More Than He Can Handle

Rate this book
He's One Mistake She Plans To Forget.  .  .     As maid-of-honor to a friend who's gone Bridezilla, Winfred "Freddie" Barker is dealing with minute-to-minute drama from her crazy-extravagant wedding. So when the ceremony is over and the reception starts heating up, Freddie blows off steam with a little champagne--and a lot of the best man, Cleveland Alexander. It was definitely going to be just a one-night fling, 'cause no woman in her right mind would fall for that man's arrogant, self-centered self, no matter how caramel-fine he is.  .  .  She's The One Woman He Can't Live Without.  .  .   As a hard-core bachelor, Cleveland Alexander was strictly all about beddin' and forgettin'. And the only reason he let Ms. Winfred Barker call his bluff was to put her stuck-up attitude in check. But once he sees how complicated and caring she really is, he'll do anything to help solve her problems--and convince her that the love between them is a lifetime of real.  .  .

Disappointing!

I understand that Freddie's mother poisoned her against all men because of the crime Freddie's father allegedly committed. But Cleveland is a good guy! Give him a break!

And what's Bridezilla Lillian's deal? Jealous much?

Lots of twists and turns but with all of the unnecessary sex scenes, it took way too long to get to the point!

I have to admit to being confused about the positive responses. Surprisingly, my feelings had less to do with the relationship between Cleveland (who I found forgettable) and Freddie. I HATED THE HEROINE and was so distracted by the inconsistencies that I could not get involved in the story. I was very irritated by the relationship dynamics between Freddie and Lillian (her best friend). I could not for the life of me figure out why these 2 people spent so much time bickering and belittling each other. Furthermore, Freddie's turmoil surrounding her father was unrealistic. (Spoiler alert)
The conflicts in this story revolve around Freddie's upbringing. When she was a child, her father was arrested for murder and her mother raised her to be mistrustful of men. However, although Freddie is 27, she doesn't quite know the story behind her father's disappearance. In fact, the story starts with Freddy upset that her father left her family in a time of need and Freddie trying to find out more. She's asked her mother for information, but never gets any details from her. Couple of issues here. First, this is the era of technology. Are you telling me that a 27 year old owner/manager of a hotel and college graduate doesn't know enough about computers to Google her father? She wouldn't be able to discover that the man was arrested for murder? Second, her father supposedly murdered a man of God and was vehemently hated by the city. This hate was transferred to his wife and child (so much so they change their name), and again you're saying that NO ONE ever said anything to her about her father murdering a pastor? That's just one of the many things that bothered me about this book.
The timeline was jumpy in some points (when Cleveland first goes to Vegas), details were inconsistent, and in my personal opinion Freddie lacked character growth. Yea, she realized she loved Cleveland in the end, but she didn't change. She was judgmental, unforgiving, and witchy with a capital B. I have to care about the characters and was so disturbed by Freddie that it highlighted the lack of believable conflict and consistent attention to detail that should have been present. Do I believe in strong heroines? Absolutely! But Freddie is not one of them. I give this book 2 stars, because I do appreciate the author using New Orleans as one of the settings and recognizing that there is still work to do after Hurricane Katrina. Otherwise, I don't recommend this book and it is not one that I will be keeping.

Cleveland took Freddie's hand in his. "Why are you trying to be so hard??"
Snatching her hands away from his, Freddie focused and intense glare on him. "Excuse me? So since I'm not throwing myself at you , I'm being hard?"
"That's not what I'm saying, but you could lighten up a bit since you're going to have the pleasure of spending the night with me."
Scoffing at his suggestion, Freddie folded her arms underneath her breasts. "As if that's some sort of prize. I don't want to spend all night here."
"I have a nice room at the Best Western."
Freddie raised her hand to slap him, but Cleveland was quick enough to block her blow. When he enclosed her hand in his, he whirled her around as if they were dancing, then pulled her against his chest. In one quick movement, he brought his lips down on top of hers. Surprisingly, she didn't resist him and she taste even better then she looked.
Freddie didn't realize what was happening until her lips met his. Damn, he felt good, so strong and warm. Why had her treacherous body responded to his soft lips and warm tongue? Why had she melted against thee rigidness of his body? Before she'd gotten too heady from the passion of Cleveland's kiss, Freddie regained her senses and pushed him away. This time her smack made the connection with his jaw....

I was so into this book, that I couldn't put it down. The writer did such a good job, of bringing the audience into this story, as if you were Freddie, being constantly wrapped in Cleveland's arm. The way that Freddie stood her ground, and just didn't allow Cleveland to walk all up in her space, until she was ready, but at the same time Cleveland held to what he truly believed about her being the one, and still standing in her corner, as he would put it "hot and cold" as she was going through family issues. You have to read this book, you will not be disappointed. The steamy sex scenes, will have you having to catch yourself.

Winfred "Freddie" Barker and Cleveland Alexander meet at friends wedding. From the start she doesn't like him. They have a one night fling and he finds himself intrigued with her. Freddie, on the otber hand thinks he's arrogant & self-centered.
To me Freddie has trust issues with men and relationships in general. It was a good book although I was getting tired of Freddie running away every time things got serious between the two of them.

One word...HORRIBLE. Two words...HATED IT.

This was a twenty-seven yrs old woman who acted as if she was mentally seventeen.

I read a previous review were someone said not to buy it and evidently I ignored. I deserve a big fat "L" for not taking heed.

Cleveland Alexander and Winfred "Freddie" Barker meet as best man and maid of honor, it's hate at first site for these two. He's arrogant, she's independent, he's a player, she has attitude and the list goes on. Can they make it through the wedding activities with out killing each other?

Freddie, the heroine, was annoying. Hate characters who claim they cant stand somebody but continuously haves sex with that person. They would have sex and immediately afterwards she would say it was a mistake and get ghost.
