"[Britney Ruby Miller] is a change agent who brings the possibility of transformation to all those she leads and influences. From hostess to CEO, Britney leads with courage and humility and impacts the lives of her employees, family members, community, and beyond." —Ford Taylor, Founder, Transformational Leadership
Crisis rarely comes with a warning. When blindsided by trauma, betrayal, or soul-crushing news, it’s natural to want to give up.
Is it possible to rise above calamity and even thrive despite the turmoil? Britney Ruby Miller, entrepreneur and CEO of a nationally ranked, family-owned restaurant group, says yes, it absolutely is.
Having faced family tragedy, peer rejection, infidelity, infertility, and a pandemic that threatened not only to close her family’s business but also to decimate the restaurant industry, Britney battled back with the winning combination of faith and fight that has led to her five-star life.
Britney demonstrates what it means to live authentically and effectively as a strong woman in leadership. With captivating stories and practical applications to lead you deeper into principles for success, this book will show you how to increase your faith and hope in the midst of challenges, setbacks, and even tragedy as you persevere to attain your own Five-Star Life .
“Every battle [Britney] has faced has been hard won. The scars she has received have become the stars she has earned…. Sit down. Relax. Enjoy. Savor. You’re about to experience a delicious meal.” —Kathie Lee Gifford
I have not heard of the author before but I found her story interesting. She grew up in a family that was famous and had a childhood filled with fancy cars, big parties and lacked for nothing. Most of us would love a life like that but for her she wanted something different. I like her honesty in saying that she didn’t appreciate all the hard work her parents did to give her a good childhood. Growing up with famous parents made her a target for bullying. It is so sad that kids bully others simply because they are jealous. But through all the tabloids and rumors the author became stronger and shares her struggles of trying to please everyone.
One of the key points in the book for me was that it doesn’t matter what others think of you. It matters what God thinks and what you think. We shouldn’t let others control us with their hurtful words. Overcoming the sting of hateful comments can be a struggle. The author points out that we need to focus on God and not allow the enemy to saturate us with things that draw us away from God. It is hard to ignore words that are meant to hurt but I think about the scripture, “ Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
The book is definitely filled with encouragement and shares how to overcome the obstacles that may get in our way. God has a plan for each of us and as the author shared her story, I liked reading how she leaned on God. I loved it when the author said, “sometimes you have to persevere through the darkest nights to make it to the brightest days ahead.”
The author shares the Five Foundations For A Five-Star Life with scriptures, personal stories and Biblical characters. I like how transparent she is as she shares her journey and found that it was up lifting. This would be a great book to use in a group as a Bible study or to use on your own to grow closer to God.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
I’ll admit that when I started reading 5-Star Life, I had no idea who Jeff Ruby was or why he was well-known. But I was somewhat intrigued to read a book by his daughter, even though I knew I would not love it because of the overall message it conveys. It was interesting learning about what life was like growing up as the daughter if a restaurant owner, and even how Britney worked her way up the adder of Jeff Ruby Entertainment. However, there were some things that bothered me, and a lot of things that bothered me, and a lot of it has to do with my personal beliefs regarding God, and just some theological differences.
First off, i do want to say that I appreciate the author’s openness about her and her husband’s struggles with mental health. This stuck out to me as someone who has recently started working on their own mental health and trying to work through the stigma I grew up with surrounding this topic and that is something that is still somewhat taboo in some Christian circles.
While the author has an engaging writing style, one thing I didn’t like was the message that if you just work hard and pray hard enough, you too can be as successful as she is. And, true, some people are, but others can work hard all their lives and never become a CEO. Sure, success is and should be measured in different ways and sometimes that is touched on. But I think it does border on promoting some of the same ideas of the prosperity gospel (but maybe that’s just me).
Overall, 5-Star Life was just okay, it seemed like any other book written by successful businessmen and women – their life struggles and how they achieved success and how you can too with certain steps. I just could not connect to what was being said. Again, it was just okay. 3/5 Stars.

I am always drawn to a good self-help book, so I was glad to find Britney Ruby Miller’s book, 5-Star Life. Initially, the title caught my attention, but I wasn’t sure what to expect beyond that. In reading the book details, I determined that I know nothing about the restaurant business; however, I know a lot about heartbreak, obstacles, and tragedy, so I figured I would give the book a try. I am so glad that I did!
Britney did a fantastic job of discussing her life which was filled with a lot of brokenness along the way. However, she did not stop there. She was deliberate in sharing how faith in God transformed her life and allowed her to fight for the people and things most important to her.
The lesson I learned from reading 5-Star Life was less about business and more about faith. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great business points that as an entrepreneur, I will use, but even more important to me was the reminder that if you keep God at the center of all that you do, you will be unstoppable.
If you are looking for a self-help book to take you to the next level on your faith journey, I highly recommend 5-Star Life. Although it covers topics you may have seen before, I can assure you the way Britney delivers the message is entirely unique. She draws on personal experience and uses a very conversational tone which is refreshing. She is undoubtedly a business expert but also a humble person with a great desire to help others.
5 Stars for 5-Star Life.

We all strive for a "5-Star" Life and Britney Ruby Miller thought she has achieved that. Britney Ruby Miller is a Wife, Mother, and CEO of a chain of Steakhouses in the Midwest. She had thought at a time that her life was put together.
Life started hitting HARD at Britney and her family. She recognized that her family life, her Business and even her faith were being challenged and could cause failure at any given moment. Britney has fought the battles of rejection, feelings of low self-esteem, family tragedy, infidelity, infertility, and most recently the global pandemic that threatened not only to close her family’s business. Britney didn't let these challenges define her, she instead set out to OVERCOME.
The 5-Star Life and sees Britney focuses on these 5 things:
* Partnering with God to live the life you were meant to live * Working together for a strong family life * Cultivating a unified, loving marriage * Pursuing excellence at your job or business * Giving back to others in your community and the world
WOW!! I found this book to be extremely encouraging. The 5-Star Life The Faithful Fight to Overcome Obstacles and Pursue Excellence came together as Britney began to OVERCOME her fears and instead set out to CONQUER them. The strongest thing that Britney discovered that her Faith was struggling and once she allowed God to give her guidance, things began to change for her. I really like how Britney puts FAITH first, and then marriage and family. The premise is once those are in order, the rest of life will fall into place and bring out the "5-Star" Life so many want to achieve. The book is one of LOVE, Faith and Happiness and Encouragement. FANTASTIC BOOK!
This is an impressive memoir with lessons on Christian living. One might think Miller is a privileged woman, daughter of a successful business owner. But she is quite open in sharing her own tragedies and mistakes and how God saw her through. “He doesn't always rescue us from the consequences of our choices, but He is faithful to lead us back to higher ground if we let Him.” (965/3768)
This memoir contains good insights in two major areas. First is in living life. Miller is honest with her life because she hopes readers will be encouraged by her example to live their best life. She includes many life lessons on relationships, marriage, and parenting. She shares her feelings on her husband's infidelity and her own pain from miscarriages, and PTSD and anxiety after an automobile accident. Second, she tells us of her experiences in learning the restaurant industry, working through all the positions, finding mentors, and finally moving into management. She even shares how they made it through the Covid restrictions.
Miller invites us to see every crisis we might encounter “as an opportunity to learn and grow.” (3631/3768) She helps us do that by recounting her own experiences and the spiritual lessons she learned from them. The book contains practical information for business owners, such as in handling complaints, and for Christians, such as taking the steps to forgiveness. It is well written and inspiring.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
To be honest, while I used to enjoy self-help books much more, in recent years I must admit I've fallen a bit out of love with the genre more and find that I don't reach for them nearly so often. To be honest, while I loved the title of this book, I had no idea who the author was and living a completely different life from her or knowing nothing of the restaurant business, etc, I wasn't expecting to get much out of this one personally. I was however pleasantly surprised by it however. I definitely felt that this came across more to me as a personal story, and not a true self help/how to book, which I personally do find much more enjoyable and relatable too. While I certainly cannot relate to every aspect of the author's life, there are certainly aspects of her story that I could. While our personal circumstances and trials may vary greatly, we all deal with obstacles and trials in our lives and as such that definitely made her story one that we can all appreciate a little more. Overall, a good read and if you enjoy a good faith based non-fiction read, this will certainly be one worth checking out!
**I received a complimentary copy of this book for consideration. All thought are my own.
I must be completely honest...I absolutely hate self help books. They are just not my cup of tea so reviewing them is so very hard. I know everyone is different and I also understand that some people need these type of books to help them get better at something or find some type of connection to other's that may be going through the same thing or have gone through it and have come out for the better. Now that you have my whole thoughts on the matter I will tell you what I thought about this one.
The biggest takeaway for me out of this book is not to rely on yourself but on God. No matter what others may think of you, the only opinion that matters is God's. The author does a great job at bringing everything back to scripture and is very raw and honest about the personal things in her life that brought her to where she is today. Her testimony is to me the highlight of the book.
If you enjoy self-help books then I definitely recommend this one.

Although labeled as a self-help, inspirational book, I’d call this a memoir. It is basically autobiographical, sharing the ups and downs in the life of the author and her husband, Caleb, and they have overcome plenty of trials and heartbreaks. She shares honestly and totally vulnerably, recounting their mistakes and healings. It is definitely a redemptive story and does offer an example and advice for those who read 5-Star Life. She especially emphasizes relationships, first with her parents and later with Caleb, and all of them with the Lord. Even though she is part of a famous restaurant empire and married to a former professional athlete, she still makes her message relatable and pertinent. I agree that life is a spiritual battle for truth and the future. This might be an interesting, authentic choice for a book club discussion. I love this quote: “in a way, those of us who have been the most bitterly wronged have the greatest opportunity to exemplify our Savior to the one who has harmed us.” I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. all opinions are my own.
5-Star Life is a self help, inspirational book that is written by Britney Ruby Miller. I have not heard of this author before. One of my favorite things to read is biographies and memoirs. I like to know where people came from and how they got to where they are. This book was a great read. The author grew up with famous parents and wanted something different for herself. With famous parents she was bullied. (I did not have famous parents, and I was bullied in school due to my impoverished situation).
One of the most takeaway lessons that this book is that the author pushes that it really does not matter what others think of you - it matters what God think of you. The author shares her journey of growing up, choosing her own path, leaning on God and scriptures that got her through. I love her honesty and rawness. The author shares a lot of her personal journey, her husband's infidelity, miscarriages and so many other things she had to walk through. This was a great read.
I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program, all thoughts are my own.
Though labeled as a self-help book, I found 5 Star Life contained so much more than just self-help. It includes part memoir, part entrepreneurship journey, along with a journey of faith. I loved how it felt like the author spoke directly to me rather than talking at me. I appreciated reading about how Britney Ruby Miller dealt with various crises in her life. From her father to her husband to battling infertility, Britney Ruby Miller faced many challenges in her life, but this book illustrates how she faced them with faith.
I think one of my favorite parts of this book stemmed from the birth of their daughter Grace. I loved reading about how she and her husband Caleb fell in love with her immediately. I appreciated how the author shares the good and the not so good, and how God has been with her on this journey. So if you want an excellent book to read, check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
5-Star Life takes you on the journey that the author went through as she shares her wisdom with us on how to put God first and maintain success in all aspects of your life.
You’ll get up close and personal with Britney as she shares about all the aspects of her life from being a CEO to being a waitress, from not being able to have children to becoming a mom, and so much more. Tragedy affected her life but instead of sending her into a downward spiral, she allowed it to push her upward and onward to better things with God at her side. By relying on Him she has achieved a lot.
I found this book a good read. Britney shares her experiences in a down-to-earth way that makes the book easy to read and everyone can find something to relate to.

"5-Star Life: The Faithful Fight to Overcome Obstacles and Pursue Excellence" by Britney Ruby Miller is labeled as sell-help, I find it to be more of a memoir of her life and struggles and how she overcome them. I specially like the chapter dealing with different viewpoints " Blueprint Worldview" and Warfare Worldview". I am going to be doing more research on these.
My favorite quote from the book is " God sees you according to your created worth and potential-not your actions of yesterday or even today."
She does end the book with a summary of how she overcome the many obstacles, such as the unfaithfulness of her husband, miscarriages and Covid and others.
I recommend this book to readers that really needs to see that God is there even when it feels like life is falling apart.
This book was an inspiration to read.
I was given a complementary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
I found 5 Star Life: The Faithful Fight to Overcome Obstacles and Pursue Excellence by Britney Ruby Miller to be a beautiful book to read for me. It is wonderful reminder of what faith and hope can bring for us all. It is an important part of having a better life. I found it to be a useful tool for me. I thought it was great.
5 Star Life: The Faithful Fight to Overcome Obstacles and Pursue Excellence is getting a very well deserved plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for reading who are looking for inspiration on how to succeed even after experiencing difficult times. I would like to read more by Britney Ruby Miller.
I received a copy of 5 Star Life: The Faithful Fight to Overcome Obstacles and Pursue Excellence from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
This is a good read. To me it is more of the author's story rather than self help. I do think that it will be helpful for a lot of people who read it. I like her life outlook and how honest she is about everything in her life. It is different from most self help books that I've read before.
It isn't just people with bad childhoods who have issues to deal with in life. I know a lot of people who had good childhoods that have what people would consider minor issues, but then we don't know truly what they are dealing with. I'm really glad I read the book because it made me think more about where I stand with God and what all is going on in my life. Good read.
4/5
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
I loved reading this book and getting to know Britney through reading about her life as a wife, mother, and CEO. Having worked in the food industry through my family's bakery for years, I could relate to some of what she shares bout the business side of her life (though our business wasn't near as successful!). More than the interesting information about the business side of her life, was that of her relationship with the Lord and how it has carried her through many difficult times in life. This is a wonderful book to pick up and read, one that will help grow your faith.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit. This is my honest review.
This book was not what I expected. There is much about Miller's and the Ruby restaurant business' history, to be sure, but Miller is utterly transparent about the role of her faith and of God in her life. Miller is also quite direct in translating her spiritual perspective into specific action items for the reader. She wants everyone to learn from her experience. The book is very faith-forward, which I enjoyed. It is refreshing and heartening to hear Miller describe what she experienced, losses and successes, and how she puts God first through it all. She persevered through a lot, has come out stronger for it, and continues to work hard to grow the business and give back to the community.
I heard of Britney Ruby Miller when she was on a podcast-and I knew I wanted to hear more of her story. And wow what a story. I love how through every hardship and struggle-she clenched tighter to her Lord. For someone who had all the excuses to blame and hate Him… she sought His peace and comfort instead. What a testimony! I am so glad she included the hardships on Covid 19 on restaurants. 10% of the US workforce is in food industry…and many didnt recover. Thankful for her honesty and am glad I read her story.

5 Star Life by Britney Ruby Miller started off as a challenging read for me due to its heavy focus on negativity and religious themes. However, as I reached the end, I found myself inspired by the author's journey towards a more positive and uplifting life. Despite my lack of religious beliefs, the book encouraged me to keep the faith in a spiritual sense. Overall, I am grateful for reading this book and the message it conveyed.
Nothing less the 5 stars for this book! I listened to the audio version and ended up buying a hardcopy before I finished it so I can share it with our family. I'm not sure how to review a book that I feel has changed my life. Thank you Britney, words can't express my gratitude!
I would give this book 6 stars out of 5 if I could. This book makes the list of books that have changed my life. How cool this is about our dear city of Cincinnati!
Inspiring autobiography of @britrubymiller who has overcome so many challenges in life and business with her aggressive faith in God. Loved hearing her talk about Pastor Cathi, a mentor we share.
Britney opens up about the most vulnerable parts of her story to show readers how far she’s come and the lessons learned along the way. Britney walks us through her journey of becoming the CEO of her families nationally ranked restaurant, Jeff Rubys (so good!!). Her story is short of a walk in the park, Britney faces true adversity and shows us it is possible to rise up and keep going. I loved how real and raw Britney was willing to go. She models pursuing excellence, taking action and trusting God.
