Sometimes, romance is (also) hiding in plain sight.
It’s hard to fill out a dating profile when everything you write is a lie. But in her line of work, Lyra can’t exactly tell the truth. And she’s determined to get over the man who broke her heart by moving on, so here she is, lying on a dating app. Then again, so is he.
Lyra is no marketing consultant, but a plucky undercover operator. Marcus isn’t really a videogame designer, but he is obsessive over codes. Both of them are elite undercover agents, and unknown to each other, are each tracking down the same dangerous double agent. As the case heats up, so does their chemistry…but their mutual desire to come clean becomes more impossible with every lie.
From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nana Malone, The Covert Affairs duet is an action-packed, sexy romp for anyone who ever wondered what really happens behind closed doors.
Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling author, Nana Malone writes Sexy Feel-Good Romance and loves of all things romance and adventure.
That love started with a tattered romantic suspense she "borrowed" from her cousin. It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.
Those two acted more like normal plain people than actually two trained spies / assassins.. There was a lot of things that didn’t add up plus I wanted some actions and I got literally none up until the near end.. And what the actual f*ck was that ending?🤯 Hope the 2nd part of the duologie is better.
Wow, Talk about a page turner. Lyra and Marcus will have you on the edge of your seat most of the time and talk about a cliffhanger. Marcus is a spy/agent for Exodus and Lyra is the same for the Firm. Neither knows the other's true profession or identity. They end up being neighbors in the same building and start dating. As covert agents they continue to keep their identities hidden. They were on a mission to find some members of the Victus gang who were aiming to purchase some dangerous weapons. Fate keeps bringing them together in dangerous situations. Muggings, Assaults, Murder attempts and more. Not knowing Lyra's real identity Marcus feels compelled to protect her thinking he has put her in a dangerous situation. Both are in very dangerous covert careers. Things come to a head one night when they are 'dates' for a covert operation. Things go south and they are exposed to each other. She has orders to take him out or else. She shoots and then..... No spoiler here but an intense conclusion and a cliffhanger. All will be revealed in the second part of this romantic thriller. A great book that was impossible to put down once I started reading. Twists, surprises and drama will keep you guessing. The characters were great and their chemistry was explosive. I read an arc via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
Dance into danger with mindbending drama and heartstopping romance. The queen of twists is back to tempt and intrigue with captivating results. Nothing is as it seems for two strangers with an agenda hiding in plain sight. From cat and mouse foreplay to unexpected attraction, The Spy in 3B will lead emotions on an alluring chase that is as frustrating as it is irresistible.
I love spies, I love Nana Malone, and I just simply love this book! Intrigue, rivals, and oh the sexiness of it all! Just, whoa! I need book 2 right now!
This is only my second Nana Malone book and let me tell you how she has slid her way right into the top of my non-dark romance list of favorite authors!!! It's usually hard for the lighter books to hold my interest, but nope this woman is phenomenal!! I blew threw the book in mere hours it was so entertaining.
Lyra and Marcus are both needing companionship. Their friends keep telling to go out there and get it. So they turn to an app to seek out a date and realize they are actually neighbors.
After a few botched dates that were cut too short, they make it successfully to the end of the night only to have someone they both know from their work try to put an end to it via other means. The inner dialogue is hilarious because they both want to get away to go after the bad guy since they both recognized him.
Think almost Mr. & Mrs. Smith before they were married, keeping the same secret, both afraid to fully commit but totally ready to get hot and heavy with each other. Oh and when they finally do, wooo weee steam!!!
Yes, it ends on a cliffy, but it was a dam good one!!! Can't wait to read the continuation.
I thought this book was incredibly clever and fun. Spies + Modern Dating = A Breath Stealing, Swoon Worthy Good Time. The storyline grabbed and kept my attention easily with its great writing, excellent pacing and energy. Lyra and Marcus were complex and engaging. This duo is cool, capable and crafty, so you best strap in and hang on for one totally epic, adrenalin fueled adventure that is filled with danger, action, suspense, twists, emotion, desire and a ever increasing amount of edge of your seat tension. Just in case you didn't notice, this is only book one of two. So yeah, there is a cliffy and I can't lie, it is a leave you gasping, jaw-dropper of a doozy. Book two can't get in my hands soon enough to make me happy. I am independently posting a impartial review.
When spy meets spy, it's a whole lot of sexy fun! It took a little while for me to warm up to this one, but once these characters started to reveal more of their true selves, it got better and better. I love the concept of two undercover operatives who don't realize that they're working for rival agencies, or even that their new love interest is anything more than a sexy stranger. The chemistry is great, with some seriously steamy moments. And the addition of the secrets and suspense make this series starter fly by. It ends on quite the CLIFFHANGER, and I can't wait to dive back in to see how everything plays out.
The story follows Lyra and Marcus, neighbors who have recently started dating. They've gone out a couple of times, but there doesn't seem to be much of a spark between them, and every date gets interrupted. That's left them in a state of limbo, not quite ready to call the whole thing off, but also not ready to move forward. That is, until their most recent date ends with plenty of intrigue. As different aspects of Lyra and Marcus' personalities are revealed little by little, they discover that there might be a connection between them after all - and they might have a lot more in common than either expected.
Before we go any further, YES, this ends on a major cliffhanger. It's planned as a duet, and I'm definitely left wanting more. This is a solid 4-star read for me, and the best I've read from Malone so far. The story is light and sexy with a kick of action that makes the pages fly by, and the characters are easy to love. Marcus won me over right away - he's sort of a restrained gentleman who you know is hiding a whole other side of his personality. I can't wait to get to know him better. Lyra took a little longer for me to connect to, mostly because she comes off as somewhat naive and inexperienced. There are a couple of elements regarding her employer that didn't work as well for me, but we'll see how that all plays out in the conclusion. Overall, this was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the second book leads. I received an early copy, and am voluntarily leaving a review of this short and suspenseful romance.
Be ready for another witty, sexy and dangerous adventure with Nana Malone and her team of edgy and captivating characters. The Spy in 3B was fast paced, addictive and kept my heart beating so wild all the time.
Lyra Wilkinson and Marcus Black are neighbours who got matched by a dating app. But Lyra doesn't really work for a PR company and Marcus isn't really a video game creator. They are trained special ops working for two separate top secret government organisations. The Firm and Exodus, respectively. Those are enemies and are chasing same bad men. So while they are trying to keep their covers and feelings under control, their paths are set to clash.
So this is the book where you literally chew your nails out thinking when the cat will be out of the bag. I mean when Marcus and Lyra's covers will be blown and the after effects. And the author planned and executed the story so cleverly that I came close to that moment and my heart stopped beating but the crisis got averted. Till the last page. Till that jaw dropping i-cannot-believe-she-did-this king of cliffy. That means I was glued to the pages and was turning them eagerly. Lyra has been added to the endless list of super sassy, super strong and super swaggering heroines created by Nana Malone. She had a rough early life but she has trained herself to be this efficient agent. A bit reckless, a bit impulsive, a lot sharp mind and a lot beauty mixing with heart. And Marcus is the best kind of man. Alpha with arrogant confidence, protectiveness, irresistible charm and rough edge. They definitely have scorching hot chemistry that set the pages on fire. They had this period of dating- non dating and the hilarious yet adrenaline filled accidents kept on interfering. It was slow burn with combustible attraction and I cannot wait for the conclusion.
Nana Malone's sharp and witty storytelling is so unique and it makes every story she writes a special kind of treat. The Spy in 3B is a suspense mixed, passion filled and emotionally charged read.
What a thrilling and seductive start to the Covert Affairs Duet! Lyra and Marcus are neighbors in their apartment building who were matched on a dating app. They aren't real excited about dating at first, until they are mugged one night, and the way they both respond, with skill and confidence, make them more desirable to the other. What neither knew about the other is that they were both spys, working for competing covert government black ops organizations. They were required to find someone to date, and look settled, to bolster their undercover identity, but not to fall in love with them. The more time Lyra and Marcus spend together, the harder they fall for each other. But when an enemy makes a play on them, they want to protect each other, instead of doing the safe thing, and walk away. Their competing organizations believe the other is rogue. So what happens when they cross paths on a job, and their directive is to take out the person they love? This was so fast paced with many exciting twists to this story, and I am so intrigued by the role many characters play! This is a great start to this thrilling and sexy story. I really connected with Lyra and Marcus and the ending left me stunned! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Marcus works for Exodus and is a government contractor & Lyra works for The Firm, a hidden government black ops organization. A different story line altogether, and I loved every bit of it. Even though they have pull to one another, they can’t get close. That’s easier said than done. It’s astounding how they’ve kept their jobs from each other this long. This is a very intense story, with lots of action. A twist at the end and, oh my, a cliffhanger. Nana Malone, you've outdone yourself with this one! Can’t wait to read the second book in this duet.
Ha, ik vond dit echt heel vermakelijk! Veel actie, romantiek en spanning. Ik had het niet gedacht van tevoren, maar ik ga deel 2 ook nog lezen. Vooral na dat einde!
When Lyra and Marcus end up as neighbors and start dating, it should be fine but for the fact that both are undercover agents with competing agencies and competing directives. Hers is to take him out if he gets in the way of her mission. Can Lyra really do that to the man she's starting to fall for? He may not think so, but he could be deadly wrong...
I love this fun, sexy spy vs spy romp! I admit the cliffhanger wasn't as fun as the rest of the story, but I have faith in Nana's ability to write her way out of the big mess The Spy in 3B ended in, and I can't wait because Lyra and Marcus are a great couple who deserve better than that. I'm counting down the days until The Assassin in 5F is released!
This was soo good!! I love everything Nana writes so I knew I was going to love it and now I need more. It was a short read, I read it in one sitting but I loved Lyra and Marcus. They both had private and undercover jobs so they couldn’t tell the other the truth, especially because they both worked in the same line of work but for enemies agencies. They had a lot of chemistry but it was hard for them to have a relationship because both of them knew how risky their jobs were, but neither of them could deny their attraction and their feelings.
Lyra was a badass, she had been working for The firm since her parents died so it was the only thing she knew. She had been burned before so she was reluctant to have a partner until Marcus. At first she found him boring but little by little she started realizing how cool he was, besides he always tried to keep her company and protect her without realizing she didn’t need it.
Marcus was awesome too, he had been working for Exodus for years now so he always knew The Firm was their enemy. When he met Lyra they never knew their paths would cross even more than their personal lives. I was really excited reading about their dates and how they had to come up with excuses thanks to their jobs, but they always tried to get together and at the end they couldn’t deny how they felt.
I always say I’m used to Nana’s cliffhangers but they always left me wanting more and that was what happened with this book, that ending was very suspenseful and I’m dying to know what will happen next between them and how everything will unfold.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I’ve decided something...cliffhangers are just plain CRUEL. I must be a masochist, because I keep reading them, knowing fully that I will have to WAIT & WAIT & WAIT for the resolution. Nana, I love you, but you are killing me. The Spy in 3B was everything that I’d expect from Nana. It was filled with lovable characters that were blissfully unaware of their need for love. Marcus, hurt by his past, resolves not to let himself get involved with anyone again, but his job forces him too. The unfortunate part being that if he does find someone he’s interested in, he cannot be completely honest with her. Lyra, also recovering from a painful relationship situation, leaves her unwilling to trust other men or herself. She too is encouraged by her job to enter into a relationship, but she also has to maintain a level of secrecy. Despite this, Marcus and Lyra find it difficult to deny their attraction and draw to each other. However, their jobs have major crossover and as expected they won’t be able to hold onto their secrets forever. What will happen when everything is revealed? Will they both walk away unscathed? Guess we will all hang out and wait for the conclusion of this story.
In true Nana Malone form, she killed this book! I loved everything about it. Something that I notice with her books is that, with each character, she stays true to their culture and the way they would speak. It’s the details that she puts into her characters that always amazes me. That takes work and dedication, especially when you never falter. She created a book with all the Mr and Mrs Smith vibes and I am here for it. Since Nana was put on the cover of the book Nana is the only way I could see Lyra. Lyra is a fierce badass chick with a soft side she shows for few. Marcus, dear Lord he is just amazing, at his job and how he is with Lyra. I enjoyed the dynamic and growth of their relationship. Then Tyler, that freaking guy. I just hate him. He’s got the whole snake in the grass vibe going for him. This book is full of action, suspense, a bit of drama, and that amazing steam Nana always brings to her books. I loved this book and would absolutely recommend it!
Lyra works for the firm & she is a spy, they told her to find someone to have a relationship with. So she has been going out with her neighbour Marcus, who she thinks is a programmer of video games. Marcus works for Exodus & think is neighbour works in PR. This book is great because you know they are going to find out what the other is doing but not how it's going to happen. Nana has done it again with the twists & turns this book takes, once you start read you just can't put it down because you just what to know what happens next!
This Mr and Mrs Smithesque book will have you nibbling on your nails wondering when Lyra and Marcus will discover each other’s true identities. The chemistry is off the charts but the relationship is doomed from the get go. I do have a feeling though that something much bigger is at play because there are just too many coincidental events and occurrences for things not to be deliberately engineered by someone. So curious to know how this is all going to pan out.
Advanced review copy provided for voluntary review consideration
Lyra and Marcus's story was very entertaining, I love Nana Malone books and this one was not the exception. Lyra is a great character, strong, badass and knows what she wants. Marcus is dreamy, and they both work in the same thing, but they are actually rivals, making this story more fun. The end took me by surprise as I was expecting a standalone and nope, I discovered that now I am going to want more and soon.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Lyra Wilkinson “works” at a PR & Marketing Firm but is actually a spy for The Firm. The Firm wants their spies in committed relationship. Lyra was duped into believing her first relationship was real until he ghosted her. The gig was up and she was finally let in on the secret. Lyra met Marcus Black on a dating app. Just so happens that they live in the same apartment building across the hall from each other.
Marcus “works” as software developer but is actually a spy for Exodus. Neither knows the other’s real job. On the third date, they finally form a connection that is interrupted by a career criminal. Both know who he is and go out of their way to keep each other safe.
This book is the first book in the series and ends in a cliffhanger. Readers will be thoroughly engaged with all of the characters. They are genuine. Readers will also root for this couple. I truly enjoyed going on this journey with them and cannot wait to see where they go next.
Whenever I am in the mood for a highly entertaining, action-packed romantic suspense novel, I always reach for a Nana Malone book ; because I know it’s exactly what’s going to hit the spot. This book is exactly what I’ve come to expect from this author: steamy, a good story, and great side characters. It has a MR AND MRS Smith vibe from the get go, which is a great hook.
The romance between Marcus and Lyra had me a bit worried because it started with zero chemistry, but then it ramped up fairly quickly.
That being said, I kept being pulled out by the story by certain repetitive phrases and continuity errors that I am not sure were part of the unfinished nature of an advanced reader copy.
Hoping these issues are only present on the ARC. Because it is definitely a fun read. This books ends on a cliffhanger, as it is a duet , so be forewarned. I am really looking forward to the conclusion of this story!
What is Nana Malone doing to me? I love her books of intrigue and mystery. Normally we’re with a bunch of royals. This time I’ve been thrown into spy world. Must say I’m enjoying it immensely. First she gives me a guy, Marcus, with a British accent and a nerd at first. Then there’s Lyra, the name alone is magic but shes, fierce, independent, and a badass! I really can’t say too much without giving too much away. I’m just going to say these two are explosive together and apart. This is a first for me usually I don’t mind that there’s more than one book in the series but this time I don’t want to wait. I have to know how this is all going to play out. I can’t stop thinking a bout it. I know all good things come to those who wait but please don’t make me wait too long!
New series, hot spy, badass heroine, ends on a cliffhanger!
Lyra works for a secret government organization. While out on a date she gets mugged but not by some random criminal. After taking chase, she realizes her date is a civilian and needs to let the potential terrorist who mugged her go. Why has all her dates with Marcus ended so strange though?
Marcus who portrays himself as a video game developer has been trying his hardest to appear normal. However, all his dates with Lyra never end how he expects. There’s just something about Lyra though that has him wanting to protect her.
Since I’ve read Nana’s books before, I knew this one was going to end on a cliffhanger and man is it a doozy!! I’m definitely going to be grabbing the second book as soon as it’s available! I received a gifted copy of this title in exchange for a honest review.
It’s all about the details with this author! If you think for one minute that you can speed read her stories, think again! Slow down and enjoy every word! This is a fun story about two undercover spies who live across the hall and are so good at their covers that neither knows what the other person really does for a living.
Lyra and Marcus are simply fun to watch and to observe the antics that throw them together as well as creating havoc in their work life. Working for rival organizations makes things complicated when the assignments begin to cross over. Lots of opportunities for fun and games that lead to some serious stuff with guns and knives and fists. Great summer read with no HEA just yet and a BIG cliffhanger! Nana at her best.
I received an advance copy of the novel from the author for an honest and unbiased review.
