The Way of Legend #2

Forging Destiny

Rate this book
The highly anticipated sequel to RECLAIMING HONOR is finally here. Bestselling and award-winning author of STIGER’S TIGERS and the KARUS SAGA, Marc Alan Edelheit has teamed up again with national bestselling author Quincy J. Allen to deliver an epic fantasy adventure, told from the perspective of dwarves.

A Pariah amongst dwarves, Tovak bears the burden of his people’s disdain and his family’s disgrace. And yet, Tovak has proven himself in battle, shown his courage in risking life and limb to save his comrades. Though not everyone accepts him, he has finally found his place as a skirmisher and member of the Baelix Guard Company.

Armed with his faith in his god, ample determination, and unquenchable courage, Tovak soldiers forward. Dispatched on a dangerous mission against the Horde that could mean life or death for his people, his section is sent behind enemy lines. Everything hinges upon the mission’s success.

However, something is not quite right with Tovak. He can feel a power he does not understand building within, guiding his steps forward towards what seems to be destiny. He fears he is losing his mind, but he will not shy away from duty, for in the struggle to come, the warband needs every sword. And make no mistake, desperate times and hard fighting lie ahead. Tovak might just be the key to his people’s salvation, or perhaps even their downfall … for the gods are involved in the fight that is to come.

Struggling against his past, and the stigma of being a Pariah, Tovak must unravel the meaning of this power building within him and forge his own destiny—or die trying.

Set upon the world of Tannis, some years before the arrival of Karus and the Lost Legio IX, this book is a Last War novel.

Long awaited, and worth it

This picks up right where Reclaiming Honor left off. Tovak is gaining some grudging acceptance by the war band, but there's still a long way to travel. He has to walk a thin line between doing the right thing without being reckless and endangering those around him.
I (reluctantly) placed the last book in a young adult category. This one... Not so much. There's some hair raising action going on here, with... A bit of soldierly humor. Some familiar banter between squad mates regardless of era, species, or world.
They say that war changes a man (it does), and although Tovak has just participated in a skirmish or two, he's already well on his way to restoring his Legend.

Well written

Marc creates a world where well developed characters grab your attention and won’t let go. The only downside is that the novels end.

A super read

Marcs books just keep getting better. Making this book last a couple of days was impossible, and was finished way to soon. May the next installment come quickly, and be three times as many pages !!

Thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm trying to think of how best to describe why I like this series so much. Particularly as I also really like the Stiger and Karus series.
Tovak , through no fault of his own, is despised by many. (The alleged sins of his father.) However he is a determined, brave and honourable being who, by his actions, changes hearts. However it isn't a walk in the park for him.
Plenty of action, some humour, reflecting a military life.
I'm looking forward to part 3. However I am also hoping that doesn't mean the end of Tovak's story.

FINALLY

Well worth the wait. The guys cut to the chase a bit quicker than i expected but our young dverger hero is great stuff beginning. Short stuff but great stuff. Definitely a great follow up on the first book. Couldn't put this one down either. First time to my knowledge we've got a coming of age dwarf fighting his dubious past. But a great story beginning to dovetail gently with the Karus saga. Hopefully the lads have the bit in thier teeth & part three will happen quickly

The Way Of Legend

The first book in this series was an excellent read and this one continues with even more great reading. The characters are, as always, both interesting and endearing. The plot is exciting, complex and compelling. I look forward to the next book in this series, and also his other works, with great anticipation. I can hardly wait. Marc Edelheit is, in my opinion, the best author in the business.
