They were both filled with regrets over the night they accidentally wound up in bed together. When they realize the chemistry is real, the fun begins...
Tanner has never forgotten the night he let his impulsive nature get the best of him... or the look on Ryan's face the morning after. He was certain he'd blown any chance of turning his fantasies into reality. When he's forced to face his brother's best friend, he has no clue how much his life is going to change.
Ryan kept his life packed into different boxes. When he was back home, he was the All-American boy next door. No one knew how much he craved hearing a boy call him Daddy. But it wasn't any boy he wanted... it was the one man he needed to stay far away from. There was no way his best friend would give them his blessing if he knew all the things Ryan wanted to do to Tanner.
The moment Tanner confesses to wanting all the things Ryan has to offer, what was supposed to be a weekend of exploration turns into something neither of them can give up. Will Ryan find a way to help Tanner become the boy he's meant to be with them living on opposite sides of the country?
Understanding Desire is the second book in the Club DeSires series, part of the kinky town of Annandale. It features a tender yet twisted Daddy, a boy with an exhibitionist streak he didn't know existed, and a host of friends who can't wait to corrupt Tanner's mind.
Note: This story is an expansion of Ring in the True, originally available as a free short story. The beginning has been expanded, and the story continues after Ryan and Tanner ring in the new year with style!
The story was interesting and well written, but I was a bit surprised that it seemed to take up right where book #1 left off...lucky that I had read book #1 or I would have had many "what the heck" moments:) I even checked to see if I had accidently bought book #1 twice, although that is a bit difficult to do on Amazon since they throw up a sign that tells you when you bought a book if it was bought from them. This book frustrated me from the start. How in the world can you have a relationship, much less a successful one, entirely by long distance? I realize that there are circumstances, like military service and family crisis's that put a relationship temporarily on a long-distance plan...but deliberately...and what seemed like forever? Even by the end of the story, Tanner and Ryan hadn't moved any further along.... not one inch. With that one big issue, this, for me, made the story incomplete...not to mention the ending.... that was it...the ending...it, well...just ends. Ryan is a "Daddy" in need of a boy. It seems that was his main reason to stay away from Tanner, (??). That made no sense to me either. That made about as much sense as trying to go swimming without getting in the water. Ryan had money invested in Club Desire...his kink and his club were important to him...yet he didn't even visit Ryan or his club, not even once. I love good BDSM books, and I know that they don't all take place where you would expect the kink to be practiced, but if you had invested money in a place wouldn't you at least go make sure that it still has four walls and is still standing?? I just felt that a lot of things were left out and some left hanging in this one. I liked the story enough for 3 stars, but if Quinn Ward wanted us to Understand Desire, she missed the mark here...and that is also a surprise with this author. She's good writer and I have really loved all her books.... but with this one that "feel good feeling" just never really came.
Enjoyable read but I found the timeline to be a bit wonky because it sort of ends where book two began. It would have made for sense to me for this to have been book one. And then in the second half of the book, it took Tanner a bit too long I think to realize he wanted to move to be with Ryan. So that, plus the timeline, made this one just okay for me and book one better. I will definitely check out book 3 in this series in addition to other books by the author.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. There will be spoilers ahead. * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * First, let me start by saying I love Quinn and their approach to kink. I've enjoyed just about every book they've written. This was a well written story. I loved getting to know Tanner and Ryan after meeting them both in Mav's book (book 1 in this series) My issue with this book is that the entirety of their relationship in this book is long distance. Even in the epilogue, they hadn't moved Tanner to live with Ryan. With that one main issue, this feels like an incomplete story to me...not to mention Quinn just ends books, but I've come to expect that from their writing.
Ryan is a Daddy. It factored in his decision to walk away from Oregon and move to the east coast. It was also the main reason he had stayed away from Tanner. We know that he's an investor in Club Desire and that his kink and the club is important to him. I'm really disappointed that Tanner didn't even visit Ryan or the club while they were apart. It feels like a missed opportunity. I know that not all BDSM themed books need to happen in a club, but when you're part owner, it seems like that would be an important part of the story.
I'm sure we'll see them in the perimeter of the next story, and maybe there will be a bonus scene, but I wish the epilogue was after Tanner's move and included a visit to the club...not just an engagement.
*I received an ARC, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

This is the worst Quinn Ward book I've read, and I've read almost all of them. Quinn promised a lot of things within the writing and never delivered. Ryan promised punishments, and we never got to read. Tanner promised wanting to explore scenes, and Quinn never followed through. There was a lot of talk of the future, but the book ended before we got to the actual good part. I feel like there should be a part 2 to Tanner and Ryan. The only thing the book focused on was the past, Tanner's mom, and the long distance. The book built up to a lot, and fell short every time. Don't waste your time, and if you don't have Kindle Unlimited, don't waste your money.
I enjoyed this book but found the timeline to be very odd since I’m guess all three books timelines run at basically the same time period. I think that this book should’ve been book 1. I thought Tanner got over his anger at Ryan way too quickly considering it had been 6 years but what do I know. I liked that this was a second chance romance but I didn’t really get to see much of a connection form on the pages considering Tanner and Ryan spent most the book apart but they’ve known each other for years so maybe they don’t need to form a connection because they have a lifelong one, even if they haven’t seen each other in ages. They were only together for a week for Tanner’s older brother and Tanner’s best friend Haley’s wedding and Ryan was best man. Ryan had to go back home to Annandale and Tanner wasn’t ready to go with him even though his family, well really his mother doesn’t accept him for who he is, at least his brother’s trying after he finds out that his best friend is not only gay but with his little brother Tanner.
I found that this book mentioned a lot of different things that Tanner would want to try and about Ryan punishing Tanner but none of it was actually followed through on. Tanner started to annoy me during this book with how he couldn’t blo*dy make up his mind about moving to Annandale to be with Ryan. Yes, I can understand he was worried as they’d only just reconnected. He started using having to keep looking after his Nana after her stroke as an excuse to stay. I still done’t understand why as if he moved he’d have his friend Mav and Ryan but then he’d have to leave his family, his Nana was awesome and his brother was trying and that’s great and I’m glad his dad finally showed Tanner how much he cares about him but he’ll miss him but as long as he’s happy then that’s the main thing even if his wife wasn’t on board, she’s a complete b*tch. I’m looking forward to reading Danny and Blake’s story next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Okay, I read an abbreviated version of this which was free and GR decided to delete it since it was free (thanks GR - as if those aren't real books) and when I read it I remembered enjoying it but it just stopped with them having only reunited for 48 hours or so and it felt unfinished.
I accidentally stumbled on this longer version on Amazon and this made up for my complaints about the first one which was just that it ended as they were BARELY getting started. This continues on from Tanner and Ryan connecting at Tanner's brother's wedding. But Ryan has to go back home and they decide to try long distance because Tanner is not ready to commit to moving. Despite saying he doesn't care what his family thinks of him (his mother is a piece of work) he doesn't want to disappoint anyone. They do long distance for a bit and just when he's ready to move, his grandmother has a stroke and his mom volunteers Tanner to look after her.
After some pushing on his friends/family side (he doesn't want to be a kept man) he finally pulls his head out and decides to move. This is pretty kinky, kind of humiliation kink and daddy/boy with Tanner taking to everything like a duck to water and the fact that Ryan (brother's best friend) grew up with Tanner he knows him well and what he's like, so there's not a lot of "getting to know you" so they move pretty quick.
So the expanded version is way better than the shorter freebie.
I wanted to love this story as much as I did Dressed in Desire, but it just didn’t work for me.
There were instances of actions being repeated: ie a character toeing off his shoes on one page and kicking them across the room on the next; and the subsequent sex scene was just confusing, so I skipped ahead.
Next, Ward writes that Tanner & Nana have a special relationship, but she’s not mentioned at all until the book is more than halfway done. Wouldn’t she have been at the wedding? It was her other grandson getting married after all. Wouldn’t she have been even a partial buffer between Tanner and his homophobic family?
Also, the overall timeline between both books is confusing. In book 1, Ward wrote that Tanner put in notice on the apartment lease when Mav moved away, but then in this book, there were still 2 months on the lease when Tanner decided to move.
Lastly, outside of Ryan’s involvement in the club, and the Daddy/boy dynamic, there’s literally nothing truly kinky on page. There’s a whole lot of talk, but it’s all theoretical.
Also, how does a 27 year old manage to “save” so much to be an investor in a club like this? Did you forget to mention his trust fund?

Understanding Desire is the second book in the Club DeSires series by Quinn Ward. Another book in the Annandale setting, I love this fictional setting.
This tale is smoking hot, with lots of controlled demands, sex toys, and risky moments.
Tanner and Ryan are reunited and brought together by some nicely done forced proximity. They have some past issues to deal with, but soon agree to a weekend of daddy dynamics.
With them having a long distance relationship, there's lots of steamy phone moments and built up tension.
There are some family issues, as Ryan's brother is Tanner's best friend. There's pressure to stay long distance, which prolongs the tension and longing.
I enjoy most of this book, but I didn't get any of the club scenes I wanted. There was anticipation and teasing of it, but the story ends before we ever get one. I was left wanting.
I definitely enjoy the way the author writes, and the storyline is definitely enjoyable. I am always excited to read this author.
Understanding Desire is a good addition to this series. I hope we get to visit with the club more in the next book. But basically, I can't wait to see what comes next no matter what.
This book was dumb. It was just dumb. I hated everything about it.
It’s like the stupid relationship fixed all of Tanner’s issues. He was no longer upset that his family didn’t accept him. He didn’t feel a need to act out. He was okay with anything life hit him with. Ugh. That was so stupid.
To make matters worse, I can’t even feel the chemistry between Ryan and Tanner. I literally had to skip through the sex scenes because they were so cringey. That’s definitely not what you want from a literal romance book.
What I wanted was an emotional, BDSM-filled best friend’s brother romance book. What I got was a story about a bratty dude who got with the emotionless friend of his homophobic ass of an older brother. I have been literally searching for forever for a book like the description described it as, but I was sorely disappointed.
I’ve read them all and it just keeps getting better. I thought Ryan and Tanner’s story was good when it was just a short read but now that it’s been expanded and much more in depth I absolutely love it. Having read Mav’s story seeing the flip side of things made it even better. I feel even more connected to them all. I can’t wait to see what happens next. There’s a reason this author is a favorite of mine. When they started writing about Annandale I knew great things would come but I am so blown away by the many connections and roads it’s led to. When you add that to their other work you can see just how amazingly talented Quinn is snd how lucky we are they share it.
Absolutely loved this book When Tanner had to go to his brother wedding, Ryan picked him up for the 3 hour drive. They had not seen each other for years after Tanner had snuck into Ryan's bed when he was drunk. He was not looking forward to the drive. When they talked through the problem , and both were attracted to each other they decided to have a weekend together as Daddy and boy. The years they wasted to get to this point in their relationship, but with Tanners mum being discussed with him and his Nan having a stroke, can a long distant relationship work? Can be read as a standalone but worth reading the whole series
I was really excited for Ryan and Tanner’s story after meeting them in the last book but felt a little left down. Tanner quickly got over his anger at Ryan but then spent most of his time worrying about if he was ready or if their relationship was solid enough and it got really tiring. Ryan really was solid as a rock and did everything he could to reassure Tanner and push their relationship forward. The book felt very drawn out, I couldn’t believe that Tanner’s grandma didn’t go to the hospital until near the end of the book which just extended the story more. I will read more books in this series because I enjoy them but this one just didn’t hit the right notes for me.
I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review
I enjoyed this book, but there were certainly moments where I was uncomfortable, especially in regard to Tanner’s relationship with his family. Feeling unloved, and not appreciated for who he is, was maybe just a little too close to home for me, but meeting Ryan again and the care and love he showed was sweet, but I just didn’t get into this book as I had the other Annandale books.
This book links to Club DeSires 1 and it is probably helpful to have read that book first.
I love understanding DeSires kept me in suspense to see if Ryan would give up on Tanner or even move back so he could be with Tanner. Was so happy Pat put his son before Lillian so he could get a relationship with his son but I reckon that could have something to do with nana Hoping the next book you will see Ryan and Tanner get married even thou the book won't be about them
Ryan and Tanner were so wonderful. We meet them in book 1. I was so excited to see book 2 was going to be their turn. This story was very well written and kept my attention throughout the whole book. The charters are just as wonderful in this book as they were in book 1. I can't wait for the next book In the series. I am addicted for sure to this series.
I enjoyed Tanner and Ryan’s story! I liked how it tied to the first book in the Understanding DeSire series without repeating the story. It’s like they were puzzle pieces that initially seemed disconnected but then fit together seamlessly. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series
This was an okay read. I liked most of it but towards the end Tanner started to annoy the mess out of me🙄 I understood his hesitation but dude if you're so in love, nothing will stop you from being with who you love. Especially since you loved this person since you were a teenager. The daddy kink was okay too but only in the bedroom🤨.
I love the way Quinn writes his stories. He makes me see, hear, and feel every emotion like I'M IN THE STORY! This series takes place in the same town, Annandale, but characters interacting with the characters from the other books. I wonder if there are towns out in the real world that are like these towns? That would be amazing! ENJOY!
Understanding Desire is the second book in the Club DeSires series by Quinn Ward. This book is about Ryan and Tanner. If you read book 1, Dressed in Desire you've already met them. I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, hot and very well written.
I absolutely loved this book. Tanner and Ryan were so perfect together. This was a fantastic addition to this authors world. I love how each book can be read as a stand-alone and yet they are all set in the same wonderful world. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Absolutely beautiful story... love crosses all boundaries including distance and age! I loved how humble Ryan was. I'd always felt like he was a stick in the mud and I loved finding out different.
Whilst not actually set in the fictional town of Annandale Daddy Ryan is one of the main owners of the club and this was a great second chance romance with some very hot scenes as we’ve come to expect from this world
Content warning: this book contains mention of a situation that could be viewed as sexual assault, as one character was drunk and no prior consent was given. The character does not view it as assault.
Wahoo! I’ve waited for Tanner and Ryan’s story since I read Mav’s book. This did not disappoint. The chemistry and emotion is palpable. I loved seeing Tanner blossom on the page.
I enjoyed the story and the character and world building in this book but it had several errors that would pull me out of the story when I would run into them.
