Fun and enthralling urban fantasy

I’m a digital nomad (well I was until 2020 happened), although I hate that term because it makes me sound like a wanky hipster. Which I’m not. Okay, I am a bit snobby about coffee and I sometimes wear twee vintage dresses but that doesn’t make me a hipster.

On my travels, I love visiting weird and macabre places. Mummified hands that remove curses, museums of infectious diseases, collections of taxidermized frogs riding Penny Farthings - hell yeah!

Oh, and that profile photo isn't me, it's my rapscallion Bishon Frise called Hamish. Both of us highly motivated by treats.

Kat Cotton brings a new series to the fore. Rebel, or Rose, is 16 sweet and innocent. She lives with her mother, father, and sister. One day when she is with them, they see a man on a motorcycle and he calls to Rebel. She cannot get him out of their mind. They whisper a name she will not forget. Just hours later, she is at her friend’s house and they are playing hide and seek with some boys. She runs into him again…only this time she knows something is not right about him. They will keep meeting until she discovers one of his secrets. Only thing, her parents know as well! There is a connection between him, her family, another vamp family, and a witch’s curse! She is not being told everything, she is being kept in the dark, and yet she may be the answer~ So many are fighting to “keep her safe”, while the two brothers and her best friend are trying to help her. It will come down to her making a promise to save lives…she will go away and stay away. Little does she know that will never be enough…this ends in an epic cliffhanger~ Cannot wait to read the next book in the series…I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

This YA vampire romance brings together Flynn Belford and 16-year old Rose (a.k.a Rebel). She's an outgoing tomboy - everything Flynn thinks he doesn't want. He can't seem to stay away from her, though. As they spend time together, he continues to fight his instincts and protect Rebel from those who would hurt her as well as himself.

There is a lot more going on in this sleep small town than Rebel realizes. She's infatuated with Flynn, but everyone is determined to keep them apart. Secrets are being kept, monsters are on the loose and the lines become blurred between who's good and who's bad.

This read is filled with star-crossed lovers and intrigue. However, some of the characters fell a bit flat for me. Rebel's sister is a nasty piece of work without cause or much personality. Her parents seem a bit milquetoast until they let their true agenda show. Revealing themselves to be anti-vampire and their cruelty are about the only insights into their characters. With that said, the relationship developing between Flynn and Rebel is well-written, the story moves at a good pace, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.

Four stars for this teen vampire romance.

This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.

I've had Cursed on my TBR for a while and the stunning cover is why I picked it today. Bonus it fits for one of my current reading challenges. Rebel's lives in small town where nothing interesting happens. Her only prospect is Yoshi till she has a encounter in the woods with Flynn. Flynn changes the game but he's keeping secrets and when her parents find out they are determined to keep the pair apart no matter what.

This is my first book by the author so I wasn't sure what to expect. I wanted to love this one because the synopsis sounded amazing. I sadly love it as much as I would have hoped. I felt that I was reading a cross between Twilight and Vampire Diaries the idea was great but the execution was lacking. I feel like I just wasn't able to connect with Rebel or Flynn. I wanted to love the story but I didn't. I don't think it was my cup of tea but I'm sure others will love it.

Exciting

Rebel, aka Rose, first sees one of the Belford brothers when out in the car with her parents, and it is their reaction that sets her on a mission to find out more.
Known throughout the town as evil vampires, the brothers only return occasionally to recharge their batteries, but Rebel's similarity to her late aunt, causes intrigue on their part as well.
This is terrific. Rebel's emotions, as she falls for the first time, are raw and redolent with teenage experiences. Her family are strange to say the least, and the antipathy of her sister borders on animosity, yet she is the favoured child.
No HEA, but a promising for book 2.

An insta-love vampire romance. There is a lot of romantic teenage angst going on in the first 2/3 of the book. All is wrapped around a curse on the vampire to find his soulmate. While time runs out and enemies try to kill him will there be a forever after?

While I may not be the exact target audience as the whole romance insta-love didn't resonate too much with me, the end (I wouldn't call it total cliffhanger but there's lots open) makes me want more.

One bizzare thing: Rebel seems to fall asleep in the most unexpected circumstances.

I both loved and hated Kat Cotton’s Cursed (Belford Vampire Brothers, Book 1). It is the perfect start to an absolutely fantastic Young Adult slow burn vampire romance, with fantastic leads in Flynn Belford and Rebel Miller. So why hate? Because of the cliffhanger. I’m not taking any points off from this 5-star review as the author warned about it going in, but still, now I’m stuck waiting for book 2!!! My eagerness shows just how great a series start this is, I admit, so I’m going to highly recommended the book, as long as readers are able to deal with cliffhangers.

Such a good book. I find myself thinking back to reading Twilight for the first time. Human girl, falls for vampire, danger comes for vampire. But there’s more story to it Rebel with her dysfunctional family and being sent away. Flynn with the secret of what happened between him and Rebels aunt. Then the preview of the first chapter for the next book! I can’t wait to read the sequel! So glad I went out of my ‘normal’ genre and picked this book!

Good Plot, Bad Cliffhanger

I liked this story because of the twists and turns and because the plot wasn’t the typical predictable issue when it comes to vamps. Took stars off bc it was a raw cliffhanger. A cliffhanger that feels like it was done on purpose just to lead me to read book two. Which now I’m actually too mad to do. Authors have got to stop using dissatisfying endings just to pull readers into another book in the series.

2.5 stars. Seems like fan fiction for The Vampire Diaries. This would be a good replacement for the TVD first book since it was horrendous, but Cursed doesn't compare to the TV series which was really good IMO. An average read, almost DNF'ed but I thought I knew what was going to happen and wanted to see if I was correct. I wasn't correct. I thought Flynn was leading Rebel on. I didn't think it was going to go the ephebophilia route, but it did.

3,5 ⭐️

Enjoyable

Not the most original conservatory ever told but it got a great feisty female lead but Twilight type make who doesn't eat humans oh plus there's a curse in case you haven't guessed from the title .Pretty sure Bennet got what he deserved but I'm going to buy the next book simply because I hate a cliffhanger

DNF. Not interested in adults stalking minors. Fated mates isn't an excuse to be a creep. I also don't care for grooming in any form.

It’s definitely giving some Vampire Diaries vibes. And i thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s YA for sure. Nothing even semi spicy happens. It’s a cute, clean, vampire romance and i definitely recommend it.

It did have me wanting to throw my phone a few times though and I wasn’t vibing with MC parents.

One of the worst fantasy books I've ever read - unoriginal and throughly predictable... got it on one of the Stuff your Kindle days. Will not be reading the rest of the series
