What will you do when you realize you've been living a lie. That a happy ever after was nothing but a betrayal. That your husband leaves you for another! Shelly woke up to a nightmare. Her husband didn't love her. He loved his boyfriend. Suddenly she was abandoned and then she befriends alcohol. Alcohol made her speak her mind in sticky situations which made her lose her job, her sister, her friends and almost everything. Will she overcome her frustration or keep spiralling down?
DNFed the moment the narrator turns out to be quite homophobic. And cut down with the swear words. It doesn't do much to the writing or to the plot or to the characters. It doesn't do anything other than making the reading bad.
Well, TBH I literally forced myself to finish this book as this was so over-the-bound for me. It starts *poisonously* , bocomes even more toxic in the middle and then gradually paced up to slightly better one(get the differenc, not a good one) .
The Protagonist was depressed bcoz of her husband abandoning her over another "man" and she just negative and disheartened over everything happening around her. She takes all the events around her badly and interpret into something senseless, illogical and tragically. Then, because of her interpretation and longings mixed with her ego she started having nighmares which was solved by a Taro card reader & she just goes with the flow.... meanwhile events happens which leads to drastic change in her and story started making sense and was readable.
Truthfully speaking, not just the character but the narrative was also so toxic on the beginning that anybody, even someone with a rational mindset can also dnf this. The thoughts of her was so loud and irritating that there was time it is difficult to keep going but as it proceeds atleast narrative become better let alone the Protagonist, who is not-so-disgusting only in the end.
Also there are parts that describes homophobic mentality in it's worst possible way. And not to forget the constant use of abusive language and cuss words at every particular sentences. 🥲
I know this is common to use abusive languages and cuss words in real life... but why connecting a story, a fictional work with real life in the exact possible way!!!!.🤔🤔
There's no way I am gonna add this book on my Instagram post.... not right now. .
With these type of storyline... I am just starting to hate new-age Indian Authors 😑😒
Happily frustrated is a short story of a woman who is frustrated from her miseries. Theme of this plotline is self-sabotaging. I have read her previous book but I was highly disappointed with the plotline. The protagonist is selfish and has a habit of victimizing herself. The storyline is simple and humorous. It can be read in a few hours. I didn't get why she wrote this story and what this story wanted to portray. Nonetheless, it can be read by beginners.
Happily Frustrated, by Ritiqa Pachauri, is a quick read that is the story of a woman, freshly out her broken marriage and how she deals with it.
Shelly is a middle- aged woman, whose husband turns out to be gay and that breaks off their marriage and with that the friendship that they had shared for a long long time. Shelly is unable to deal with the shock and the change in her life and takes to drinking to calm herself. Her drinking increases way too much and she practically turns into an alcoholic. Cold and insensitive to her family and friends who are trying to help, she starts distancing herself from them, hurting them all in the process. Her family still doesn’t leave her side and her mother sends her to a solo trip to Goa where she can have some change of atmosphere and do some thinking about how she can get her life back on track.
I like the potential in the plot, so much so that it kept me turning the pages. But I believe the execution could have been better, though I surely didn’t see that climax coming. Pachauri has created a flawed lead to keep it real. I hated Shelly for being mean to every good person. She is self-indulgent and has the habit of constantly victimizing herself as if no one else deals with heartbreaks or has any problems of their own. Even when her mother in the hospital, she is rude to her. Inspite of all this, she is surrounded by caring people who don’t leave her side. I would have loved to see a more realistic character development of Shelly. I did not like the portrayal of Shelly’s husband as his gay character is written in a very stereotypical manner, as if Shelly’s concern wasn’t her broken marriage but that is was broken by another man. I like how Pachauri writes about some very important aspects of life like being a single parent, unconventional way of motherhood, divorce, homosexuality and most importantly alcoholism. She highlights the role that AA’s can play in the life of someone who wants to quit drinking. The core message of the book is to find happiness in small things of life and enjoy them. It is nice weekend read to relax and chill but mainly for beginners. I won’t recommend it to people who are mature readers.
This book is all about Loving yourself. Even whatever happens we need to love yourself, because that will give us some energy to live. I know it's easy to say, but that's life.
This anecdote is about a beautiful lady named Sheila Prasad Ayyer(Shelly), our Protagonist she is a working women and married for almost ten years. He learned that her husband is gay and he is loving someone. When that happens her entire life got shattered. They got separated.
After Shelly's divorce her life got even worse. She is in the habit of using more alcohol. She took her alcoholic addiction to take out her frustration and pain. She lost her job, her family seemed distance from her, she lost everything to this addiction.she lost her job most importantly.
One thing that I applaud is that her friendship with Sabina and Kashish. It is one to desire and I wish everyone of us try to have some handful of friends who can stand with us, even in our bad times. The convoluted relationship has been elegantly chronicled in this book. Kuddos to the Author for this wonderful story...
Author portrayed each character very Beautifully. This book is a very light read. All inclusive it was a fun read. The piece of information this story gives us is much more important to all human beings.
Have you ever felt tired, sick or frustrated? It happens at times, when are going through an awful time and still, you have to go on and continue with the work and daily life!
Ritiqa Pachauri, through her novel 'Happily Frustrated' presents us one story where frustration is up to the par but still, you have to continue with the life. Our protagonist, Shelly, has no happiness left in her life. Her husband loves him and not her & hence they had to part their ways! Out of pain, alcohol becomes her companion. Out of anxiety, she says many things which she didn't want to say, that results in losing in her friends and family problems. Will Shelly be able to save herself?
Reading Shelly's story was like as if I have already met people like her. Ritiqa, here, has done an impressive job by portraying Shelly in way which seemed to realistic. The character sketch of every single character is done amazingly, making you feel as if you're watching this novel live. Everything was fine about this book,, but only it had a plain sailing and slow paced narration. I felt that the author could have worked more on the style of presenting the story. Overall, it was a good read and I definitely recommend it to readers who are looking for quick and light reads.
The stage of frustration comes in everyone's life. This originates from feeling of uncertainty and insecurity which stems from a sense of inability to fulfill needs. If the needs of an individual are blocked, uneasiness and frustration are more likely to occur.
Book expresses a story of a frustrated woman shelly. She got aparted from her husband after 10 years of their marriage because her husband was loving someone else. She started drinking alcohol to get relieved. She wakes up with red eyes every day. Because of all these situations, she started doing mistakes in the office As she used to forget some important designs or documents to submit on time and being late for the meetings. She gave a funny name "Lady Dragon" to her boss. She lost her job because of her mistakes which she did. She had a fight with her sister. By all these, she reached at the stage of frustration as nothing was going well in her life.
The end is happy and refreshing. After all she changed herself. She started loving and believing herself. All should read this book in order to know how one could eliminate stress and frustration from life. All should read this motivational book.
There has been times in everyone's life when everything around becomes too heavy to carry and the worst part is that inspite of asking someone for help we puch everyone away from us, who is not us, but a negative side. 'Happily frustrated' by Ritiqa Pachauri is a damn touching novel where the protagonist Shelly finds her husband loves his boyfriend that triggers her life to depression. Consider yourself in her shoes what we would have done? Obviously there will be loneliness, anger, sadness, frsutration and straight line life. Similarly Shelly found herself, further addiction to alchohol costed her job, her friends and her family as well. As a common experience, even we say a lot of things we don't want to say, but the condition of mind messes up everything and same happened to Shelly. Frustration is usuall, but what makes this book different is that, I never realised what I used to do unconsciously similar to Shelly that I should not do. Someone around us, just like Shelly might need emotional support rather than a judgement. Author successfuly establishes how one big problem can persuade you to invite his friends i.e. major problems. I loved the deep concept and a simple classic cover with a clear tittle. Book needed patience but was worth investing time in.
The ultimate example of how fabulous a book can turn out to be! And also don't judge a book by its cover. PS I didn't judge it's cover, it's too gorgeous, I was simply sceptical about it's title. The story took turns from "You can’t be happily frustrated. I will just be happy and not frustrated" to "I think we all can be happily frustrated. But we can try to be a little more happy each day and will automatically be a little less frustrated". And that's how it stole my heart. It's hilarious, touchy, thought-y yet fabulously outstanding. Shelly, the MC, is a cool, egoist but sweet-as-hell kinda person. First I was just indifferent to her but as the story goes on she took me in her arms and flew away! I want to talk about this book all day and all night long, but I just can't articulate all that. Urghhh!! The plot has a smooth pace, it's not fast paced but I swear you'd read this in one sitting. It hooks you from the very start! All the characters are so adorable 💖. (Except for her boss. Read this if you wanna know why!!) To the ending I'll give my whole life(◎o◎).
HAPPILY FRUSTRATED by Ritiqa Pachauri. I decided to read this book because of its title... Happily frustrated. It made me so curious about the story of the book. And reading this book was the best decision I ever made.. Through the story, we can all learn that trying to drown our past and our problems in alcohol or other such things is never the answer. The writing style was quite easy to grasp. As it was a breezy read I finished it soon.Quite a few pages into the book, I was sure that this book would see a tragic end. But this ending was refreshingly good. The book revolves around the character Shelley, who is an alcoholic and a divorcee, both frowned upon by our 'society' The book gives us a real life insight about Shelley along with fighting her own battles, in the process is destroying her life too. The language and narration is so simple, but Shelly's inner traumas have been portrayed well. Towards the end, the book teaches you to forgive and find happiness. Overall, it is a simple one time read, with a message that worths the time.
It's a tale of Shelly aka Sheila who after being divorced becomes alcoholic and easily gets frustrated for little things. Having lost her job & no children in her 10 years of marriage, she feels abandoned. Grumpy upon every one she encounters every day, she meets Keitki who reveals the sense behind her knackering nightmares. What does her nightmares betoken? How is she gonna mould her life to a beautiful living? How does she revamp herself?
I, myself being a grumpy person, have seen myself in her. But only lacks the courage to blurt out things like Shelly. Her very own thoughts resonated mine. The way story transformed between these two sentences is remarkable.
You can't be happily frustrated. I will just be happy and not frustrated.
to
I think we all can be happily frustrated. But we can try to be a little more happy each day and will automatically be a little less frustrated.
The story takes little turns and you might find it different. If you are looking for a short, funny and fast read, go for it!!
Have you ever been in a position where all the misfortunes happened sequentially and you have got no time / no courage to come out of it ?
🍁This is the story of Sheila (aka) Shelly who gets to know that her husband is a gay. Adding to her misery, she loses her job. She is left with no children.
🍁The frustration which arouse in her makes her alcoholic. She isolates herself from her friends and at a verge of getting burst.
🍁Time is a good healer. Yet in her case, with each day passed, her pain starts growing.
🍁How well she managed to get back on track is the rest.
🍁Author made quite lots of effort in penning the side effects of frustration. I felt like I lived near Shelly. I could easily feel Shelly's raising burden.
🍁There must be some life changing moment in everyone's life. Author could have made little more effort in explaining these changes. I felt all of a sudden there were lots of changes. The earlier portion was bit dragging.
From couple of months I have been reading a lot of stuff on women to understand women POV on anything. That's how my eyes fell upon Happily frustrated. The title is intriguing. Its a short read and can be finished in single sitting. It's the Masterpiece for those who are going through an inner turmoil and want to come out it. Talk about craft part, entire story was revolving around Shelly and her inner conflicts. It teaches us a very important thing which is " We are solely responsible for our actions" which the protagonist realised towards the end. Major part of the books is about her frustration towards life and not able to embrace her past. What I like about this book is the ending of the book. The "Angel guidance" and the spiritual touch at the end was brilliant. The secondary characters could have been developed more which in turn would have made a way for sub-plots which could have been more interesting. Nonetheless a brilliant brilliant book if you are going through a turmoil. Kudos to Ritiqa!!!
Happily frustrated, by Ritiqa Pachauri, was a good and breezy read for me. I completed this book in one sitting as it was a small one of around 123 pages.
This story revolves around, as you would have guessed, an alcohol addict, with the name Shelly. The protagonist, has a hard time coping up with her divorce life and adjusting to the fact that her husband was gay. (Well that reminds me of Ross from F.R.I.E.N.D.S). Her turmoil through various episodes of life makes things works. Latter part, talks about various series of incidents and happenings that will answer, did or did she not accept her fast and move on? And how?
The writing style was quite easy to grasp. As it was a breezy read I finished it soon. If was an overall good book to start the month of pride. The climax, I could say was predictable for me. So i wasn't stunned. But overall I really enjoyed the ending part of the author's portrayal of being "happily frustrated".
'Happily Frustrated' is a nice and interesting story by Ritiqa Pachauri.
The narration is easy flowing which makes it a short read. The characters are well developed and gets interesting with time.
The plot revolves around Shelly who enters a loveless marriage and gets depressed and frustrated when she comes to know that her husband is gay.
Many novels are written nowadays dealing with LGBTQ and it clearly depicts over society in general. The protagonist finds shelter in alcohol to make things worse. It is always said that hardest battles are given to the strongest soldiers so we should not hide ourselves from the problems that come our way. The difficulties generally make us evolve into a better version of our self. She proved the same and metamorphosed herself for her better life. True that there can be numerous frustrating moments in life but we have to pick the happy pieces from them. It is an interesting and motivating book....finished it at one go.
A story of pushback and comeback! Sheela's husband betrayed her when he came out as gay abandoning her all by herself. She's in a devastating state and is fighting her rage out by becoming a full-time alcoholic. Her two best friends, Sabina and Kashish are her only soulmates now but they have their issues too. Sheela, however, ended up losing her job and almost everyone around her. Drenching in a pit of negativity and alcohol, will Sheela ever be able to recover? This is a story of loss, anguish, wrath, despair, and healing.
I liked the simplicity of the story. The life of a divorced woman is not easy but the author has managed to keep the reader's hope up. Moreover, this is a short story with a very simple plot. One can finish up in a single sitting. The cover goes well with the plot and the title is quite a piece.
Happily frustrated by Ritiqa Pachauri is a book that revolves around Shelly who is the main character. Shelly is one frustrated woman who lost her husband to a man and she starts drowning herself in alcohol when she is unable to stomach the truth.
The plot started well with Shelly slowly unfolding her life story and showing some courage on. The book carried a lesson that is a must-have factor in a story apart from entertainment. The moral was that alcohol is not a solution to any problem and it is you who need to gather yourself together. The author succeeded in passing that message.
Talking about the areas of improvement, the narration was not very professional. A little research can do wonders. And the climax was hurried.
The book was a quick read and overall a 2.5 out of 5.
Reading Shelly's story was like as if I have already met people like her. Ritiqa, here, has done an impressive job by portraying Shelly in way which seemed to realistic. The characters sketch of every single character is done amazingly, making you feel as if you are watching this novel live.
Overall,it was a good read and I definitely recommend it to readers who are looking for quick and light reads.
The book deals with alcoholism and frustration. The author has tried to convey the message that one needs to face problems courageously rather than running away from them.
My favorite quote from this book was "Be a little more happy each day and a little less frustrated".
First of all I didn't know which genre it belonged to and was a bit confused about the dreams and stuff. Loved how it ended though and realised it's something like horror with a friendly ghost. But it failed to have an effect on me. It falls flat, devoid of emotions. She tells us, doesn't show us. That's my problem when I write too. I don't understand how it could be a bestseller though. The formatting was very crappy, the title and author's names are all mixed with paragraphs. The writer could improve. She tries to keep everything short and I liked that about her. Especially short paragraphs. Overall it was ok. Can improve a bit more.

Happy Frustrated by Ritiqa Panchauri. Seems an interesting title? Isn't?
So the story is about Shelly who becomes alcoholic after her divorce. She's devasted and unhappy. She's betrayed by her husband's truth. In the 10 years of her married life she hasn't got any reason to live further with her husband.
Storyline is quite simple. Writing style is easy and lucid. It is an enjoyable read.
This book gives a lesson that be happy & strong, life may have lots of obstacles but you should be strong so that you can tackle them easily...
This book portrays a character, Sheila Prasad, popularly known as Shelly, who struggles with her heartbreak. To overcome her pain she become extremely alcoholic. And the ending is really interesting.
The title is really match with the story line. The character looks like bold and the language is also simple. Its easy to read. And the book is not so long. I quite like the book and would recommend others to read.
This book is fun, hilarious, a sad story, alot of moral lessons and overall a very good book.
I loved every page of it. I really liked how Shelly the protagonist of the book, transforms from an alcoholic after her husband has left her for another man to someone everyone would admire.
The author has done an amazing job and feels like a lot of thought and research has been put into the book
1 STAR & DNF due to blatant and consistent HOMOPHOBIA
I'm not a DNF person ever, but I had to stop at the line that went "I couldn't even imagine how my child would have coped up with the face that his father was gay!" No thanks. Removed from my Kindle immediately.
Also 1 star for horrible writing and MANY errors/typos. There were so many mistakes in just the first 20%. I hope this author never writes or publishes again. This is trash.
You feel disgusted by Shelly's drinking habit. Her failed marriage at 35.and her non existent children understandably so as it Shelly's attitude that drives them away. Quite a few pages into the book. I was sure that this book see tragic end.i happened to read on Women's Day which feel like having some power. Pachuri's happily frustrated is heart touching book that will perhaps make you face truth of ur own life
I didn't know what to expect from the story but i was not satisfied. There was too much story buildup for the 70% of the book and everything gets resolved so quickly. I appreciate few topics being addressed (like victimhood, alcoholism etc.), but overall, i didn't like it as much i expected to.
The story reminds us that although life is tough but we should always have faith, stay positive and a never give up attitude. The language is easy for the readers to understand and the story ends on a happy note with our main character Shelly regaining her belief and overcoming her frustrations eventually. Overall the story plot is engaging and a treat for avid fiction readers.
This story is about a girl who faces a lot of problems some created on her own and how she overcomes all of it, also there's a spooky twist to it and all the reading is worth it.
