Welcome to Takoda Outreach Center. Prepare yourself for open hearts, a full belly, and all the love you can handle.
How did my life get so complicated?
Starting a food pantry, my heart’s deepest desire, was finally happening. . Fate has funny timing. With my dream coming true, I find myself responsible for two homeless boys with deep secrets and their sassy “guardian” who isn’t talking either.
That would be enough to handle without my weekly hook-up, Officer Marcus LeBleu, sniffing around. Does he need to be hot and perfect? Volunteering his time and services is great, but again…timing.
Everyone adores him, conspiring against me to nudge us together. But only I know the danger I face if he finds out about my secret roommates. The one thing I know for sure is these kids need to be mine—safe, warm, and fed. Trusting Marcus is a risk, jeopardizing his career and my heart if the secrets come out. Not taking the chance on him might be the real mistake though.
This third book in the Takoda Outreach Center features one snarky teenager who will steal your heart, a little boy who’s excited to have a best friend, and a dorky forklift operator. In Sammi’s low-angst, super-sweet world, hugs are freely given and happily-ever-afters are guaranteed. Possible trigger for references to off-page sexual abuse of a minor.
Previously titled Fisher’s: No changes to the original manuscript have been made.
Sammi Cee was raised in a family of readers. Summer vacations consisted of a good book while sitting lakeside from as far back as she could remember. After growing up and having her own children, her appreciation of how the written word could transport you on an adventure, bring you to tears, or give you hope, took on a whole new meaning.
These days Sammi is watching her children develop into fine young ladies while doing the things she enjoys most: drinking coffee, eating chocolate, and writing her own stories.
I loved this book. Actually, I’ve loved this entire series. They are such sweet wonderful stories. I’ve gotten so invested in all the different characters. I can’t wait to start the next book.
I’m going to warn you now, PLEASE be aware of the trigger warning in the blurb. It happens to two different characters. Some is descriptive, some is implied, but all is horrible. If it’s a trigger, please be careful. I was very curious about Fisher’s story when I read about him in Jasper’s. I was also curious about the boys Miss Emma was watching along with Jasper. And in this story, I have to tell you, you better have tissues handy. Because this is a tough one. I had a feeling Fisher’s story was going to be rough, but I didn’t realize how bad. Growing up, Fisher knew what true hunger was. Between his mother and father, he never had much to eat because they were too busy doing other things. Fisher later learned about drugs and how bad they were hooked. All he knew then, was to hide from the danger of his father’s anger and to be hungry. But one day, the police and a nice lady came to take him to a new place. And things changed drastically for him for a bit. Until he met Jonathon and Avi, who became his best friends. And they all agreed they would pay it back. It became their dream. But it was certain people that would get to them more than others. Miss Emma and the boys were one set. But Fisher was stuck between a rock and a hard place. After meeting Marcus, who is a cop, they started getting close. But how can he have a cop around him when he’s trying to protect those boys? And Fisher is left with a choice. And one that is breaking his heart. Fisher knew the look in the older boy’s eyes. He knew it all too well. Archie had been through something. And his brother PJ, didn’t quite understand. He was just scared and stayed glued to Archie. And Fisher knew he had to step in. He knew Miss Emma was trying her best, but with the weather alone, it was too much. And my heart broke. Gah, I sobbed through this book. Because I see things like this every day in real life and I know the looks of these people. And wish I could help like Fisher and his friends. But what really broke my heart even more, is Fisher had finally let his guard down enough to start allowing Marcus in his life. But he knew he had to protect the boys more than have something for himself. And that killed me. But it made me so proud as well. Fisher’s life could have turned out so differently because of his past, but what Fisher really is, is the most selfless, honorable man everyone knows. And they don’t even know half of the stuff he does for others. Oh, Jonathon and Avi have figured most of it out and have made it easier on Fisher as they can, but Fisher is a sneaky little booger. Because he knows what it’s like to need. And he’s determined to make sure those he knows have all they need. And I love that Marcus sees him. Fisher tries to hide it, but between little snippets Marcus catches by ear and by what he watches, he sees more than Fisher thinks. And all he wants is to take care of Fisher the way Fisher cares for everyone else. Fisher is a special man and one worth getting to know. It doesn’t mean it’s easy. Fisher’s past makes it hard. And although Marcus’s past isn’t the easiest, at least he knew he had love and a home. And he wanted that with Fisher. And those precious boys. It’s a rough story, it really is. But it’s beautiful in the end, because the work being done makes it worth it. Because it’s earned. Trust is earned. Love is earned. And it makes the rough days better because at the end of the day, the work makes it worth it all.
Everything happened really fast, there were stuff that was skipped and because of it I was not in tune with the characters and their feelings. Some of the descriptions lacked but the story is heart-warming nonetheless and I loved the boys.
I've liked the last two books from this author, but this one felt short in every way.
4.5 Stars. This book made me tear up in all the best ways.
For a low-angst book overall, this still was a bit heartbreaking in places (see trigger warning). The relationship between Fisher and Marcus, though - how they respect each other’s needs and boundaries and the care for each other - is everything. Fisher’s choice at the beginning comes from a place of love and concern and is completely understandable. No bad guys, no bad decisions. Still, it tugged my heart watching the two work their way back to each other. Honestly, I couldn’t see a way out, but Sammi Cee navigates that early bleak moment and their path back beautifully.
Every book in this series is a stand-alone, but I still felt that reading book 2 would have helped (I had read the first). The resolution fell into place a bit too fast and off-page for me, making me wonder if reading book 2 fills in the few gaps. Otherwise, this is an immensely satisfying read - so much sweetness, so many happy feelings.
I love this series. The friendships, the found family and especially how everyone watches out for each other; it gives me the warm fuzzies. It’s also full of some of the most amazing and beautiful souls you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting, but Fisher and Marcus, oh my, they are something special and extra. Parts of this book made cry—happy and sad tears—but all of this book stole my heart.
“He hadn’t only embraced me, but my life, my dreams, and my boys.” I loved the connection between Marcus and Fisher. They have a tangible bond, smoking hot chemistry and my vote for breakfast in bed every day. I wish I could reach through the pages and hug everyone in this book starting with Fisher and ending with the boys. An amazing, moving, eye-opening book and series that will make a lasting impression on your heart.
I couldn’t not give this book five stars after hurting me so badly 😭😭😭
I’ve met Fisher and Marcus before, as I’ve read Archer and PJ’s stories, as well as those of all their friends, but I was ready to cry after just the prologue of this one, reading about everything Fisher went through as a child, even the stuff that was implied, and reading about abuse from a child’s POV was absolutely soul destroying!!! 💔💔💔
Marcus and Fisher though… they’re so good together. I absolutely adored them. I loved that Fisher would do anything to keep Archer and PJ safe, and I loved how Marcus handles that once they reconnected. Hearing Archer tell the grown men about his own abuse, even knowing it due to having read a book from his POV before, it broke my heart again and I just felt so awful for him having been through everything his aunt put him through 😔😔😔
The ending, though, was perfect, and I’m so glad I already know how their stories will play out in the future; if not, I definitely would’ve moved on to read their books/series asap after this!!! 😁😁😁
“Age has extremely little to do with anything that matters. The difference between one age and another is, as a rule, enormously exaggerated.” ~ Unknown
Jasper, of ‘Mansions & Motorhomes’ by Sammi Cee, hasn’t had a good life. Although he adored his mom, his stepfather was never good to him. He made it very clear that Lackland was his favorite and that he had little use for Jasper. His mom knew about Jasper’s mistreatment and tried to make up for some of it with frequent dinners at a local diner. When his mom died, Jasper’s stepfather threw him out of the house even though he was only fifteen. When the owner of the Takoda Outreach Center realized that Jasper was homeless, he took him in. Not only did he give Jasper a job, he gave him a home with him as well. For a few years, things were great, but when he died, it was just a matter of time until Jasper was homeless again. He lived in the house as long as he could, but when they came to sell the house, Jasper ran away
Jasper is taken under the wing of a homeless lady his boss frequently fed who already has two boys in her care. She is fiercely protective of them as well as Jasper when he joins their ragtag family. Jasper appreciates not being alone and vows to protect them as much as he can. He starts working at the Takoda Soup Kitchen and he goes out of his way to hide his homelessness from the people there even though they figure it out almost right away. They do as much for him as possible, providing him with clean clothes they call a uniform and a place to wash up including soap, shampoo, towels, etc. Jasper pretends not to know what they are doing for him, but when it comes to staying with them, he flatly refuses to tell them that he has to get back to his family.
The center hires a new cook, Caleb, who has lived a life of privilege. He left a prestigious job as a chef at a high-class restaurant to come work there, hoping to reduce his stress, but mostly he is trying to get away from his controlling family. He doesn’t have a clue about homeless people. At first, he and Jasper don’t get along, but everyone else can see their simmering looks and obvious sexual tension. One freezing night, Jasper is left without somewhere to stay. Caleb goes out looking for him. Eventually, he finds Jasper in an abandoned car near the center. He brings him inside, then convinces him to come to stay with him for a while, at least until the bad weather breaks.
Jasper’s story delves into a world that, fortunately, most of us aren’t familiar with and hopefully will never have to deal with – homelessness. Sammi shows how people might become homeless, the ways in which they survive, and, in particular, why they feel such fierce loyalty to each other. Even though they are homeless, they fight to retain their sense of independence and dignity. Thanks, Sammi, for bringing light to such an important topic.
What starts as a heartbreaking story quickly turns heartwarming as Fisher shows how he wants to care for those in need in his community, making a family at their outreach centre and even providing a home for three very special people. When Marcus comes into the picture, he shows Fisher that happiness is possible but is cut short as Fisher strives to make the best of the situation he finds himself in and keep Marcus from having to cross lines with his job as a police officer. Fisher and Marcus click straight away with a ton of chemistry that Marcus is eager to chase whilst Fisher remains unsure. Feelings and attraction stay strong even after Fisher breaks things off but Marcus then starts volunteering at the Outreach Centre and helping with their new Food Pantry that has been Fisher's dream since he and his friends first made plans for the centre. He works on breaking down Fisher's walls and definitely gets help from the people at the centre, especially Fisher's best friends who have never seen him interested this way in someone. The ones who really help though, are Archie and PJ who are staying with Fisher. A bond really forms between them and draws you even more into the value of family, safety and security. This is a story that shows the worst of humanity (off page) but then is offset by the best of what we are capable of. It packs even more of a punch when you understand the author's connection to the food pantries and community surrounding them. I cannot recommend this book, series and characters enough. My heart was involved from the start and I really enjoyed throughout the whole story. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
I binged this series in a couple days. The author has made a wonderful group of people centered around what started out as a soup kitchen and has expanded. While you might be able to read this one on it's own, I highly recommend the series as a whole so that you get the overall picture and see how everyone is tied together.
Fisher has been hard to get to know in the other books. He doesn't say much and keeps himself very busy. Here we finally see what he is doing when not at the kitchen and gain a lot of insight into him. I love what caring man he is and how he tries to help as many people as he can after his childhood. I loved that he found a way to get Jasper's family to stay with him and that he did his best to keep them safe. The connection he finds with Marcus is wonderful and just what Fisher needed. I'm glad they bumped into each other and sorted out what was going on. I loved that Marcus tried again and that he was willing to listen and not push Fisher. These two men were perfect for each other.
This book deals with not only homelessness, but also some other heavy topics, so check out the trigger warning at the bottom of the description. That said, this isn't a heavy, angsty book. It's full of hope, connection, family, and love.
Fisher was one of the men who started the Takoda Outreach Center and the food pantry was something that he really wanted to create so that poor people could get food to feed their families. At the same time as his dream comes true life gets complicated as he becomes responsible for two homeless boys with deep secrets and their sassy “guardian” who isn’t talking which further complicates his weekly hookup with hot and perfect Officer Marcus LeBleu. When Marcus volunteers at the centre everyone starts to push them together - can he trust Marcus with the boys and his heart knowing that it will jeopardise his career?
I loved this story with the boys who were adorable in separate ways (after all one was older and snarky and the other was just excited and happy) and the cautious Fisher who has so much love to give as well as Marcus who had his own story but was just focused on Fisher and making sure that he was loved and received the support that he needed. This was easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
** Trigger warning - there is mention of historic neglect and sexual minor abuse.
I love this second book in Takoda Outreach Center. Fisher is very protective when it comes to the people he is trying to protect. He doesn't talk much, but he will give you the shirt off his back. He's very wary of Marcus because he is a cop, but he gets to know him, he sees that there is more to him. Marcus is sweet and very attracted to Fisher. They start off with a great relationship, but Fisher stops seeing him with no explanation. I can understand why Fisher decides not to pursue their relationship because of the boys but after he realizes that Marcus is looking out for his family just like he does. He decides to give their relationship another chance. Their book is sweet, very emotional, and romantic.
Fisher opens up to Marcus romantically one night a week. Marcus is about to ask for more when Fisher tells him he is too busy to continue seeing him. What Marcus, the police officer, doesn't know is Fisher has convinced Miss Emma, Archie, and PJ to stay at Fisher's house. Fisher is aware that Archie and PJ are run aways and sacrifices his relationship to keep them off Marcus' radar. Will the two give up their happiness?
Well written story and well developed characters! I laughed and I cried and cried!! I couldn't put this book down and read it in just a few hours! Then I laughed some more!
I think this one is going to be my favorite because of all the joy... and love... and HUGS! These 4 guys, and Ms. Emma, deserved so much more than what was their past. Bad people do horrible things to children every day and still yet, our government can't seem to find the time, compassion, or funds to help those that can't help themselves... grrr
Yes, we have programs in place to help with many of the issues that we saw in this story, but they are burdened with too little funding, staff shortages, and antiquated laws that haven't been changed in decades! I could go on for hours, but I am going to try to show some self-control! *headdesk*
I don't think we say it often enough, but I would like to thank all of those who devote some or all of their time to help make others' lives better! Sometimes it is just the smallest thing that can change a person's life from the hell it was to helping someone find a better future... Thank You!
BTW: I don't care what Marcus said, he was perfect... perfect for Fisher! Let me just add, I don't like to do dishes, either! *grin*
This really packs a punch like damn. At one point I had been crying without noticing lol. Such an emotionally resonant story about trying your best to do good despite your circumstances and past, about working towards a better tomorrow for the ones you love. We get the perfect amount of time with the main couple, which is high praise given that a lot of the focus in this book is elsewhere, most notably the kids and their unstable childhoods. I love this cast so much. I have read this as a stand-alone so it was a little difficult/frustrating keeping up with the barrage of side characters, but I just fell for Fisher, Marcus, Archie, PJ, and Emma. Amazing writing for Archie’s character in particular — I was getting a little annoyed by him initially but his past so perfectly explains his defensiveness and fierce protectiveness over his baby brother. This story so beautifully demonstrates the strength of the human spirit to love and care in the face of cruelty and neglect. Do not be fooled by the short page count — this is not an easy read whatsoever.
I liked this book quite a bit and definately more than the first book in this series. Fisher meets Marcus when he's delivering groceries to a shut in and they strike up a conversation, they run into one another at the grocery store a little later than night and start a "dinner and sex" relationship. Fisher is busy getting the food pantry up and running at the Outreach Center along with helping at the soup kitchen and thrift store not to mention he has Miss Emma and two children she took under her wing on the street living in his house and he knows that his realtionship with a police officer can go nowhere. This book was more fleshed out than the last one, it had some conflict, it had some problems, and they were worked out. I loved that Marcus understood how important Ms. Emma, Archie and PJ were to Fisher and he did everything he could to make things better for them all. Sweet and sexy, I really enjoyed this installment in the Takoda Outreach Center series.
From home me less to a forever home - A modern day fairy tale!
I love the theme - everyone is at risk from having it all to having nothing. The story of an incredible friendship that evolved to a family by choice. Their mission to give back to their community. To treat people coming into the soup kitchen like valued humans "guest" and to know them and help them succeed. Fisher is the chief at the soup kitchen and does home deliveries and he just opened his home up to this family. Officer Marcus has tried to get Fisher to keep him only to have Fisher push him away and he doesn't understand. The journey, discover of this story is beautiful. Warning child abuse - so trigger warning. This is a story that reminds people what they have an the gift of kindness helps those you share it with but mostly your soul. MM Romance with a family love. More books please stop over @my2centsbooklover!
Wow! so this is an emotional book in a very good way! It is all about Community and Family!! I cried several times as each of the character's backstories are unfolded and again happy tears as all of them start to weave together as a family. Fisher and Marcus are a wonderful pair. Marcus the Hot and Sweet Cop!!! Just what Fisher needed! I felt very invested in the young homeless boys Archie and PJ.. I am hoping there might be a coming of age first love story for Archie maybe??? Hint Hint... This was the first book in the series I read but now I Have to go read the first two!! To summarize without Spoilers.. this book is perfect for those who love a story about Community and the families you create for yourself, enjoy some sweet sugary moments with a little bit of spicy heat mixed in there too! Enjoy!
I loved Fisher so much. He was good and kind despite how he grew up. We met him as a small child and learned his back story, heartbreaking! He now helps to run a soup kitchen, Takoda Outreach Center along with his two best friends and a whole slew of wonderful friends. He meets Marcus one night when he is delivering meals to people in need. Marcus is a police officer. He and Marcus have an instant connection, great chemistry. But circumstances split them up. This story gave me so many feels. The friendship and family they found was amazing. This was an emotionally charged story!! I was gifted an ARC from the author, thank you so much for letting me read and review. I loved your story! Phenomenal!!
Although some parts of this story were heartbreaking, especially the ones about Fisher's and Archie's pasts, they weren't presented in a overwhelming way. Saddening, yes, but I felt like it was more for showing the paths, rough as they were, they had to take in order to reach the point in their lives when all those paths crossed and they met.
And while I absolutely adored Fisher and Marcus together, the reason why this book is very special is because of all the people at the Takoda Outreach Center, the family they've found together. Thanks to them, how much they care about each other and others, to me this was more than a romance, it was a wonderful, heart-warming tale of hope, affection and all forms of love.
Another outstanding addition to the Takoda Outreach centre series. And it does not lack in the emotional department at all! Fisher and Marcus have a heartbreakingly tender story, and I cried my eyes out over pretty much everything. From Fisher's painful past, to the heartbreaking story of Archie and PJ, and even Marcus after Fisher cuts off their burgeoning relationship. But through all this sadness, there is so so much love and hope. Everyone is family to one another and the way they support each other is absolutely beautiful. It makes you really think about life and how you view those around you. I was deeply touched by this wholesome story, and I cannot wait for Karami's next!
Love this series and I've been waiting for Fisher's story and what an amazing and heartbreaking one it is, to his painful past at which I cried to and is work at the centre with is friends where he loves helping and looking after people, and then he meets Marcus who's a police officer who's come to help out these two together are something special and amazing and add to the mix are Archie and PJ two special young boys who's own story is emotional, who's come in to there lives this is one big happy family everyone looks after each other, and Sammi Cee does an amazing job of pulling you into this story can't wait for next one.
Read the first two they were great but this one was so much more powerful and from the start it was good.
The opening of this story was brilliant. It was really like seeing it from a little kids view, it blew me away.
Fisher and Marcus really complimented each other beautifully and you really feel there love for each other.
Fisher made a great dad and Marcus was the protector. Archie and PJ’s story was so sad, but so glad they found family. And beautiful Miss Emma was so strong and brave, wished I had her for a grandma.
A truly emotional, feel good story rolled into one. Just loved it. The cover is soo hot.
This was such a wonderful read. I read Archie and PJ’s story before this but wanted to go back and read how they got with Fisher and Marcus. It was so sweet and sad. Sad because of what the boys had to go through and sweet because Miss Emma, their ever protecting found grandma and Fisher who was willing to sacrifice things he wanted to protect these sweet boys. Also Marcus finding out and then stepping up to keep everyone safe and together had me wanting to cry. Sammi Cee did a marvelous job with this story. A 10 star ⭐️ rating but giving 5 stars ⭐️ as there is no ten to give. Well done! 💜
Fisher has not had an easy life but is determined to help others. Marcus has suffered loss but had a supportive family. As these two come together, they must figure out how to move forward while keeping a new family safe and secure. You will find yourself tearing up as well as chuckling at times at the interactions between them.
This story has so much life in it that you will find yourself wondering where the outreach center is and the characters are so realistic that you will want to meet up with them. I am looking forward to more in this world.
This first portion of the book as it spoke of Fisher’s early years was heart-rending. I can see why his heart is so soft and passionate toward homeless and hungry people. His relationships with the homeless teenage boys was so sweet to see, and his romance with Marcus was pretty tender to see. The Takada Outreach center is a place of wonderful surprises and great characters. The author develops each character with depth, humor, and vulnerability. It is now a favourite of mine! This ARC was provided in turn for an honest review.
Having enough food to eat is basic for survival and it's a life passion for Fisher to ensure others don't have to endure what he did as a child. So when the chance to expand the soup kitchen with a food pantry service evolved he was all in. Meeting a hunky guy who seems to understand his desire to help people is a bonus. But it gets complicated when he invites a small homeless family to stay with him and realizes his boyfriend being a cop could be a problem. Can he really have all of his dreams come true?
