Let’s face it, reality is … not great right now. In my stories, love conquers all, my heroes always save the day, and consent is super-sexy. My characters aren’t just names on the page. They’re the friends you wish you had, the lovers you dream about, and the villains you love to hate.
I’m a literary chameleon. One day I’m crafting suspenseful mysteries that will keep you turning pages all night. The next, I’m whisking you away to otherworldly realms where magic is real and every girl gets her dragon. No matter where the story takes us, a happy ending, and a healthy dose of steam, is always guaranteed.

Oh my, what an absolute feast for the mind this book is. The story picks up a few months after where book #1 ends, using in medias res as an opener. Different supernatural factions are at one another's throats and they are all expecting Tsara to solve their problems, she is just trying to survive from one day to the next. The twisty plot rattles along at a good clip, barely slowing enough to allow one to draw breath.
We meet lots of new characters as the storyline unfolds. The good, the bad and the ugly (at least they are when in their demonic form) who add depth and colour to the story. We also see the return of the deliciously demonic and utterly so-bad-he's-irresistible perfection that is Jou. If you thought the chemistry between him and Tsara was hot in Neon Blue, it is absolutely scorching in this book. Both characters have undergone considerable change in their time apart, allowing them to quickly reach a new level of understanding with Tsara accepting Jou for who and what he is whilst Jou is more open, more honest with her.
What initially seems to be a puzzling but low key mystery soon turns out to be anything but. The author cleverly takes seemingly trivial events and layers them over and around one another until a shocking picture emerges and the truth is revealed. Between the clever plot and the intense interactions between our two protagonists, I was held transfixed. The book had me running the gamut of emotions, totally bewitched by Jou and Tsara.
The author has an unusual approach of mentioning characters and events as though we are already familiar with them. In general, I liked this approach, much preferring it to those dreaded info dumps. There were times when I was thrown from the story a little as I needed more information to fully understand the situation and once or twice I wanted to have seen that initial meeting or event, for example, the first time Tsara met Nicole. On balance, this was a very minor irritation in what is an overall wonderful read.
First of all if you have not read Neon Blue (Demonsongs, #1) put this down and go and read the first book of this most excellent Demonsongs series.
So If you have read Neon Blue you will recongnize the two Main Characters in the series: Tsara the Elemental Witch and Jou her Demon lover from Dis.
I think these two characters are wonderful togeher and there is such amazing chemistry and it has so much 🔥 it is amazing.
I love the many scenes in which Tsara does some kind of Elemental Magic, these scenes are just amazingly well written, I am familiar with Magic to a degree and everything about EJ Frost's depictions of magic are really execellent and in line with what I was already familiar with. Her descriptions are so very vivid and so you see everything in your mind so very clearly and it is amazingly well written.
Tsara and Jou have more than a few really good and 🔥 scenes that I am pretty sure that you will enjoy as much as I did. EJ Frost does an amazing job writing these scenes.
One of the many scenes in the book that was not exactly a sexy secene, but was quite memorable nonetheless was where Tsara dances with the Wild Fae in the forest.
There are many references to Ice Cream and some in particular to Ben and Jerry's and Häagen-Dazs and I liked them as I happen to love ice cream as much as Tsara's Salamanders, and her Salamanders are so very cute. They add a sort of sweetness to the story as well.
There is also a reference to Monty Python and their Life of Brian, which I found amusing., it is a little bit of humour in a story that is rather dark in places as a number of characters in the story die. None of the deaths are graphic as their deaths are not on the page, but their bodies are found aferward and thus there is a mystery which is resolved in a quite wonderful way.
The solving of the mystery of the deaths leads to a very climactic conclusion to the whole story and I am not going to tell you about the conclusion nor am I going to tell you about the deaths other than they are central to the plot.
I am going to say that I dearly loved the descriptions of the climactic events in the conclusion and that I was very satisfied with the ending.
I am not certain whether EJ Frost plans to write a Demonsongs #3 or not, but if she does write it, I would love to read more of Tsara and Jou.
I read the ARC that I was given and this review is based on that, I really doubt that there will be any changes though, since I did not find any errors or typos so EJ Frost and her Editor/Proofreader or what have you have done an excellent job of catching errors. Which is a nice change as so many otherwise great books have errors, but hey not this one.
I am sure that you will love this book if you like great Paranormal Romances with a lot of 🔥.
Tsara and Jou's story was hard to get out of my mind after the first book, and I am really sure that they are going to be even harder now.
Tsara is having a hard time after the events in the end of the last book. It's been a hard few months for her, and they aren't getting better. Then she calls Jou back, and things change.
The chemistry between Tsara and Jou is even more intense than the last book. I think they are both more comfortable with who the other is and what they want out of this relationship.
Wow, this book was fascinating! And the ending was in-cre-di-ble. But let's back up, I was so sad to see several characters die including my favorite character. Sadness. My favorite quote comes from this loss: "...a protector, a symbol of all that is still right in the world. His falling makes the world that little bit darker." (I'm getting teary-eyed reading that again.) My favorite parts were the dance of the wild fae - that scene was so descriptive! - and the battle. I reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Loved this story, but girl you better not make us wait as long for the next one! I can't wait to find out how you get out of this pickle! If you haven't read Neon Blue and Blood Yellow get off your bottom and read these books!
The second book in the series, this is a continuation of Tsara's journey and growth, both with and without her demon lover, Jou. Her despair before reuniting with Jou is so palpable, but she never let her shredded personal loss stop her from reaching out to help and give of herself through that. I honestly love her as a heroine.
Jou himself is an absolutely luscious hero, not just physically, but in charisma, and power. The dichotomy between his vicious ruthlessness and him playing Frankenstein's monster for a little girl at a children's museum made him irresistible.
The book is filled to the brim with a plot involving trying to figure out what happened to a young shifter who was attacked and killed in book one (Neon Blue), the leaps in growth of Tsara's powers and the fallout occurring around the sudden appearance of members of Jou's family. The world building is simultaneously grounded and fantastical, making this a rich reading experience without ever skimping on the romance.
How the book ends makes me believe that there is more to Tsara and Jou's story....at least I hope so because I am not ready to leave them.
It took me a while to finish this book, but not because I didn't enjoy it. Quite the opposite. I simply didn't want the story to end. I devoured Neon Blue years ago and Ms. Frost (yeah, that's you, missy) left us hanging for what felt like the same eternity Jou spent impaled. Not cool.
So, this time, I prolonged it just a bit longer. This is by far one of my favorite stories written by EJ. I don't know what it is about Jou that just makes him the perfect demon/monster hero, but I can't get enough of him...in human or demon form. Jou and Tsara just go so well together and add the author's ability to wrap you in her world like a warm blanket and it's magic.
It's not a fast read. There are a ton of details and everything is important, so take your time with this story. Plus make sure you read Neon Blue or you will be lost. For those of us familiar with the characters, it is easy to get immersed back into the story, but you can't come into this world blind.
The fae dance...seriously one of my favorite scenes ever written. When I first read Neon Blue, I remember thinking how genuine and realistic the magic system felt. EJ made me believe in witches and magic and Blood Yellow has more of that whimsical almost magical realism imbued in it. It really is fascinating to read. All the demon lore is intriguing and I have no idea where the author conjures all this stuff from. From the way demon rules work to the actual descriptions of Hell and demon politics...my brain just went poof. It's why EJ is a master story teller and I'm here just to admire her work.
The way EJ writes spice is also one of the reasons I'm a huge fan, so I was slightly disappointed that we got three peppers instead of five (Neon Blue was way spicier), but it wasn't anything that affected my love for this story. Just made me appreciate this couple more.
I'm sad to leave this world for now. It became my comfort read whenever I had a free moment to myself away from the madness of the real world. Hopefully, Ms. Frost won't leave us hanging long for book 3. I don't think I could stand the torture.
I loved everything about this story and Tsara's world. Her friends and family with their fierce loyalty are woven into a patchwork of love, magic, the 4 Elements and every emotion and several types of beings. I absolutely adored Jou, even when he was his most arrogant self because he loved Tsara with a love so big it could not be contained. Everything that Jou suffered through and the guilt Tsara felt just broke my heart. Please write more about their love, their friends and family, and future battles they may encounter while on The Hill...it was fantastic!❤❤

I’m really between a 3.5 and 4. It had been a long time since I read Neon Blue so as I type this, I realized part of my disappointment with the book may just be bc I don’t remember the first book at all. It just seemed so chaotic in the introduction of new characters that didn’t seem to add value to the story and left me feeling very confused. I wish the story flowed better over all. I did like the chemistry a lot between J&T, but that ending? What the heck!? And then a paragraph as an epilogue?! 😑
The second book in the series, Blood Yellow came in with a bang and continued the action and excitement all the way to the end. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! I've loved every book I've read by E.J. Frost but this series is my new favorite!!
You have no idea how happy I was to see this book. I was even happier when I read it, so huge hugs to EJ Frost for more Tsara and Jou goodness. (And yes, a demon can be full of goodness when he's this incredibly, well, Jou.
Now I want to go back, re-read Neon Blue, and then re-read Blood Yellow, and wait patiently for more. There will be more, right? Right?
Thank you so much to readers who have stuck with Tsara and Jou's twisting journey!

If you make me wait as long for the third book as you did for the second, there will be hell to pay.
Ehem... Was it worth the wait? Yes. Was there enough of it? There will never be enough of Jou, so, no (though it was nice and meaty like her books always are). Overall, though, another solid five star from EJ Frost. The world building expanded, we learned more about the players, got some much needed resolution, plenty of smegxy times, and all the action and paranormal conflict you could hope for. Fabulous!
I couldn’t wait to start this book after the ending of Neon Blue and EJ Frost did not disappoint. We get to see all of our favorite characters from the first plus some new faces that quickly became some of my best-loved characters. Jou’s sisters visit and they are well demons, each with their own attitude and views on everything and they have no problem expressing themselves. Tsara also made some new friends and meets a cousin for the first time. I love how all of the characters play an intricate part in the story line. And I love how the story unfolds, it’s truly amazing. While solving a mystery, I also get to read a love story. Tsara and Jou’s emotions are very apparent and I loved watching them grow and grow together. They built they’re relationship up throughout this book and it was truly amazing to read and by the end, I was cheering them on. Of course, there are some problems in the way which lead to one big problem but together I believe they can overcome anything, even this. I can’t wait to read the next book, it’s going to be amazing, I just know it. In the mean time I need to work my way through some of her other books.
The core of the story is solid. Unfortunately the plot has enough holes to bother me a lot and most of the secondary characters in this half of the story kind of came out of nowhere. The book needed to either be pared down to one tight standalone or expanded to an epic length that actually fleshes out what's only touched on.
Oh, and as far as that ending goes it's a giant WTF. Too many questions and not enough answers.
I know it’s been years since this was published. I hope one day the author finds her muse and the time to continue this story. It’s so well written and the world building is incredible! I love all of the Bevvy books, but it’s so much better to see Jou and Tsara story first hand!
