extreme interventions are often unnecessary, giving women a roadmap to ease and erase their symptoms using food, herbs, supplements and natural protocols to re-balance hormones. This book also shows women that they are not alone, introducing them to a large community of other women who are facing the same challenges and seeking the same solutions. Magdalena’s goal is to help reverse the impact of estrogen dominance naturally, helping women lead a symptom-free life, without fear.

I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I received my education from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. Before becoming a health coach, I had a long, fast-paced career as a strategic planner for the advertising powerhouse called WPP in both Asia and the US. I am also a regular Vipassana (insightful) meditation practitioner and a Level II Reiki healer (a form of energy healing).

My own journey with health issues and the failure of the medical world to adequately address them started with Graves’ Disease (an autoimmune condition that causes hyperthyroidism) in 2001, later Hashimoto’s Disease in 2008 (an autoimmune condition that causes hypothyroidism) and adrenal fatigue stage 2. In 2012 I was diagnosed with estrogen dominance and high heavy metal toxicity.
Every part of my journey made me wiser, kinder and more patient. Today I’m in remission from Graves’ and Hashimoto’s, my adrenals feel rested and I have managed to reverse my estrogen dominance. I feel better today as a 40-year-old woman than I did in my twenties.
As part of this exciting, often frustrating and self-discovering journey, I founded Thyroid Diet Coach, a highly successful nutrition coaching practice helping women with thyroid conditions to heal and thrive. Hormones Balance is the expansion of my practice.
Every part of my healing journey had elements of significant dietary and lifestyle changes. I now believe in good, clean food and no restricted dieting.

The key focus of my work lies in the restoration of the digestive system, balance of a person’s sugar levels, liver detoxification and emotional wellbeing, like self-love. I put my trust in the healing powers of real food, sleep, and emotional healing.

This books offers a comprehensive explanation of the importance of hormonal balance for women, independent of their age, deep diving into symptoms, possible diagnostics and functional practices.

I particularly liked that for every statement you could understand the practical steps to follow; you can tell this book is written by a woman who experienced estrogen dominance.

One thing that I think is missing is offering the shopping list and 7 days meal plan also in a digital format, like it offers other information described in the book. In this way I could have printed the shopping list and used while shopping and also printed the 7 day meal plan to attach it to my fridge wall.

I recommend this book for every woman, no matter that you are estrogen dominant or not, as there is a lot to learn for improving your health!

I have high estrogen levels so I thought I would read this. I actually liked many parts of the book, even though this sort of book is very against my values (as a nutritionist who isn’t into healthism or anything that demonises foods). This book definitely demonises certain foods especially the usuals: sugar, simple carbohydrates, pesticides, etc. The book makes off the cuff comments on certain foods but doesn’t explain why that’s the case (eg “sugar reduces vitamin levels in the body” says who and why??)

I liked the suggestions for gut and liver health. The section on blood sugar balance made me want to pull my hair out.

I skimmed the section on the “28 day protocol” and the recipes - they are extremely restrictive and really unnecessary. It’s funny, because the author says she “doesn’t want people to hyper fixate on food” but that’s exactly what this book is designed to make people do.

From an eating disorders nutritionist and therapist: don’t read unless you ignore all the food hate and misinformation. But I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would! And I’m looking forward to trying some of the recommendations for my estrogen levels.

I cannot recommend this book enough if you struggle with (or think you might) any type of hormone imbalance. Very thorough and well-done; I found it incredibly helpful!

I wish I had known most of the information in here thirty years ago. I could have avoided a great deal of suffering and health issues! Now It mostly affirmed the path I am currently taking with diet, but it also informed me of new issues such as toxins in cleaning supplies, skin care products.

Excellent!

Really appreciated the info and recipes. Makes it clear and brings a lot of things into perspective. Also the meal plans for a couple of weeks means the theory is easy to apply. I’m a fan!
