New Evil. Relentless Vendettas. Deadly Games. Welcome back to the Dark City.
I returned to the city with one thing on my mind; find my nemesis and finish her. Nothing else mattered. Not the shadowy Organization I worked for. Not the Magic Council and their veiled threats. None of it.
Just me and the witch locked into one final dance.
But things weren’t exactly going to plan as I discovered a new, sinister threat. One that was trying to pry at the kind of locked doors that should never be opened, as well as driving a conspiracy to turn the entire world on its head.
With Halloween just around the corner, the veil was thinning, bringing darker nights and wild magic. And a terrible danger that would fast turn me from hunter to hunted as I raced toward the final round of a deadly end game.
A Game of Witches is the third Morgan Rook novel in the Urban Fantasy Thriller ‘The Order of Shadows’ series.
If you love supernatural thrillers, hard boiled action and high octane thrills, then you’ll love this new book from Kit Hallows, author of Urban Fantasy books with teeth!

Great supernatural scare! A Game of Witches: A Morgan Rook Supernatural Thriller The Order of Shadows, Book 3 By: Kit Hallows Narrated by: Shawn Compton This is a book I received from Audioboom and the review is voluntary. I had read book one and missed book 2 and still was able to follow along but I should have read book 2 first for the enjoyment! I will have to go back and get it! Morgan is our main character and he is after one thing, the witch that killed the person he loved. The witch is got a drug she is huddling on the streets but it's laced with magic and she can enter their minds. It's a wild ride with lots of suspense, action, great fantasy, magic, unpredictable situations, and a terrific plot and imagination! Morgan also has someone on his side, well, with him but can't let him loose! He ends up having to let his other self out! Wow! Morgan is certainly no one to mess with but shows his vulnerable side in this book! Read in order and enjoy the great fantasy world and follow Morgan as he tries to get his witch! Narration was great! Performed male, female, and children and made them sound believable.
Morgan Rook is one of those characters that will not leave your brain. He grabs on and hijacks everything until you finish the book and start begging for more. (And this is me begging. Please please please more Morgan!). This truly is my favorite of the Order of Shadows thus far. A Game of Witches is darker, with a more bite in the night sort of feel. I absolutely loved every minute of it. It's amazingly detailed but still leaves enough for your imagination to run wild!
Anger, revenge, violence, evil games, magic, paranormal creatures, new friends and acquaintances becoming friends, frightened children, and two halves working together. What could be better...not much. Morgan Rook is closer to his revenge against eht evil witch who killed his girlfriend. But doing it puts him in the position of moving further from the "Organization" and his boss silently backs him up. The ending is only the beginning of new quest and the makings of a new "Order." Would I recommend this book and series. Absolutely. I just can't put it aside after reading the third book, I must quickly finish this review so I can grab the fourth one and get started. Morgan is a hero that demands attention.
This book is more heavily invested in the main arc than the previous one, Morgan Rook finally comes face to face with his nemesis, the witch that killed his girlfriend, but will he survive the encounter.
Besides ramping up this main arc, the book introduces new complications with his employers and the secretive organisation that oversees them and brings back some characters from earlier in the series who seem like they will become a significant part of the series in the future.
The narrator delivers a strong overall performance with clear and distinctive tones serving to enhance the overall story greatly.
Overall, a strong instalment in this series that takes some notable steps forward and expands the problems for the hero.
[Note - I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.]
This storyline was as action packed as the other books, and maybe it was just me, but it was not as grimdark as I have come to expect. Seemed to over compensate on the "good" side of morgan to color the "other" side. I know that is vague but no spoilers from the Wolfman (that is me btw). Also, the ending was a bit anticlimactic, I expected more umph.
My review is based on the audiobook. Once again Morgan Rook takes us on an exciting magical journey filled with action and suspense. The narrator does an excellent job bringing the story and characters to life - I am captivated by every spoken word. I really love the world that the author has created in this series.
Another cracker of a book in this series. The two world or multi world design is the right combination of modern and fantasy to meet an itch I haven't had scratched in a while, I'm enjoying the characters and story.
