Rate this book
Book One, In 2042, Kress and her friends are all that’s left of their bombed-out and isolated mountain town. When Kress and all the other seventeen-year-olds are taken away by the Recruiters to aid in the fight against the invading Eastern Order, they find themselves in a secret military training camp that’s turning more mysterious and deadlier by the day. Book Two, Having escaped from the Processor, Kress and her fellow Seventeens go on the run. Guided by Render, they undertake a dangerous, enemy-filled journey west where they encounter the Insubordinates, a guerrilla army of counterinsurgents led by an unexpected but familiar field general. Now, Kress and her Conspiracy are preparing to expose the government’s lies about the Eastern Order and reclaim the democracy so many of them and their families died trying to protect. Book Three, Aided by the Insubordinates, Kress and her Conspiracy wage a daring counter-offensive against the Patriot Army in an effort to liberate the city of San Francisco. Outnumbered, facing impossible odds, and opposed by a powerful and ruthless enemy named General Ekker, Kress and her friends hope for help as they struggle to understand and control their emerging abilities.

K. A. Riley is a writer of speculative and science fiction, dedicated to creating worlds just different enough from our own to be entertaining, intriguing and a little frightening all at once. For Riley, writing isn't a job. It's a laboratory where readers can wander into a land of ideas; it's a playground where they can scamper around, giggling, gasping, and freaking out to their hearts' content.

Riley is the top-secret pen-name of a NYT and USA Today best-selling author.

The book is not bad written or anything. But it felt very childish. I think it was just not for someone my age, and better suited for young teenagers. I just couldn’t take it seriously with a 14 years old leading adults and other older teenagers in a revolution.

Some things were never explained, like Kress flying and whether rain and cardyn had abilities as well. The plot is pretty predictable and the books move very slowly. The last one is definitely the most boring one, it took me a good month to finish it.

The plot and idea of the book was impressive and the characters were all well thought out, but for me, everything was just so slow — too slow. After the third book (there's another six with separate trilogies after that) I stopped reading because I knew nothing was going to happen for the next few books. It just felt like it was being dragged out very slowly so that there could be more books, and I eventually just grew bored of the plotline because nothing was being changed and no climax of the book came.
