Hellish #13

Eventide

Rate this book
All Nix wants is to stay alive. Even wants to keep him that way too… if he can.
As possibly the last phoenix left in existence, Nix has been beyond lonely for years. Even though King Jonathan has always ensured he feels included, Nix doesn’t fit in. He doesn’t know how to connect. Unfortunately, since someone or something seems to want him dead, he has to depend on the Hellish clan to keep him safe no matter how out of place he feels. Luckily, they have a plan.

Eventide has existed since the beginning of time. He’s watched countless creatures fade in and out of existence. That’s how life goes. Everything has a season. He doesn’t get involved in the troubles of man or beast. Nix is the only exception. Nix forces light into Even’s eternal darkness. Even doesn’t hesitate to offer his help in keeping Nix safe from an invisible foe. After all, he’s the only being in existence with the power and time to shield Nix from any enemy. But who will keep Nix safe when he’s with Even?

The Hellish Clan is back with a new mystery to solve. This time, the answer might be closer than they think.

Overall I enjoy the Hellish clan stories. The book Ravage is one of my favorites and I have read it many times. However, this book (and the last few) really didn’t live up to expectations. There really is no plot to speak of. There is the introduction, mostly through conversation rather than story, of a problem. The the MCs meet. The the MC are immediately together and in love. The conflict disappears as the paper thin plot device that it was, and the book is over. Romance is well and good but I desperately wish we could get a story to fill it out. Hard to care about the characters at all when so little time is spent on them.

Starry-eyed

“The stars he had wished upon and dreamed to hold were now his... he would forever be the flame in the darkness.” I hope this series never ends. With each new character and with every time we return, I become more enmeshed and enthralled with this world. Even and Nix made me starry-eyed and they set my heart on fire. What I didn’t expect was the surprise but I should know better as life is never what it seems in this fantastic world.

Nix and Even find their HEA along with an unbelievably sweet mystery

This was adorable. From the HEA between Nix and Even to the answer to the mystery this was lovely. There’s often a punch of angst with Charity Parkerson’s books, but this one was sweet from start to finish. Just what was needed to give me a pick me up!

Not as good

I liked just didn't love it like I had the previous books. I was half to be back with the characters in the hellish clan but I think this story was too short and felt slightly rushed.
