Un divertit àlbum sobre què vol dir ser una família. Un gos... i un munt d’aneguets! Tot d’una el Rafa es troba convertit en el papa d’un ramat d’aneguets i aviat s’adona que s’ha ficat en un bon embolic!
A dog becomes the unlikely, reluctant father of a squad of ducklings! He grows to love them, their questions, and even the incessant shouting of 'Dad'. Then, the father duck appears to claim his lost children back. The doggy father is heartbroken. Then, the duck says he's accidentally become the father of... a rather large group of puppies... and offers to trade for his children. Looking at the puppies, the dog father imagines how amazing it would be to have puppies asking questions, wanting goodnight cuddles, and calling him dad. But, he still loves the ducklings he's been raising. Can he be a father to both? The both of them? The duck seems to have agreed, and the dog is very happy to be 'dad' to what must feel like a hundred ducks and a hundred dogs, whom he loves very much.
Wow, another picture book that hits it out of the park!!! Quirky illustrations and a simple storyline (not laden with too many unnecessary words) make this a fabulous read-aloud!!! [I actually read it aloud to try out character voices!!!!] *Lovely, subtle messaging about bringing together different families & creating a joyful community. Could be paired with the book "Cat Dog Dog" for a theme of inclusivity and acceptance.
Duck, Duck, Dad? is a brilliant story in which a dog called Ralph ends up looking after many many ducklings after one decides he is their dad.
This is a great book that is both heartwarming and funny. It's amusing to see Ralph coping with his new unexpected life as a father and the children enjoyed seeing all of the ducklings with Ralph caring for them even when at times it was tricky with so many. The ending was a surprise even to me and I think it really made the already amusing book even better whilst also showing that families are all different and that the care and love for each other is the most important factor of a family. Something the book shows very well.
The illustrations are very cute and we loved seeing the ducklings and Ralph and all the little speech marks with the ducks requests. It's a fun way to get the story across and it's fun how the ducklings each had their own personalities.
This is a fantastic story and I think I enjoyed it as much as the children did, a lovely heartwarming read with a lovely twist ending.

A dog finds a newly-hatched duckling, who thinks the dog is his dad. In fact, there is a whole gang of ducklings! Dog Dad does the best he can, and rather enjoys his funny family. Then he meets Duck Dad.... who has a gang of puppies!
They join forces to create a truly wonderful family, full of cuddles.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to have a specifically "gay dad" message or not... You could read that into the story if you wanted to, or take it as a "found family" or "blended family" story, or simply just a lovely, funny story.
Ralph is a dog who enjoys his quiet lifestyle - until one day when a bunch of ducklings hatch as he's walking by. Of course, they imprint on him and believe he's their father. Ralph copes as best he can and slowly adapts to his new role. Actually, he loves it! But then an adult duck shows up and claims the brood as her own - in exchange for a bunch of puppies! Ralph again adjusts but also misses his ducklings. The problem is solved when both groups come together as a blended family. Cute, poignan, and thoughtful.
Ralph enjoys a quiet dog's life walking until he passes an egg that cracks open. The story follows Ralph as more and more eggs open and he becomes an inadvertent Dad. As Dad he must feed them and bathe them, and teach them to swim, and put them to bed. But the ending has a twist that is fun and relieves Ralph after a lot of hard work and presents him with a new surprise flock of challenges. A fun twist ending to read aloud to children.
Though colorful, very busy illustrations show the chaos that ensues in this mashup plot when a dozen duck hatchlings imprint on the wrong species, in this case a hapless dog that apparently has not been neutered and has fathered dozens of puppies. Though the theme of blending diverse families is laudable, this so-called “celebration of love and community” seems be oblivious to the animal homelessness crisis, which results in the euthanization of millions of otherwise healthy animals each year.
Ralph was minding his own business when he came across a plethora of duck eggs... and now these ducklings call him Dad! They're a lot of work for one dog, but at least he gets lots of cuddles-- and you'll be surprised what happens when he finds their duck father! Cute, chaotic, a delightful book to be paired with a fun narrator.
Ralph, a dog, enjoyed a quiet life. That is, until the ducklings came. The ducklings think Ralph is their dad. Ralph tries his best and almost begins to enjoy his new noisy life, until… Daddy Duck comes on the scene. Find out what happens in this fun-to-read book about family and bonding.
I enjoyed this book! The book talks about how families can be different, but there is still so much love to be shown, no matter the differences! The dog does such a good job being the dad of chicks; even though they aren't his children, he loves them the same!
Reminiscent of the original Mother Bruce book (and truthfully, one or two books was enough for that series), this is delightful. Lots of the humor will resonate more for the adult reading it than for listeners, but everyone will have fun. I love the artwork, though the layout will work better with one on one reads than with a group. And the final twist fits today's trend towards "all kinds of families" messages, BUT it does it without hitting you over the head with the message. All in all, one of the best picture books that I've seen recently.
