This set includes all five books of an internationally bestselling young adult epic fantasy with a slow-burn romance!
The world will drown beneath the waves…only the last mage can stop it.
Vahly, the last mage, is the world’s biggest disappointment. Raised by the dragons, she was born to become the magical Earth Queen, the only one who can stop the Sea Queen’s mad plan to drown everything in existence.
But there’s one problem: Vahly possesses no magic whatsoever.
The oceans begin to rise, limiting the dragons’ hunting grounds and fouling their water supply, endangering their very home. Vahly can’t let the dragons she calls family die under the Sea Queen’s magic, so as a last hope, she journeys to a legendary arcane library in search of answers.
When she discovers an ancient scroll about a ritual conducted deep in the homeland of the elves, she gathers her dragon allies to find the king of that great, forest-dwelling race.
Before she reaches that kingdom, she finds a handsome elven royal cloaked in dark magic, twisted and powerful. Arcturus. His memory has holes he can’t explain, and when they learn his king is in league with the Sea Queen, Vahly and Arcturus must band together to defeat the elven king and to gain access to the secrets of Vahly’s unique magic before the ocean swallows the dragons’ homeland.

***written in the same world as Enchanting the Elven Mage, Kingdoms of Lore Book One, but readers can begin with this series
I started this and was pulled in. It had an interesting story. I got sucked in and read the first 4 books. By the end of the 2nd book I realized this was not going to end how I wanted or even be written how I like. The love story for instance was lackluster. The action was fun but got a little redundant. By the end of the 4th book I was just done with so many people dying. This is a book of peoples at war but geezzzz. There were some plot holes and just some irritating things so I won't finish. This is a young adult book. It would be a PG movie without all the death that is not too detailed.
This series is simply amazing and one that can be read time and time again. I had to wait for each book to come out but now released in one boxset you can read at your pleasure and you will be hooked from the very start. It’s an exciting epic fantasy with a slow burn romance running throughout and with awesome characters , dragons, elves, gryphons, sword and sorcery, humour and romance! All of this set in an incredible world built by this author and one you will love to travel to. A truly magical journey filled with twists and turns and an fantastic storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat until you come back up for air!
This is such an amazing fantasy series! Dragons, elves, sea people and humans all come together to weave this wonderful tale. The dragon queen saved the last human child when the sea people flooded the earth. She raised her among dragons and that was all Vahly knew. The sea people start flooding the world again and Vahly knows she can't just stand by and let it happen. She goes on an adventure and picks up friends along the way. A dragon with no clan, an elf with amnesia, and a surprise familiar. She finds out that she is the last remaining Earth Queen and must bring balance back to the world. She must work with all beings of high magic to balance the magic. Can she do it? With the help of her new friends and allies, she just might pull it off.
This is a truly engrossing series. The world building is detailed and rich. The characters are fantastic. The romance is wonderful and heartwarming. The action is intense. One of my favorite parts is the unexpected nature of creatures that you think you know. When I first started reading it, I thought Sea Kynd would be regular merfolk. These are so much more. I adore stories with Dragon Shifters, but these shifters are nothing like any others I have read before. Their differences set this world apart from others in this genre. Ms Klapheke just proves again what a fantastically talented author she is as she sucks you into this land of Sugarrabota and all its kynds.
This is such a good series! It can easily be read as one long, continuous book with a prologue.
It's a tale of adventure and magic set in the same world as Alisha Klapheke's Enchanting the Elven Mage and Kingdoms of Lore series but I can attest that it can be read without reading either.
Despite being 5 books long, the series is still under a thousand pages but has more world-building than some series 2 and 3 times as long. I really enjoyed Vahly, Arcturus, and Nyx's characters and was intrigued by every encounter with the Sea Kynd. It added extra depth to experience the story unfolding from both Vahly and the Sea Kynd's points of view also.
If you enjoy bingeing a series, this is one is very bingeable!
Fabulous series! I couldn't put it down. Lots of action, clean romance ... Vahly is the last human ... destined to be an Earth Mage and to defeat the Sea Queen. Will she come into her own? Will the dragons help her? The elves? Can she bind the races together, to fight the Sea Queen? I received a free copy of these books with no obligation.
These books were, good, don't get me wrong, but they weren't "great". By the time I got to book 3 I was ready for it to end, I felt like we kept it going and going and going in order to have more books. I didn't read the last book. Sorry. The story ended and I was glad with an ending. I also wish the MC and her hero had more connection. They just interacted normally and she often wonder about things because the was her first man that wasn't a dragon. And then suddenly they are talking about loving one another....? Some time spent on their romantic build up would have made their characters connect better I think. Not just hey I want to kiss him/her, but dialog that would build it better. It may help you invest more in the characters. All in all it was a clean fantasy (which can be hard to find!) and an interesting story, if a bit long. The characters themselves were interesting, but I never really connected with them if you know what I mean? Oh so and so dies...eh....But it was worth the read.
So I have read all five books in this amazing series and have reviewed each one individually but I think readers still to read this series are very lucky to be able to buy the whole set in the newly launched box set as now they can binge read to their hearts' content. So the human race have all been wiped out from the island of Sugarrabota by the sea folk, except for one little girl who was saved by Amona, the dragon matriarch herself and brought up by the Lapis dragon clan. Turned out that this girl, Valhi, was Blackwater marked, which meant that she was to become an Earth Queen, however she grew into a young woman but never came into her powers and the clock was ticking for the dragons and elves who were still battling the sea folk. Astraea the sea folk queen was ruthless and wanted to wipe all land life from the earth and fill it up with sea water for the sea folks use and because different dragon clans fought amongst themselves and both clans hated the elves the sea queen seemed to be all powerful. However, Vahli decided it was high time she sought out how to gain her powers and do her job to save those who had looked after her throughout her life, the only family she ever knew, her dragons whose fate was now in her hands!! A tale full of suspense and a fight of good against evil and the courage of a young woman and her team of friends namely Arc and Nix, an elf and a dragon respectively, who are to join her on her quest to come into her powers no matter what! Brilliant from start to finish, and I really did not want the book to end at all. There be dragons and monsters from the deep sea and courageous heroes to save the day. Enjoy I know I did!
I loved every minute and I never once felt like I wanted to skip ahead or stop reading. The story flowed extremely well and every moment was thoroughly thought out. The detail within the vast world was incredible. Every scene, every character introduced had a part to play, whether good or back. I am extremely impressed with this series and there honestly isn’t a lot I can say against it.
I think my favourite part is right at the end. I wasn’t expecting for Alisha to end it in a full circle kind of way but the last line finished the loop. With multiple story lines and intricate plot developments, the ending was what the character wanted all along. And the amazing part is that you forget that want through out the series because of all the action and new characters and when that final line comes.. just the pure bliss I felt when I read that line. It was something I never knew I needed and it was perfect.
I can’t say thank you enough to Alisha for allowing me the pleasure of reading these books. I can’t wait for the many more to come.
I absolutely enjoyed this! The world building is cool. Fun take on elemental magic. Each is tied to a different magical being. 🌱- Humans 🌊 - Sea Folk 🌪- Elves 🔥 - Dragons Multiple POVs throughout. Plenty of action. Romance. A Quest. Mystery. Laughs. Happily Ever After.
Narrator did a great job. She doesn't have a huge range of voices but she definitely differentiates between characters.
📚 Some Quotes: Once again his presence hit Vahly like a strong drink. . Leaning on the nearest tree, Vahly sucked in deep breaths. "Are you stopping because I'm about to fall on my face or because you actually need to track?" His mouth twitched. "A little bit of both." . Nix snorted. "If you lads don't stop clucking the Jade's are going to think we brought a cart of chickens, and you'll be supper before they stop to realize who they're eating."
Finally the series is in one box set so it is easy to read all the books at once with no excuse to stop and find the next one. It is the story of Vahly a human raised by dragons who discovers amazing things about herself as she fights to save her adopted people. Along the way she finds danger, adventure, mages, magic, elves, friends, enemies. and a strong inner will to survive it all. It made me laugh, groan, moan and scream but it was widely entertaining and fun to read. Never quite knew what would happen next and what Vahly would do either. It all starts with a simple quest that turns into an amazing story.
I read each of the books in Alisha Klapheke’s Dragons Rising as it was released. It’s a series that definitely deserves to be lauded as epic, with all the ingredients one would want in a fantasy series cooked with superb writing with excitingly delicious results. I reviewed each book separately and, other than being grumpy with a cliff hanger in one, was happy to rate each 5 stars. The Complete Series deserves at least that as there’s no waiting between books (so no grumpiness over that cliffie). The only real downside is that this is addictive stuff that’s hard to put down between books, but I’m still more than happy to rate the set as 5 stars-worthy and highly recommend it.
I read the entire series in about a week. A little romance, a lot of heart and non stop adventure. Some books leave you wanting more and if you read this series first then you must continue to Kingdoms of Lore. I read the first 2 books of Kingdoms of Lore before reading Dragons Rising so for me this left a sense of completion. I now know how it all started and it is truly a beautiful story. My one question to the author, will you write a book about the creation of the matchmaker and her castle? I would love to know who is involved in that. (For those reading this question it regards something that happens in a time between the 2 series)
A truly enjoyable series for dragon lovers! I can’t remember if I got this book for free as part of having access to the Audible catalog but I’m glad I took a chance on this series. I love Catlin as a narrator and that is probably what pushed my decision to listen to this book series Another reason I wanted to try this book series is because it is offered as one complete series and I got to listen in one go I wish they offered more series as a set. This book series is partly about dragons but I think it is more about the last human left alive and how she is going to save her world. A really excellent read\listen cc
I love this series so much! It’s such a great read for young adults, but really for anyone. The world building is excellent and the characters are so real! I’ll admit that it took me a little bit to get into the first book, since I had trouble connecting with Vahly, the main character, but once I got to know her, she grew on me and soon I loved her! I really enjoyed the slow burn romance and all the adventure along the way. I highly recommend this series and now it’s in a box set so it’s so easy to read the whole thing!
I was transfixed with this tale of twists and transformations! Reading is a passion of mine and the characters in this series became dear friends as I soared and drowned into their adventures. Many of my days were devoted to the developing relationships devised by the author, as I was never bored. Though I lost sleep, I did not want this story to end and am eager to begin any other masterpiece created by this author. Thank you Alisha, for sharing your tremendous gift! Cynthia J.
I loved being able to read all the books at once in this boxset. I found it convenient that when I finished one book I could go straight to the next. It helped with the flow of the story and I was able to remember important details better. The author created some great characters in the form of Vahly and her group. There were also some characters like the sea queen who were detestable throughout the whole story. The worldbuilding was fantastic! This series was a rollercoaster of sad and happy moments and was very hard to put down.
I loved this series. There was constant action and the romance was fun and flirty, without going into seedy details. I would definitely reread this series again because it was so much fun to read. Alisha has become one of my favorite authors. You can’t find many that can write about elves and romance without making it pornographic. Thank you, Alisha! I didn’t have to skip a single page. The story was riveting. I loved how the Elf King and the Earth Queen, along with certain dragons created special magic working together.
As the kingdom of lore. If I hadn’t first tried that and then stopped because I could not get a handle on the characters or the rushed story telling.
This series however was well thought out and enjoyable to read. I liked the characters and appreciated the different viewpoints. It evoked real emotion.
3.5 stars because I thought it could have ended 200 pages before it finally did. Still a worthy read.
What a collection of stories that have you lost in the fantasy world. Vahly is supposed to have magical powers to save everything. Unfortunately she doesn’t seem to possess any. If she can’t save everything, all will be lost. Loads of action and different creatures that I have never encountered. Superb.
Vahly was rescued from certain death as a baby and raised by the awesome dragons. She always felt like she was lacking compared to everyone else. She soon realizes that is not the case. Between meeting her lifemate, being captured by the sea queen and being rescued she grows into a leader that will bring the dragons full circle.
she not only brings the dragons full circle she aids the sea folk into a new reign and marries her mate and has a loving family. After 100 years of fairly smooth life, she loses her dragon mother, yet has a full house with her children. After the crisis with the sea folk appearing on land and being sick. Vahly and her allies must and do find the remedy to assist the seafolk. The dragon kind is not so lucky. They are unable to change or to communicate through mind talk. Her own husband and children have even shown signs evolving. Yet in the end they all have each other and will live on for more adventures.
While I found the first book to be the best, I enjoyed the entire saga. Since book two ends with a cliffhanger and book three and four run seamlessly to complete the original quest, I suggest getting the entire collection rather than a book at a time. I’ve found a new fantasy author and that is always a good thing.
This series was so enchanting! The world building was amazing and I loved seeing both sides of the conflict throughout the series. I also really enjoyed that while there was romance, it didn't take over the entire story. The characters were easy to connect with and fun to get to know.
I absolutely love this series! That fact it’s now in a box set makes it that much more better. Trust me, you’re going to be happy too! I was hooked from the very start with this world & I completely fell in love with these characters. I recommend that you read these as soon as you can.
Daringly magical! I loved it! I really enjoyed this new fantasy world with dragons, elves, humans and sea people. Full of danger, mystery and suspense I couldn’t put this book down.
If you're looking for great world building, action, romance, and magic, this is the series for you! There is no waiting for each book to come out - it's now complete and in a box set!
I really enjoyed reading these and look forward to more from Alisha!
I enjoyed reading all five books in this series, but I'm going to have to say book 3 was my favourite. Nonetheless, if you are looking for an action packed epic fantasy series with dragons, sea folk, Griffins, and other fantastical creatures, I would highly recommend this series.
Full of adventure. Lots different races including elves, dragons and sea folk. Sometimes all hope seems lost and then things turn around, only to charge into another disaster!
I enjoyed reading Alisha Klapheke's Dragon Rising series. I was a bit perplexed at times with what appeared to me as overuse of magic, but overall Dragons Rising was an interesting and entertaining tale.
An interesting story with much magic. Told with a good bit of imagination. I can not imagine how the author came up with this story. But this is the only one of her tales that I have read.
