I really enjoyed the first book in the Shadow Fate trilogy, Pawn, and was more than willing to dive straight into book two. In fact, I was rather desperate to dive into Sacrifice. I needed to know what happened next, I needed to know how everything came together, and I had high hopes for the second book.
Although I did enjoy Sacrifice, I did not enjoy it quite as much as I enjoyed the first book. If I’m being honest, this book is more of a three-point-five-star read, yet I couldn’t quite bring myself to round it up. It held my attention throughout, I was happy to see how everything came together, but it didn’t quite wow me in the way the first book did.
I think part of the reason for this is that I went in expecting something different to what I was given. It seems the things I’d been expecting are going to play out in the third book, with this one building us up to what promises to be an amazing final book. It’s not that this book is a filler book, it simply didn’t provide quite the same level of action and intrigue as the first book. In many ways, this book was a way to fill in a lot of our information blanks. It was a book that opened up the world even more, a book that provided us with interesting new information.
If you enjoyed the first book, you certainly need to give this second book a read. It’s a much quicker read, it gives us quite a bit of information, and leaves us plenty eager for the final book.
The duo have done it again. I just was sucked into this amazing world from the first word. Now, with the second installment, I can't put it down. Endora was such a sweet and sassy heroine. I loved her strength and she was completely relatable. I also liked that despite being a supernatural world and supossedly extremely powerful, Endora is still human. Endora makes mistakes and realizes them before making things an epic proportion of disaster.
The world building is an A+. I loved the different take on Greek mythology. There is such a different take on it and I loved it. The gods and everyone isn't who you think they are. The villain is someone you would never expect, and there are twists that you will see that you have never seen coming. In addition, the action was super awesome. I liked the fight scenes and found myself loving that the most out of any part of the novels.
The romance was overall pretty good. I liked how it was focused on Endora, and less on her romance. Her romance and the chemistry between the characters is still smoking hot, but there is real emotion. I also liked how characters are super hormonal and wanted to truly understand before having a relationship.
All in all, just one click this novel, and you will love it. Can't wait for the conclusion to this amazing PNR trilogy.
I thought book one, Pawn, was action packed and full of twists and turns... This book heightened that. A few questions were answers and new ones formed. I couldn't stop listening. I had to find out what was going to happen next and what secrets and surprises were to be exposed. Endora and Kayden are on the run to find out the truth. As they expose more and more of the mysterious story of both of their fates, they start to form a closer relationship. Then we are hit with another ending that makes us need way more. I love this series. It's a fun YA story that is truly addicting. I am so invested with the characters. I feel like I am on this adventure with them! Part of that is this authors great writing, and the other part is the narrator who is the perfect voice for these characters and this overall theme.
Dived head first into this series and started book 2 shortly after finishing the first book. Sacrifice, starts off where the first book ended. We follow both Eel and Kaydon on their journey trying to find this mysterious gate. I struggled with the couple on this book a bit due to them hiding stuff from each other but I have to remember that they did it because they thought they were okay in keeping that information to themselves. I enjoyed learning more of the puzzle as they did. The mythology factor is great. I absolutely love it and the world building along the way is great!!
The book basically continues at the point where Pawn ended, however, I feel like the author cheated me. Why? First, I think the book is not long enough, second, Eel and Kaydon have lost their love spark (not in the story, I feel like they did lost it), third, the book is slow pacing... they both are searching for the gates to the other realm, but the search is a bit boring and too long for my liking (or if the search is long, then there have to be a lot of action).
I did not connect with the heroes at all. I loved the first book so much that I feel lost as I do not love the second one. I hope that third will be fun and enjoyable read again.
*I received an ARC from the author’s team. The expressed opinion is my own.
Highly recommend for YA and Adults!! I have listened to Shadow Fate 1. This has a smooth transition from Book 1 into Book 2. I adored the writing and plot just as much as I did in Book 1. The story was consistently in line and just as action packed and intriguing. The author, Sophie Davis, did add a new twist with convos between Devon and Jameson. And I must say, with a great deal of humor. Devon's one-liners to Jameson cracked me up and I was roaring with laughter!
Kate Richardson did an exemplary job with narration. I have listened to her before and she has always done well. She had a few more voices to add to her repertoire and managed them with ease.
The only drawback to this book, and it isn't much of one at all, is that it ended a tad bit sooner than I expected, chapter and time wise. But anyone following this series will easily understand why it did so. Readers of Shadow Fate have known from the middle of Book 1 that a trip into Tartarus was in the works. It has been a well established fact of this plotline. And I expect the timing was the natural ending of earth realm and, I expect, the next will be seeing us in Tartarus fairly quickly.
Love this trilogy!! The books are shorter than books in Sophie's other series (I think), but no less action, plot, mythology, and inventiveness is included!! Truly, this book is so well-researched, and several characters had complete story arcs/changes that I really never expected. Of course, I love following the relationship at the heart of the book between Eel and Kaydon, because of course there has to be a compelling love story. I would cry if anything happened to break them up! My only small quibble (though it wasn't enough to deduct a star) was that there were quite a few typos. Not sure if it is something that just always happens in Kindle editions, or if they need a better editor, or if I am being overly critical, but there were quite a few missing words, wrong words, characters' names spelled wrong. Those kind of things just jump out at me. But, if you just put those aside, the characters and storyline are absolutely splendid. Note: I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
A lot happens in this book in such a short time. Eel and Kaydon are still trying to find a gate into the Underworld. Jamieson and Devon come to help. Jamieson finds out shes more than she thinks she is. A lotmore questions are asked in this book with little answers. The reason for little answer is because Eel needs to figure things out for herself. If you have read the first book which you need to, to understand this book then you will enjoy reading this book. Now we just wait until book 3 comes out to find out how it all ends.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
I didn’t want this to end!! I absolutely love this story and the world the Sophie’s have built for us. We get some more answers as well as some interesting twists in this latest installment and I enjoyed every single minute of it.
These characters are just so well written, and I love the group of individuals along for the ride to the underworld in this book. I really look forward to what lies ahead in the underworld, and I’m dying for Eel to get more answers.
I’m a bit bummed because this is a trilogy and I’m nowhere ready for this fun series to end, but I am so ready for the next book to come out!
I received this ebook as an ARC from one of my favourite authors. Sacrifice continues the story of Eel and Kaydon trying to get answers on their fate. Where I struggled to jump straight into the first in this series I got into the flow of this one pretty well straight away. Not sure if it was because I already invested in the characters or if the story moved a little quicker. There's a couple twists in this one that I definitely didn't see coming. Can't wait to see what twists and surprises await in the Underworld for Eel and hopefully Kaydon
I had a hard time getting through this book for some reason. Yes Endora and Kaydon are running for their lives and that usually hooks me, but I feel like it kind of fell flat. There is no real vibe between Endora and Kaydon like the first book and it felt like the whole book was just meant to set up the direction of the story for the third book. I do look forward to book 3 to see what on earth is going to happen with the events that happened at end of Sacrifice.
Absalutely brilliant book. Loved reading sacrificed. I will most certainly continue to read Sophie Davis's books. This is fewer words than he Would like but I like to review as soon as I finish a boom so I can be accurate, however we lost out internet for several weeks and now I feel in order to review with the excitement I usually have I need to 're read.
But I highly recommend reading these books I did very much enjoy them.
My review is based on the audiobook. Endora and Kaydon's journey continues and once again we are taken on a fast paced journey. I had a hard time putting this one down since alot of answers were revealed however as any good Book 2 it still left me with quesions Book 2 that I'm sure will be answered in the next book. The narrator was on point with perfect pacing and distingushable character voices. I look forward to seeing where theis journy leads next
I’ve been waiting for forever for this book to come out and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! Kaydon & Eel continue on their journey to save themselves and along the way make some startling revelations and make some new friends (or are they?). There were definitely a few surprises along the way that I didn’t see coming. Can’t wait for the next one! 😍😍
I was given this book as an ARC for my honest opinion. I am a fan of the Sophie duo, their writing, storylines and characters come alive off of the pages and always keep me engaged. This second book of the “Shadow Fate” trilogy is no exception. Endora and Kayden are a sweet couple that are joined by their friends in a Percy Jackson type of adventure. I’m waiting patiently for the finale :)
I was thrilled to receive this book as an ARC to give my honest opinion. Another hit book! I was so pleased with this book and thought it was a great second part of the trilogy. It did not have as much intensity I thought as the first one but I liked how we got to see the characters develop more. I did not want it to end. I am so excited for Checkmate to come out.
I DO RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE , IS THAT IT HAD A POOR WAY TO END THIS STORYLINE! I DO DISLIKE 👎ALL 📚BOOKS, THAT END, "WITHOUT A REAL ENDING!" IT HAS WONDERFULLY WELL WRITTEN CHARACTERS AND THE STORY WAS SO PLEASANT TO READ! 😍😊😀
Thrilling and full of suspense. This book dives in to uncover more of the mystery of who and what Endora is. I enjoyed the journey and the twists the story took. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Wow. What a brilliant addition to this fabulous series. Endora and Kandon continue their journey, but now they have the help of others. Who are they? What will happen next? Cannot wait for the conclusion of this series.
Book #2 of the Shadow Fate series continues on where we left off in Pawn. Endora and Kaydon are joined by friends to continue the hunt. I love the creativity of this supernatural world the authors have created. Can't wait for book 3 to see what happens!!
This is the second book of a trilogy. I found it a bit short but it accomplished everything it needed to. This book answered a lot of questions and it paved the way for the third book. Although I wasnt blown away, I did enjoy it and look forward to the next one.
This was Another great installment in the Shadow Fate trilogy. Loving Endora’s story more and more as the plot progresses. And the secondary characters are awesome. Would love to see a spin-off with some of them. Five glittery stars!
Wow this continuation of the story helps answers a lot of questions! The romance is a bit lacking in this one so no girly swoon moment but the ending leaves you craving to know what happens next!!
I enjoyed this addition to the series. Eel and Kaydon are on the hunt for her dad, and trying to figure out what makes Eel so different. They’re also running from the people trying to kill them. The storyline is great, and the characters are awesome as well. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
