Brie:
Since taking over as the Library Events Director, I’m exhausted.
A walk in the wilderness with a good book is just what the doctor prescribed.
I find more than solace though: I find danger.
In the form of a rogue, angry bison and an equally ominous mountain man.
I could just kiss him for saving my life! And I do.
Only problem?
He’s Dex—my best friend’s older brother.

Dex:
I’m back from an overseas contract working as a structural engineer.
After three years I’m ready to plant roots, serve my own down-home community.
From the second I see Brie again, looking like a babe in the woods, I know she’s mine.
Time has been almost too good to my kid sister’s best friend.
Saving her life? It was nothin’.
Staying away though?
No can do.

**2.3/5 stars**

What can I say about this? I think the main idea was good and cute, especially at the start. I liked the beginning but then half-way through, my interest just kind of went downhill. I hate to say it, but from the middle part to the end, it was such a waste of potential...and I just can't wrap my head around the fact that the author literally repeated an already improbable scene not once, but twice to solve the drama at the end. Seriously, I forgave it the first time because it was the setup to the story and was used to bring the main characters together. But the second time (happening to the sister)? Get out of here...

I really thought that I would like Dex, mainly because of how he was portrayed at first; possessive, protective and cute but then he got really boring and cheesy. I'm not too sure how to explain it except that I couldn't take him seriously. I think he was meant to seem playful, sadly, the ''charm'' didn't work on me. Also, he said my love too often, and it didn't flow well in the dialogues. It wasn't natural when he said it.

“Once you give me that peach it’s mine and only mine. Is that understood?”-Dex

As for Brie, I think she was okay? She was kind of forgettable and I wished we had a little bit of her background. She was a generic heroine without anything special about her. Normally, I wouldn't mind it, but here I just wished she had been more impactful.

In the three years he’s been away I’ve filled out in my hips and boobs and other soft, cushiony places. Meanwhile Dex got taller, and broader, and…harder.-Brie

My main issue with these two is that yes, they've known each other for years and their relationship was one similar to siblings up until they met again after a three year separation (before the book's event), and it suddenly switched to lust randomly. Now I can understand insta-lust, but here it really felt like there was no base on why they abruptly felt that way for each other. I liked their first interactions, the library scene in particular I think was very well done, but after that, it was just meh.

Would I recommend this novella? If you are into super sweet novellas that give you cavities and a case of gritting teeth with those cringy dialogues, sure. It was just okay to me.

Cute story but I wasn’t liking the writing style. At times it was confusing and other times it felt like it was written by a teen. Still good work putting your story out there.

Finding Love . . .

Brie is exhausted and needs a nice walk in the woods to rejuvenate. But unknown to her, a rogue, angry bison was ready to attack her until a mountain man jumps in to save her life. It turns out that her best friend’s brother, Dex, has returned from an overseas contract working as a structural engineer for the past 3 years.

As soon as he saw her and she was safe, he had a new goal for his life, to settle down with Brie. Dex is back in Wylder Bluffs as a volunteer firefighter and is ready to make a life with Brie if she feels the same. Are they both ready for their HEA?

A cute short story. Dex is back in Wylder becoming a volunteer firefighter when he comes across Brie face to face with a bison. Brie has had a crush on her best friend’s brother forever and is surprised to see him back home. What will happen when her friend Stephany finds out not only that her brother is back but he’s also become a firefighter? An entertaining quick read setting the stage for this new series. The characters were great together and had awesome chemistry. Some emotional moments and some funny moments. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dex sees Brie in a whole new light when he rescues her from a bison that has been stalking her in the woods. Brie is surprised also by Dex because he has been gone for several years with his job and he has been keeping a secret that he is back. They both have grown up and the changes have treated them kindly. Because Dex is Stephany's older brother and she is Brie's best friend, their relationship should tread lightly or his sisters feelings will be hurt. But Dex knows the reason that he has come back to Wylder Bluffs to volunteer at the fire department is to claim Brie as his. This is a short and fast read that has love coming to two people when they least expected it. This is book #1 of the "Wylder Fire Volunteers" and this series is off to a great start. Enjoy!

I loved Dex by Tarin Lex! It's the first book in the new Wylder Fire Volunteers series. Brie and Dex were simply perfect for each other and their chemistry was off the charts hot! Brie does not expect to encounter an aggressive bison on her hike in the mountains and she definitely doesn't expect to be rescued by Dex, her best friend's older brother. Dex knows Brie is the woman he has been waiting for and he is determined to prove they belong together. Hoping Stephany and Red get their story soon.

Love these stories

Loved the long courtship between Dex and Brie. Dex's sister is Brie's best friend. They were worried how she would react. Read the book to see how their love grows. It's really a good series. ;)

She is saved by her very one mountain man......and are they both in for a big surprise!

Dex is the first book in the Wylder Fire Volunteers series and I am already in love. This story is about Dex Muller and Brie Danvers. Dex is twenty-nine years old and has come home to Wylder Bluffs after working overseas as a structural engineer for three years. Actually he snuck back home a couple of months ago and has been training to be a firefighter with the Wylder Volunteer Firefighters. The reason he has kept the few people who know he is back a secret is because of the way his younger sister Stephany would have talked him out of it. Their father died from a backdraft as a volunteer firefighter in Wylder Bluffs when Stephany was eleven and Dex was eighteen. Since then it has just been the two of them, as their mother died while giving birth to Stephany.
Brie is twenty-two years old and works for the Wylder Bluffs Library. She just got a promotion to being the Events Director and with it a lot more responsibility. Brie has also been the best friend of Stephany since they were children.
Brie decides she needs to get away and decompress for the day so she takes a hike in the mountains. It is mid July and as she is hiking she finds a herd of bison in a meadow. But when one of them takes a liking to her, after all it is rutting season, Brie is in a bit of trouble. Mr. Bison is more than persistent and keeps getting closer and closer to her. But luckily for her just as Mr. Bison is ready to lick her and she is about to scream a hand comes over her mouth and an arm around her waist from behind. Then a large roar is heard and Mr. Bison turns away. Brie is saved by her very one mountain man and rewards him with a kiss before she even sees his face. When they break apart they are both surprised to find they know each other....Brie and Dex have just shared a soul searing, toe-curling, outright claiming kiss that sets them both on fire. Nothing can go wrong now can it???

I really loved and laughed with this story. The story-line was entertaining and the characters are great, including the love struck Mr. Bison. This book is a RECOMMEND READ!!!

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

The day that Brie came face to face with a bison was the day that she thought her days were numbered, that is until she was saved by her best friends brother Dex. He was the last person she ever thought she’d meet that day, especially as he was meant to be working overseas. She is even more shocked when he turns up at the library she works at as a volunteer fireman, and the heat he had in his eyes when he looks at her that couldn’t possibly be real could it?

Dex has been back in town for a while after a few years working away as a structural engineer but the job isn’t the one he wants the one he wants he made a promise to his sister years ago that he knew he would someday break. Stephy and he had been a team after losing their mother when they were children and then their fathers life was claimed by a fire when at work. There has been many generations of firefighters in his family and to him it’s a calling. Finding Brie cornered by a bison was nit what he had been expecting that day but one look at her and he’s hooked, the girl he had watched grow from a child to a woman suddenly had his heart in the palm of her hand. He knows that she’s his other half but how will his sister feel about them being together, will they be forced to choose?

Loved this book I am fairly nee to this author but everything I have read by her so far has me hooked from start to finish. Sweet and seriously hot 4.3* read.

Really Cute Story But…
Tarin Lex is known for writing super-sexy short stories, and her new series, Wylder Fire Volunteers, is just that…with firefighters…is it getting hot in here? In “Dex,” Book 1 of the series, we watch the title character fall hard for his younger sister’s best friend, Brie. Typical of Lex’s tales, the chemistry between the characters is off-the-charts, and there are some great side characters that I’m sure will provide additional installments of the series, such as Dex’s sister, Stephy, and several of the townspeople and other volunteer firefighters. Everyone is relatable in that small town way, which makes this more of a feel-good story than anything else. There is only one thing that I’m not a fan of, and that is the often-juvenile vocabulary (like referring to food as “num-nums,” for instance) and dialogue that borders on cheesy in this tale. I also find it a little odd that Dex almost has this alpha possessiveness to him and then some of his sexy talk becomes a little bit cringeworthy. Despite my opinion on this front, I am looking forward to Book 2 and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Brie is out in the wilderness looking at the bison. One bison is following her and really scaring her.
Dex just happens to be out in the woods when he heard a female scream. Running towards her, he puts his hands on her !out from screaming. Dec is able to scare off the bison. After he lets her go and she turns in shock seeing her best friends brother. He has been over seas and now he's in the woods but why?
Dex explains that he's been back for a little while, while he has been learning to be a firefighter. After telling Brie that she has to keep it a secret from his sister.
Brie has had a crush on Dex for years. So when she is stuck in his house because a storm came through, her and Dex let each other know their feelings. When she didn't show up his sister got concerned and went out looking for her. She to meet the bison. Screaming sends Dex out looking for the screaming when he sees his sister. Dex has a lot of explaining to her.
Brie and Dex let her know they are a couple and that he is a firefighter.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
Once started you won’t put it down but not to worry it isn’t a long read and my opinion way to short. What do you do when you come face to face with a Bison…? RUN well that is what I would have done RUN as fast as my legs would carry me. However, while Brie is on a much needed vacation and comes fact to face with Bison she talks to it instead of running. Dex is this sexy as all get man appearing larger than life steps in to save her from the Bison that she should have ran from. Upon saving her they are getting to know each other, and the chemistry is so intense, and the magnetic pull won’t be ignored especially when fate throw them together with the help of a Bison. So where do the two of them end up and can they find happiness along the way?

Dex a former structural engineer, who worked all over the world, is now working on his second career as a volunteer firefighter, in his home town, Wylder Bluff. He runs into a woman who is being chased by a crazy bison and comes to her rescue. To thank him she kisses him and that’s when they both realize it’s Brie, his sister best friend. He asked Brie to keep his secret from everyone, especially his sister, since no one knows he’s home.
Brie a event planner for the library has always had a huge crush on Dane, but this new Dane is so different. He taller and very muscular because of his many years of working hard and now he is back and has saved her from a crazy bison. The next day at work Dane shows up for an inspection of the library and was told some bookcases needed to be move because of a fire hazard and the two spend the day moving the bookcases around. But that evening his sister shows up at the library and is shock to see her brother. Now how is he going to tell his sister he is in love with her best friend.

Dex Muller had returned home to Wylder Bluffs to take his place on the volunteer fire department even though he promised his sister, Stephany that he would never join the fire department. They lost their father, while he was fighting a fire leaving Stephany terrified of losing her only remaining family that way. He became attracted to her best friend, Brie Danvers shortly after he got home, but he did not want to tell Stephany, because he was afraid she would not take it well, as she would then be afraid neither he nor Brie would have time for her. They were walking a tight role of secrets in a small community. Then add some excitement to their lives with a rogue bull buffalo, they continually had to deal with. This was somewhat an original story with inspiring meet cute. One you will not forget soon.

Brie has just got a promotion at the Library to Events Planner and she is stressed and overworked. She decides to take a hike to relax, regroup, and de stress. She is hiking and comes across a herd of bison and one has strayed off from the others and is following her and getting dangerously close. All of a sudden there is a loud roar and she is grabbed from behind. Brie turns around to see her best friend’s brother, Dex. Dex has been back in town over two months but has not let his family know. Brie is overjoyed to see him. How is Brie going to not tell Stephany? What is Dex doing back? Dex and Brie go way back but they both have feelings that have never been expressed before. What is going to happen? This is a short little read which is entertaining, enjoyable, funny, and sexy. Throw in lovable characters with great chemistry and you have a great read!

Brie was trying to get away from a bison when she ran straight into Dex's arms. Dex is her best friend's brother and he doesn't want his sister to know he is home yet so he asks Brie to keep quiet about it. She works at a library and runs into him again when he shows up as a volunteer fireman. She's shocked to see him and sparks fly between them. They quickly begin to work on making the library safe in case of fires. After everyone else leaves they are still working and things heat up between them. However they are interrupted when his sister comes to see Brie. Will her friend cause things to end between them? Can they have something serious together?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Welcome back to the Bluff. This is beginning of new series and it is off with a bang. Dax is the perfect mix of hot mountain man with a spice of nerd. Brie is the Library Events Director and is needing a break when she takes a walk and runs into "Mr. Bison". While trying to get away she runs into Dax, unknowingly back home from being overseas. Things heat up before they even realize who is who. Brie's best friend's brother.

This is a great short story perfect when you just need a break. The writing itself is a bit different from the other book, a bit playful to the reader that you could actual see yourself listening to a friend the story and getting ahead of themselves. Looking forward to the next book.

Tarin Lex kicks off her spin-off series Wylder Fire Volunteers with Dex, a super steamy and sweet instalove romance. In what is possibly my favourite meet-cute EVER, Dex rescues Brie from an encounter with an angry and horny bison while she's out hiking in the Wylder bluffs. Quickly, the two realize who the other is: he's her best friend's older brother, who has been overseas for the past few years. Now that she is all grown up, firefighter-trainee Dex sees Brie in a brand new light and instantly knows she is meant to be his. The curvy, brainy library Events Coordinator cannot deny her own attraction - even if it is to her best friend's older brother. Dex and Brie have awesome chemistry, and this quick read is highly entertaining. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series!

Brie and Dex, her best friends brother, reconnect in front of a wild bison that seems to want to get way too close for comfort. Dex saves her and she finds out he has been back a few months and his sister does not know yet. Later at the library where she works as activity director, she finds out he is now an official firefighter, something her friend did not want as they lost their dad to that job. Brie and Dex fall in love quickly and their confessions to his sister also include the same bison and comment that Brie had used. Loved the characters and the storyline. The characters from around town and the firehouse added a lot of depth to the story. The ending and epilogue were terrific and give us a glimpse of the next storyline. Can not wait to read it.

This is the first book in the Wylder Fire Volunteers series. This is not a normal best friend's story. They are usually the brothers best friend's sister and this is the sisters. So that right there is one to make you want to read it. He is back in town for his second career change in his life. She works at the library. He saves her from a bad situation and gets a kiss in return for the save. Not realizing who he was till the kiss has ended. The one man she has always had a crush on. He asks her to keep that he is there and the kiss a secret. She does, but then they are caught. So what were they doing when they were caught? What will his sister say and do? How will things work out with these two?

Brie finds herself in a scary situation on the mountains... when she thinks that she won´t make it, in comes Dex to her rescue. Dex is back home and starting as a volunteer firefighter, and now he finds himself instantly attracted to Brie. He knows he needs to tread lightly, since she`s his sister`s best friend... but he just can´t help himself. He`s willing to make sure she understands that they`re meant to be together! I love a good insta-love romance... and this one does not disssappoint... it`s instant, steamy, sweet and sexy. The story has a great flow that`s easy to follow and pulls you in to the story! A fun and short story to get lost in!

Hello, Mr. Bison.
Awesome story. Dex has been back home for a couple months and hasn’t told anyone. His sister doesn’t even know, yet. One day he rescues Brie out in the woods. Brie is not the young girl she use to be, now she’s a beautiful woman. Brie is excited to be saved she kisses Dex before she realizes who he he is. They are into each other that after a couple of weeks they see that they have a problem on their hands... His sister and Brie best friend still doesn’t know that he’s back or about them being together. Oppsie!! Welcome to Wylder Bluffs.

I thought that this was a sweet book. Dex and Brie were great together. Dex has been gone for work and is now back home but hasn't told his sister. Brie is Dex's little sister's best friend and he finds her in a dangerous situation with a bison. These two hit if off even thought they both know that it is not the best idea but they can't resist each other. There is a little bit of drama but Dex and Brie are able to get through it and have a great HEA. I can't wait for the rest of the series and I would recommend this book and Ms. Tarin as a great author.

All in all, the book was okay. It was a quick read with a happily ever after. Instalove was definitely the storyline here, no doubt about it. The book started with a bang, then proceeded to all out mushiness. It’s not a term I normally use to describe romance novels, in general, but I feel it applies here. I found this book cotton candy sweet when I was expecting a little bit more than froth based on the description. If you don’t mind your high schooler reading a book that’s a little racy, this is the type of fantasy romance that teens aspire to.

I was totally all for this book. Lots of foreplay before the main event. Likable characters. Well written. Then...

We get to their first time and this little gem, “Aw yeah? Then I’m gonna say it some more, my love,” I coo. “My love.” I pepper kisses against her cheek. “Is our tight little beaver ready for me?” “Yes.” “You want our penis inside of you now, my love?” “So much.” Ummm, okay. That’s weird, right? I still enjoyed the book as a whole but between the weird sex dialogue and the epilogue that was basically just to set up the next book, it went from a 5 star read to a 4. I’ll definitely read the next one.

Book 1 of a mountain man, firefighter series. Brie is having a dangerous face-off with a bison when she is rescued by Dex, her best friend's brother. It's been years since they've seen each other and it's a mutual insta-attraction situation. Will Dex's sister, Stephany, be supportive of their union? Will Dex let anything stand in his way of claiming his heart's desire? I like this short, insta-love romance for it's dual POV, likable characters, realistic career details, sweet surprises, humor and good chemistry.

First things first; I like the cover of this book!
Dex is the first book in the ‘’Wylder fire volunteers’’ series. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. When Dex returns to his hometown he doesn’t expect to fall for his little sisters best friend.
The chemistry between Dex and Brie is clear to see and I liked them together.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for more books from this series.

I like a quickie as much as the next one and I sure do believe in insta-love romance, but these two characters knew each other for a long time before falling 'instantly' in love. The plot doesn't flow smoothly. It seems like just when we're coming to an interesting confrontation between characters, poof, we're suddenly in the future and hearing a retelling of the incident. It's almost as though the author doesn't know how or is afraid to paint the deeper emotions into the story that will make it so much better. There is some heat in the bedroom which could be hotter, but it was enough for me to elevate the story to three stars. Ho hum.
