The Enneagram is an ancient personality typology using nine points within a circle to represent nine distinct personality types. This sixty-day devotional is for the Enthusiast, number 7 of the Enneagram personality types. This book will help Enthusiasts, and those who love them, better understand how God created them and how best to use their unique gifts to serve Him and love others. It features a full explanation of what the Enneagram is and how it benefits people, followed by a full description of what it means to be a 7, including the Enthusiast’s deadly sin and their greatest strength. Some attributes of the Enthusiast:
Motivation: To be satisfied. This leads to Sevens pursuing the things they think will bring them happiness and true satisfaction in life.
Biggest Fear: Sevens fear being deprived or in pain. They avoid negative emotions as much as possible.
Head Triad: Sevens, along with Fives and Sixes, receive all information as something that needs to be thought over and analyzed before they can trust their feelings or gut to process it. Sevens take information in as something to analyze, and then they move on to feeling. The sixty days of this devotional are split into six 10-day topics that include uniqueness, weakness, strength, pain points, and how Enthusiasts react in times of stress and growth.
This is a decent devotional with good insights, encouragement, and growth challenges for Sevens. That said, I only gave it three stars due to the execution. The book actually has two different writers contributing to the daily readings. While both are good, insightful writers—each is unique. Many of the book’s audience may not have an issue with this from a reading standpoint, but for me, it made it tough to fully grasp the book’s voice and tone. Overall, still a very good devotional if you are a Seven and looking for specific ways God has wired you along with where your strengths and growth opportunities lie.
4.5/5. One of my new favorite devotionals! I thought I knew a decent amount about my enneagram number, but I learned so much about my tendencies as a seven. Especially in times of stress and going towards a one. Binge cleaning? Blaming myself for every problem? Who knew!!! Loved and will probably read other numbers from this series.
I was hoping to learn more about my unique wiring as an Enneagram 7. This book did not disappoint. I loved learning about the ways my personality reflects God’s character. That was a new thought for me. I also appreciate how the book dealt with the Enneagram 7 in stress. It was gentle yet thought-provoking. The list of helpful things to watch for is going to be very beneficial. I feel stronger as a 7 than I did before going through this book. One of my favorite quotes is, “When I numb myself to negative emotions - and attempt to do the same thing for the people around me - I actually start to chip away at the opportunity to experience the fullness of the joy of restoration later.” I need the reminder to stop and feel all the feelings - especially the negative ones. The appreciation for everything that 7s bring into the world is evident in every page. And it feels really nice to be appreciated for more than just the laughs at the party. I’d recommend this book to any Ennegram 7 who wants to further appreciate their unique wiring and to be encouraged to work on our innate weaknesses. The call to spend more time with God to become more like Him is exactly what I needed.
One of the things I love about the enneagram is the way it gives us insight into the reasons behind what we do and how we think. But self-awareness can only take us so far. If we’re not growing and steadily moving towards a healthier, holier life then it really doesn’t matter how well we understand ourselves! We’re still stuck.
This Enneagram devotional is a fantastic resource for moving forward. The author, Elizabeth Bennett has done a fabulous job of clearly leading us through an understanding of how we as Enneagram Sevens are hard-wired, how we uniquely reflect the image of God, our inherent weaknesses, and our strengths. But from each point of understanding she (& contributor Molly Wilcox) takes us further, pointing us to Jesus and teaching us through Scripture how we can grow and be sanctified (to use the Christian word) as our Enthusiast selves.
With this devotional, you get to spend 60 days being intentional about seeing yourself as you are and allowing God to lead you forward and transform you into all you can be.
(I received an advance copy of this book to review)
What a help this book is for those who want to use the enneagram as a tool for introspection and growth. So many books/podcasts will give you an overview of the Enneagram but Elisabeth’s devotional guides you to dig deep into your motivations and behaviors. Her Instagram account @enneagramlife is already where I send my friends for Ennea 101 and these devotionals will be a great gift and tool for anyone interested in going deeper. As a social 7w8 (the countertype) general information on type 7’s don’t always resonate but this 90 day devotional is laid out in a way that brings reflection and insight for any 7 subtype.
Elisabeth is such a lovely guide through growth over this 60 day journey specifically designed for enneagram 7s. Personally, as an enneagram 7 I felt incredibly seen and known and LOVED the suggestions to take action and for further reflection throughout the book. I was SO honored to contribute devos to the enneagram 7 devotional. Even as someone who is very familiar with the enneagram, I felt like this book provided opportunity for deeper knowledge and reflection. Yet, it’s still approachable and a great place to start for those who are just beginning in their knowledge of the enneagram. Can’t recommend it enough!!!
This first thing I thought to write was-it was super fun to have a devotional geared to my personality. Of course, fun is the highest praise from me. There are readings on 6 different topics including joy, long-suffering, spinning (oh yeah), growth, and stress. Often when I read devotionals I feel like about half don't really apply to me, but with this one it was about 95% something that I deal with/need to hear. I am definitely going to go through it again in the future and suggest others read their 7 as well.
As an Enneagram 7, I learned a lot about myself that I didn't know before, but most importantly realized traits about myself that I don't focus on enough. The book didn't just talk about my specific enneagram, but how my enneagram number interacts with the other enneagrams. I really enjoyed this book and it helped me to grow in my identity.
There is much insight and many good action steps in this book. No matter how much of the Enneagram you have studied, this book will reach you. I was surprised at the spiritual depth it held. This particular one was for Type 7; it was everything my heart and mind needed to explore.
Overall I think this is a good idea decently executed. I liked one of the authors better than the other; mostly because one seems more spiritually mature than the other and had some more thought-provoking insights.
I honestly wonder if these are a little better suited to a teen than someone in their 30s. The issues raised, and the way they’re discussed, don’t go quite deep enough to address more adult heart struggles. But I bet this devo would be very encouraging to a teenager who resonates as a seven and is exploring how to apply their faith to those tendencies.
