"So I’m going to get my guy. No more good boy Connor here. Sometimes you have to play hard to win hard. And I’m playing to win."
I do like a high school m/m bully romance, and although there's not too much romance in Good Boy yet, I've no doubt that Megan Lowe will deliver in book 2 of the series, Bad Boy💗.
This is an enemies to lovers, opposites attract, dating app trope and is book 1 in the duet.
It started out so good. Then shit happened and I didn't understand a single sentence. Ended with a cliffhanger so continued on to the next book. Let's see how that one goes.
This book had so much potential to be an interesting storyline - especially with the “James” aspect of Cav…but the author’s writing is just very amateur. Several spelling and grammar errors, back and forth on the same issues, rarely any plot development, character flaws, odd conversation interactions, etc. the only character I downright enjoy is Chloe. Jace acted like he was possessed and turned into a minion, Thomas is a psychotic-stalking-rapey creep, Cav has some internalized homophobia that literally no one is addressing, Amy is an obvious filler, and Conner acts like a 13 year old with his emotions. Of COURSE I’m going to attempt to read the 2nd book mainly because I want to know what Thomas’ intentions are and the overall relationship between Cav and Con end up …but the plot was severely underdeveloped and needs a real improvement.
This book had a lot of potential. It had a good base and a good storyline, but the details are missing. The depth is missing. The characters were good in the beginning but at the end they weren’t believable. One of the main MC’s did not sit right with me. The idea I think was to have him be a bully and to be a mystery but instead it fell flat. I’ll read the 2nd book and hope the storyline lives up to it’s potential.
To be honest haven’t really read this book maybe the first 40% but it was so boring and annoying and I was so over it so I skipped to the last chapter lol, for sure not planning to read the second book ☺️
This was a tough read from the very first page, an angsty read full of poor decisions, misunderstandings, and all the usual difficulties of growing up. What added even further to the angst of this story was Connor's open homosexuality, the hiding of other's sexuality, and all the heartbreaking decisions made that frustrated me one moment while pulling at my heartstrings the next. And just when you think you know where things are going Ms. Lowe pulls no punches in her jaw on the floor cliffhanger ending.
Connor Siddell is in fact a good boy, someone with a kind and protective heart. He's new in town after living through tragic events, trying to start over while living openly as a gay young man. He luckily discovers someone to help ease his heart and soul on a dating app which leads to lots of romantic drama. The one dark spot is Cavanaugh McLaughlin, fellow classmate who shows a lot of anger and hatred towards. Though Connor doesn't understand what fuels Cav's rage, it definitely complicates things from the very start and ends up being just one piece to the cliffhanger ending. Cav's a complicated character, one I didn't really care for at the start. He's a Senator's son whose life is decided for him. He's a popular bad boy with the tattoos to prove it while he commits deeds of bullying that made him occasionally unlikable. There's a lot of pain hiding behind his hurtful behavior though, lots of stories about him, about his friends, and it all leads to inner conflicts about what he wants his life to be and who he wants to admit to being. Things take a big turn for him once Connor discovers the truth about Cav and the attraction Cav feels for him. It's a sizzling connection between them but one that doesn't go smoothly as Cav fights the truth of his feelings in a journey that broke my heart.
Cav and Con are a compelling main couple whose connection is put through the wringer in a tale that pulled at my heartstrings. There was never a guaranteed HEA for these two as there was a lot of push/pull between them which left me on edge the entire time I saw them together. Surrounding this larger than life main couple was a cast of intriguing secondary characters like Jase, Connor's brother who was loyal and loving, someone who becomes a surprisingly strong support to Cav as the story progresses. Cav's friend Thomas was someone who left me enraged as his supposed friendship often saw him being manipulative and hurtful while constantly getting between him and Connor. His actions scared me and his presence ultimately fueled the painfully jaw-dropping ending. I'm now left waiting for a resolution to that tragic cliffhanger, waiting in breathless anticipation to a powerful tale that packs an emotional wallop!
𝒢𝑒𝓃𝓇𝑒 | 𝒯𝓇𝑜𝓅𝑒𝓈: MM 𝒮𝑒𝓇𝒾𝑒𝓈: Good Boy/Bad Boy Duet, Book 1 𝒮𝓉𝑒𝒶𝓂 𝐿𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓁: 🔥🔥🔥
This was nothing like I thought it would be. It was angsty and angry and filled with questionable choices and never ending jealousy.
Our MMCs are Cav and Connor. Connor is out and proud. I really liked him, but he was a bit of a pushover. Cav is a senator’s son, trapped in a cookie cutter life, and the center of a pretty brutal rumor about killing one of his friends (which we never get a lot of info about). The chemistry between these two is INSANE, but with Cav in denial and Connor making stupid choices, the push/pull was just heavy and left me unsatisfied.
Technically no cheating but Connor tries to “move on” with a guy and he does some stuff. I’ll admit, he didn’t owe Cav anything but there were hints dropped that Cav was “trying” so it kind of did feel like cheating. I really wish none of that had happened. Everyone tried to warn Connor but he still made stupid choices I feel took away from his and Cav’s blooming love. I kept wondering HOW he could mess around with his boyfriend when he admits he’s falling for Cav…BUT these are 18 year old kids. It shows in this book, so it’s both heartbreaking and realistic to a fault.
And then that ending??? WTF??? Definitely a hard cliffhanger. All I have to say is these guys better get their heads out of their rear ends in the next book or I’ll be upset. They have this connection so everything that happened killed me in this book. It’s not happy or sweet or romantic. This is going to be a hard won HEA.
This is my first story by Megan Lowe and I fell in love with it, the book is narrated by Connor, the good boy, it’s dynamic, entertaining, fun, with a lot of drama and an excellent rhythm, as well as being accompanied of wonderful an real characters with very interesting secrets.
Connor is our good boy, new in town and in high school, a kind, loving, openly homosexual boy, willing to protect those he loves, especially his brother Jase, both have faced tragic situations from a very young age and now have to adjust to their new life with Amy their older sister. Fortunately, Connor meets James, a sexy and charismatic boy, in a dating app, in which he finds a refuge from his sadness, his problems with Amy, and someone who could be a potential mate. However, all of that is forgotten when he becomes Cavanaugh's new target on his first day of school, a situation that becomes quite dramatic and confusing because Connor doesn't know what he's doing to awaken Cav's fury, and I have to say that at first I didn't really understand what was going on either, and I suffered a lot along with Connor, until he discovers Cav's secret, and all it gets even more complicated.
Cavanaugh is the complete opposite of Connor: a bad boy, the school bully and the most popular guy, he’s handsome, with tattoos and status, but he’s also a lost boy and one that is confused between who he really is and who his parents want him to be, in addition to being the protagonist of a series of unpleasant rumors on campus. I think Cav is the most complicated character between the two boys, since he lives in a constant struggle between self-acceptance, his dreams and desires, and what he've been told is the right thing to do. Added to all this is the mysterious death of one of his best friends, and the state of the relationship he has with Thomas, his another friend and who seemed to me a rather difficult character to understand.
The relationship between Cav & Connor is not simple, it all begins with the bullying that Cav exerts on Connor, but once Con discovers who Cavanaugh really is, it is impossible for him to hide what he feels about him , and it’s heartbreaking to read Cav struggling to hide his feelings, rejecting Con once he lets himself show what he feels and trying to avoid at all costs thinking that a future between them may be possible, and when Thomas gets between them, with his intrigues and second intentions, everything escalates in a disastrous way, leaving serious consequences for both, and a tragic and painful ending.
One of the things I liked the most about this book was Jase: I love their relationship with Connor, they have enormous loyalty and love for each other which is put to the test when Cavanaugh enters the equation, and although at first I didn't really like the friendship that Jase formed with Cav, in the end it makes me very happy that neither of them was alone. Chloe was also a girl that I loved, her sense of humor and fun and straightforward personality complemented very well with the dreamy and romantic personality of Con. And on the other side is Thomas, a boy who is supposed to be Cav’s friend but does not behave as such, his intensity with Connor sometimes scared me, his behavior definitely did and I ended up hating him madly, maybe my opinion of him will change once all of Cav's secrets are discovered, maybe not, for now he's the only character I can't stand.
But even with all the drama and misunderstandings, Good Boy was an incredible read, which while it leaves some things unsolved and maintains the mystery regarding Cavanaugh, I liked it a lot. Also, I think that at the end of this duet the circle will be closed and we will be able to see what the future holds for Cav & Con.

With a title like Good Boy, I didn’t expect this book to be as angsty and emotional as it was, but I was here for it. This duet is set in high school so there’s a lot of questionable choices made, friendship drama and jealousy throughout. Connor Siddell and Cavanaugh (Cav) McLaughlin are the main characters; they’re opposites in many ways, yet they have an undeniable connection that doesn’t always make sense, but keeps pulling them together.
Connor isn’t your average good boy. He’s a nice guy and is trying to navigate a new school in a new state during his senior year. While trying to keep his head down and not make waves, he manages to catch Cav’s attention. Connor is out and proud but makes questionable choices when it comes to Cav, doing some strange things to make him jealous and playing right into his hand. Everyone tries to warn him to be careful and Connor’s bad decisions ended up taking away from the love story developing here, as unusual as it is.
Cav is the son of a senator, putting limitations on what’s acceptable for him to do in public. Because of this, he’s majorly in denial of his sexuality and is simultaneously jealous of Connor and intimidated by his openness. He’s the bad boy in this duet, not only because of his bullying tendencies and tattoos, but also because of his scheming. Cav is clearly confused, but makes some sweet gestures that get you right in the feels and keep you rooting for him to finally be himself.
Their relationship is definitely unconventional to say the least, but the chemistry between these two is insane. You’re rooting for them to finally put their differences aside and figure it out, but they’re clearly both stubborn and think they’re doing what’s best for themselves and for each other. I think once they get over themselves, they could be really dynamic and strong together, however they’re 18-year-olds and they’re still struggling to figure out who they are. Their age is definitely a bit of a detriment to the story, but their actions are really realistic for high school seniors - afraid to confront their emotions and making questionable decisions along the way.
Warning - this is a duet, so Good Boy ends on a pretty big cliffhanger. Everything is really messy and I can’t wait to see how their story is going to come together. After all the hurt and lies and uncertainty in this book, I’m really hoping for a hard won, emotional and satisfying HEA for Con and Cav.
> I have a crush > he likes me back but is stupid > we fuck > he leaves > I go out with his best friend to make him jealous > it doesn't work out > I want him back > he thinks I don't love him
So much 𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮.
That's the whole story. It was 𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗯, I don't even know why I completed it. Even the 𝙨𝙚𝙭 𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙. 😔
Con is one dumb 𝕚𝕕𝕚𝕠𝕥. I have never met a teenager who acts like him. Actually, I have 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙚𝙩 𝙖 𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠. Why do authors think that teenagers are so stupid and only think with their dicks or vaginas? Why do they make them 𝘀𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲? 😤
And the 𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 between Con and Jes was so 𝙪𝙣𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘. They have an argument and their sister goes '𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙜𝙪𝙮𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩'. 𝙒𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩!? Unless I fight once with my brother a day I wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully. 😩
What's with Con telling his 15 year old brother not to use the word 'fuck'? Are you serious? The 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙮𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙛. 🤨
The characters were 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 and acted really 𝗮𝗯𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹. None of them were even the slightest bit believable. 🥱
The 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗯. 😐
If I wanted to read a 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙥𝙞𝙙 𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 story I would have 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙖 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣'𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠. 😫
I am not even going to try the sequel any time soon. I need to have a ᴛʜᴇʀᴀᴘʏ sᴇssɪᴏɴ before I engage in more such challenging reads.
“This, what we have… had, meant everything to me, but I can’t. We can’t.” “You mean you won’t.” He shrugs. “What’s the difference?” “Can’t is someone preventing you. Won’t is you’re the one who’s in the way.”
Good Boy is the first book of a duet, it ends in a cliffhanger that will have you immediately reaching for Bad Boy…thankfully it has been released and there is no need to wait. There are some unanswered questions that need answering. These characters wear scars from the lives they’ve had to endure. They’re not perfect and they make poor choices as they navigate unchartered waters. Easy to read story, but nothing makes it stand out as a must read.
This MM high school, bully trope pulled me in, as usually when I’ve read MM the characters have been older. It was refreshing that Connor came out to a supportive family and parents. He is only 18, but has had to witness both of his parents battle cancer. Loneliness has him reaching out to James who he clicks with instantly, on Poundr a hookup app. James is still in the closet as his mum is a senator and once school begins, he ghosts Connor. It seems the school bully Cav has his radar firmly set on Connor. He will stop at nothing to make life uncomfortable for Connor. A rift grows between Connor and his little brother when Cav pulls him into his clique. Connor is smitten with Cav, even though he obviously hates him. It’s an angsty relationship to watch as tempers flare, lust builds and jealousy rages.
Oh my goodness that ENDING. I need the next book like NOW.
Wow this book for me had everything a good MM book should have. Two main characters that sizzled with passion, whether it be hate, lust, love, or otherwise. Connor and Cav were two men on a one-way train to either pain or ecstasy!
This duet will keep you wanting more, with angst galore, pain, betrayal, and lots of unrequited lust. You won't be able to put this down for long.
Bring on July and the conclusion to this fabulous duet.
I mean this with so much respect. There is something really great about this book. There is so much potential. But it felt like a chore getting through this one. There is WAY too much dialogue. Less is more, less is more, less is more. I feel like this novel was very dialogue driven and sometimes that can work but in this case, not so much. I felt like the same thing was being repeated over and over again. It was like a merry-go-round. If 30% of the repetitive dialogue was cut out, this book would read so smooth and be an excellent read.
As for the plot, it was a little frustrating. Cav is supposed to have tattoos on his forearms but when they share video spankbank material, those aren’t noticeable? Also, the altercation where Con gropes Cav’s package in the middle of a school hallway was ridiculous and completely snapped me out of the book. Again, so much potential and the author is a talented writer, there’s no doubt. Just needed some developmental polishing.
This is my actual first read from this author and man is it a doozie. Cav and Connor are so freaking drawn to one another but there are serious forces working against them on top of some seriously stupid decision making on both parts. The relationship between Cav and Connor is definitely not one that you would think of but I’m really pulling for these two. Connor and Cav’s story is filled with real life situations and plenty of drama. Be prepared to be taken on an emotional roller coaster that will have you wanting to both hug and strangle all the characters! This was honestly a great real I was captivated from the very beginning all the way to the end where I was still trying to turn the page because that cliffy is freaking rough! I can’t wait to get me hands on book 2 and I’m praying these two get their ish together and get there HEA!!
Wow! This book packs a punch! I was absolutely taken with Connor and Cav right from the very beginning, and this story just drew me in. I love MM romances, and don't read too many high school ones, but the blurb sucked me in, and I am dying for book two! There's a bully aspect between these two and it kept me turning the pages. I love all the side characters in this book...they really up the ante in the book without taking away from the main characters. The tension between them is just so good, that you can't help but be drawn in, and cheering for them...and that ending! I don't know what I'm going to do while I wait! I absolutely cannot wait for book two in this duet, and how their story unfolds! There is so much we don't know, and I can't wait to find out!
Megan Lowe is a new author to me , but after reading Good Boy ( the first book in the Good Boy /Bad Boy Duet ) she will be going on my list of very favorite authors. Omg , I could not seriously put this book down for a minute.’ This is a M/M Bully romance with recently has become one of my very favorite Tropes . Connor And Cavs journey grabbed onto me from the very beginning . The bully aspect between these two had my attention the whole entire time . There were so many moments I was cheering for them and others I was truly so frustrated. The emotion , the angst , the perfect amount of darkness, the tension , the back and forth , all make this such a addictive read. I end up reading into the early morning . I need the next book now ❤️💜
Okay, here’s the thing. First, these characters are frustrating as H-E-L-L! But they’re also high school boys trying to figure crap out. They’re dealing with parents who may not accept who they are, and they’re struggling. And the struggle here is REAL. Con and Cav are wonderful characters, and I can’t wait to see where the second half of the duet takes us. Con isn’t afraid to be who he is. Cav is so used to hiding who he is, but Con sees him anyway. The secondary characters are fleshed out very well and there’s a realistic “problem child” character, who is making waves for our couple. That cliffhanger though… Yikes! Diving right into book two because I can’t stand a minute apart from these boys.
There’s a lot of angst and misunderstandings and stupidity from both characters. I honestly don’t fully like either boy but the story was compelling enough that I kept going. I found a lot of the plot lines predictable but there’s still a lot of unanswered questions. The second book is from Cav’s POV so that should be interesting.
My main issue is that Cav didn’t seem as bad boy as the story wanted us to believe he was. Yes he does fucked up shit to Con but I never got the sense he RAN the school and that everyone was afraid of him. Yes I guess more the warnings came from James but still.
And Thomas is a problem. Not sure what his angle was but everything about him is just not okay IMO he seems like a psychopath lol
Oh my goodness that ENDING.... I need the next book like NOW... wow this book for me had everything a good MM book should have. Two main characters that sizzled with passion, whether it be hate, lust, love or otherwise Connor and Cav were two men on a one way train to either pain or ecstasy! This duet will keep you wanting more, with angst galore, pain, betrayal and lots of unrequited lust... you won't be able to put this down for long, bring on July and the conclusion to this fabulous duet.
Good Boy is the 1st book in the Good Boy/Bad Boy duet. This young adult MM tale was emotional, intense and angsty filled with hurt, lies, questionable choices, jealously and drama. Here we have two main characters, one out and proud and the other in denial of his sexuality who have an undeniable connection and intense chemistry. You will be rooting for these two throughout the novel even though their relationship is not what you would expect. The story will have you captivated from start to finish and ends in a major cliff hanger. I can't wait for the next book to see how it all ends. I would recommend this novel to lovers of MM Bully romance.
I need the second book like yesterday. Reading the blurb, I felt like I could predict a few things that would occur in the story and while I did predict one major thing, all other events caught me off guard. And yes, it may seem like the drama was over the top, but I completely get it because this is high-school we are talking about. Miscommunication and never-ending drama is the order of the day! All I can really say is that I loved Connor, and then I wanted to slap him across the face, and I just felt bad for Cav *sigh*
Here's to hoping they get this stuff together in book two! I seriously can't wait!
This book is difficult to review. It was a struggle to finish. At 50%, I almost didn't. But it was good enough to keep me wondering what would happen next. The characters aren't well developed, there's a lot of cloak and dagger secrets but it's all very predictable. And don't get me started on the triggering things that seem to be thrown in without much explanation or thought. I did purchase the second book because this ends on a cliffhanger. Otherwise I wouldn't have given it a thought to continue the series.
Why 3? Simple this book is a good read, Connor an Cav? They’re okay because they were only together once and the rest is bickering between him Thomas and Cav. There’s supposed to be a reason Thomas is with Connor, but the Author drags it out and we never really find out, Cav’s character is not really being developed and he and Connor never really make a decision. It’s all about “I will IF you…”and never happens on either side. It’s good that there is a second book but I have a feeling it’s going to be rushed because this one was dragged. My honest opinion
Intense, intriguing and dramatic, Good Boy is a captivating read.
Full of drama and real-life battles, this book takes you on an adventurous and emotional ride. Between the angst of finding, understanding and defining oneself, and the place love and relationships takes in your life, there is an ominous and dark undertone of mystery and intrigue, and of course, that cliffhanger... I need the rest of this story now!
Cliffhanger is evil! This story was amazing. This is my first Megan Lowe book but definitely will be reading more. I can’t wait for book two. I need to know how Connor and Cav’s story ends. Hoping book two is Cav’s point of view cause I’m desperate to know what’s going on with his life and I’m his head. Connor needs to fix everything. I just wow. Desperately wishing I had book two now. Highly recommend this book. It was a bit of a roller coaster between the two. Highly recommend!
So this is the first book I’ve read by this author and she had me hooked from page one!
I cannot wait to see where this goes and see if these two can truly open up fully with one another. It would be such a shame otherwise I think they are made for one another.
I really enjoyed the back and forth and I really do love a book that plays with your emotions and this one did!
This would've been a great book if it wasn't missing some details. Details like how Conner fell in love with Cav aka James. They only talked a few times but he's in love with him🤔and I predicted from the start that James was Cav😏 there were some things I didn't understand and didn't flow right so therfore 3 stars.
There were some places that I doubted credibility, mainly because Cav was almost too much at times and not in a 'Aww, he's so repressed' way. But I loved Connor every moment. It was honestly his realness that kept me interested. I just wish this one didn't end on a cliffhanger.
