Suffer a Witch to Reign #1

Heir to the Underworld

Rate this book
I must be cursed, or the Tree of Life messed up.

Fire is an evil power, only wielded by those of the Underworld, so why do I, a Spirit witch, have it?

As I turn eighteen, I become the Crown Princess of the Gaia Realm, a home to humans and witches. My name is Carmen, and me and my family rule. We’re a family of Spirit witches. Sometimes we can see the dead. Some of us have clairvoyance, or an affinity with animals. But me? I also have elemental magic, the most dangerous of all: the power to burn.

After my Crowning, I begin training to take the throne. I have three trainers. Ares, son of the War Commander, to teach me battle strategy. Matthew, a strong Spirit witch, to help me focus my power. And Cristian, a human, son of a blacksmith, to teach me weaponry. I’m supposed to find a strong witch as a match to help maintain the magical boundary that keeps my realm safe. I’ve never thought about my future match, until now.

For the first time in my life, I’m interacting with young men, and I’m drawn to all three of them. How do I keep the secret of my evil power? My heart flutters when I touch them, but who can I trust?

Suffer a Witch to Reign is a sister series to Daphne & The Dark Arts.

I can’t stand stories where the MC grows up as a royal in a castle. I also can’t stand slow burn reverse harems. Well, this story is both of those and to my surprise.....I couldn’t put the book down! I think it works for me because I loved the FMC Carmen. The story starts with her 18th birthday and there is a coronation for it. You get to really learn Carmen’s personality through this. She is very insecure due to the fact she struggles to accept the rules of what a royal should do. How they shouldn’t show warmth and equality to their subjects. She struggles to be graceful and act exactly as she is taught to. Throughout the story, as the potential harem is introduced, you see Carmen do less of what is expected as a princess and starts doing what she knows to be right. She learns through the different men in the potential harem how the different classes of people act and react to each other AND how they view the royal family. It is extremely eye opening for her. I also love how the characters are clumsy and awkward. It’s a super cute, action adventure type story (definitely YA). The characters have some comedic moments and some eye opening situations. It does end on a cliffhanger and has zero steam for a romance but if that doesn’t bother you, I would give this story a go. I like my romances to be totally dark, medium to fast burn and I still enjoyed this story even though it was the exact opposite. I am excited to see how this develops.

This book is just fantastic. Not only is it action packed (and you wish the main character would just listen to you), but there’s some seriously beautiful relationships that bloom and lots of character development. I love how the main character is a product of her upbringing, but wants to be better and has the guts to change. You can tell fairly early in who will be part of her RH, but it’s realistic enough that they don’t just “fall in love” or, in bed, as it were. A great story with lots of nail biting moments. Wonderful new author!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. Most reverse harem books have a bad habit of being instalove which this is not. This is a slow burn story with some great characters and a few little twists thrown in that keep you from putting it down. I finished this book only a couple hours after it being sent to me and am anxiously waiting for the next one.

I absolutely loved this book - how it was written, the plot and the characters. You are introduced to the princess whose not some whiney pampered girl she’s someone who has ideas and wants the best for the people. Then you meet the guys, each different in their own way and she’s able to unite them to her bit by bit. I don’t wanna give away the plot so please read this it’s sooo worth it!

We follow Carmen a witch, after her 18 birthday she discovers she has a power she shouldn't have.

As the princess and heir she needs to have three instructors to help her and teach one.

The first one Is Ares, he is in charge of strategy and at first I really liked him and now all I want to do is slap him each time he opens his mouth (you need to read the book to understand why I did a U turn on my feelings for him.

Then for magic she is teached by Matthew, he became my favorite. And lastly Cristian, a human is teaching her to fight.

The book is short but if you want a quick and enjoyable read this is for you

Mislabeled

Ok so I have read the entire series. It is put forward as a reverse harem. She spends the first 3 books not kissing anyone and takes one of them to bed in the last book.

Great read. This was really refreshing because while it is a reverse harem story, it's a slow burn, and that was nice to read. A lot of times they end up being insta love stories, which are sometimes great, but sometimes it's just so unrealistic it's hard to swallow, this one is great though because you really get to meet the characters, build the relationships, develop the plot... It's fantastic, I love seeing how their feelings and attitudes towards each other shift and grow! Moreover, the plot is amazing, I'm so excited to see where the rest of the series goes because I got hooked. This first book is a little slower because the relationships aren't fully developed yet, and you're just being introduced to not only the characters but also the world, but despite being a bit slower, it's still reels you in and makes you anxious for the sequel because by the end, you just wanna know what's happening next and you feel like you need all the answers!

I received this as an ARC and I demolished this book pushing everything else to the side while doing so. Fantasy wasn’t my “thing” but I tell you what, this book has changed me. It made me see this genre in a different light and I am thankful. Don’t sleep on this author. Her words weaved such a beautiful story I wanted to cry at the end of the book because I wanted me. Bring on the magic D.H. Dawson. I’m over here impatiently waiting for book 2 to drop. Read this book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This a great coming of age story with a little magic and world building thrown in. I am a sucker for king 👑 and queen 👑 time settings to this was definitely a win for me

Fair warning ⚠️ normally I bring the spice with my books but this is a YA ... So far

I can’t wait to see how Carmen’s story pans out with her powers and her cute 🥰 instructors

Good But Not Detailed Enough For My Preference

While I very much enjoyed the premise and the MFC, Carmen, this story was lacking in length and in description. There were action sequences but they were not built up or layered so they lacked tension and impact. Though I prefer more character, world and relationship building, I believe that those looking for a quick entertaining story will enjoy this book.

First YA book that I read in a short period of time

Fabulous, amazing, witches, Cerberus, Hades, Knights, Helmets, hunting humans, hunting witches, Gaia & good & evil.
A young Princess gets a power she is trying to figure out how she got it. And how to use it.
This book takes you from her birthday to finding out some interesting facts about her and her family. This book didn't take long in reading cause I really wanted to find out what was going on can't wait for book # 2.

Cute start to the series. Totally tame on the RH side, maybe for a younger audience as FMC is just 18. Enough plot to make it interesting and an easy read.

I loved this book. The characters are well thought out. So far, it's a little bit of a slow burn. All in all, it's a great start to a new series. I can't wait to find out what will happen next for these characters.
