This a first for me!
I can't tell if this story is finished or not? This must be a HFN story- there's so much more that needs to happen. I need the rest of Cassia and Byron's story! A-R-G-H!!! So many questions! There was no real plot suspense they had to overcome except to accept their relationship- which the did- and to leave us not even knowing the woman in the final scene is pure torture! It was engaging, and well written- but this book was truly frustrating! A-R-G-H!!!

An enjoyable story but not a lot happened. When something did occur, there was insufficient detail and you were left feeling the ends hadn’t been tied up. For eg, who was the girl who was attacked by the vampire? What happened with the rogue vampire? There was a curse which was then ignored, but nothing happened and nothing more was said about it. What was the significance of mentioning it in the first place?

I really enjoyed Byron and Cassia's story.
Byron is a wolf who has come to New Orleans to join a group that keep New Orleans safe. This is so important for him because of his past, an wolf orphaned young with no one to guide him through life and teaching him what it was to he a wolf. He learned all on his own and never belonged, never had family.
Cassia is a witch and is a bartender at a club for paranormals. She loves her job and the family she and her co-workers have formed.
One night her life changes as does Byron's. It is the night they become aware of one another. Neither have ever felt the pull they feel toward one another, the pull of fate, of a mate.
So I feel this story is largely about Byron. He has spent a lot of time taming the rage he feels over his lifetime. He has worked so hard to get where he is and where he is going and finding a mate was not in the picture. He can't stop thinking about her though. It's amazing they managed to put off a sexual relationship considering the steam wafting off of them whenever they are around each other.
Cassia has her issues also but she is more willing than Byron. She had a curse placed on her by a witch, because she didn't reciprocate his feelings, and that curse was that if she found love within 100 years, something tragic would happen to that person, she still has a year to go...at the same time, she has never feel as cared for and protected as Byron makes her feel.
Although there is really not any real "action" I enjoyed the story because it was nice to see this couple slowly ger ro know one another, to care about one another beyond the mating pull. We do get a HEA for this couple but there is also a lead in for the next story.

For once I am starting a series at the beginning and this one is going to be good.
Cassia is a bartender at Club G, an exclusive club for paranormals in New Orleans. She's a talented witch and making some drinks is a show worth watching as is her subtle yet effective handling of obnoxious patrons.
Byron is starting the most important job of his life in the morning, but tonight he is out with the people he would be working with and also getting some training. Gael is leaving the position Byron is beginning, butler for the Stigwards. The position is far more than the word implies. It's a stepping stone to training and the next level of protectors.
From the moment he entered the bar, Byron was very aware of the beautiful bartender. He immediately sensed she's his mate but this was not the time. He can't afford to lose his focus, he'd been working his entire life for this opportunity and he wasn't going to mess it up.
Cassia on the other hand while attracted to Byron isn't opposed to a fling. She also can't fall in love but for another reason entirely. She could however entice and possibly get him to walk her home. Something she succeeds at.
We learn about the Stigward protectors, what they do and how they work. Byron does manage to pursue Cassia but at first he does it as a warning of a danger around the club.
There's suspense and intrigue entwined with the magical setting of New Orleans. The romance that simmers before it sizzles is really just icing on this tale.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

For most of the book nothing happens, and when it does it amounts to nothing. He doesn't want to start a relationship because he's starting this new job that is super important and if he gets distracted people can get killed and then he just... f**** it all, I'll just claim her, she's my mate. And that's it. The conflict is gone. Now, she has a curse that also amounts to nothing because they just ignore it. She just doesn't say I love you and that's it. Even though that was a major conflict at the beginning, that's why she didn't want to get close to him. But they just ignore the curse and nothing happens. There's a vampire on the loose, killing women, and that also amounts to nothing because he gets caught off the page. She finds the vampire attacking a woman, who actually saves herself, fMC didn't do anything, if she hadn't been there the same would have happened. Who's that woman, you ask? Nobody, apparently, because she's mentioned once more and we never see her again. So it was pointless to include that in the story. And that's it. Eight months later, nothing happened. And that's the end. Jeez, it was boring.

This paranormal book has a number of twists that you don't normally find in paranormal books, which makes it refreshing and intriguing. Cassia is a strong, confident witch, happy in her life, until she meets Bryon and realises what is missing, I love that this rattles her and her control on soul deep level. But she doesn't become whiney and needy, chasing him, she tries to work through the puzzle that is Byron and his resistance.
This is a great prequel introducing us to the Paranormal Protectors: New Orleans series, book one of which is out on 9th March. At present this book is a free download.

The storyline is easy to follow, and the background information and character development are enhanced the plot. Some suspense and danger thrown in to add a touch of mystery, and plenty of sizzling chemistry between Byron and Cassia too. This has definitely set the foundation to what is sure to be another intriguing series by Ms Blake and one I’m excited to delve into.

quick fun read
I like the book and the concept. It is a short book, and I’ll be reading the next one in the series. You learn a lot about Byron but I feel like there is a lot left wanting to know about Cassia. I feel like the back story could have been developed more, there is HEA and there is chemistry between the two, just wish I knew more about them so I could be more invested. I believes there’s some real potential world building with the protectors and their secret society but it needs a bit more flushing out which will hopefully happen in the next book.

I really enjoyed this book and the characters and found it hard to put down.
Would have liked a little more description on Cassia and the curse, but this didn't detract from the storyline.

Brilliant

A witch bartender who entertains the customers with flying glasses can't believe that Byron is not just a strong werewolf but really gentle and also good in the kitchen! And they are mates.
It's a bit hard to picture a big muscle man dressed like a british gentleman.

Bryon is an orphan who had no one to help him understand what he is. There was no one to teach him all he needed to do. He learned on his own and survived. His goal was to become a butler in the Stigward house. One night when he was in the bar with his teammates, his eyes met Cassie's. He tried to stay away but couldn't . This is a cute story and could be read in one day.

Wonderful first book of I hope a long series. Cassie and Byron have all the feels, sexy times, tension and a couple of mysteries to suss out. The secondary characters are well drawn and leaves the reader wanting their stories:)

Loved the book...hated the end
The book as a whole was amazing! It gripped you! However, the end seemed to be a sudden stop, almost like they had given up half way through.
