Grieving over the terminal diagnosis for his sister, Navy SEAL Brock Hardy tries to bury his pain in the arms of the only woman he's ever loved, Monica Ingram. It's a mistake; the last thing he wants to do is bring his damaged, personal baggage into Monica's life and hurt her. Things get even more complicated when he returns home and a caseworker with a baby shows up at his late sister's door the same time as Monica. Turns out Brock's sister was a foster parent, and with a blizzard brewing, the caseworker has nowhere else to leave the baby. Brock has the house, still set up for childcare, and Monica has experience caring for infants, so they team up...just for now. Meanwhile, Monica has her own surprise for him - she's pregnant. As Brock and Monica set up house during the storm, an unexpected broken window and snowy footprints outside puts them on edge. Is someone trying to harm the baby?
Monica only wanted to let Brock know she was pregnant, but after volunteering to help the desperate caseworker, she's now staying in his house, caring for an adorable baby, and feeling things for the sexy SEAL she'd rather not. It's hard to resist a man as gorgeous and nice as Brock, even if he tries to hide his softer side. Their attraction smolders beneath everything they do, and it doesn't take much for that spark to turn into a flame. When it's clear their lives are in danger, Monica's never been so happy to have a tough Navy SEAL by her side. But after the storm is over and the danger is gone, will Brock be gone too, running away from commitment like he's always done before? Or will he finally realize love is the best baggage of all?
It isn’t a big surprise Katie Knight ended up writing romances about the stellar, studdly men of the Navy SEALs; after all, she was a K-9 trainer for the SEALs and met her own Navy SEAL hero husband while preparing one of their K-9 partners for combat. A few years after their marriage, her and hubby decided to retire with their K-9 partner, Sam, to raise their children in the Midwest. It wasn’t long after that before Katie decided to write her own stories featuring the men of the SEAL teams and the women who love them.
When not imagining dangerously romantic scenarios for her heroes and their feisty heroines, Katie enjoys hikes with her husband and Sam, spending time with her children, and long runs (on and off the beach).
I really liked the mystery encircled with baby Aaron, the book was overall good, but I just felt like it was lacking something. Not that it was bad or anything. Just felt like it didn’t keep me 100% engaged the whole time and I felt myself skimming a lot. Also, if someone was coming after the baby, I have no idea why they would leave the baby alone while taking the dog out, and if the cops were able to get there so easily, then why didn’t they leave and go to a hotel?
Confused on the age of the baby, she was 6 months old, then 2 months old?
“He was working in the bedroom while Monica nursed their six-month-old baby girl, Malia,”
“It had been a bit over two months since Malia had arrived on planet Earth,”
The blizzard outside is not the only one brewing for this Navy SEAL
I soooo LOVED Protecting His Pregnant Ex. This story about the sexy Alpha Brock Hardy and the sweet and lovely Monica Ingram. They were once high school sweethearts but then he left to join the Navy, eventually becoming a SEAL, while Monica stayed int heir hometown. It is now ten years later and Brock has returned because his sister is dying from cancer. What he was not expecting was to suddenly find out that he is now the sole carer for a baby, as his sister was a foster parent. When Monica also shows up things are about to get even more complicated in his life. And that is even before he discovers that someone is after the baby. Brock soon finds he will have to use all his SEAL skills to keep both Monica and the baby safe and along the way discovers just what is important in his life and for his future.
This story is filled with action, suspense, romance, family, emotions and of course enough sizzling heat to melt all the snow in the blizzard that surrounds Brock and Monica. This is a well written book with a solid story-line and wonderful characters. Protecting His Pregnant Ex is another winner by Katie Knight.
This was sweet and heartbreaking with Brock losing his sister and now has a baby to care for. The chemistry he shared with Monica was explosive and I love how she steps in to help. The suspense and mystery surrounding the danger they're in only added to their tension and edge. I practically devoured it.
Protecting His Pregnant Ex by Katie Knight is a simple, predictable SEAL romance. Brock Hardy is on leave for his sister's funeral and to settle her estate. He had been home a couple of months ago when she had been diagnosed with the fast-moving cancer and had seen his high school girl friend, Monica, and hooked up. Now she was at his front door, on the heels of a CPS worker with a baby who needed a foster home for a few days. She was looking for his sister. She hadn't heard. Monica volunteered to take the baby but all the stuff she would need was here, in Melissa's house and there was a blizzard coming, well it really was starting right now. So Monica and baby Aaron decided to stay there with Brock. Monica just needed to go home to get her dog and stop at the store for some supplies for. Brock didn't like it, but her let her go. Now he was here, alone, with Aaron, and worrying for Monica. As was inevitable, being locked together in the cold and dark, they hooked up again. But more importantly, someone was hiding outside, ready to attack. After several small attacks, they got in and off they went with Aaron.
This was a predictable but satisfying romance; Knight's forte. Brock was all man silent and brooding, and good-looking and sexy. Monica had a secret. She wasn't sure of she could share it. They had been best friends in high school but that was a long time ago. She also wasn't sure if she could put up with how bossy he was. Protective was one thing, but this...? Neither of them had had good childhoods but at least he had had Melissa. She had only had him. He was a SEAL now. It was his life. He was not ready to let go. It was a fun romance with a few tense moments with the bad guys, but all's well that ends well. Take a break. Read this simple book and enjoy it.

✳️✳️ONE TANTALIZING THRILL RIDE✳️✳️ Blazing blizzards boo! Katie whips out one incredibly tumultuous, delightfully delicious, tilt-my-world churning tempest, delivering up some harsh facts, heartbreaking loss and unexpected events, knocking down walls and bringing the heat, propelling this jewel to new heights. A multitude of unpredictable mishaps and stunning fiasco's descend in a flurry of chilling instances and eerie disturbances ensue, while sketchy lines and crushed perimeters solidify as limitations are amplified and tested, futures are forged and promises pledged, wrapping this gem up sleek, shiny and tight. Attributes and ingenuity in every thread you unravel with each page, your drawn into this tangled web so securely and precise, booting this jewel into the eye of a frenzy, bursting it into a tailspin with astonishing impacts, launching this bad boy to life seamlessly. The characters, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Fantastic job Katie, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
Monica and Brock both had difficult childhoods, but they found love and support in each other first as friends, then as high school sweethearts. Brock left after graduation to join the Navy, leaving Monica behind. Ten years later, he is back in town after the sudden death of his only family member, his older sister who died from ovarian cancer.
Brock and Monica stepped up to be emergency foster parents to baby Aaron, and are snowed in during a harsh winter storm in his sister’s home. It was fun seeing Brock become more comfortable with baby Aaron and how that affected Monica as she struggled with telling Brock she was pregnant with his baby after their one night stand two months prior.
These two characters had a difficult path towards a happily ever after due to their different ways of dealing with emotions and misinterpretation of what the other person was saying or intending. Both seemed to be on edge towards the other and their forced togetherness of not exacerbated this for a good portion of the story.
The dramatic storyline seemed a little crazy given the author’s description of the weather. The suspenseful element added to my enjoyment of the book because it helped keep the story moving forward and lessened the emotional angst between Brock and Monica since they focused on protecting the baby.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Brock and Monica’s journey toward a happily ever after was not an easy one. Both had difficult childhoods, devoid of parental guidance and affection. Trust was something they both found elusive when it came to others, but they trusted and supported each other as teenagers up until he left her behind to join the Navy. Ten years later, he was back in town to bury his recently deceased sister and to take care of her estate. A huge snow storm, emergency custody of an orphaned baby and the appearance of Monica on his doorstep were most unexpected and shocking to the usually stoic, tight-lipped and controlled Brock. The revelation of her pregnancy as a result of their passionate encounter two months before almost turned him in to full shutdown mode, but he urgently needed to care for an infant that some unknown pursuer was determined to take by force. Brock went into full protector, Navy SEAL mode to keep Monica and the baby safe. Along the way he managed to convey his misgivings about parenthood and pushed Monica away. You will have to read this well-written, fast-paced story to find out how they achieved their happily ever after.

I’ve read many stories by these authors. I find there are easy reads, sometimes a bit predictable. The final copy still needed editing and perhaps a beta reader would have helped. This story is about Monica and Brock together. Brock's sister has just passed and he was home 2 months prior when he found out his sister had cancer. Upset and devastated he sought comfort from his high school sweetheart, Monica. Their one-night stand resulted in a pregnancy. Brock soon finds himself in a situation with a winter storm on the horizon, and a beautiful foster child that needs a home, or at the very least, an emergency placement. On top of that there are bad guys possibly wanting to harm the baby, so Brock is going to have to get his head straight and decide if he’s all in or all out. I found a few edit mistakes but one thing bugged me, she was 2 months pregnant at the time, the story jumps ahead 10 months and then she supposedly sits nursing their 6 month old daughter! 10 months later the baby would be 1 month old not 6! It’s silly mistakes like that that really annoy me. Using whelp instead of well. The story was disjointed and didn’t flow well. It jumped from a to b to c, but it felt clunky and disjointed. I voluntarily received an arc copy of the book from HiddenGems .
Brock Hardy was home in Bristow, Minnesota on leave as a navy SEAL for his sister, Melissa's funeral and settle her estate. They were expecting a server snow storm that was expected to snow them in for several days within the few hours, and he needed to head out to the grocery store, when a strange woman showed up at his door with a baby wanting to see his sister. She was from Protective Services and needed someone to take the baby. About that time his ex-girlfriend, Monica Ingram drove up wanting to talk to Brock. Monica knew the Service Worker and agreed to keep the baby, but she would need to stay with Brock to be able to use the baby equipment/supplies that Melissa had on hand. Little did they know that the baby's parents had been killed in an accident as a result of cartel connections. It did not take long for strange things to start happening. During all the excitement Monica had to tell Brock that she was pregnant with his baby. As if Brock did not have enough to think about all ready. Where would it all end? This was a real page turner with lots of mystery and intrigue including emotional turmoil between Brock and Monica.

I have read several books by this author, both through the ARC programs and others I have received on my own. This is a voluntary review for the ARC I received. Although this started as a typical second chance romance, the story took off once the blizzard hit and keep me on the edge of my seat. Brock and Monica are a good couple and work together to survive this storm and keep this baby safe. Brock is home due to the death of his sister from ovarian cancer. While trying to put her affairs in order and selling her home, he is approached by a social worker. Unaware of the death, she asks Brock to do a last-minute foster of a baby in need. At the same time, his high school girlfriend, Monica has arrived to share some baby news of her own. They agree to work together to care for this baby and hunker down for the large storm approaching. The storm and the baby bring them together to overcome lots of challenges. There is a lot of action and mystery to keep the pages turning. Better than I thought it would be an plenty of surprises as the story plays out!!
This book brings us Brock and Monica. They were high school sweethearts, until Brock left to join the service. He is now part of a SEAL team. Monica grew up in foster care but has risen above all of that. She works at the local supermarket and volunteers at the NICU at the hospital rocking pre-term babies. Brock comes back to town to bury his sister and get her estate settled. Monica comes to his sister's home and has some news for Brock, but before she can tell him, a social worker has a baby that needs to be looked after (his sister did that, and the social worker doesn't know that the sister died). Monica agrees to look after the child, little Aaron until other family members can come and pick him up. Brock is a very closed off person and doesn't share his feelings. When he finds out Monica's news, he gets even more closed off. Monica was very open about her feelings, and is hurt when Brock doesn't respond. The ending was great. I do recommend this book. I did receive an arc for an honest review.
This is an exciting and fast-paced story with plenty of action and suspense. Brock is a Navy SEAL home on leave to take care of things after his sister died. Monica, who had once been his high school sweetheart, shows up at his doorstep, pregnant as a result of their one-night stand 2 months ago. He had been home visiting his sister who was dying of cancer and had turned to Monica for comfort. Soon, Brock will find himself going into full protective mode as he is left with an orphaned baby that needs a home and there are people out there possibly wanting to harm the baby. The storyline was exciting and caught my attention from the start and held it all the way through. Monica and Brock have a lot to work through before they can reach their happy ending, and the author pulls it all together nicely. This is a very well-written story with plenty of emotion, drama, and suspense that will keep you turning the pages. A very enjoyable and entertaining story for sure!

I am leaving an honest review after receiving this book as an ARC. Our tough SEAL has no idea how to deal with emotions...or babies. Now he is trying to work through his sister's belongings instead of his grief in losing her. But before he has much time for that, an orphan is dropped off with him because his sister was an emergency foster parent. He refuses at first, having never been around babies but then his High School sweetheart shows up and his willing to watch the baby but has no space or items. So he finds himself with his Ex, a baby, and a blizzard raging outside. And then trouble shows up and they don't know why. So now he is learning to care for a baby, deciding what he wants for his future, and how his Ex and their new baby he now knows about fits in to it while keeping them all safe and warm. Over all, I loved this book and its characters but there were some definite mistakes. However, I believe I received this before the official published released so I hope that has all been fixed before it has now been published.
I know what to expect from a Katie Knight book. Still, the book felt rushed and it couldn't hold my attention for more than a few chapters at a time. I didn't get Brock and Monica's relationship which is the whole point of a romance book. I don't know if my sleepy brain missed something in the beginning and that's the reason for me not connecting or if it would have happened anyways. I will go with the later because some things just didn't make sense or worked organically. First of all baby Aaron's parents were into some shady stuff and the lady in charge didn't think of mentioning it? And when they knew the baby was in danger why did a Navy Seal think it was a good idea to just leave it alone? As for the blizzard/storm/w.e people seemed to be able to come and go as they pleased so why did the main characters stayed at a house that had problems and was getting heated by a backup generator? And finally, the thing that bothered me the most was the feeling that Brocked settled and was forced into the family he and Monica made
I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review
It was okay. There was no real depth to the story - it was very predictable so my interest kept weaning.
Brock and his ex-girlfriend, his, high school sweetheart, Monica, had a one night stand when he was visiting his dying sister. He returns for his sister's funeral. His sister had been a foster mother and there is a baby that needs fostering. Monica shows up to Brock's house as he was turning the social worker away. Monica volunteers to foster the baby but she has to use the stuff at Brock's house. As Brock and Monica settle in with the baby a powerful blizzard hits and they are snowed in. Brock and Monica start to notice people outside Brock's house. They have to unravel the mystery if why there people are trying to get the baby Monica is fostering as well as the future of their relationship. Brock never thought he would get married or have children but his situation with Monica has rocked his world.
Aligning the head with the heart Protecting His Pregnant Ex by Katie Knight is a well written military romance. Navy SEAL Brock has convinced himself he’s destined to live a lonely life without love. All this negative thought despite still being in love with his Ex, Monica. Monica’s head and heart are in agreement of what could be if only Brock could see it and allow himself to be happy. The plot of this book is very engaging and suspenseful. Adorable little Aaron in his dangerous circumstances shares the focus with Brock & Monica’s reconnection. There’s plenty of action that calls upon Brock’s skills and this couple’s chemistry is downright steamy. Overall, this romance is both engaging and entertaining with wonderful characters, even hard headed Brock who finally gets his head aligned with his heart and his love for Monica. A promising future in this new family’s HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily sharing my review.
Brock Hardy , a Navy SEAL on bereavement leave, is trying to cope with the death of his sister. The woman that took care of him as a kid. But fate and a storm brings them together when a foster baby is put in their care and Monica , whom he last saw two months ago, has news for him. News that leaves him in shock but determined to help her as best as he can. As they deal with the baby and the storm, another storm and danger is brewing around them. One that seems to want to grow by the minute. Will the three of them survive the danger? Will these two individuals whose childhood has left them scarred and afraid to love be able to realize that happiness is within reach. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Booksprout. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Home to settle his deceased sister’s estate, Navy SEAL Brock Hardy is talking to a caseworker who brought a recently-orphaned baby Aaron, whom his sister was to have fostered for a short time until the relatives would arrive. Brock’s recent one-night stand, Monica Ingram, also arrived at that time and offered to help with the baby before a storm arrives. They decided to stay at Brock’s sister’s home since she had already set it up for caring for the baby. Monica’s initial arrival was to tell Brock she was pregnant from their one-night stand together a few months earlier. So she is still trying to find the perfect time to let him know.
They started to see signs of someone sneaking around outside. Brock is prepared to keep them safe. But Monica isn’t sure that Brock will stick around after this crisis is over. Will he want to stay with her and find their HEA? Or will he go back to the military and out of her life when everything settles down?
Sometimes doing the right thing brings surprising results. When Monica realized she was pregnant after a passionate one-night where she and her boyfriend from high school were consoling each other over his sister's terminal diagnosis she realizes she must let Brock know. Unfortunately, that announcement is put on hold after the two assume the temporary care of a child who's parents were killed. Matters become complicated very quickly as the three are forced to hunker down and wait out a severe but find some strange things and sightings of men bring out the Protective SEAL in Brock. Will the knowledge of his impending fatherhood change his plans for what his future might be? Is someone after the child they are caring for? Will there be an HEA and is so, does that mean they find it together? Nice feel good story with some danger, twists and turns and some romantic scenes that will keep you entertained.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
Brock is grieving over the loss of his sister when he discovers that she was to be a foster mom to a baby. On the same night Monica arrives to talk to him and hears about the baby needing placement and offers to help out so they end up staying with Brock. Then Brock finds out another surprise his night with Monica had gotten her pregnant and that's why she was there to talk to him. As they are taking care of baby Aaron things start happening and it looking like someone is out to harm the baby. Will they be able to keep the baby safe until he is safe with his relatives? Can Monica and Brock have something serious come from heir night together?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Two people caught in a blizzard and a baby to take care of.
Brock and Monica were high school sweethearts but they didn't have a second coming. Brock decides to join the army and is now, 10 years later, back for his sister's funeral. Not long ago he was home when his sister was diagnosed with cancer and had a one night stand with Monica. When Monica arrives to tell him that their night together was not without consequences, he has just received the care of 6-month-old baby Aaron to nurse until his family can come and get him. During the blizzard, he tries to protect them from 2 men who hang around the house. What do they want from them and can Brock protect Monica, their unborn baby or Aaron from something bad happening? The navy SEAL in him does everything it can to prevent that.
A sweet novel where old feelings deepen and grow into true love

As he is talking to her Monica his ex-girlfriend from high school pulls up and he finds himself sharing his sister's house with her and the baby as a storm closes in. An entertaining and action packed SEAL second chance romance.

Brock was home to deal with the property that his sister had after she passed from cancer. Monica, an ex girlfriend from high school stopped by the same time as a lady was dropping off an infant to his sister, not knowing she was gone. Brock and Monica decided to help out for a few days until the childs family from Europe could get there. Monica and Brock had a lot to talk about and deal with but did not go about it very well. This storyline has bad guys connected to the baby, fellow SEALs and retired friends of Brock, as well as a baby in their future. Romance is a roller coaster ride with more downs than ups. Even though the two did not have family, their friends sure supported them and gave them great advice. Very well done.

Brock has come home to sort out his sister, Melissa's house, she's died from cancer. While he's there a woman arrives with a small baby, his sister was a foster parent. At the same time Monica, his ex from school, arrives, she has something to tell him. Brock doesn't want to keep the baby boy but the social services woman has nobody else to leave him with and the weather is deteriorating into a storm. Monica says she will look after Aaron, she'd take him to her flat but there is more space at Melissa's house, Brock agrees, she leaves Aaron to go shopping and to collect her dog. Then odd things start to happen. A great romantic suspense from Katie. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Monica needs to tell Brock, that their night together has left her pregnant, but ends up volunteering to help him look after a child in need of a temporary place to stay. Will the enforced closeness help them work things out? There is a bad snow storm on it's way, will that be the only danger they face? Brock has recently lost his sister, how will he handle been stuck with all these extra people? I enjoyed this second chance romance, Brock prefers to hold in things (and sometimes I found this a bit frustrating), but both Brock and Monica were easy to like, and their story certainly has lots of danger/action in it.

Not a typical story for this writing team Brock has returned home to sort out his sister Melissa’s house after she died from cancer. A caseworker shows up with baby Aaron whose parents were killed.at the same time as Monica does. Since his sister’s house is already set up for the baby and Monica has experience she is left with them especially since a blizzard is on the way. Monica and Brock had been lovers, and although he still feels the same, he doesn’t want to do anything to affect her. She puts her intention to tell him that she’s pregnant on hold when it appears that someone is out to harm the baby. Although a relatively quick read it is still really really good! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and purchased a copy for my collection.
This is a wonderful second chance love story with plenty of suspense, drama, and a few surprises. Brock is a Navy seal who is on bereavement leave to deal with the death of his sister. Monica is his best friend from childhood and his ex girlfriend. She has some news to share with him but a surprise is delivered when she arrives. She volunteers to help out with the delivery. Monica tells him what is going on with her. Brock is stunned but he will be there for her in any way he can. Someone is stalking the house and is after something or someone. Will Brock figure out that his place is with Monica before it is to late?
