I read this series online over 3 days and didn't really stop to think of it as a serialized work. So this is more a general review of the whole series without spoilers.
Overall: I really liked it. This could have been very generic however the strong character decisions and quirks make this series a blast to read and very fun time.
I do feel the series eventually becomes more story driven and a bit more boring as we get less character moments. The ending to me is weak.
However as a whole work I enjoyed it and had a great time
What a story. Great fucking characters, amazing antagonists. To live without fear was such a unique mindset to have with the enemy, forgor his name. This story got me nonstop reason simply for the way Satou got better n better at speaking about his emotions and in general to the people he cared for. Was also very fun to c someone enjoy mundane chores. The whole cast were great, with the yakuza being by far my fav characters. EBIHARA THE GOATEST. The Fable is high on my list now 🙈
Highly recommend. For some reason, this series has yet to take off outside of Japan. It has sold around 25 million copies and is ranked among the best. There's very little buzz though and it's a real shame... "The Fable" is a true gem.
The first part of "The Fable" series was a great read. Excited to check out the sequel.
It's interesting to see the world's "best" hitman have to live a normal life. The idea of the Boss wanting better for his 'son' and 'daughter' was great. Akira and Youko finding themselves a father in Takoda was touching... seeing the way the rest of their found family gathers around them was touching. I'm happy that Akira and Misaki officially become an item, even if it's just a ruse for the sake of her protection... I believe they'll get together fr fr!
The humor in this manga series is soooo good. It takes off some of the pressure from the serious nature of the characters and does a lot to humanize them. The expressions are god-tier and really help sell some of the jokes made. Youko's dates were hilarious. Akira's ability to switch characters at a moment's notice was hilarious.
Art is gorgeous. I'm a real sucker for the 'old' stuff and it was a real pleasure to see that artstyle being used in what is a pretty recent publication. Very detailed.
Action scenes were amazingly done. Some of the stuff is, of course, superhuman and just flat-out impossible in real life... but it's cool as hell and that's really all that matters.
≛ The plot is incredibly original, and the characters are fantastic—even the baddies are well-done. It's action-packed from beginning to end. Once you start reading it, you can't put it down.
≛ I also really like the art style and illustrations. It never gets boring because, despite the harsh scenes, the characters, particularly the major ones, Akira and Yoko, are entertaining and hilarious.
≛ I read this because I was left hanging after the first season of the anime. I'm eagerly looking forward to Season 2 next year. This manga is one of the greatest I've read this year. I'm also excited to read The Fable: The Second Contact. Next, I'll look into Sakamoto Days, which will be adapted into an anime in January of next year.
≛ All things considered, it’s addicting and enjoyable to read. Highly recommended!
I loved this. Has a 80s vibe to it but obviously set in modern times. Loved Yokou (the sister) better than the main character. She was fire and cotton candy.
Another series completed. A bit turn off with the last arc build up. But the ending is good. Can't be bother to complain. Will checkout the second part next time.
