Anytime someone tries to sell you something (a product, an idea or a politician) on the basis that They Don't Want You To Know The Truth, it's a good bet that you're being scammed (a notorious example was Kevin Trudeau, the convicted fraudster who wrote a book about weight-loss "secrets" that They supposedly didn't want you to know.
Along comes Children's Health Defense, R.F.K. Jr.'s antivaccine pressure group, to reveal "35 Secrets" that They (government health officials, drug companies, epidemiologists, infectious disease experts, your family doctor etc.) are allegedly concealing for nefarious purposes. R.F.K. Jr. in the foreword comes right out and claims that officials promote vaccines _for the sole purpose of fattening industry profits_.
Sure...it can't possibly be that they're concerned with public health and have children of their own they worry about, it MUST be that they're plain evil.
This book has two major themes - that measles is basically nothing more than a harmless rash and the vaccine that prevents it does horrible things. Here's a "secret" that Children's Health Defense (CHD) left out of the book - that in the years leading up to introduction of measles vaccine, 400-500 deaths occurred in the U.S. annually, with millions dying around the world of the disease every year. A much greater number had to be hospitalized and suffered complications, some serious and permanent. Relaying this information to parents is, in the view of the mystery authors of this book, not information parents need to know when deciding whether to have their children protected by vaccination, but instead is whipping them up "into a frenzy of fear" (ironically, fearmongering is exactly what CHD is doing by grossly exaggerating potential side effects of vaccines).
That "harmless rash" is killing around 200,000 annually around the world these days, with incidence rates rising because vaccination rates have dropped during the Covid-19 pandemic.
CHD encourages parents to "do your research". Which you should - after wading through this collection of half-truths and outright fabrications, all of which is standard antivaccine boilerplate you can find online for free, consult dependable, evidence-based sources like the vaccine information center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Covid-19 and the spread of misinformation about life-saving vaccines has given the antivax movement overall a new lease on life. Don't let them buffalo you into leaving your children unprotected from dangerous infectious diseases like measles, polio, Hib meningitis and hepatitis A and B.
