This book is simple, yes, but it is a great way to start having representation in reading - especially for younger students. The story focuses on an African-American family and their Sunday traditions. It wouldn't necessarily be a read aloud book, but it would be nice to have something for young readers to pick up to either learn more about a different culture or to feel included in the world of reading.
Synthia Saint James is an amazing author however I couldn't really relate to this book. It was too simple and not all familes live life like this. This story is about an African American family and how they live life on Sunday. They wake up late, eat a big breakfast, and goto church. The pictures are very colorful but not really detailed. Children will enjoy reading this book because of the illustrations and how simple the sentences are. If I were to introduce this book to my class I would jjust read it for short story time.
