Harper King is being hunted by the government. Her crime? Being a shape-shifting, half-raven woman.

And she’s not the only one they’re after.

Supernatural beings like Harper are arrested every day, a fate she’s dodged so far. But when a single miscalculation lands her in a Naturalization camp, she must choose: be Naturalized or be killed.

Between magical wards that imprison her at the camp and a rebellion brewing, can she find a way to escape before her wings or her life are taken from her?

In a few days, Tyson Miller will be charged with murder.

Today, he's just a human counselor at Camp Silver Lake. According to Tyson, his therapy makes all the difference for paranormals making the transition to Naturalized citizenship, even if it means encouraging them to give up their shifting abilities and powers.

But as he uncovers the dark history of Camp Silver Lake and the leaders' mental instability, he'll be forced to face a devastating truth:

He's been fighting for the wrong side all this time.

A dark tale of freedom, oppression, and rebellion against the wrongdoing, and the sacrifices needed to make.
Harper has been on the run for a long time, escaping the foster care and surviving under the radar, since as a paranormal, the laws against her species are harsh, even cruel. Nevertheless, she is captured and brought to Naturalization camp to be sort of rehabilitated and agree to go through surgery to look human. But she won't accept the terms and rules. She won't be willing to give up her wings. And she won't be forsaking herself, her essence, her soul, for an illusion of normalcy. No, Harper is Raven born, and she will stay true to her heritage.
The book was slow in the beginning, I took many breaks before continuing, but in the second half it gradually improved and by the end I got really intrigued to know what comes next. There were some small inconsistencies and errors, but nothing that would bother me too much while reading. I enjoyed the overall dark atmosphere of the story, and really liked some of the characters (sadly, Fletcher with his conflicts and worse than worst options was one of my favorites). I lacked connection to Tyson at first, but in the end I developed some, and something similar applies to Harper - her ever-present anger, naivety, and overall immature behavior drove me away from her at first, until I started to see her as a more complex character towards the end, with her mistakes and flaws, but also certain strengths. She might be misguided, under false impressions, or seething with righteous anger, but in the end she is only a lonely young woman who was too long on the run, without social contact, with her own issues and problems. I think if she grows into her potential I will like her very much :)

When I started reading Raven Born I wasn't expecting my heart to tremble.

This book was so good. The characters were wild and fun, but also serious. The subject of FREEDOM is important for these paranormals who have been shunned and feared by humans their whole lives. I think freedom is important for all of us, especially in the current times. Honestly, nothing is more important. I vibe with Harper a lot.

The twists and turns the story took were shocking. I couldnt believe how some of the characters would betray the others, just to get a good standing with the government. The witches running the paranormal camps are fascinating and a bit creepy. Not to mention them killing anyone who wont comply with the program. Crazy.

I wont spoil anything, but the ending, when Harper used the crystal to save the Silver Lake Camp, I was litteraly crying during that scene. I also cried for Fletcher. It was the good kind of crying when an author touches your soul with their story. Bree Moore did an amazing job.

If you love shapeshifters and action definitely dont pass up this book. Im adding the rest of the series to my TBR.

I received a copy from the author in return for an honest review. Thank you!

Just a few chapters in, it captivated me and I didn’t want to put it down. Whenever I wasn’t reading it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was such a fun read!

It felt very nostalgic for me feeling like a mixture of all the books I read when I was younger. Specifically being The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, and Maximum Ride. Especially Maximum Ride, though if I’m honest I only read the first book which I enjoyed but not enough to continue the series. Raven Born gave me lots of feels of Maximum Ride, but I enjoyed this so much more! And a more recent read being the Crave series, which I can see Raven Born being a big hit among Crave fans!

The premise had me intrigued as I follow Harper and got introduced to this world. These camps do have somewhat a normal “camp” vibe mixed boarding school vibe. The supernaturals attend classes and training on what it means to be Naturalized.

It’s the way the camp was set up that sort of reminded me of the Percy Jackson series, Just imagine a camp filled with vampires, werewolves, witches, and everything in between instead of demigods. And the classes they have to attend are what gave me the Crave vibes. Especially seeing the wide variety of paranormals similar to Crave.

And our main character, Harper gave me such strong Katniss vibes. Harper had such a strong and moody personality, she was very passionate about what should be fair for supernatural.

I think anyone who enjoys fantasy books featuring supernaturals and enjoyed books like Percy Jackson, Maximum Ride and Crave, will enjoy Raven Born!

For the love of ravens...

Wonderful urban shifter fantasy. Set in the picturesque Pacific northwest Harper finds herself interred at a "camp " for paranormals. Fighting for her life and not knowing who to trust. Looking forward to Harpers journey in her quest to be free.

This is an exciting and suspense filled story of a girl who is searching for her brother so they can try and find their parents. There is one twist to this “happy”
story- they are bird shifters and humans want to eliminate all paranormals! She is captured and against her will makes friends at the camp she is taken to. She discovers the future is not as rosy as she and the others are led to believe there and things take a dark turn when one of her friends dies. She decides on revenge against those who caused it but this results in a huge personal price she wasn’t aware of. The cliffhanger leads to the next book and I am excited to start reading it! Throughout this coming series the thought remains within me if somehow that “price” might be able to be changed?

That’s the allure and draw of a good well written book which catches one’s imagination- the little hooks the reader sees which pose the question “what if or can it be changed?”

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it wholeheartedly to readers of all ages who enjoy a great story! If you like stories about paranormals so much the better! But even if you don’t, when you see some people are treated badly it should make you stop and think! A great book also can make a reader pause and think about what he or she has just read and hopefully make a change in themselves if they find negative behavior displayed by others similar to their own. Books can change one’s life for
the better!

Get this book today and I think, like me, you’ll find yourself “ hooked” on Harper and her desire and determination to make things better for those like her who are paranormals and will be cheering her on to victory as the series progresses!

Bravo Bree for a great opening book in what promises to be an exciting series!

Raven Born is a fascinating urban fantasy novel about oppression, rebellion, freedom, and the fight for equality. Harper King is a raven shifter who was captured and imprisoned in a Naturalization camp while searching for her lost brother. In this world, humans have created a naturalization system that supernaturals as legally obligated to complete before becoming welcomed back into society. Those who don't complete naturalization are killed. In a world of limited choices, Harper stands as a strong rebellious character despite the pressure of those around her.

This story is also told from the point of view of Tyson Miller, whose point of view more often than not annoyed me. In my opinion, he has some toxic views of his impact as a camp counselor and about the general goodness of the camp and its purpose. That being said, his point of view was an essential part of the novel's plot. My biggest issue with Tyson is that he rarely considered the consequences of his actions, or maybe he underestimated the consequences. He took too many people at face value for someone who studied long and spent several years on the job. I often found myself anxiously waiting to get back to Haper's perspective, even with the occasional shift between third and first-person point-of-view.

My favorite part of this novel was the incredible world-building. It wasn't difficult creating a mental picture of this world, and as a reader, it was clear on their rules, laws, and moral expectations. I'll definitely read more from BreeMoore.

Raven Born is a new adult urban fantasy story about a shifter, Harper, who has raven wings. She is forced into a naturalization camp in order to force her to fit into human society so that the government can control her so that she isn’t seen as a threat to humans. But Harper refuses to be naturalized and instead searches for a way to escape the camp.

There was a lot of great things about Raven Born to enjoy! First off, the main character, Harper is an awesome, badass, native american female. The character development was well done and the story had enough twists and turns to keep it moving through the whole book. The climax was definitely satisfying and leaves you wanting to find out what happens next.

The love story wasn’t in your face which I tend to like, although I feel like the two protagonists really didn’t spend enough time together to really develop that deep of a relationship. But it is clear they will have time to develop their relationship in future books.

There were several occasions where the the book switched into first person or present tense randomly. These little things done several times tended to throw me out of the story.

I loved the two main characters! They were very relatable and I found the plot intriguing and it kept me entertained through the book. I really enjoyed reading it!

If you are into new adult urban fantasy with a great, strong female protagonist, check out Raven Born!

Raven Born is a very interesting urban fantasy novel based on the supernatural character “Harper King” which was raven wings. The world doesn’t look upon such characters in a good way. The human world has created a system that ensures that supernaturals are legally obliged to go through a “naturalisation” process before they can enter society.

She managed escaping it for a long time, until one day when she was held captive. She met Tyson at her facility who is her facility counsellor.

I am not gonna give spoilers as the
Story is spectacular, read out this book to find answers to the questions arising in your mind-

? How was Tyson helping her in the program
? How does she manages to survive in naturalisation facility.
? Will harper king be able to escape untransformed staying as in her original form?

The story was totally unpredictable, deeply engaging and heart-breaking throughout. Especially at the end. Raven Born is a book that will keep to attached to the book even if you close the back page and leave a impact on your mind.

This book has been very skilfully written and I can’t express how excited I am that I have to read the upcoming sequel. Author’s writing style is very classy and she kept the reader hooked with well paced narratives.
I recommend this to all who love urban fantasy books. It is an amazing read♥️

This book was such a great introduction to a great new urban fantasy world.

Moore started things off with an action-packed bang as the main character, Harper tries to flee from paranormal hunters and instead ends up caught and brought to a "rehabilitation" camp. Surrounded by other paranormals and able to be her true self for the first time, Harper finds herself greatly conflicted as she struggles to balance that feeling against the injustices she sees as her new friends are forced to change themselves to make the humans of their world more comfortable. It is soon revealed to Harper, that like the only other bird shifter there that Harper would have to sacrifice her Raven wings to "rehabilitate" and leave the camp.

Unable to even consider this choice, Harper finds herself drawn into a scheme to shift the power dynamic in the camp. Meanwhile, the brother she'd been trying to locate for years, has reemerged, and there's hope they may be able to reunite and trace their roots back to Alaska...

Full of emotion, action scenes, and the barest hint of romance, Moore's alternate world drew me in completely. I felt Harper's frustrations at the injustice of her threatened existence. The hope when she saw her brother again for the first time. The shock and horror when she loses a close friend. The awe as both Harper and those around her realized exactly how strong her paranormal powers might actually be...

I am very much looking forward to reading the next book and seeing where Harper's journey takes us readers.

Raven Born by Bree More is a dark fantasy tale that takes the reader on journey of epic proportions. We follow Harper King as she searches for her brother while being imprisoned all the while fighting for her own life and safety. There are so many things thrown at this character, but she perseveres through it all and comes out stronger in the end.
Bree More does a wonderful job of showing a world full of oppression, but with the hope of rebellion and the fighting spirit you find yourself rooting for a better outcome and a better life for the supernatural inhabitants. The writing style flowed well and kept a steady pace without much lag along the way. I found the characters to be well rounded and interesting making it easier to connect with them and stay invested throughout the story.
I would recommend this story for anyone who loves an urban fantasy with a strong female lead that has a lot of heart and fighting spirit!

Wow

Tyson, Harper, and the rest of the crew make for a beautifully blended crew of creations I wish I could crawl into this world and befriend. I'm pretty sure I know an unresolved detail and saw it coming. It didn't stop the tears though. How am I supposed to put down my Kindle and sleep after this??

Small notes, one typo that pulled me out of the story and a couple of formatting errors. If it's going to make you pitch a fit, there's your warning. It didn't spoil anything for me though.

What I liked? So much. There was surprisingly a lot of depth to this book and it really challenged me to think and consider both sides presented. Bree Moore makes you truly invest your feelings into this group of human and paranormal beings. She also does an incredible job of messing with your head. Who is a safe person? Who isn't? Who can you trust?

This is a definite recommended read.

Raven shifter Harper grew up in state custody with her brother after her parents disappeared. On the run, trying to find her brother, Harper is captured and sent to an internment camp for supernatural creatures. She is confronted with the need to adjust to the demands of this dystopian society and either lose her life or her wings.

Characters are quite well drawn, with main characters Harper, Tristan and Fletcher being quite engaging. Harper is intelligent, rebellious and caring, trapped in a really bad situation, and struggling to find a way through it.

As much as I would like to assert that discovery of paranormal creatures wouldn't result in internment and executions, history teaches us otherwise. Unfortunately, the dark nature of this novel fits in precisely with human nature.

Although in some ways this novel was an uncomfortable read with disturbing themes, nonetheless I enjoyed it very much, and look forward to reading the sequels. Definitely five stars.

This was a pretty good book but I had a few issues. First of all, the shifting back and forth from first and third person made it feel really unpolished. I am not sure if this is a debut novel, but many of the mistakes and plot inconsistencies lead me to belief that it may be. There were multiple typos as well, though I normally overlook those when reviewing unless it heavily distracts from story. The pacing of this story was pretty slow at the beginning. However, it did get better throughout the story. Some of the relationships between characters felt a bit forced and the writing awkward at times. I would have liked to see more character dynamic and development. I actually liked the secondary characters better than the main characters. The latter half of the story at least had me wanting to know what happened enough to continue reading, so the plot scored some points back.

So I didn’t know what to expect when I started this but can I just say OMG is was so so good and I just couldn’t put it down. The world building is incredible and so descriptive that you feel as though you are actually there along side our extraordinary characters on this amazing journey. Harper our female mc is strong, loyal and rebellious and is a Raven shifter which is not legal in this world. Hoping to go north to find more of her kind when she is captured and sent to a camp for paranormal illegals. It’s an exciting and enthralling read as we see Harper try to escape this awful place that’s trying to normalise these supernatural beings to fit into the” normal world” with heartbreaking results. Intense, riveting, this has me from the get go and now I’m off to read book two!

Caught me and kept hold of me!

This is an exciting book with a great deal of emotion and tension! The characters are written well, to the point that I have very distinct feelings about most every major character. What helps with that is the detail woven into the story and into character interactions. There are a couple of characters that I truly dislike, and it gives the book more excitement!

This has a really good, entertaining story. Hopefully, you'll get as much enjoyment from it as I do.

My goodness. What a fantastic read.

Such an emotional book in Harper’s tumultuous journey from a secret shifter to trying to survive a special camp to condition her and others with “ special gifts”, like werewolves, vampires and witches.
It was emotional because we shared one of her friends “ conditioning/ conversion to normality with tragic results.
I literally could not put this book down and finished reading at half past midnight, it was that intense.

So overwhelming but in a good way. Wholeheartedly recommended this.

this is my first book by Bree and it won’t be my last. This a great start to a new series, I was hooked from the first page. This book is well written with a great plotline that just flows from the pages. I went on a roller coaster of emotions with this book. Such heart breaking moments. I love the character development throughout this book and how Harper will do anything to help her brother and friends - even if she doesn’t like it. I cannot wait for the next book.

not for me- supernaturals that get their powers removed

Supernaturals are out in camps to strip them if their powers and witches go along with this. I love most paranormal and anything fantasy related but didn’t care for the plot line in this one.

No interest in Tyrone at all as he and everyone on staff is pure evil - the witch is evil to for

Uncontrolled supernatural powers are against a recently passed law. Supernaturals are captured and placed in training camps to teach them to act like normal people. Unfortunately for Harper she is a raven shapeshifter and winged shapeshifters have to have their wings cut off to blend in.
Not a bad story, but it feels like a magic academy. Not my cup of tea

This is not my usual genre and I expected to not like it. I was surprised to find it captivating with elements of suppression, prejudice, cruel oppression, greed and ambition, with a touch of romance. It was hard to put down. The characters have deep fears and paranoia, as one would expect in such a setting but still retain their humanity. This was an ARC I voluntarily read and reviewed.

This was an interesting read. The angst of the main character, Harper. being caught in a world that wars with her internal feelings about the world were an intriguing spark in the storyline. Very action-packed and full of drama. Very entertaining!

Raven Born, the first book of the Lost Souls series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Very interesting world building added more complexity than I'd anticipated. With plenty of action and a good plot, I sailed right through the book in one sitting.

Fallible characters

These characters have bite and edges so sharp they bleed across the pages. Desires, needs, mistakes, missteps and regrets - they are all showcased here, making these fantastical characters somehow more real than the mundane humans we often read about.

Decent read

I like that there's some mythos that involves indigenous legend vs the overly rehashed Eurocentric mythos many books use. The characters could've really used with a lot for fleshing out and the mystery about Fletcher should've at least given hints if not answered

This story was fast paced and quite interesting. We can see that the series will keep us guessing and hopefully come to a good conclusion. The government as portrayed in this story was quite detestable. We can only hope that some good changes can be made.
