If this author has one thing down pat it's FORESHADOWING. I don't remember the last book I read that had this much foreshadowing that kept me interested for this long. She did a great job sprinkling just enough bread crumbs into the story to keep me interested. We're talking somewhere over 70% and there was still barely anything revealed. It's an art form that very few authors can do right if you ask me.

At first, I was expecting the reveal to be a totally out-of-the-box lore but it ended up being pretty basic but not so basic. If that makes any sense? The author tweaked the concept just enough to be interesting in this new world she created and I loved it.

Kenna was a great character to follow though I disliked how no one would tell her anything. Getting information to her was like pulling teeth in the most unpleasant way possible. I liked that when she set her mind on something she went after it with all she had. She got quite a few answers that way. The whole time I was certain there would be a loophole to her and Lochlan's situation. I'm still waiting to find that one out.

Lochlan was fantastic and the mystery and allure he propagated were on point throughout the novel. I still wish he was more open with Kenna about their situation, what she was, what being together would mean, and so on and so forth.

I'm SO damn glad Book #2 is already out. I wouldn't say this ended on a cliffhanger. It was more of a natural stopping point in the story. However, had this book ended one or two chapters earlier we would be having a completely different and very ranty and angry conversation. I really enjoyed this book! I just hope Kenna gets answers in the next book!

P.S. Aunt Tess can bite me 🙃

Great YA read!

World build is strong and intriguing. Storyline is exciting and full of mystery. Characters are smart sassy and addicting.

A YA can be an exceptional read even for those who like a little spice like myself. They key is having a tremendous storyline and have exceptional character chemistry.

It’s all here folks!

Happy reading,

Has this become one of my new obsessions?

Yes.

It.

Has!

I was craving a good vampire story and that is exactly what Becky Moynihan delivered. From the moment she started sharing snippets, I knew I had to read this. The feeling only intensified when my eyes were blessed upon the reveal of this drop-dead gorgeous cover! Yet despite my excitement for this book, I didn’t expect to be so thoroughly destroyed by it in the best way possible.

Shadow Touched is the first in the A Touch of Vampire series following Kenna, a nearly eighteen-year-old young woman who’s lived most of her life on the move. Her aunt never let them settle down for too long and never explained her reasons behind the constant moving around, causing Kenna to feel adrift and detached from everything and everyone. She has no close friends, no place she truly feels at home…until they move to Rosewood. For some reason, this place feels right, and she wants those friends to stay. She wants to stay. But despite her desire for a normal life, strange things happen that suck Kenna into a world of darkness and mystery in which she might play a bigger role than she realized.

When I say this book destroyed me in the best way possible, I mean it. The description says it’s perfect for fans of Twilight, The Vampire Diaries and Beauty and the Beast and I’ve never felt something so strongly. I felt the glorious vampire romance with every fiber of my body. The romance is wonderful, addicting and so hawt that my ovaries were on fire. (My sister will confirm.) I need, want, desire more—especially after that ending!

Add all that to a wonderful cast of characters and you have one obsessed reader. Kenna is an awesome protagonist with the right balance of smart and spunk. Lochlan is the classic broody character that intrigues you from his first appearance. Isla is witty and super fun to be around with. And Kade. Kade has my heart. Sassy, handsome, the kind of guy I could see myself marrying and call my best friend in sappy Instagram posts. I could read a whole book about him. If I imagine Kade bantering with his love interest and making love to them and being the precious soul he is… *combusts*

I wanted to write a review that sounded professional and polished, but it’s difficult to do when you have so many feelings. I feel so incredibly honored for having read this a little bit earlier than most. This was a truly wonderful read that I encourage readers who enjoy romance to pick up, so that they can die with me.

DNF at 50% (ARC provided by author in exchange for review)

I do want to be respectful to the author and her kindness for providing me with an arc of this book — which I was very much anticipating from seeing it going around bookstagram. All opinion are my own and I’m very sorry if they offend anyone, that is not my intention at all. However, I would like to share my honest opinion.

This book was pretty bad. First, it read like it was for 13/14 year olds but the main character was supposed to be a senior in high school. I felt like the author was really out of touch with how teenagers act, or at least how they act nowadays. I completely understand if an author doesn’t was to use curse words but it just really annoyed me whenever the characters would say “what the freak” or “freaking crap” like they are in middle school...

Another problem that I had was that I felt like I was alternating between reading twilight and the vampire diaries. I know that it says that it is for fans of these books, but I really just felt like I was reading wattpad reimagines.

I WOULD probably recommend this book to a younger YA audience HOWEVER, it says in the description that it’s supposed to be for a YA/NA audience and that it’s steamy (which I can’t speak on because I didn’t make it to any steamy scenes). And for that reason, it gets 1 star. I probably would’ve liked this if I were 13 or 14... but, I honestly don’t think that someone over the age of 16 would enjoy this.

IF you enjoyed READING the vampire diaries and you read it recently, maybe you would like this book.

With all that being said, i just want to reiterate that I don’t mean to offend anyone, i really do wish the best to this author and I hope that I like some of her future books.

Huge shoutout to the author for the chance to read this baby early!!

Shadow Touched is written in first person POV which I don't usually prefer in (especially not in my romance) but Becky does an excellent job of keeping the reader informed but also seeking answers in the same way Kenna Belmont, the main character, does. Kenna leads us through moving to a new town after spending most of her life always going some place new. When she arrives in Maine however she becomes fast friends with Isla, with some natural reservations at first. She also gains the attention of some of the most yummy male characters I have had the privilege of reading in recent months. Naturally they are each a mess but Lochlan and Kade do not disappoint, and I guess you can include Reid if you want to.

The beginning of the book pays serious tribute to Twilight. Almost so much that you think it is just going to be another retelling of the same story. HOWEVER! That is not what actually happened. All of a sudden the story changes and shifts from YA to the steamy delicious side of NA (definitely some great reading to be done here. lol) After this point the story takes on a life of it's own. While still about vampires and werewolves you get a rich and unique storyline that is as enthralling as the characters who led us to this point. While not all of the answers are given, and there are definitely some Easter eggs about further confusion and resolution that I'm excited to see, it was a worthwhile ride of chaos and wtf moments.

I absolutely adored this read. I was at first worried it was going to be more upper YA and less NA. I am so very glad I was wrong. While it is a little slow at first, don't quit! It gets better and then even better in the last like 10% of the book. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to throw the book. Not the least of which was at the end when the cliffhanger left my mouth gaping. How could you Becky! lol

Please definitely give this series a shot. If you want to dive into an old story vibe with new takes and intriguing swoony male characters, this is for you. You will not regret your choice.. well at least not after the next book is written and you don't have to hang on the cliff like the rest of us. lol

Shadow Touched is the first book in the A Touch of Vampire, a new book series by Becky Moynihan.

McKenna Belmont is 17 years old, a few months away from 18 and has moved to a new town, Rosewood and a brand new High School with her Aunt Tess. It is at this High School where Kenna meets new friends and a handful of enemies as well.

Specifically Kenna becomes very friendly with Isla and instantly has beef with Reid and August. They are absolutely sketch and horrible. To add more tension we meet Lochlan D’Angelo and Kade Carmichael.

Very awkward encounters and half truths begin to introduce McKenna to a world she could never even begin to imagine existed.

Shadow Touched gave me absolute Twilight melancholia because I began to feel the instant drawl to the book and characters the same way I felt with Twilight. I’m very critical of Vampire books and how cheesy they can become but the author did such an amazing job. I had all the same feels, but they are completely different stories.

I’ve got to admit all the half truths, the constant disappearances of the character that held all the information, and his lack of making me swoon (lol) were beginning to frustrate me. Kade kept me alert and entertained, though. BUT, somewhere around the 50% mark the book really began to pick up and I was in for a heck of a ride that I couldn’t put the book down until I finished. Those steamy scenes though, I’ll never be able to look at a vampire cape the same ever again.

I loved it and I can’t wait for Shadow Cursed, YES!! We’ve got a title for book 2. That Cliffhanger though, BRUTAL. Shadow Touched is out April 27, 2021. This cover deserves to be showcased in every book shelf, it’s a absolutely gorgeous.

Thank you to the amazing author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received an eArc from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

I could not put this book down! It drew me in from page 1 and I stayed up all night reading it. You need to add this to your TBR pile, immediately! Do it!

The allure and desire sparked intensely and the draw between the two MCs was so real and lifelike. It was as if I was living this tale. The longing that Kenna felt was exciting and the build up was top notch.

Superb writing and character development. It was a unique spin on supernatural entities and their abilities/behaviors. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can not wait for book 2!

Made me tear up😢

Even though the storyline whispered of a popular vampire romance series, that's all it did! The bulk of the story came into its own! It was a fun and emotional ride and even got me to tear up in couple of spots. I'm reading #2 in the series like as soon as I submit this review!

I actually really enjoyed this book. Had no problems finishing it, thought it entertaining and fun. It mostly lost a star because I felt it was lacking some originality. I know its a retelling but seems to also be some sort of Twilight/Vampire Diaries mesh. I am holding out hope for the story to come into its own starting in book 2 though and I do intend to continue the series.

“You might be our ruin or you might save us all. And I’m personally betting on the latter, McKenna Belmont.” - Kade

Since the death of her parents, McKenna Belmont has lived a somewhat nomadic life with her Aunt Tess. Always on the move - supposedly for her ‘safety’ - Kenna has no doubts that her Aunt is keeping secrets from her. Unbeknownst to her Aunt however, McKenna is harbouring a secret of her own. A red eyed man cloaked in shadow has been stalking her at night.

McKenna hopes that their recent arrival in Rosewood, will be her final stop before college. Her hopes for some sense of normalcy are dashed however when strange inexplicable events occur to herself and those around her. To her dismay, Kenna realises that the elusive red eyed Shadow Man has followed her here and he’s not the only one - two mysterious boys have also transferred over to her school and seem intent on her every move.

It soon becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems in Rosewood. The town holds many secrets - secrets which threaten everything McKenna ever thought she believed about herself..

Shadow Touched is the first engaging instalment of the Touch of Vampire series. Told from McKenna’s perspective, the book was my first introduction to the author. From the offset, I found myself totally immersed in the premise of the story about a girl destined to play a crucial role in a prophecy that she has only just begun to comprehend.

While the author briefly touched upon the world building, the emphasis was on the introduction of the characters and what an array of characters they were. Kenna is the gutsy resilient protagonist who readers will find appealing. Isla is the dependable friend that one would want to have their back. Lochlan is the brooding tortured anti hero. My favourite overall character however was Kade, who provided comic relief whenever things threatened to get too dark. The banter between him and Kenna as well as his love of cheesecake had me laughing on more than one occasion.

The plot was well structured and progressed at a good pace. There were lots of twists and turns that initially kept me guessing as to where the plot was going until all became clear in the last three quarters of the book. The whopping cliffhanger has ensured that this reader will be eagerly anticipating the follow up.

Ideal for fans of YA/NA paranormal romance, enemies to lovers, fated mates, vampires, werewolves, siphons, secrets, prophecies, curses, strong heroines, mystery etc

A steamy Paranormal Romance with an intriguing mystery and a fun spin on known supernatural creatures. If you like Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, Shadow Touched will probably appeal to you.

The book follows high school student McKenna Belmont as she moves (once again) to a new town with her Aunt. Since she was a kid, Kenna has been forced to move time and time again without much explanation, which she attributes to her Aunt acting paranoid. I really liked McKenna’s character. She is brave, sarcastic, fiery, kind and curious. Kenna longs for the truth and for a sense of belonging. She doesn’t have friends because she has never stayed any place long enough to form lasting relationships, and she just wants that to change. Kenna clings to the hope that when she turns 18 in a couple months she will be able to live on her own and not follow her aunt whenever the latter decides its time to move. It sounds like a good plan, except the new town they move in is filled with secrets and Kenna is soon thrust into a world of secrets and creatures of the night. And this leads to her slowly becoming friends with two mysterious guys that always seem to be watching her: Lochlan and Kade, the former whom Kenna will develop an attraction towards.

The worldbuilding and magic aspects of the story are really interesting. We have Vampires, Werewolves and Witches and there’s a mystery surrounding them that drives a lot of the plot. Kenna has been seeing a creature she calls Shadow Man ever since she was in her former town, and now Shadow Man has followed her to the new town as well. I can’t say more without spoiling the story, but I really enjoyed the magical aspect of the story.

The other main element in Shadow Touched is the romance. Lochlan and Kenna definitely have chemistry, though sometimes their interactions grate on Kenna’s nerves (probably because Lochlan is so secretive and can sometimes be really bossy). The romance is definitely on the steamier level, but it has it’s sweet moments. Lochlan is not very open with his secrets or his emotions and sometimes he comes across as dangerous, but I guess that’s part of the whole being a vampire thing. My favorite scenes between these two is when Lochlan comforts Kenna, basically telling her that’s it’s okay to cry. Yeah I’m a sucker for the hurt/comfort. That said, I would have liked more bonding scenes between these two. Lochlan did show more vulnerability towards the end, which made me like him more. I can’t wait to see how the relationship between these two will develop on the next book. That said, this book is definitely for an older audience because of the many steamy moments. There are, for example, instances of characters being in heat and this making them crave for touch. So keep in mind that’s a thing in the book, in case it might make you uncomfortable.

Finally I want to talk about the characters and friendships. I found them really enjoyable. Particularly Kenna’s friendship with Isla (a girl she meets in her new school) was one of the highlights for me. It was really nice to see how these two support each other and to see Kenna make friends and learn to trust others after years of basically building walls around herself to not get hurt when she inevitably has to leave with her Aunt to another town.

Shadow Touched ends in a cliffhanger and even though it left me with lots of questions, it also answered many of the ones I had during the first part of the book. The mention of an Academy (I think it’s possibly a witch academy) got me really intrigued as well. I am excited to see where McKenna’s story will head next, and what happened to Loch and Kade.

Disclaimer: I was given a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kenna has been raised by her aunt and moves around a lot. When she moves to Rosewood, Maine, Kenna hopes that this might be a more permanent place to live. All she really wants a place where she fits in, where she can stay a while, and where it feels like home. Kenna enters school and makes a new best fried, and everything seems to fall into place. She even begins to fall for someone. However, secrets that have been kept from her for her entire life begin to surface, and a supernatural world that she’s never known becomes a reality, especially since an ominous presence called Shadow Man seems to stalk her. As she learns the secrets of her past and of Rosewood, she must reevaluate all she knows.’

The description for this book says it will appeal to readers who like Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and Beauty and the Beast retellings, and I think that is a perfect explanation of the novel. This story has everything – romance, secrets, lies, betrayal, BFFs, vampires, witches, and more. It starts off a little slow, but once the pace picks up, it is filled with action and suspense. Twists and turns abound, especially as secrets and lies are revealed.

Mckenna or Kenna is a great protagonist. She is strong, loyal, and brave, and I love her determination. She’s a trustworthy friend and someone who longs to belong. She never stayed in one place for too long when she lived with her aunt, as her aunt had them hopping from place to place with no explanation. Kenna is tired of her aunt’s paranoid ways, and her desire for stability and to put down roots is strong. For some reason, Rosewood feels like home to her. Kenna feels a connection to the town but is unsure why. Throughout the story, she slowly learns how she is connected to the town. She shows such bravery when confronted with danger and a darkness that she never knew existed.

The other characters in the story are well-developed too. Isla, Lachlan, Kade, and others all bring different things to the table. I love Isla and think she is a great best-friend to Kenna. She’s funny and supportive and the type of friend many wish for. Lachlan and Kade are opposites and are great foils to each other. Vampires, witches, and werewolves also have a part to play in this paranormal romance, and I am totally here for it! I’m hoping that we’ll learn more about these characters in future books in the series.

The romance is steamy and everything you’d expect in a vampire romance. Kenna’s connection with her love interest is strong, and their spicy scenes are HOT. Like, get-a-fan-because-you’re-going-to-need-it-when-reading-it-HOT! And that cliffhanger! Oh my word! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

This is a great read for people who like super swoon-worthy, upper YA or NA paranormal romance and/or urban fantasies. Thanks so much to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Do yourself a favor and give this book a chance.

Written in first person POV, Shadow Touched is told by McKenna (Kenna) Belmont who has been raised by her aunt, living a somewhat nomadic life. The book starts with Kenna and her aunt arriving in the small town of Rosewood, Maine. Upon arriving in Rosewood, Kenna feels this town is different from anywhere she’s lived before. She quickly becomes BFFs with Isla, attracts the attention of 3 "swoon-worthy" but problematic dudes – Reid, Lochlan and Kade – and is being stalked by the elusive Shadow Man.

Advertised as an upper YA/NA paranormal romance, I initially didn’t get that vibe. It started out with a YA Twilight feel. During the first half of the book, many questions were set forth with elusive answers like "I can't tell you why" or "We'll talk about this later." To me this gets frustrating in any book; however, since the description of the book already clues you into what the story’s about (vampires, werewolves and witches) most of the puzzle pieces aren’t too difficult to put together.

Just as I was starting to think this was going to be another Twilight story, I hit the 60% mark and BAM! the story shifts, jumping into the upper YA/NA territory (steeeamy). As the story moves into this new territory, we start getting answers and the story veers away being Twiligh-esque and transforms into its own unique plot.

I like this book in its entirety and enjoyed this read. The start is slow but as I said it gets good just over half way through. Then around the 90% mark it starts getting REALLY good. The book ends with a cliffhanger, which I was ready for because the author has mentioned on her FB page that she anticipates this being a trilogy. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next installment!

Okay, it’s official. Shadow Touched is my new favorite book! If Twilight and Beauty and the Beast had a love child, it would be this book, and I freaking love it! I devoured every word, forgoing sleep because who needs sleep, anyway? Not this girl when she’s got a great book in her hands, that’s for sure.

Kenna Belmont has moved around her entire life, never making any real friends, and never forming any real attachments. Then she moves to Rosewood, and everything changes. She’s happy, she finds her best friend, she even starts to maybe fall in love, but under the surface nothing is what is seems. Rosewood holds secrets, and unbeknownst to Kenna, she’s smack dab in the middle of it. But when she unravels them—wow—the twists and turns this book takes, and I’m all for it.

This book has everything: mystery, angst, a bit of spiciness. Betrayal. And good lord do I need more, especially after that ending because ahhh.

If headstrong heroines, broody bad boys, forbidden romances, and intriguing supernatural worlds are your thing, pick up this book. You won’t regret it.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review

Shadow Touch follows almost 18 year old Kenna. The book starts just as her aunt has moved them both to Rosewood. She’s only at her new school a few days before the mysterious Lochlan and Kade turn up. It’s written in first person which I actually really liked. This book got me hooked from the first chapter! I was craving a vampire romance and it really hit the spot. I found this take on vampires really refreshing and I can’t wait to see where this story goes in the next book!
I really liked the way the characters were written and I felt like they grew throughout the book! I wish I had a lochlan 👀👀

That cliffhanger at the end omg! My only wish is that it was longer!

If you liked twilight and the vampire diaries, you’ll love this.

Shadow touched is the first book in the Touch of vampire series by the lovely Becky ❤️

I totally devoured this book. It had me hooked from the very beginning. Shadow touched is from Kenna’s POV who is just an almost 18 year old regular girl unaware of her role in the dangerous world of the supernaturals. I like kenna, she is very loyal and brave and an amazing friend.

Loved all the characters and the twists. Loch was all hot and broody but I liked Kade better. The banter between him and Kenna was really cute and he was a great friend to her. Yin to loch’s yang 😅

This book has everything - vampires, werewolves, witches, lots of steamy romance, secrets and is filled with suspense.
I definitely recommend!!

If you’re a fan of the Twilight saga or just supernatural creatures in general you definitely need to check this out! I loved that it had its own spin on vampires, werewolves, and witches and while it had elements of other stories I’ve read it didn’t feel like I was reading the same thing. I was engrossed the entire time and didn’t want to put it down and the cliff hanger killed me! Can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

This was full of cliches and the MC was extremely annoying and whiny most of the time. But, I absolutely loved it! It was fun and spicy 🌶. This was like a mashup of all my favorite teen supernatural shows but with adult sexy times which makes it so much better.

The beginning was a little slow for me, things aren’t revealed until about halfway through the book but after that I was hooked and stayed up all night reading. I can’t wait for the second book!!

Not like every other fantasy YA book I’ve read before. This book left off with a huge cliffhanger!! It was a slow burn of figuring out who and what McKenna is. By the end of the book you are rooting for Lochlan and McKenna! I am interested to see the second book and will definitely be reading that one right away!!

I LOVED this book so so much!! Kenna, Loch, and Kade have stolen a piece of my heart and have run off with it! There was steam, mystery, and the end left me needing MORE! I can’t wait for book 2. There is so much to come and I am 100% here for it! Can’t freakin’ wait!!

McKenna (Kenna) Belmont has lived a nomadic life with her Aunt Tess, never staying in one place for too long ever since the death of her parents. Supposedly all the moving is for her safety-at least according to her aunt. Even though her aunt claims to be open and honest Kenna is positive that she is keeping secrets from her. Well, two can play at that game. Kenna really is tired of moving and not making any lasting connections, so she is hopeful that the most recent 'new town', Rosewood, will be her final stop before college. Any hopes for normalcy are quickly squashed when strange events continue to occur both to herself and those around her. Sadly, Kenna is anything but normal and the proof is right in front of her in the shape of three "drool-worthy" guys that are as cagey as they are attractive. Soon Kenna learns that not everything is as it seems in Rosewood. The town has its own secrets - secrets that will make Kenna question everything she ever thought she believed...

Shadow Touched is the first book in the Touch of Vampire series. This is the first book I have read by the author Becky Moynihan and I was quite impressed. She did spend a little time on the world-building, though it does take place in a normal human town so it wasn't too hard to imagine. The main focus and emphasis was on the characters and what role they had in the story. Though Kenna does have her moments of frailty, she is very much a gutsy, resilient young woman who does hold her own very well throughout the book. Her best friend, Isla is the dependable one that everyone wants to have their back. Lochlan is the brooding, tortured anti-hero. And then there is Kade, who provided comic relief whenever things threatened to get too dark. He personally was the winner for me and loved him from first reading about him. The banter between him and Kenna was phenomenal, as was his loyalty and bond with Lochlan. This trio promises more fantastic reading in the books to come!

The plot was really well structured, it read really smoothly and I could not detect any plot holes. IT was easy to get lost in and I never was bored whilst reading. There is a cliffhanger at the end (bc it is a series) and it does leave you needing more! I personally can not wait to read book two and I would recommend this book to be sure.

But I no longer feared the shadows. Not when I knew what awaited me inside.

I started using Kindle Unlimited a lot more last year during the pandemic. Plus, I've worked hard as a reviewer to be better at promoting Indie authors. Yes, I've found a lot of duds. A lot. But sometimes I get lucky and find a gem. And Shadow Touched is a gem. There are so many great Paranormal romances out there if you just look for them. Not to knock Twilight or The Vampire Diaries because they have paved a gravel road so we could find books like this one. Shadow Touched has some of the same qualities we loved from those earlier stories. Give me a forbidden complicated messy brooding love story and a small town full of secrets anyday, amirite? What I think Shadow Touched does differently is it's mythology. It's a fresh new take on vampire lore. And the story itself is absolutely addicting. I never wanted it end but I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Not to spoil any of the plot, but you know how we got the CW show, Legacies, from the viewpoint of the Big Bad™ Originals vampire Klaus Michaelson's daughter, Hope? Now imagine The Vampire Diaries Big Bad™, Kai Parker, having a daughter. We get McKenna in Shadow Touched. You're welcome.

Due to that cliffhanger ending, I'm really hoping we also get some Supernatural Academy vibes in book 2. Which I will immediately be preordering. I plan to check out the rest of Becky's bibliography while I impatiently patiently wait for it's release.

I absolutely loved this book! It pulled ,e in so quickly and I love the main characters so much I hold them so close to my heart after reading this book!! I admit I had been in a reading slump for a month and was looking for a book that would get me back into my groove and this book definitely did!! I bought the rest of the series once I finished this book right away. I highly highly recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a good supernatural romance, adventure, and a book with some smut🥰😏
