As Delta and Gary prepare to walk down the aisle just days away from what could be Divine’s wedding of the decade, Jo offers to help Delta spruce up Gary’s old farmhouse.
While there, Jo’s hound dog runs off. She and Delta track him down where they make a shocking discovery that threatens to rip the couple apart.
The discovery sets off a chain of events that cast suspicion on the groom-to-be. Is it possible that Gary isn’t the man he claims to be?
Determined to get to the bottom of the deadly mystery, Jo scours the county searching for clues and speaking with suspects, but not everyone is willing to talk.
It's a race against time with the wedding only days away. Can Jo, along with some help from friends, get to the bottom of the deadly mystery, or will Gary spend the rest of his days behind bars?
Divine Wedding is the seventh book in Hope Callaghan’s heartwarming Divine Cozy Mystery Series. The books in this series are full of inspiration, hope, and second chances. This well-plotted mystery is a clean read, with likable characters, an intriguing mystery, lots of twists and red herrings, and humorous situations. I recommend this book/series to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Joanna “Jo” Pepperdine opened Second Chances, a haven for women who have recently been released from Central State Women’s Penitentiary in Divine, Kansas. The women are down on their luck, with nowhere to go, and Jo provides them with a second chance in life. Delta Childress, a talented cook and second in command, shares her cooking and baking knowledge with the residents. Nash Greyson is a skilled handyman who keeps Second Chances in good repair and teaches the women how to build and repair things. Gary Stein, Jo’s gardener, tends two gardens and instructs the women on successful gardening.
As Delta ad Gary’s wedding day approaches, Jo helps Delta with the final preparations, including planning a shopping trip to help the frustrated bride-to-be find an appropriate wedding dress. As if planning a wedding isn’t enough, Delta, with Jo’s help, is trying to give Gary’s farmhouse a long-overdue facelift as well. While Jo and Delta are at Gary’s farm, Jo’s hound dog, Duke, makes a gruesome discovery, and Gary becomes a suspect in a murder. While trying to clear Gary’s name, superstorms threaten Divine.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Are people protected by guardian angels? Now or in Divine, Kansas. Part mystical, part suspense, and romance. Divine Courage is set in the town of Divine, Kansas - the Midpoint of the continuous 48 states. Hope Callaghan's writing style hooks me every time: delightful descriptions of the setting, the characters, the stores and town. As a cozy mystery, the story is not preachy. As a reader, I always enjoy how Hope Callaghan summarizes what happened previously, and then throws the reader a new idea or red herring. This helps the reader the remember what has happened in the previous mysteries and makes the reader speculate who dun it. In a non-judgemental way many contemporary issues (crime, half way houses, small town prejudices and black mail) are addressed. Believable characters, twist and turn plot and a satisfying resolution.
When Gary and Delta start planning their wedding they have no idea what they will have to face. Will they get to walk down the aisle, or will Gary be sent to prison for a murder he did not commit. Jo, Delta, Nash and the rest of the Divine gang work hard to find out who did it so Gary and Delta can marry with nothing against them. As if that were not enough, the weather takes a turn and super cells bring tornados down on them. To find out how the residents of Divine and Jo's farm fare please read the book. I enjoy Hope Callaghan as books and think you will too.
Hope Callaghan again gives us another Intriguing cozy filled with plenty of suspense, twists and turns. I loved the storyline and the wonderful characters.
Again we have another blockbuster by Hope Callaghan! She doesn't leave us hanging, On any of her series, I for one want to thank her so much from the bottom of my reading heart that no matter how quickly she puts another book out there they are even BETTER or MORE EXCITING than the last book!! The amazing part also with so many characters, each one is more interesting with with each book. NOW TO THE STORY- As I have been waiting for Gary & Delta's wedding day to come, I wondered whether Delta who is so intense and makes her way known whether she would turn into a bridezilla over her own wedding. Well your going to have to read it and find out! Lol Each of the girls that Jo takes into her home& give a second chance to has their own set of issues & although we catch up with each one during the story, one or two always plays bigger part in each book. In Divine Wedding right off Jo & Delta go over to Gary's house, where Delta is making more than a few changes inside the house to update it& make it her own. While there, Jo's hound dog takes off after some unruly chickens from next door and will not come back when called. So of course Jo& Delta give chase and find something chilling & scarey behind the barn and the story takes off. Between this mystery find at Gary's homestead that pulls Delta away from her kitchen duties to Laverne, one of Jo's more boisterous girls at the farm who has her eye on Delta's kitchen to her two-cents worth in EVERY situation. Almost every girl at the farm in one way or another to even Sherry who has moved out of the farm& lives in the town of Divine has something from their past come into haunt them. Even Jo's brother who is soon to open an Exclusive Theater in downtown Divine comes into question. There is tornados all over the area will everyone survive? Will Delta & Gary's wedding with challenge after challenge find themselves really tying the knot??? As always Hope has managed to give us a real thrilling mystery to enjoy to the fullest page after page. Don't miss out, ya hear?
All 9 of the books in this series were fantastic. If you are looking to read mysteries and amateur sleuthing, this series is for you. Also, the main character of the book (Jo Pepperdine), as well as the residents on her farm all depends on God to help them through their troubles. There is praying at the dinner table and turning to the lord for advice. There are also 2 angels mentioned in each book which gives me the good kind of child every time they appear. These giant men are Divine’s angels and they protect Jo’s land and the good people on it. Ain’t God awesome to send His angels?! Yes, he cares for us that much. I realize this series is not non-fiction, but I do believe in angels and I do believe God cares for us even when we don’t care for ourselves.
This series is different than any of the other mysteries and sleuth books I’ve read in the past in that not every book has a murder in it. Sometimes there is just a mystery and troubled times that fall upon Jo that she has to dig into to get answers. And each book (except the 9th) contains at least 300 pages which to me is really cool because I definitely didn’t want this series to end! What else is different about this series is that Jo owns a farm and houses women who have been recently released from the local prison. Jo is helping the ladies recover from being criminals to being people who can survive in society. She has a halfway house. So, this has definitely been different, because of course Jo has her challenges with the ex-criminals and with helping them get out into the world on their own.
If you want some positive reads, some Jesus and hope, some angels, some family and friendship, and some plain old goodness and the good guy winning in the end - you need to read this series! 5 stars!
Oh! I forgot! There is also romance added in here, too.
Can Hope Callaghan write a disappointing book? Absolutely NOT!
At least not yet! Ms Callaghan has knocked another one out of the park with this book. I love the care she puts into each character fleshing out each person making them come to life. I love the way she has even so called "minor" characters have a life of their own and building up to the climax to a well thought out ending that is surprising but well rounded. If you haven't read any of her books before, you can read this and be thoroughly entertained without getting lost like you can in some series though I am pretty sure you'll be hooked and want to go back to the first book in this series Devine Intervention, (Devine Mystery Series Book 1.) You could pick up any of her books and become an instant fan! Enjoy!
I really just love the wholesome goodness of this series, while at the same time it tackles some serious issues. A body is discovered buried in a well and soon questions and suspicions start swirling around as to who it may be and who is responsible for the death! Its great to see the characters continue to develop and evolve, new and surprising connections and relationships are formed, and hurdles of different varieties are overcome. I received this book as an arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
Great mix of mystery and pre-wedding plans! But this time even I got chills when Jo saw heavenly visitors. Recommend highly to fans of Cozy Mysteries but particularly those of Hope's books. This is another favorite series of mine. Not same old stuff you get with some other writers in this genre. If you haven't tried the Divine Series yet, do so immediately and save this one for a spring/summer read. You won't be disappointed! Wrote down the recipes just now. Thanks again, Hope!
Wedding plans are in full swing! Cold feet are soon replaced by warm hearts and all seems right with the world...until a decomposed body is found on Gary's property and all fingers point to the soon to be groom as the murderer. Can Jo and her team figure out what happened before Delta's fiance goes to jail????
This newest edition to the Devine series is a page turner that you do not want to miss. If you live a good clean story filled with adventure...this book is for you!
The wedding date approaches, Jo and Delta go to Gary's farm to look at swatches. Before they leave they look at the garden, Duke takes off and finds a skelton hand next to the pump, they call the police. The police suspect Gary killed the person. This disrupts the wedding plans. The wedding is still on. All of the girls veto Delta's choice for a wedding dress. Then they have to worry about the super cell storm coming. They have a lot to figure out if Delta and Gary are still going to be married. Good read and characters.
Love an exciting story. I have spent time in a cellar in KS during tornado season, too. Her location is near where I actually lived. The facts are correct about homes & farms in KS. The ritzy subdivision she described could be in my former home town although the roads were in better shape. It was in town, though. We had a bar where could eat & shoot pool. We had a coffee bar added the last time I was there. Our banks were in walking distance & it is extremely hot on July 4!
With Delta and Gary’s wedding only days away, skeletal remains are found on Gary’s property. Concerned that the authorities suspect Gary of foul play, Jo and her pals dig deep to find the truth. This is the first book I have read in this series and it read well as a stand-alone. As expected of this author, the plot is complex, the characters well developed and the storytelling skilled. It was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to future books in the series.
The little town of Divine, Kansas may not be on your map but I was born and raised in Kansas so I just drew a dot and named it Divine. This series offers the comfort of well-worn jeans and challenges to your social conscience. The atmosphere is just so close to reality of sitting in the basement while funnel clouds terrorized the plains. Hope has hit the big leagues if you hadn't noticed! Thank you for more Divine inspiration.
Hope Callaghan writes beautiful Christian mysteries filled with hope and love. Her Divine Mystery series is set in Divine, Kansas, on a farm that offers second chances to women who are former convicts. The mystery is intriguing and the relationships in the series grow as the series continues. This is book 7 in the series and there is going to be a wedding ... Or is there?
This is the seventh book in the Divine series. I was not disappointed. It’s great seeing how the former convicts are growing and adjusting. There is much excitement in Divine Weddings and also quite a few moments of angst. I do think it would be best to start this cozy mystery series from Book 1, in order to get the best and deepest meaning from the story. If you like Christian cozy mysteries, I highly recommend the Divine series.
This was by far my favorite book of the series other than book 1. I’m a huge Hope C. fan though, and I haven’t enjoyed this series as much as her others. This one put me back in cheering for all her characters all over again in all her series. I love those kind of authors. She does write cozy/clean mystery if that makes a difference in what you read . I read everything so it definitely didn’t for me. Please keep writing , Hope!
Another awesome clean mystery by this excellent author. Delta and Gary and getting ready to get married. Gary stumbles across a dead body on his property and is looking like the guilty party. Can Jo and gang figure out who the real Murderer is and save the wedding ?
Wow! This is one of my favorite Series.I am so glad there will be a #8..Hopefully we will learn more about Miles and hope he is there for a good reason. Also hopefully Jo has her own Happy Ever After. Can hardly wait for the next Book..I have read many of this Authors Series and love them all..Please keep writing as your Books are a Joy and gift from God!
Devine help, wedding woes & a body equals a Devine mystery
This story has it all! Delta’s wedding plans are interrupted when a body turns up at Gary’s place. But investigations are slowed down by a dangerous storm. Are the winds going to blow in big changes in the center of the country? Jo and the girls will have to work hard to figure this out in time.
It's always adventure with jo and delta. I always like to hear about the angel 's appearing. The scriptures are so enlightening and can never get enough of this books. A breath of fresh air.
Looks like the wedding might be called off due to a body found on Gary’s farm! Jo, Delta, and Raylene work hard to prove Gary’s innocence. There is never a dull moment on Jo’s farm.
I absolutely love these books. Hope is the type of author that draws the reader into the book. She makes you feel the characters emotions. I can't wait to read the next book. These books are well worth five stars.
Another great story! The plot had just enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I love all the characters, both old and new. I can't wait to read the next book!
I really enjoy many of Hope’s series, but I think Divine is my favorite. I’m so grateful for these books, that they’re Christian, and they have so many great characters.
