After losing her last living relatives, Caroline Clarke knew she had to become a governess to secure her brother's future. However, before losing her beloved aunt, she promised to fulfil her last wish and deliver a letter to her old lost love. Yet, fate will have the charming Caroline facing her aunt's past, leading her to an Earl's doorstep. Luckily, the old man decides to take care of her, as a homage to her aunt, and proposes that she stays in his estate. Caroline is thrilled with the idea, except for the fact that she must endure his insufferable, arrogant son. However, little did she know that he would soon become the one to steal her heart... Knowing that her growing feelings for him could lead to the same heartbreaking end as her aunt's, will Caroline risk it all in order to mark her own path in this old romance?
Matthew Poulett is a proud young man who has everything; wealth, titles and charm. Upset to leave London halfway through the season, he rushes to visit his countryside estate on his father's command. On his way there, Matthew will be extremely irritated by a mysterious girl that happens to be traveling on the same couch. Having to suffer through her endless talking about love, he makes it clear that, for him, love and romance are nonsense and they are usually driven out of selfishness. However, he is entirely unaware of the fact that this fiery girl is going to turn his world upside down... Fate forces him towards her and he soon finds himself enchanted by her kindness and beauty. Will Matthew manage to overcome his prejudice and finally surrender to his genuine emotions?
Caroline and Lord Poulett are two opposite forces that keep crashing into one another, and yet, what bonds them seems to be stronger than what separates them. Their affection slowly turns into a reciprocal admiration, and their worlds intertwine. However, their undeniable affinity will cause the jealousy of a cunning woman, who will plan to separate them once and forever... Was it, after all, her aunt's break up from the Earl a fate's losing game or someone's evil intention? Will the ashes of a lost affair be the spark that Caroline and Matthew need to defy their perilous destiny and find true love?
I struggled with all of the wrong words in this story. Using the word "than" instead of "then", etc. These types of errors make for a difficult read, and I found this story inundated with such errors. Surely authors, even those who are into self-publishing, either proofread for themselves or have someone do it for them! I'm sorry, Authors, but if you want to portray yourselves as a "Master of Words", then you should do all in your power to prove it by doing the work necessary to write your books. Now as to the story? It was a LONG, drawn out mess. Very little romance, all angst and hatred...over what? A chit of a girl who had a heart of gold (yeah she let everyone walk all over her for it too) and everyone but her brother and the earl against her? Come on! This was a hard piece of literature to swallow from beginning to end. The Hero? He had no compassion for anyone, and it never states WHY he felt such a way except for...rumors and conjectures. He had no backbone! He was 100% lily livered! He was swayed by everyone and everything but what he knew in his gut to be right. One minute he trusts her, or loves her, the very next, he doesn't and it goes on and on and on for the entire book like that. Wishy washy much? It took him 34 chapters...yes the entire book...to gain a stiff upper lip and grow some...well you get the meaning. Un-fracking-believable! Oh, and it is NOT Granta Gardens or Granta Greens....It's Gretna Green Scotland. Please, be smarter than the average bear! (Yes, you're readers DO look things up when reading your books!) I didn't enjoy this book and I want my time back (just kidding on the time but you get my drift). It was ... well I'll just say it again. It was a mess. Do I believe books should have an HEA? Yes. Do I believe this Hero should have an HEA? Nope.
Caroline & her younger brother Andrew are all alone in the world after the death of their aunt. She has a trip to take to deliver a long overdue letter. The trip has been long and the carriage drive eventful. She was introduced to two very different gentlemen one that was kind & the other not so much. Matthew just wants to get home after the long carriage trip & the woman on the trip. Little do they realise that they are about to meet again and this time they will be seeing .ore of each other. Caroline had no idea that the Earl was her Aunt's first love and that she & Andrew would be living with him. Matthew is wary on Caroline especially when he hears stories about her late aunt he fights against them for so long until he gives in. Caroline thought that things were going so well but then everything changed and Matthew wanted nothing to do with her. So she has no choice but to move away. But will Matthew be too late to stop her? And will she believe him after everything that she has been through? A good read.
A beautiful story. What a charming and heartwarming story the characters were wonderful. Caroline is on a mission the last request by her aunt. She did not expect it to change her life. Matthew has a self-important attitude he is rich a son of an Earl and is not happy to be doing what his father has commanded. What is so good about this book twits the author has written it kept me reading until the very end. Abigail Agar has a winner on her hands I highly recommend this gem it is so worth reading.
Destined for an Earl's Heart A Historical Regency Romance Book
This is a wonderful story about Matthew a young Earl and Carolyn a young woman and her brother delivering a letter for her dead aunt There are many twists and turns are trying to keep the two apart but the couple and love wins The characters are determined and strong The extended epilogue completes the story with a happy ending
This is another extremely entertaining story, that will have you gripped from start to finish. This clean plot has plenty of emotional turmoil and strong characters who have the determination to outwit their foes, and come together in love. The extended epilogue brings us a delightful insight into their future lives. I read an ARC copy.
She should have married the Earl and got financial security. Mathew is too dumb for anyone except Helena, they would make a great couple with her mama in bed with them. And just think that after suffering through this book we are able to get an extended chapter. This book is mediocre at best and not worth recommending to anyone.
This is a lovely read. The book has an engaging storyline and wonderful characters. Caroline is spirited and sweet, while Matthew is stubborn but has a heart of gold under it all. I really enjoy reading books by this author and this is another good read. I like that he storyline is different to her other works while still in her familiar style.
I loved the storyline on this one, but it lost a star for me because it could really use some editing. As an author, I’m not usually one to be harsh about it but these were frequent enough to distract me while reading. The pride and prejudice line at the end was also a little over the top for my taste
Would have been five stars if Abigail had a good editor, so many mistakes, at first the hero’s hair was black as a raven’s wing later it was brown, church parish is spelled perish, American cookies, biscuits in England and dozens of others. However, thank you Abigail for a very good read.
Abigail Agar writes wonderfully interesting and entertaining stories. She is masterful at coming up with believable scenarios and well constructed characters. She writes books that I tend to stay up very late to read them because I hate to stop reading them. I definitely recommend this book!
Great story wonderful story line great characters. An adventure for a brother and sister to deliver a letter to their aunt, s lost love, leads to Caroline finding her own love. Thank you ❤️
An excellent story, well written, with wonderful characters and attention to detail. A romance full of unexpected turns and twist or two and happily ever after.
It was an enjoyable read. I would have enjoyed knowing the main characters a little better. I did like the plot. Editing or proofreading would come in handy.
