Among the 151 people who died in the crash of Flight 94 was Mick Hammon, the plane's captain and Erin Russell's close friend. A pilot herself, Erin now struggles with the shattering losses both of her friend and of her own confidence in the cockpit. With pilot error speculated as the cause of the accident, Erin fights to save Mick's reputation for the sake of the family he left behind. But that fight pits her against Addison Lowe, the crash investigator. Like Erin, he is determined to get at the truth of the disaster. But his conclusions could ruin Mick's good name and the future of Mick's family. Clashing over the details of the disaster, Erin and Addison discover an unexpected, mutual attraction for each other. But it could go down in flames as the investigation spins out of control. Broken Wings is part of the Second Chances series by award-winning suspense novelist Terri Blackstock. Combining fast-paced reading with realistic characters and situations, Second Chances takes readers to where the conflict between good and evil becomes the proving grounds of faith.
Terri Blackstock is a New York Times best-seller, with over seven million books sold worldwide.. She has had over thirty years of success as a novelist.
Terri spent the first twelve years of her life traveling in a U.S. Air Force family. She lived in nine states and attended the first four years of school in The Netherlands. Because she was a perpetual “new kid,” her imagination became her closest friend. That, she believes, was the biggest factor in her becoming a novelist. She sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five, and has had a successful career ever since.
In 1994 Terri was writing romance novels under two pseudonyms for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening prompted her to switch gears. At the time, she was reading more suspense than romance, and felt drawn to write thrillers about ordinary people in grave danger. Her newly awakened faith wove its way into the tapestry of her suspense novels, offering hope instead of despair. Her goal is to entertain with page-turning plots, while challenging her readers to think and grow. She hopes to remind them that they’re valued by God and that their trials have a purpose.
I really enjoyed this final book in the series. The emotions was raw, the characters like-able, and those you were not suppose to like, not like-able.
The up and down emotions between Erin and Addison became a bit too much for me, but it did not take away the enjoyment of this story. I loved how Addison searched for the truth even when his superiors made their own conclusions and wanted him to wrap up the case as fast as possible. I did expect more suspense because all of Terri Blackstock's later books which I've read had a lot of suspense.
The writer did a great job of dealing with Erin's fear of flying and Addison's misplaces loyalty to his work because of his past. It was nice to see them both overcome these strongholds.
Not my favourite series by Terri Blackstock, but still a series I enjoyed.
I thought this was a little boring. A female pilot's usual partner and friend was the pilot in a plane crash. The whole book was about her and a man who was investigating the crash. At times I almost quit reading it, but I did finish it. I usually like this author, but this one didn't measure up for me.
The premise of the store is intriguing, which is this books only saving grace. However, these people are in their 30s and they act like adolescents in puppy love and spend the entire book turning their backs on each other and fighting and angry and “falling in love” in a week. Then they repeat the fighting and angry and hurt act then go back to each other because they’re “in love”. Yuck.
Good book, but not my favorite by Blackstock. The story pacing was a little slow and I didn't engage with the POV character very well. It may be me, as the airline pilot story wasn't my thing. Still enjoyable, but this was not on my top ten Blackstock books.
I found this book on a shelf at a hostel in China. After reading the synopsis, I thought it sounded really good. I immediately began to read it there in the hostel and was instantly hooked! I found I could identify with the characters to some degree in their respective emotional journeys. Both of the main characters, Addison Lowe and Erin Russell are both people trying to overcome the pain of loosing someone close to them. Under unfortunate circumstances, they find each other and are instantly attracted to one another. They quickly begin this rocky romance as they both learn to open their hearts to the healing power of love. This story is a beautiful one, with faith in the Almighty as the healer of both of the troubled hearts of these two main characters. The only downfall, flaw if you will, of this story is that the story line it is a bit predictable. Nonetheless, I would recommend it as a nice summer read and for anyone who has lost someone close to them. This story has a recurring theme centered around the Bible verse in 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self-control." Good words to live by when facing our fears in life! Again, I recommend this sweet story to all needing some encouragement in the process of healing.

I love Terri's books. Filled with realistic characters and an exciting plot. I started the book and couldn't put it down. Tension packed scenes made it a great read. Christian themed "second chance" put the story over the top. After the last page, I felt encouraged and uplifted. 5-Stars.
Drama. Her lip trembled. Her eyes filled with tears. "No!" she whined and cried, "I cannot fly again! Alas!" She clasps her hands to her heart and tears form on her long eyelashes... again. Repeat over and over. Then the man clasps his hands to his heart and says, "I HAVE TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT! Alas!" I'd call the man Dudley DoRight, but I had a kitty named Dudley DoRight and I don't want to shame his memory.
Hard to believe this is about women pilots - you'd think she's portray them as a little tougher. Hard to believe I am admitting I read this.
To top it off, we just watched the Aeronauts, about a woman and a man who go up 7 miles in a hot air balloon in the 1890's. The woman was the tough one, but alas, hands clenched to heart, she was made up for the movie, but Glaisher, the man who got meteorology accepted as a science, was real.
I really enjoyed the total series of second chances. The first two books it took a little time to get involved in. The third and fourth book had me immediately. What I really liked about the characters in the book was though they were plagued with such detrimental obstacles they renewed their faith and trusted God. In the end things worked out. God's favor prevailed. They were willing to take the chances because they knew God was in control. For "we know that all things work together for the good to those who love him and are called according to His purpose". That's the whole thing about life, no matter what life throws at you, your faith and trust in God will see you through and that's what happened in every situation even though they had to struggle at times they held steadfast. When nothing else would do they know God would see them though. Really enjoyed the entire series.
This story was engaging and nicely paced. Erin is a pilot who lost her copilot in an airplane crash, and it has her spooked, afraid to get back in the cockpit. When Addison shows up as an NTSB investigator, Erin feels as if he and the public have already determined that Mick caused the plane crash, and she resents Addison, his questions, and his assumptions. But as Addison, who himself lost his wife in an airplane crash, is able to identify and empathize with Erin, he goes to extra efforts to ensure his team performs a thorough investigation, wherever it may lead. Once Erin realizes Addison is not the enemy, she lets him into her life, risking that he may indeed conclude that her friend and colleague was responsible for the crash, which would be devastating to Erin and Mick's family.
I mistakenly thought this was a new release from Terri Blackstock, but soon noticed nobody had cell phones. My first notice was when Sid slammed down the phone‐‐something that can't happen with a cell phone. I looked back to see the copyright date was 1998. After that was settled, the rest of the story seemed as up-to-date as today. Addison was searching for any reason beyond pilot error for the plane crash. Erin had her own battles with fear and guilt and was finally able to fly again, only to have to make an emergency landing. Excellent book.
4th book in the second chance series. ( I just kept on thinking of the flight that went missing from Kuala Lumper 4yrs ago. People having no bodies to say goodbye to, all the searching in the Indian Ocean) it was a different contemporary story but brought to light the tough jobs that need to find answers for people in tragedy. A hard profession for women pilots in a man's world. That's the series now. Wes n Laney, Justin n Andi, Sherry n Clint, Madeleine n Sam, Addison n Erin.
The story concept was interesting, but I think she could have done more with it. There wasn't a lot of action in the story. The characters were talking, or thinking, about their emotions for most of the book. The end of the book was the most exciting part but it seemed a bit rushed. A light, easy read if you're looking for some "complicated" romance, some relieving resolutions, or even a little mystery.
I started reading Terri Blackstock's more recent books, then decided to go try some of her earlier works. That was a mistake. I have now read all 4 books in this series, and have found them to be little more than sappy romances with obvious, well-worn plots. If the Christian book world had a series of Harlequin-like books, these would fit right in.
Wonderful Christian author. Love her books and stories. This and then this one. Interesting characters, great deseries doesn’t have to be read in order although characters drift over. I read book one then this one. Interesting characters and wonderful story development.
The story was okay, I did come to like the characters and wanted to know how things worked out. But overall the story seemed "shallow". I love the concept of these second chance books, but I wonder if in the process of cleaning them up not enough substance was put in to replace what was removed. Terri Blackstock's later books are much richer in detail.
I really enjoyed this book. It is so fun watching the characters develop in a series. Terri Blackstock does such a great job of developing the characters throughout the series. This one does not disappoint. It is so hard for me to put her books down.
This story about a plane crash and the people and families affected by the crash was really good. It's full of drama and heartbreak. Erin comes across as a little immature at times and acts like a love sick teenager with all her drama.
This was a very interesting read. It held your attention and interest. There was mystery, intrigue, romance, sadness and laughter. Putting their faith and trust in God to work things out makes all the difference.
Once again Terri has us on the edge of our seats, involved in everyday situations, but not quite! Her characters, with all their human emotions and weaknesses show us a picture of the strength of the human soul with the Lord's help. Fantastic book!!
I really liked this book and all I learned about pilots and unions but I didn’t like the love/hate relationship. It feels so juvenile. I know there needs to be tension and hope but this was over the top.
Terri Blackstock is one terrific writer. I have read three of her books to date and will grab at the chance to read another. Depth of emotion, clearly developed characters, believable suspense filled plots and obvious Christian faith make her books stand out.
This is a lovely book about Laney, who had bern forced to give up her illegitimate baby girl for adoption 7 years earlier and her deep desire to find her daughter and maybe be part of her life. Wes and Amy are the other two key characters.
Last book in the second chances series. This one was about a woman pilot who is dealing with the death of her friend, who was also her captain co-pilot. And the romance interest is the man sent to report on why the plane went down…aka her enemy.
Blackstock's characters are so authentic and her plots are riveting. I appreciate the lack of foul language in her books and weaving in some divine guidance is a great reminder for all readers.
A great combination of drama, mystery, and romance. Terri Blackstock has created a plot that keeps the reader interested and developed characters with interesting backstories. I look forward to reading other books in this series.
One thought I had that wa never mentioned in the book, when Erin was struggling with flying again, why not use a flight simulator. She was happy to be able to use that small plane but why not ask to use the simulator?
