Thea Cambert has a new cozy series set in Williamsbridge, Vermont. Peril at Pumpkin Hill is a short mystery that is quickly paced with likable characters. I confess that I did guess who was behind the murder before Eloise and Matthew but that's not the usual case for me with Ms. Cambert's books. A lovely afternoon read.
Eloise Murphy and her mother own and operate The Inn on Pumpkin Hill in Williamsbridge, Vermont. The inn is booked solid by a single family for a family reunion. Things start out great, but end with a death at the inn. I enjoyed watching Eloise and her maintenance man/childhood friend run around solving the murder. This sounds like a wonderful beginning to a brand new series!
This is the first book in a promising new series and it's a quick read cozy. The characters are enjoyable and I loved the setting. My only complaint is I wanted a longer story.
I loved the characters in this series, i felt like i was right there doing all the things everyone was doing. Especially all activities in the outdoors in the snow, and the movie night by the fire. Eloise, Matthew and June (Eloise's mother) were great together at the Inn on Pumpkin Hill. When there was an incident at the Inn and there was plenty of suspects, Eloise and Matthew put their heads together and helped the police figure out who, what and why. It started out a good family reunion, then bullying, blackmail, deception, and just selfish meanness set in. All from which one? I am not telling, you have to read this book to find out.
A charming new cozy series feature a reporter who has always wanted to stay in her hometown. She finds herself moving back to her childhood home, to help her mom run her family inn after the death of her father.
The inn is suddenly booked as a family reunion is taking place at the inn as she must battle with the influx of guests and her job at the newspaper.
One of the guests will be murdered as she will team up with her friend to solve the case before the killer strikes again.
A new series that's sure to become a favorite. Well written with interesting characters this book perfectly depicts small town life. The mystery was well plotted with the amateur sleuths doing much of the heavy lifting for the tiny police force.
Eloise is a newly minted partner in the family inn and her first weekend sees her with a full house. Luckily her mom is an old hand at inn keeping but no one anticipates a murder. When her godmother falls under suspicion Eloise and her best friend Matthew are determined to find the real killer.
Eloise's mother June turned their large home into an inn after her father's death. It's Christmas, and the entire place is booked with a group of people who are there for a family reunion. But not everyone is welcome to the town, and there are more than one person who would like to see that person gone.
Fortunately, they are. Unfortunately, they've been murdered in the back of the inn, and now all the family members are suspect. But which one had the greatest motive? After realizing the dead person's room had been ransacked before Eloise could lock it for the police, she has one clue. Then she overhears conversations -- and now she has more. With the help of her childhood friend, Matthew, who now works at the inn, they're determined to get to the truth of the matter. But will they be able to do so before someone else gets killed -- namely, one of them...
This is the first book in the series, and I really wanted to read it because I read Ms. Cambert's other series and enjoy it so much. This one is no less enjoyable than the other. While these are short mysteries, they are fun to read and are written well. The characters are interesting, and the dialogue is crisp.
Watching Eloise and Matthew go about their day while trying to put clues together and figure out a mystery was fun, but hearing the descriptions of the inn and the things around them made this pleasant to read. I myself had a few clues to the murderer, and it was pretty apparent before Eloise discovered it, but it was still entertaining watching the climax and how it played out. I enjoyed this book quite a bit and will continue with the series. Recommended.
I loved the other series this author just finished, and after reading this first in her new series, I know I'm going to love it just as much! The setting is great, and starting with a cozy Christmas in Vermont was just perfect. The usual peace of the B&B was interrupted by the murder of one of the family members of a reunion taking place during the town Wassail Festival.
It was great how Matthew and Eloise were such great sleuthing buddies and even got to use part of their old Spy Game from when they were kids. Who knew that something from a childhood game would come in handy taking down a killer? The showdown was pretty cool, and the ending was just cute. For now, I know Eloise and Matthew are just best friends who grew up together and now work for Eloises's mom at the B&B. But I'd definitely be happy to see them as more than friends as the series goes on. I got the feeling Eloise may have been getting little sparks of that idea toward the end of the book.
Ellie is busy and enjoying her life in Vermont. She writes for the local paper and works with her mother in the family inn. They had briefly closed because of damage to the roof but repairs finish early so she goes out on the website to let people know they have reopened. They get a call for a family reunion that books all seven rooms for the weekend. When the guests arrive things get off to a great start but then one of them is murdered early the next morning. The intrigue deepens with lots of twists and turns and a surprise ending. A fun read.
This was a very enjoyable read. I look forward to the next book to see what's in the future for the Inn Vermont...and for Eloise and Matthew.

I really liked this cozy for a bunch of reasons. First of all, it was well written and edited. A nice pace, clearly told story. Some humor, wonderful setting, some intrigue, some romance. I love stories set at the holidays at any time of the year. A plot that is not too complicated or too many characters. I will be reading more in the series!
This was a really good read. Every time I picked up the book I got lost in the story. What a well written book and I would recommend it to anyone. The plot was well written. And every time I thought I knew who killed Bernadette I was wrong til I was near then then I figure it out. Thanks for putting out a great book.
From the first few sentences, the reader knows she's in a Hallmark movie, albeit one with a murder. No complications, no red herrings, no suspense -- the killer will be found and everyone will live happily ever after.
Great read for a snowy afternoon in front of the fire, but absolutely nothing outstanding about its plot, theme, construction, or delivery.
Definitely a novella and not a novel. I wouldn't have picked it up if I had known it was going to be so short but it was a fun read. Great start to a cozy mystery series. Wonderful setting, interesting characters and well written too.
Wish it had been a novel but if you're looking for a super quick read then give this series a try.
I really enjoyed this book. I like Eloise and Matthew very much. Looking forward to learning more about the history of Vermont and the Inn. I love the Rooftop Garden series by this author as welll😊😊😊
I absolutely loved this new series. I love the dynamic between Eloise and Matthew. I figured out early on who the killer was. I am looking forward to the next book.
I thourghly enjoyed this book. The characters were like old friends. Descriptions of the area makes me want to pack my bags and stay at this inn. I am anxious to get into the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Vermont in. December. Small maple syrup town. An unfortunate incident at the inn. Police investigate. The innkeepers also investigate. And just a dash of romance. Very sweet.
This was a good book but for some reason I couldn't get into the characters. The story was good and the scenery sounded so beautiful. Another problem was I felt the solving of the crime was a bit rushed. I will probably read the next book though.
This story involves a family reunion during the holidays at a small country inn. The family members are not all agreeable with each other and one is murdered. Several suspects and different motives become evident.
This is the first book in a new series, and is a clean, quick read cozy. Eloise and her mother own and operate the Inn on Pumpkin Hill in Williamsbridge, Vermont. The inn is booked solid for a family reunion which starts out good but ends with a murder. I enjoyed watching Eloise and the maintenance man, who is a childhood friend, work to solve the murder. I loved the setting and characters.
Peril at Pumpkin Hill Inn Vermont Cozy Mysteries Book 1
A sweet book to read in the afternoon. The characters warm your heart like a good friend. A touch of friendship, family and romance makes this book a memorable cozy for any cozy mystery fan.
Glad to discover a new clean cozy mystery author! This story is set in Vermont (yay for hard to find states!) and is set in a historic inn. The main sleuth is the innkeeper and her man-of-all-work pal is her sidekick. I really liked the setup for this series and will be reading more.
Great first book in a new series. Loved the Vermont setting. Pumpkin Hill is a place where I would love to visit. I look forward to reading the next book.
A dead body turns up during a family reunion at a Vermont inn. This is the first book in a new series. The characters are likable and the story held my interest.
