"Attention everyone! This is a directive from Stellar’s serving Grand Legate! Locate Star Shooter. Eliminate the Daat. Restore the First Legion. Upon completion, use any means possible to lift the Black Moon Alert!"
The Council of the Archons has been overthrown. Prometheus’ final orders have been received. Still, a new menace is about to sweep over the City. Grey sets off for Neo Ark in order to face his old enemy. Or is it a friend? After all, no one really knows who the first Incarnators were or how they ended up on planet Earth.
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
As the title says this is an Advance Copy Review and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis. I hate trying to define my enjoyment and describe facets of it that would appeal to someone else. It is simply not my style. But for the sake of those fishing for clues:
Character development: good
Game elements: minimal
Harem elements: none
Tone: serious, martial theme
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
I received a review copy of this book. The Archon is the fifth book in this series, and in this one, we see things come to a head (at the end of the book), so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next book. It's war for sure, but with who, and who's fighting who is of course still up for debate. Fun stuff.
Unlike the previous books, the title of this one doesn't make much sense to me. This installment starts with the third and final part of the info-dump that started at the end of book 4. Just like parts 1 and 2, I needed to physically re-read the explanations to truly understand the full scope of the issues between the Possessed, the Incas and other humans. Although subtle, there's a thorough merge of science and spirituality that I wasn't expecting. Is The Edge our final rest, eternal damnation or just a section of the universe closed off to us? Curiouser and curiouser.
I received an ARC of this book where I looked for issues with the translation from Russian to English. Hopefully all the errors I found are corrected and you can get a stronger enjoyment from reading a really fun story. Problems I can't fix though are a lack of a forward that reminds you of what happened in book one through four. The MC keeps growing and we learn a lot more about the world and why things are the way they are. I still give this a 8/10
The MC continues to grow as a leader. Steady and logical growth with little to no plot armor forcing the narrative or miraculous MC leaps in power. Fantastic character development. Personally would like to see some leaps in power growth to go with the character’s development overall. Very natural and captivating progression and story.
