oh, okay when I was looking for something that would give me some suspense with my romance, my friend recommended this series to me
Since Sean Knight was sixteen, He had been running from his former life and he never really looked back
Now he is the owner of a security firm and former Navy SEAL, Sean was hired to go to Afghanistan to find a hacker named Red Enigma.
When he had left Afghanistan ten years ago, Sean swore there was no going back again after all he had seen and done in that Country.
But when he arrives, he finds Isaad that he hadn’t seen in years, Isaad and Sean knew each other from his deployment assignment from years ago someone he thought was an old friend wanting his assistance with a mine which is a good cover for Sean…… or is it?
Jess Wilander is an investigative journalist and have written many articles for magazines and newspapers, such as Newsweek and the New York Times.
Jess had traveled to Afghanistan to pretend to write an article about wealthy Middle East Isaad Narazi, but in reality, she was there to find and to free her sister
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Deep 8 series. This book pulled me in from the beginning, and I could not put it down. I loved the characters, and you could feel the love the two main characters had for each other. The romance in this book was a second chance romance. There was a ton of action and suspense in this book. There was so much going on in this book, but it was written in away that did not feel like there was to much going. The main part of this book was the action and suspense, but the romance you could feel coming off the characters though out this book. I felt I was there with these characters, and I really love a book that can do that. I cannot wait to pick up more from this author and more from this series. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Steel Butterfly Press) or author (Kenzie Macallan) via Booksirens, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
A new author for me, I received this ARC from the author via BookSirens. I have to say I’m impressed. The story is well written, and a full on suspense ride. I enjoyed every minute of it. That being said, I did feel some of the scenarios of the storyline were overdone and unbelievable, but as this is a work of fiction, and an action piece at that, I gave the author free reign to embellish the actions of the hero and heroine, so much so the bad guys came out looking like dumb arses lol. This book will keep your interest.
Sean Knight, former Navy Seal, now owns a security firm. His firm has been hired to go to Afghanistan to grab a world renowned hacker.
Things don't always go as planned ... especially when he finds a childhood friend being held hostage. Jess Wilander, an investigative reporter, goes undercover in order to find her sister, who was kidnapped by an Afghan warlord.
Sean has to find a way to get his target, his old friend and her sister away to safety. But now there's another complication ... Sean is realizing that the one person he has always loved .. is Jess. But Jess doesn't trust him completely, but has no choice but to accept his help in finding her sister.
It's a fast-paced, action-packed plot with page-turning excitement. The characters are cleverly drawn. The romance is steamy, spicy, titillating.
WARNING: Graphic intimate moments.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this romantic suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
WOW! It's been awhile since I've read a new to me author who blew me away. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre to read and Kenzie Macallan has just moved to the top of my must read list. Wild is a nail-biting, edge of your seat suspense read woven with a dynamic first real chance at a love that was misdirected in the couple's youth. Once I started this book, I didn't want to put it down, just when things start to settle in the story there is a new issue around the corner. Ms. Macallan has a several subplots going through the story and manages to tie up all the loose ends by the end of the book but definitely gives the reader something to intrigue them to read the next book. Wild revolves around Sean Knight former SEAL and owner of his own global security company. Hired for a mission that goes far beyond the job he thought he was hired for, to extract a hacker who specializes in the dark web.He is reunited with his friend, Isaad, in Afghanistan, a place where Sean would rather not be due to his past tours of duty. However, Isaad, is no longer the friend he knew. He is into some really shady dealings and while he tries to recruit Sean into his organization, Sean finds there is an investigative reporter doing an article on Isaad. He is surprised to find the girl he left behind and could never forget: his childhood best friend, Jess. Jess has been in love with Sean since they were sixteen, but never understood why he left her behind. Not only is Jess writing about their host, she is trying to find her sister who she believes is being held prisoner by Isaad. There is so much going on in this story and though danger surrounds the couple, they manage to reconnect. This book hits a lot of why I read romantic suspense. Not only is the chemistry between Jess and Sean off the charts. Once they finally give into their fears and are vulnerable with each other, their easy camaraderie from their early years appears and has the reader pulling for them to make things work. Ms. Macallan's suspense story is not easily unraveled and has many levels that were obviously well researched. Ms. Macallan does an excellent job showing a bit of the country's culture and the way the women are treated differently than in the US. The writing is tight, the pace of the story is perfect, and the characters are well developed with an interesting backstory. Add to that the steamy sexy times and this book is a winner in all categories. The story is told in dual POV and in first person, so the immediacy of the danger and suspense are almost palpable. This book is the first of a new series by this author, and I am excited to see where she takes the team as they tackle a new global threat in Deep 8.
Omg! This was a new to me author and one I'll definitely be reading more from. It's the first new to me author that I've added to my top read of 21 list, and boy is it well deserved. I was transfixed from the very first page, I even had to put it down for a few hours as I was madly turning pages and I didn't want to miss a second, it was that captivating, and had so many hidden layers to it. Where has this author been hiding! The characters and plot will ensare you, refusing to let you go. I cannot wait to see what happens next, especially after that last chapter. Highly recommend, would give more stars if I could.
Kenzie Macallan is a new to me author, and what a way to be introduced to her world than Wild! Romantic suspense is 100% my jam because there's nothing better to me than being on the edge of my seat as the twists come in hot so I can drop loud f-bomb after loud f-bomb. Former Navy SEAL Sean, has started his own security business, and now he's on an assignment in Afghanistan to rescue a hacker, but he comes across so much more than that. Investigative reporter Jess is in Afghanistan looking for her sister under the guise of doing a story, and she didn't know what was coming for her. See, they were besties when they were kids (and maybe just maybe one or both harbored secret feelings) so he's going to rescue her as well. However, something happened in the past that really hurt her so she's not trusting him so easily, but with danger in all directions she doesn't have time to obsess over the past. As they're basically fighting for their lives, they also have to face that past for a second chance, so will they be able to be multitaskers?! You know what to do to find out, while I sit impatiently for the next book in a new explosive series! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I received an ARC from the author. Jess and Sean were childhood friends. She was in foster care and he had an abusive father. Together they helped each other. Jess fell in love with him but he felt he was not good enough for her because of his home life. He soon left and became a SEAL. Jess went on to be an investigating journalist. Her foster sister became a super smart hacker. Puppy gets hired to do a job but soon becomes a prisoner to her boss. Jess decides she will rescue her sister and goes in under the preface of writing an article about the man keeping her captive. She doesn’t expect to see Sean but he is hired to find a kidnapped hacker. He doesn’t know she is Pippa, all he has is her code name. Soon enough these two are unraveling a mystery and fighting for their lives. The attraction to each other is strong and Sean has to admit to Jess why he left her years ago. It is a difficult situation they are in but together they can conquer it all. This book is full of excitement and mystery. Definitely a new series I will want to continue reading.
The book had a good premise, however it felt short in my opinion. Sean, Jes and Pippa are supposed to be mega smart but behaved like teenagers competing in a video game. The women had too big of an ego and were too emotional. As for Sean, supposedly a professional, he was behaving in anything but a professional manner. The constant phrase that he was the brawn to Jes’ brain was insulting to SEALs. First off Pippa. If she’s undercover for MI6 and needs to leave, why not contact them instead of her sister, a civilian who has no skills in rescue? Now that Sean, an ex Seal and head of a security firm is on the premises to rescue her, why decide to go half cocked and escape on her own making it more difficult? Jes. My god was she frustrating. Her constant boasting of knowing how to take care of herself was grating. She’s a journalist, not a soldier or a spy so she was out of her depth. She put herself and Sean in danger constantly. She’s lucky that Isaad still had and allegiance of sorts to Sean otherwise she would have been dead. (Rakeesh, comes to mind). Are we really meant to believe that with all the cameras, she could get to the supercomputers’ room with a stolen card without raising an alarm? The worse was really when she got back to the house to “help” Sean. How she couldn’t see that in fact she would make him vulnerable as she could be used against him is ludicrous. Listening to him, the professional, staying behind to wait for the team with whom she could have worked made a lot more sense. Lastly Sean. The way he was portrayed, nobody would believe that he’s a seasoned Seal and the head of a global security firm. First of , for him not to realize straight away who Pippa was and that having the 3 of them there at the same time was strange, was sloppy to say the least. The depiction of his PTSD was cliché. The whole all soldiers have a form of debilitating PTSD is untrue. In his case, it would be improbable that he wouldn’t get treatment if he was to continue going out in the field. I understand love, however Sean letting his emotions control him so much that he would get caught with his pants down, literally was laughable. Letting Isaad escape was really the icing on the cake. I hope the next book will be tighter and that Beck, a black man will not be described as exotic again.
When ex navy SEAL Sean Knight stared at his new portrait of a beautiful woman little did he know how his life was about to change. Sean had set up MBK Global Securities with two of his ex SEAL buddies, he had joined the navy to escape his drunken abusive father but he never forgot the one constant love of his life, Jess Wilander, the girl in the portrait.
Sean was contacted by MI6 for a mission in Afghanistan, a mission that he didn't want but knew that he must take, he was to rescue a well now hacker known as Red Enigma.
Sean was met by his old friend Isaad Nazari, they had been like brothers when Isaad had acted as their interpreter when he was in Afghanistan with his SEAL team.
The trappings of wealth showed that Isaad had done well for himself, but all was not as it seemed.
When Isaad introduced a girl with only her eyes showing from under a burka that she was wearing, Sean was stunned, it was the girl in the portrait, why was Jess here under a false name and being introduced as a journalist writing an article on Isaad.
Jess was a prisoner in all but name, SEAN had to rescue her as well as Red Enigma. What was going on in Isaad's world, why had he changed so much ? there was no trust on either side.
Could Sean rescue Jess and Red Enigma ? who was Red Enigma ? what was Jess doing in Afghanistan?
From first sight it was apparent that the chemistry between Jess and Sean still burned bright.
This is an action, packed, suspense filled romance.
I received a free copy of this book and I give my review voluntarily.
Sean is a former navy seal running his own security company. He just gets home when he gets a call about an important rescue overseas. Jess is an investigative reporter and she is on her next story because of a personal reason. However she isn't even sure how she' make it out safely. She's stunned when she sees Sean talking to the man she is there to interview. Sean is shocked to find Jess there but goes with it. He knows that he now has to include getting her out safely as well as the other person he was sent in for. Sean and Jess have a history and it wasn't always a good one but he plans to fix that as soon as they make it back home. Will they get their plans taken care of safely? Can they be together?
This is an amazing story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
There were a lot of twists and turns along the way for Sean and Jess! Between their reunion, the realization that what almost was definitely needs to be now, and danger all around, they had their work cut out for them. Rescue Pippa and Red Enigma, save themselves, escape intact...it was all quite a lofty demand, yet they rose to all challenges wonderfully.
I found myself loving the complexity of characters, the secrets kept by Pippa, the deception of so many appearances, and the worry of what comes next. Will Sean’s humanity come back to bite him (and is Isaad really gone)? Will he and Jess remain safe? Who will Pippa end up with? I can’t wait to see what comes with the next story in this series because I’m pretty sure those left behind aren’t done with their nefarious plotting yet. Not by a long shot.
This book is absolutely wild! There are so many twists and turns you will not be able to put the book down. Sean owns and works for a security company and while on a mission he runs into Jess who was his best friend as a kid. She is an investigative reporter working on a story. Together they figure out that they actually are both looking for the same person. Their story gets intense as they work together. Together they bring out the best in one another. You will definitely want to start this one when you have the time to really delve in because you will not want to stop reading for anything once you jump in!
This is an intense rollercoaster ride story that will rivet you on the edge of your seat by it's drama, suspense and crazy twist and turns. Sean Knight, former military and now owner of a security firm his hired to find a renown hacker in Afghanistan. While there he meets his friend Jess an investigative reporter who is there to find her sister Pippa which was taken hostage. Together they unraveled the whole thing by completing each other. There is so much going on that you will not be able to put this story down. I am certain that there is more to come with all that are left hanging in the balance. I volunteered to review this amazing story.
Sean Knight is a former navy SEAL who owns his own security firm. Jess Wilander is an investigative reporter whose sister was captured by a warlord and is being held in Afghanistan. Sean is the one sent for the rescue and finds a part of his past when he sees Jess.
This is an action-packed, exciting story that pulls up lots of emotions from the reader. There will be danger mixed in with love as Sean tries to get everyone out safely. The characters are well-defined and the scenario is all too realistic. Grab your copy and read all the details to see whether they escape with their lives. Will there be a HEA for Sean and Jess if they can return home?
Wow, this book is awesome. There is a lot of action and real life events that take place in the real world. Sean and Jess haven't seen each other in years. They never in their lifetime figured they would meet again under these circumstances. The author did a great job of holding my interest. I definitely recommend reading this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book was awesome I couldnt put it down till the last sentence and still wanted more. When jess and Sean met afganistan he thought he was having memories of her but those eyes said different. Jess was so mad at him from past behaviors that she just couldnt let go. I cant wait to read the next book
Sean and Jess's adventure pulled me in from the beginning and not letting me go until they were safe on home turf with Pippa. A friends to lovers, second chance romance mixed in with a world domination plan in a foreign country where no woman is safe. Strong well written characters with a story line to keep pulling you a little deeper to try and uncover the whos and whys.
I really enjoyed this book, even though it started off a bit slow and draggy.
The book seems to mainly follow Sean as he meets Jess again and they fall in love while also fighting against Isaad and the faceless Deep 8 organization set on destroying the world as they know it. However, we do see into Jess and even Pippa's heads periodically through the book too.
Sean and Jess were best friends as children and each had pretty rough upbringings -- Sean's dad was an abusive alcoholic and Jess's foster dad was mentally, emotionally, and psychologically abusive. They seemed to understand each other really well and rely on the other to basically survive their trauma. And as they got older and grew closer, their feelings naturally evolved. Jess had loved Sean basically since she was 16 and Sean was completely in love with her for nearly as long too. But Sean's upbringing had pretty devastating consequences for him when it comes to relationships -- he was afraid that he'd become like his father and hurt Jess or destroy any of the good things they had if they were to get together. So he abandoned Jess, left her basically friendless and moved on, eventually marrying another woman he didn't care for and joining the Navy to be a SEAL. If it weren't for the assignment Sean gets from his security company, he may never have been able to find Jess again or get their happily ever after.
The mystery in this book was also pretty intense and Isaad was instantly dislikeable, which is good for an antagonist. Sean had been Isaad's friend for years, but they had lost contact after Sean left the military. It took Sean a really long time to separate the Isaad from his memory and the one he was now working with -- and it was really realistic that it happened like that. Even if Sean had known that something was off from the very beginning, he couldn't just turn his back on someone he fought in a war with. It literally goes against everything he knows and believes in. I did find Isaad's traumatic motivation for everything really heartbreaking, but it still doesn't excuse what he was doing or who he was hurting.
It did take Sean a really long time to piece together that Pippa, Jess's foster sister, was Red Enigma even though he also found out she was being held by Isaad at the mansion but somewhere completely hidden from everyone. He was looking for a hacker, Pippa was a hacker -- big shock...
And then Isaad revealing that he knew all about Jess and Sean's past and that he orchestrated it all came across as annoying, almost like he didn't want to lose to them even though he was losing to them. But then again, Isaad was just really annoying in general with his 'I'm doing it to protect you guys' or 'You wouldn't understand because you're American and don't know what this country is like.' Very annoying and repetitive and unlikeable. Good villain, bad character for readers to understand and read about.
The romance was cute between Jess and Sean and I'm glad we also got to see inside Jess's head at times because she, as a character, was very quiet and introspective with regards to her feelings and many of her thoughts. Overall, glad they worked everything out and were happy together.
I wanted to see more of Sean's team and his interactions with them, and I didn't particularly enjoy the cliffhangery ending (but it's leading into book 2 of the series -- so it's a bit forgiven). I was also intrigued by Pippa's backstory and her closeness to Declan and Beck. Very interested to see where it goes and how Beck's story plays out in book 2. I'm definitely going to check out the rest of the series as it comes out.

This is a novel from The Deep 8 series and it is Sean and Jess story and omg this book is absolutely amazing. Sean is a ex navy seal but he now runs his own security company MBK Global security and for everything that he has gone through he has never forget Jess the girl he walked away from to protect her but he always regretted doing that but after his next mission he has decided that he will find her and tell her how he feels and hopefully she will feel the same way but his next assignment is a big shock in it's is when he arrives in Afghanistan. Jess is an investigative reporter and when her sister contacts her to say that she is being held prisoner by a warlord in Afghanistan Jess decides to go and use the cover name of Daphne to write a article on Isaad who is the wealthiest man in Afghanistan and also find her sister but what she wasn't expecting was to see Sean after so many years in Isaad's house and Jess asks herself why is Sean there and will he be able to help her and her sister get out alive. Sean and Jess have a long history since they were childhood friends but now years later and in a dangerous situation everything comes to a head and they need to get out alive before they can explore how they feel about each other. Omg this book was absolutely amazing and I couldn't put it down as the characters and storyline pulled you in right from the first page and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next and this book certainly keeps you on your toes with all its twists and turns along the way and it was so addictive. This is the first book that I have read by Kenzie Macallan but definitely not the last as it was so well written and definitely worth reading and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Wow, pass the popcorn and coke! I love these kind of storylines, set in foreign lands, ex-military, stealth rescue missions, action, adventure, danger, romance! Sign me up! This story is like my favorite kind of action movie!
This is a second chance friends-to-lovers story about Sean and Jess who were best friends as children but drifted apart as young adults. They reconnect in Afghanistan of all places after many years estranged, when ex-Navy Seal Sean accepts an extraction/rescue mission and runs into Jess who is an investigative journalist, doing some undercover work of her own. The ensuing drama and suspense had me glued to the pages.
Their reconnection is sweet and sultry, they are a sexy pair with great chemistry. Although how they manage to get busy amidst the stress of the situation was a bit bewildering. But I am all about finding love in unexpected places.
This is a new to me author, the blurb intrigued me and even though I like these kind of stories I don't often read them. I thought the pace of the first half of the book was a bit slow, but it definitely picked up in the second half. While some parts were predictable, the ending went in a direction I wasn't expecting. I also like how it is drawing us into this mysterious Deep 8 world. I am even more intrigued, if a bit boggled by the last revelation, with how the next one will play out. This is a good book to dive into and lose yourself in the adventure for a few hours!

Sean Is sent there to find a renowned hacker , to his surprise he is shocked to find Jess being held captive . Jess and Sean have a last together as they were childhood. sweethearts until Sean abruptly left to pursue his dream of becoming a seal .Sean is not determined to do anything he had to to rescue Jess and bring her home safely . This book , exceeded all my expectations. IT IS A MUST READ!!
Kenzie Macallan is a new author for me. I was impressed by the depth of the storyline as well as the charaters.
Sean Knight who is a former Navy Seal now owns a security firm along with a few of his retired seal friends as well as others,
He was hired to go to Afganaistan to find a hacker named Red Enigma. When he arrives he finds an old friend of his during his deployment days wanting his assistancce with a mine which is a good cover for Sean.
Isaad is the man that assisted Sean and his team during their deployments to ensure everthing went well.
Sean is surprised to see Isaad, but more surprised to see his childhood best friend who is now a journalist writing an aricle about influential and powerful people in Afganistan. However, she is using another name and Sean needs to know what is really going on.
Jess is there to find her sister Pippa as she knows she is at Isaad's home being held prisoner.
Throughout the book there are many twists and turns, lots of action. A great read.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect going into my first book from Kenzie Macallan but Wild is the perfect title for this ride.
I could feel the tension and anxiety radiating off of Sean as he tried to get answers. But it was the complete shock when he came face to face with Jess after years apart that warmed me to him. Jess being there changed the game for him, raised the stakes on the seemingly simple mission.
The more time Jess and Sean spend together trying to get answers, the deeper the situation they were in became. Knowing they could only trust and rely on each other brought them closer and helped them put some past pain to rest.
A rescue, a reconciliation, revelations and romance. Between all the danger and unknown, Jess and Sean's second-chance romance was tender and full of promise. And the way the other characters were introduced was a solid set up for what is to come in the series.
A deep dive into experiencing a fast pace suspenseful second chance romance with so much more. The back story to Sean and Jess plays out against the present, done in a way that does not detract, only enhances. To see Seans childhood, combined with his service then what is transpiring with Issad is a total heart breaker. Jess jumps into the frying pan for friends and family and brings a squirt bottle to the fire. Jess runs on emotion. Sean and Jess were a great fit. The background for this story takes place in Afghanistan and some of the customs are entwined in the story. They say power corrupts, the desire for revenge corrupts, but I disagree. The opportunity to have power or to succeed a quest can corrupt, but you must be seeking it, be open to it. Sean and Jess and other team members we meet can attest to that. First time author for me. Thank you for the arc #booksirens #kenziemacallan #wilddeep8 I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
This was a blind date read and an introduction to a new-to-me-author...and just what I need another author on my TBR tower to the moon lol. Sean is an ex SEAL..is there really such a thing? I'm sure there's no ex about a serving man, he still gets called out for rescue missions. This mission is very mysterious, he's no idea who he is saving and what his old friend has to do with it. A whole lot more going on that he could imagine. An old child hood friend is there, why and is she there of her own free will? Emotions run high while he is in protective mode. I enjoyed their journey from child hood friends to adult lovers all while in danger. Will they all get out alive? And what is the mystery, who is pulling the strings over money and power? Great story, I really enjoyed it.
Another new author for me, introduced via #QuirkyBlindDateWithABook.
Sean and Jess were friends growing up but drifted apart later on. Sean is ex-military who runs his own security team. Jess is an investigative journalist. They end up reunited in Afghanistan after Sean takes an assignment to rescue mission. Jess is there doing some work herself.
The story started out a little slow but that didn't last to long, the pace picked up and I was completely drawn into the story and the characters. Some was predictable and parts kept me guessing on what was going to happen. It left me wanting to know more about the Deep 8 world and the rest of the team. I am intrigued, drawn in and needing more.
I look forward to reading more from this author and more of Deep 8 series.
Friends to lovers, friends to enemies An awesome Wild ride, a well written story and great plot with plenty of suspense and tension. Childhood friends that drifted apart, they ended up in the same place at the same time and now they have to try and escape. A gripping read, with plenty of steam and chemistry. It kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. This is a stand alone read, but there are characters from prior books that come back to visit, so best be sure to read the prior books on the series too, they are all great. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
I had a hard time with this book. The storyline was OK, but the writing seemed to be a bit choppy. It was also a bit confusing in parts when it would jump around. I kept feeling like there was a whole different series of books that I needed to read before this one in order to understand the background of the characters. It kept talking about other characters and events like the reader was supposed to know about them. I think it could be a good story and even a good series, but it needs some work first in my opinion.
