If they could stop arguing for a hot second . . . they just might fall in love.
Gabriel Moretti and Sean Cooper should be friends. They’re both passionate about serving delicious food to their customers. They both love to kick back with the other food truck owners at the collective they’ve joined. But maybe it’s possible to have too much in common . . .
Especially when they’ve chosen the exact same name for their food trucks.
Gabriel and Sean know that one of them will have to change the name. The only question is, who’s willing to give in first?
It’s inevitable that with such a difficult decision, their tempers flare. But to their shock, their deeply-buried chemistry ignites too. Could it be that for them fighting is actually flirting, and what they really crave is each other?
A lifelong Oregonian, Beth Bolden has just recently moved to North Carolina with her supportive husband and their sweet kitten, Earl Grey. Beth still believes in Keeping Portland Weird, and intends to be just as weird in Raleigh.
Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. She’s published fourteen novels and five short stories.
I really thought this would be more about a rivalry/rival food trucks and be rival to lovers. The prologue kind of made me think it was going that way and I was excited but it ended up being only ok.
This is the third book in Beth's excellent Food Truck Warriors series and it's my favourite one so far.
The tension between Gabe and Sean is palpable and they come together and fight like two mating stags, raging and expecting the other to back down.
However, as the story progresses, the reader becomes aware of Sean's reason for his truck's name and at once sympathies begin to twist and turn and Gabe's determination not to change his seems less important and more just stubbornness.
Of course, Gabe doesn't know the reason, because Sean's just as big a stubborn donkey as Gabe is and there were times while I was reading this (once I again I beta read for Beth) that I wanted to bash both their heads together and tell them to grow up!
It's very clear though that they both need something from the other and if they could only get over themselves and actually talk about the situation, a compromise could be found.
Tony gets involved in the stirring and forces them to work together, in turn prompting the heart to heart both have really needed and then setting them on the path to happiness.
Full of all the foodie love this author is known for, On A Roll is beautifully paced, steamy and sweet.
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review
This is sweet but angsty enemies to lovers, and I'm here for it! Oh, but how delightful it was to see Gabriel and Sean go from "can't stand you" to "can't stand being without you". A wonderful book that'll leave you craving for meatball subs!
4.5 Gabe and Sean's story on why they appear to hate each other was a great story. I love the enemies to lovers trope and their chemistry felt real. Gabe in particular had more layers to him than I first thought and his reasoning for keeping the name was actually pretty sweet. There's a little bit of angst that I won't go into for spoilers. For a while I could see the train wreck coming and I felt so bad for them. It's rare that books get me emotional but I very nearly had a cry, I hadn't expected I'd get as involved as I did
Since the first book in this series, Sean and Gabriel caught my eye and I was looking forward to reading the stories badly knowing that the story was going to be for both guys. A fabulous story that begins with 2 food trucks with the same name and a flying meatball. Tony continues to make his role as gossip guy but at the same time tries to push Sean and Gabriel together. The book is adorable and funny and Gabe, well Gabe is Gabe and that’s all I say, loud and Italian. And pay attention to Ren, Gabriel’s cousin, I hope he get’s his man in a near future. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This one is fun! Gabe and Sean spend half the book fighting, and the other half…. Seriously, I loved this book! It’s snarky and hot, and made me hungry. And the meatball! I laughed out loud at that one. The Food Truck Warriors series is great. On a Roll makes the perfect next segment in it. I love Beth’s books, and I think I just found my new favorite.
Entertaining story of two food truck owners, with a mild enemies to loves trope. The chemistry didn’t really come across for me, and the characters personalities were a little too fluid.
On a Roll starts off by showing us the explosive first meeting two years prior between Gabriel and Sean as it turns out they both have the same name for their food truck but neither will give in when it comes to changing. Gabriel does not come off well in the prologue and it took me a little while to warm up to him but he dives into everything with his whole heart whether it's his food truck or his frenemy relationship with Sean. Sean has his very personal reason for not wanting to change the name whereas Gabriel's is pure stubbornness, something that seems to run strong with both men. Once they realise there is heat and attraction bubbling beneath the surface, they jump at each other with the deal that it's only hooking up. Not really something Gabriel should be agreeing to when feelings are involved but he's determined to show Sean what they can be together. They definitely work well as a couple, even when bickering together, and can bring out the best in each other but Sean has to deal with his feelings before they can possibly move forward. The food truck lot is as entertaining as every with everyone, especially Tony, more than happy to be all up in everyone's business but they are also so supportive when needed and not afraid to push each other when necessary. It is good getting to know Ren, Gabriel's cousin, housemate and work colleague, and I'm hoping he gets his own story in the future as I agree with Gabriel that there's something there. A good read overall, entertaining with highs and lows for both MC's, though it all comes together a little too quickly at the end for me. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I have been interested in Gabe and Sean ever since I learned of the "meatball incident" earlier in this series.
I enjoyed their banter and the snark between them, though I didn't always feel the strong connection between them.
And 2 years of tension because of the name of a food truck? Yeah, that had my eyes rolling more than once. They felt quite... juvenile I guess is the word I am thinking of here. And their antics weren't just affecting each other but those around him, which irked me as much as it irked them.
I liked Sean's back story and why he is reluctant, and felt all his emotions with him.
Whilst this wasn't my favourite in the Food Truck Warriors series, I see that it does play a big partin moving the series along with other characters, and I will be reading more books in the future
This book gave me all the feels! I laughed (a lot), I smiled swooned and teared up.
You can read this as a standalone but I highly recommend the whole series because the found family builds as the series continues. Not only is the found family great but we also see cameos of the two MCs and how much they hate eachother before this book. Definitely one of my favorites in this series.
I enjoyed this book. It was fun and entertaining with a lil dash of angst. As is typical for Beth Bolden's books there is some repetition of phrases and sentences but I still like her writing overall. The characters and world she's created are endearing and I want to keep reading about them.
The plot was really ridiculous to me and the drama over the name change seemed to drag on and on. The MCs' behavior were really juvenile for their age. I like Bolden's writing but the plot was weak and it bored me. I really enjoyed her Kitchen Gods series but all her other books were kind of meh to me.
This story was hilarious! We got glimpses of Gabriel and Sean here and there in the other stories, and those glimpses made me very curious what was going on between these two.
What made Gabriel throw a meatball at Sean? Well, I found out what made him do that, and I have to say.. this book is going to make you laugh out loud. I was smiling almost the whole time I was reading this.
Gabriel and Sean's relationship definitely started out as enemies... That slowly morphed into enemies with benefits.. that then turned into friends with benefits.. that then developed into them having feelings for each other.
I love, love, loved the buildup between these two men! The enemies to lovers aspect was written so well, and wasn't rushed or glossed over. I loved that! I also really liked how Beth incorporated another serious topic in this story, that topic being grief. Which everyone goes through at some point in their lives, and I really liked how Beth wrote about it in this story. Everyone grieves differently, and everyone's deals with;and moves on from it differently too.
I appreciated that Beth didn't just gloss over that aspect of Sean's character, Sean did freak out when he realized he might have feelings for Gabriel. But that was okay, cause that was how he was feeling, and he didn't know how to cope with liking someone after his husband passed. It was a really poignant and beautiful part of the story.
Aside from the heavy topic, this book was pretty lighthearted overall. It had plenty of shenanigans and bickering, new recipes, and new characters.
I also love the new names for both of these food trucks, they are very fitting.
I'm so excited to keep reading more books in this fantastic series, especially cause a new character was introduced in this book!
(I first read this in The Food Truck Warriors Box Set.)
I've always been a fan of enemies-to-lovers romances, but even I was blown away by how magical Gabe and Sean's story was. Gabriel's hotheaded energy could only be matched by Sean's calm stubbornness, and when the two of them clashed together I could practically see sparks start to fly. What made their constant arguments even better was how obviously attracted to each other the two of them were--I mean, come on, who throws a meatball at somebody as an act of serious aggression? When Tony forced the two of them to come to some sort of compromise, I'll admit that I had no idea who was going to come out unscathed. Two long years of digging their heels in did not make me optimistic about either man agreeing to change the name of his food truck, and after I found out why they each felt so strongly even I wasn't sure who was in the right anymore. But this story was about so much more than a simple food truck name--watching Gabe and Sean open up to each other, seeing how surprisingly compatible they were if they could just stop pushing each other's buttons was incredible. Gabe and Sean were an absolute delight, and even their silliest antics left a big smile on my face. As their "no-strings-attached" fling developed into something much deeper and more emotionally intimate than expected, I felt like I was falling in love right alongside each of them. Gabe and Sean didn't make things easy on each other, and for a while I was seriously unsure if they would be able to overcome the obstacles in their path, but with open communication and the support of their friends and family, these men found a way to make things work for good.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
I have been waiting for Gabe and Sean's story since the start of the series and it did not disappoint! Gabe is such a loudmouth when the story starts, it is easy to see why Sean initially fights back against him though I did not expect Sean's reason for holding on to the "On A Roll" name to be so sad. I loved the depth of chemistry between Sean and Gabe throughout the story, building even when they do not realize what has been going on between them for years. Sean's realization that not all love feels the same, something he struggles to come to terms with throughout the book was so important. Not all love will feel the same but that doesn't mean it is any less valuable than other love we have in our lives. Gabe's absolute faith in his feelings for Sean, even when Sean doubts what they have, was so sweet. One of my favorite characters in this book is Ren, Gabe's cousin and co-owner of "Balls and Buns." He is so deceptively carefree about love and relationships, it seems like he has been hurt in the past. I hope we will get to see his HEA eventually because he absolutely deserves it. I would not say no to a story about Luca either! I am excited to see what is going on with Ash and why he is so against Lennox's presence at the Food Truck Warriors lot. I have a feeling their story is going to be full of some tense and explosive chemistry. I can't wait for the next book in this series and hope there are more Food Truck Warriors/Riptide/Kitchen God's crossover story in Beth's brain because I cannot get enough of these characters. Highly recommend this series or really anything by Beth Bolden! I received an ARC for an honest and fair review.
On a Roll, the third book in Beth Bolden's Food Truck Warriors series, is a fabulous addition to this world of food truck owners.
Gabriel and Sean get off to a bad start, as they have the same name for their food trucks. They're two stubborn men who refuse to change their name, but are eventually forced to solve the problem.
What follows is a fun and adorable romance, full of tension, chemistry, and plenty of heat.
The men have some major obstacles in their way, but I enjoy how everything unfolds. The rivals aspect is enjoyable, as they're competitors who slowly become friends, move to friends with benefits, and then more.
I enjoy everything about these men, especially how they are together. Seeing them butting heads and being stubborn is entertaining. Seeing them slowly start to break down their walls is fabulous. And seeing them fall in love is heartwarming.
As for the sex, damn, these men know how to bring the heat.
Sean's past is heartbreaking, with his grief ever present. His confessions and his reasoning is all sad and really makes one fall for Sean. Add in his coming to terms with falling in love again, and how it's okay to do so, and I just love him more.
Written in alternating pov, we get both to know both men well. Add in the men from this Food Truck World, and Beth's other books, and everything is just wonderful. I love this created world and enjoy each story tremendously. The men are great and their stories ever better.
On a Roll is a riveting enemies to lovers tale. Beth Bolden brings plenty of emotion and heart to this charming story. I highly recommend it.
This has been a very fun series and this On a Roll is a great addition! I will admit that given the initial interactions with Gabe and Sean I wasn’t really sure how I’d end up loving these two, but I really did! Two stubborn and determined men, two food trucks and they have the same name, what could possibly happen there?!
Sean moved to LA to follow his dreams and open his food truck, On a Roll. Gabe wants to be independent of his overbearing family and have his own business selling his meatball sandwiches. He’s proud of his food and his truck, On a Roll. These two are good at making yummy food and fighting with each other. The time comes when someone has to change the truck name, but with both men holding strong it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. As Gabe and Sean start spending more time together trying to work something out their attraction starts to really burn. It’s supposed to be just sex, Sean isn’t ready to love again, but how long does that really last?
I ended up really loving Sean and Gabe! They pick and pick at each other, but there’s always something burning right under the surface between them. Most of the time their fights just left me feeling amused. And in the middle of that is a lot of strong emotion. These two end up falling deeper and harder than either man expected, but Sean has some painful secrets and those have to be dealt with if he’s ever really going to be able to move on. My heart hurt for his what he was going through, what he was feeling. And Gabe, oh I ended up loving him and his heart more than I ever expected. It was heartwarming and sweet, two men finding a real love they truly deserve.
3.5/5. By the end of the book, I was really rooting for Gabe and Sean, but the beginning was rough for me. The two men digging their heels in about the names of their food trucks seemed sort of plausible if you’re that sort of person, but the way they did it was really annoying, making lots of assumptions about one another and then culminating in Gabe actually throwing a meatball at Sean. Do grown adults actually do that? Towards colleagues? With very little provocation? It seemed a bit over the top.
The start of their relationship made me cringe, with the way Sean announced he wanted sex only, dismissed Gabe’s declaration that this didn’t work for him, and then tried to make him jealous—while telling himself that Gabe had no feelings and this was just about Gabe’s pride. Honestly, I think Sean should have kept seeing a therapist when he moved to LA. I know we want growth and character arcs in books, but it genuinely felt casually nasty to me, and it made me uncomfortable.
That being said, the relationship that they *actually* had once they got together was sweet. Sean talked about a part of himself he’d buried and really got to move forward in his life. They cooked together, shopped together, hung out together, collaborated on food together, had fun in bed together…. I think Sean’s subconscious was doing fine, but his conscious mind threw up so many roadblocks it was painful for both of them.
I was happy with how it was resolved and felt like they really did work through the issues that had been causing them problems. I like that they both let go of the past and rebranded (and Gabe’s new truck name makes me laugh a lot).

We finally get the story behind the spirited fight over the twin named On a Roll trucks between Sean and Gabe! Two men who both have good reason for their truck name become instant rivals as neither one wants to change it. Sean has played everything so close to the vest that no one knows he is a widower trying to start over, which is why he refuses to rename his truck. Gabe just rebranded his after thoroughly checking that the name wasn’t already in use, trying to distance his truck from his family’s restaurants. These two fight so much that it doesn’t take much effort for the fight to turn into something else. Their chemistry is undeniable and just maybe they fight so much to keep interacting with each other...It was also great to see the other guys from the other trucks as their little food truck collective takes off. Tony is definitely being a manipulative little dweeb though, even if he does mean well. It all works out in the end however. I loved these guys. Sean broke my heart. He really hadn’t figured that he was allowed to ever be happy again and is so determined to keep his dead husband as his priority that he almost misses out on something good. “Love doesn’t always feel the same” is my favorite quote from Shaw the bartender. This group of friends still have each other’s backs and I look forward to Ash’s story next!
Beth Bolden writes a seriously well put together tale, with just the right pace and energy to have passion flood the pages at just the right time, in her third instalment of the wonderful Food Truck Warriors series. On a Roll has intense chemistry and a delicious build up, making it a hard-to-put-down read and one that will have the “enemies to lovers” trope fans drooling over the pages!
Gabriel is an excellent balance of brash and vulnerable, while Sean is quiet but fierce, stronger than he appears. Their personalities abrade perfectly to create tension and sparks that allow for both hot and steamy kinds of heat.
Ms. Bolden’s fantastic dialogue and banter has a good smattering of sassy quips, making me giggle throughout the book. Then come the heart tugs, which may have caused my eyes to water a little. One heartwarming scene in particular will linger in my memory for some time to come.
Once again in this series, I found myself salivating while turning the pages. Beth really does know how to describe a meal, and her fun with food adds a whole other level to the dynamic of this story!
You certainly don’t need to read Beth Bolden’s other books in this delightful series to get the full experience, you can enjoy On a Roll right now – but why not savor the experience of the entire collection!
On a Roll is a great addition to the Food Truck Warriors series and I really enjoyed it. This story is well written, funny, sweet, emotional, the characters are intriguing and I love the storyline. Gabe and Sean do not get along and two years after their first meeting they are still snarking at each other and having issues about sharing the same name on their very different food trucks. Sean has a good reason for being so stubborn about the name he chose but he is reluctant to share that with Gabe so they are at a stalemate as Gabe refuses to back down out of sheer stubbornness. When they are forced to take action about the name they are both shocked when they get a lot closer than either one would ever expect them to. I love how their relationship evolves, they have a strong connection and smoking hot chemistry. They have a lot to learn about each other if they want a chance to have a real and lasting relationship but it will be worth it in the end if they don't give up. The secondary characters are great, I love seeing how well the other couples are doing and I can't wait to read the next book in this entertaining series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Another brilliant installment to the series. This can be a stand alone but many characters from the series make guest appearances. So in the food truck world hitting a guy in the chest with a meat ball covered in red sauce is the equivalent of pulling someone’s hair on the play ground. Sean is to far in his own head and grief after losing his husband two years before to grasp that the stubborn hot headed Italian guy that has a food truck with the same name Sean’s has to realize Gabe is attracted to him. When the two are forced to work together sparks fly! Will they be friends with benefits or so much more? These characters set in Ms. Bolden’s Food Truck Warriors world are lovable and well developed. You will want to read the entire series just to see how everything started and gets to this point. Then you’ll need the next story and the next to see if everyone gets their Happily Ever After. Ms. Bolden weaves a tale in a world we all wish we could visit just for the food alone. Then you throw in these interesting food truck owners...yeah you definitely be wanting to make a wrap and sit down for a fascinating read.
Gabe, what are you doooooing?! AHHH. This is definitely my favorite of the Food Truck Warriors series so far! Gabe and Sean clash like titans from moment one, when Gabe confronts Sean for "stealing" the name of his food truck. We can't both be On a Roll - only one may emerge victorious!
The tension between Sean and Gabe is THICK, and there's this fine line they toe where you are wondering - are they fighting, or flirting? (A bit of both, really!) As Sean's reasons for being unwilling to change the name of his food truck come to light, I really felt a lot of sympathy and understanding for him. And then there's Gabe, who just digs his heels in because he's stubborn with the excuse and attitude of "I'm Italian, what do you expect?" You'd think you'd start to see Gabe as the bad guy, but no. He's like a grade school boy pulling the hair of his crush to get their attention. And then when you find out that he's got -- well, I don't want to spoil anything, suffice to say it's DELICIOUS and I really wanted to just smoosh their faces together and go "Now kiss!"
This is the third book in the Food Truck Warriors series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Characters from the previous books show up in this one and may be some minor spoilers for those books. This book also provides some set up for book 4, Full Speed Ahead (which I CANNOT WAIT for!!)
MM – Food Trucks – Enemies to Lovers – Favorite of the Series
Two stubborn men, two foods trucks with the same name. I was excited to read Gabriel and Sean’s story and I was not disappointed. The push/pull between these two offers just the right amount of angst. Theirs is an enemy to lovers’ story which includes plenty of laughs, sexy times, and yummy food.
3.5 Stars - Sean and Gabe have hated each other since they first met. Sean showed up in the LA food truck scene with the same truck name that Gabe was using. Now that they are both parked in a lot together, customers are getting them mixed up and they are forced to come up with a solution. As they work together, they realize they might not hate each other as much as they think.
The first ¾ of the book were pretty blah for me. The characters seemed very flat, and the plot was a predictable enemies to lovers story. The last quarter of the book had some good conflict and angst, and I was finally able to connect with the characters. The last hour of reading was an emotional rollercoaster, taking me from laughing to crying and back again. We got to see the characters from the previous book, and there was a nice setup for the next and final book of the series. Overall, this was a light, if somewhat cliche, enemies to lovers story with a beautiful HEA
(I received a free ARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.)
Sean and Gabriel bring everything you’d ever want to an enemies-to-lovers pairing: snark, one-upmanship, and enough heat to burn down an entire row of food trucks, plus, of course some very real feelings underneath all the posturing, obliviousness, and denial. I loved watching Gabriel and Sean’s relationship shift and change, and my heart ached for both Gabriel and Sean-- Gabriel because he leads with his heart even when he knows he could get hurt, but for the most part keeps his optimism anyway, and Sean because he’s genuinely trying to be a good person, even as his past trauma blinds him to the possibilities of his current reality. There’s angst here to be sure, but there are also some incredibly sweet moments and lots of laughter and fun, especially with other members of the awesome, quirky, supportive and meddlesome food truck community. I love these guys, I adore the world they inhabit, and I’d highly recommend their story.
*An ARC was provided to me and I have chosen to publish a fair and honest review*
This is a must read, one-click author, for me. I’ve really been enjoying this series.
The characters overlap between books, but they can be read as a stand alone. However, know that you see the main characters in previous books, and some of the backstory is there. I feel like you get the full perspective reading them in order, BUT you can also get away without doing so. It’s totally up to you.
I loved the push and pull between Sean and Gabe (Gabriel) throughout the book. The barbs, the sincere talks, the banter, and then when things became more—it all kept me riveted to the book. They were captivating, as was the storyline.
Beth Bolden writes in such a way that you feel drawn into the story, as if these ARE your friends, and this IS your life. You could easily put yourself in the shoes of any of the characters. They are all dynamic and very relatable.
I cannot wait to see what’s in store for us next!
***I received a copy of this book for my reading pleasure. All thoughts and opinions are my own.***
This series is just so comforting, I really love it.
On A Roll takes a fairly simple premise: two food truck operators both end up with the same name and become enemies. What happens when they have to work together to find a solution?
I love it how Beth Bolden has made the solution so much more complex than just "One person gives up the name" and this whole back and forth between Sean and Gabriel creates a perfect tension that carries right through to the climax. Even as a reader, it's hard to say who should be the one to give in or what the solution should be.
I also enjoyed how neither MC seems like they really need too much character growth at the start of the book, but it still happens.
Perfect next installment in this series. Bring on Ash & Lennox. (And totally read the bonus scene linked at the end - Lennox is such a cranky pants, I can't wait!).
I received a copy of this book from the Neon Rainbow ARC group on Facebook and have chosen to leave an honest review.
Sean and Gabe really, really dislike each other-or do they? What starts as a turf war over their food truck names turns into way more than either of them bargained for. Gabe is a bright, outgoing and completely encompassing personality while Sean is more reserved. The sparks are there and many of their friends can see them but are they sparks of hate? of chemistry? of more? Sean has reasons for his truck name and his wariness of relationships and Gabe? He just wants it all but even HE doesn't realize how great he is, how talented, how amazing. I mean yeah, he is a tad arrogant. He knows he's beautiful and successful, but he doesn't know he is MORE. Sean wants to fulfill a dream and Gabe seems to be a fly in the ointment for him. Can these two see past the arguments and past pains to see a beautiful future? I laughed outloud alot and I swooned and teared up as well. A little of everything for this reader. (for the record, I am SOOOO curious about Ren's story lol).
This is the third book in the Food Truck Warriors series and this is the best one so far in my view. It’s a different dynamic than the prior books. Two obstinate men butting heads and failing to communicate, perpetuating the conflict. There are reasons for Gabe and Sean’s respective insistence on their food truck name (although I have to say, Sean’s reasons are more persuasive). This story is truly driven off of the stubborn, inexplicable refusal to communicate with each other, that became very frustrating. In true enemies-to-lovers fashion, what is initially a small conflict escalates into more; meanwhile their chemistry is obvious and the tension between them builds. Ultimately, they find their way through it but, wow, could they have made it easier on themselves along the way. Overall, it’s a sweet story with a touch of angst and a story trajectory that’s mainly predictable, but has a few twists to it that keeps it fresh. Oh and of course there’s lots of food!
