Prologue By the time Heidi came running down the stairs, she had her entire family’s attention, but she ignored them as she ran directly toward me. She slowed down at the last second, slipping behind my back and grabbing my arm, as if she was trying to use me as a physical shield. Needless to say, everyone was looking at her in alarm now. Her face was bright red, her pulse visible in her neck, as she spoke up the moment that the guy following her made it halfway down the stairs. “I have an announcement to make,” she said loudly, not looking at anyone directly. “Sam isn’t just Lexi’s coworker. He’s also my boyfriend.” Absolute silence. Painfully, awkward, silence. “Oh,” her mother finally said loudly, a mixture of confusion and dread in her expression. “Heidi, sweetie, if he’s your boyfriend, then why didn’t you tell us?” “Because,” Lexi announced, beginning to walk over, her expression determined. She waited until she was hooking my other arm before continuing. “He’s also my boyfriend,” she said bluntly. The Immortal series has recently become one of my favorites. I love the characters, the futuristic setting, the drama and the love the MC and his "pride". The worst part is waiting for more!
Good but drifting More slice of life, with just a little action. Mostly as good as previous books, but the story is getting weird, and that's a lot of wives and girlfriends to keep track of. Every time the MC uses a female name I have to stop and think witch one that is.
It amazes me how fast time can run when a book and it’s content is something you enjoy. I started the book early in the morning, when I looked at the clock, again, it was afternoon. I think I like the chemistry and equality between the individual characters of Sam‘s family. How they complement and support each other, especially between the female MC‘s. When there are so many people involved in a relationship than there some hiccups and problems to overcome. Mr. Eckstein has point to pick out those issues that can occur in such a relationship and solves them in a way I appreciate - honesty. There is not one scene where I would say that is fake respectively unnecessary drama added to create an even more unnecessary story arc that gets solved in the dumbest way possible, like it seems to be trend in other books nowadays. The different storylines get pushed forward in a continuous way and reveals twists and turns without flooding the reader with too much details.
Though this book had most of the hallmarks of it's predecessors, I didn't love it as much.
It felt like the author kept shoving more and more emotional complications in it, to the point that it stopped making sense. I stopped being able to empathise with the characters. The emotional and psychological intelligence displayed in the previous books took a small hit as well. Like this was a 3.5-4.0 rather than the ussual 4.0-4.5. Some of the emotional problems that were "resolved" were not resolved as completley or as well as I have come to expect from this series.
The issues with Winter alone felt somewhat shoehorned in and made her feel more opaque and confusing as a character. It made sense (sort of) on a surface level but beneath that it lost credibility.
Over all, I might choose to continue the series, but I am dissapointed.
(Disclosure: Some of my displeasure is related to my personal stances and conclusions differing from the author's. In the past I've enjoyed the story challenging my conceptions. I did not this time. I also think that most of my evaluation above still stands regardless. I only wish I could rate 3.5 ⭐ stars.)
Most haremlit books i read, the relationships between MC and the girls is secondary, usually with very little thought or development, to the main action plot of the story. This series is pretty much the opposite, with the focus solely on MC and his gradually growing family, and coping with the trials and tribulations thrown at this familial unit. It's honestly a refreshing change. I love watching these people living their everyday lives, planning dates, and attending to each others needs, and trying to keep it all healthy and working, while occasionally having to deal with crises usually connected with the slowly developing main plot of the series.
That ending was so good. I did not expect that twist coming. also the underwater mission, very interesting and intriguing. I will say, curtis, you really really really really overdid it with the exposition and monologuing the characters did in this book. Somewhere in the vicinity of 81 to 83% of this book was inner monologue or area descriptions. Rather than character interactions. That's a lot dude. Still an awesome book, and a way better ending than i. I'm excited to see what the next one has in store
Superhero harem adult situations Sam Archer settles into his new job as a professional superhero, traveling to work with Lexi. The family adjusts to Winter joining the group dynamic, while Lily and Freya focus on home life with Heidi lending a hand with Rose and Eden. In some ways a sedate entry as everyone adjusts to living together, but while one threat is dealt with, a meet threat is introduced and Ramzi Haroun makes his presence known. Enjoyable.
A good read with the beginning of one man and the creation of a unique family. Each members has a strange story to tell. A story which has the main character accept people of different backgrounds to be members of his family. Stories link all the members and each family members tells their perspective. A good family plot and ways they survived together. A good read.
Got to say this one was another great book by our boy Kurtis, we get alot more character interaction and development that was a bit shocking and interesting at the same time, we also really get to dive into Sam's powers and continue on trying to figure out the maid threat. All and all amazing series cant wait for more
The series must be drawing to a close, but it's not over yet, so...here's another book.
By this point you know what to expect, and you won't be dissapointed. I loved it, but it's still goofy nonsense that could really use an editor and doesn't make much sense if you think about it.
(Also, the first few books used fade-to-black for the sex scenes; not sure when it changed exectly but it's pretty explicit at this point. I don't care either way, but some may.)
The series as a whole is a fantastic mix of slice of life and super hero action. Leaning more towards slice of life. Great series I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a mature twist on thw super hero trope.
The story telling within this series is astounding. The chemistry between characters makes them feel more real and the entire premise more believable. The characters feel real and the flushed out romance is unique and marks the series as a must read in this genre.
The way the plot progress felt natural and fluent and the characters feel alive my only complaint is that Lily felt pushed to the side a little to often despite her inportants other then that can wait till the next one
Great book that deals with strong emotions and an unconventional family in the making. Still seems as if Sam and fam don’t have much control over the rudder on the ship they call life. Hope they eventually find it.
Now that eden has been resurrected Lilly Freya winter must finish the quest of finding out who the children were that is bringing up the memories of the past
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
Another good book in the series. I like how it is tying into the Omega series and how well the family is coming together. Looking forward to the next book.
The level of introspection and character development and the total time devoted to those things is kind of overwhelming at moments, but the reality is that in books with mind reading and telepathy aspects... the plot falls completely apart without it. So all in all this is a relaxing and enjoyable read, but def not something you would read for excitement. Both the action kind and the "other" kind ;)
I continue to enjoy this series. Sam now has a seemingly complete harem, and the focus is mostly on the management of those relationships and the group dynamics. Overall, character development continues to be prioritized, and it’s interesting to see how far we’ve come in five books. Who would have expected the jealously rapey vampire to develop into the supporting matriarch of this little family? I really like Winter’s character as well, but she is a little too honest. Author really loves the slow reveals as he teases us once again at the end of this book. I am curious to see what happens next, but it has been over two years since this release, so hopefully we get book 6.
