My children love this book and demand it to be read to them over and over again at bedtime. It is a highly entertaining story of how the mother of two children gets zapped by an extra-terrestrial and then the boys have to cover for her. This leads to some hilarious situations as they have to pretend in public that she is normal when she is making beeping noises and emits a green hue. The book also allows kids to imagine what it would be like without their parents looking after them, which gives them the opportunity for adventure but also makes them appreciate what it would be like if they had to fend for themselves. I would highly recommend this book for kids.

If your child is ready for chapter books, "Alien Mom" by Minerva Taylor will immensely please him/her. This entertaining story introduces a humorous look at science fiction through a child's eyes and what happens when the unthinkable happens.
Stewart and James, two young brothers getting ready for school, " were complaining about the cereal they were to finish, when a "pale, green light. . ." enters the room. Then everything happens to make this a delightful story.
Minerva Taylor is masterful in her ability to use a style of writing that sounds as good as it looks. Her use of figurative language is evident on page after page: "like the stone statue in the park" (Chapter One) through this effective simile: "The last piece of bread, toasted like a brick" (Chapter Six). Descriptive phrases abound in Ms. Taylor's story. On page four the reader will find "whooshed through the ceiling" and " on page 41 "their mother's hair straightened and fell limp." Many more examples fill the pages.
When one decides on qualities a book should contain for his/her child, "Alien Mom" is a great choice. The plot will be believeable to a child, and the language will please an adult. The vocabulary is easy, the descriptive passages are vivid, and the boys are fun but serious when necessary. What more could one want for a young reader?

The latest gem from Minerva Taylor's versatile pen is a charming little story book for children. My grandchildren, both under 9, love it. It's funny, imaginative and magical. Just the sort of book children love to read or have read to them. This book is delightfully illustrated by Victoria Possnett who captures the facial expressions perfectly to bring reality to the book.

Great book. Definitely recommend for under 12s. I love the way the mum does weird things and doesn't even realise it-it reminds me of all
adults because they are mad! I hope Minerva Taylor writes more books.
