Mason Tyler, a former military combat medic, is driving his truck down the road in the storm when he sees a mostly naked woman on the side of the road. She is in her mid-20’s, shivering and pale, so he takes off his flannel shirt to wrap around her, but she backs away from him in fear. He offers to let her stay at his cabin overnight until the storm passes. Then he will take her to town in the morning, or can take her to the hospital if she needs a doctor. Her story makes no sense to him, but he lets it slide. Her name is River but she’s 300 miles from nowhere and no vehicle in sight. He needs to get her in a warm place and fed.

While he makes dinner, River takes a shower. But she falls, just about ready to faint, and he comes in and carries her to the bed where he puts a quilt on her. He is so sincere that she tells him the truth – she is 4 months pregnant and gets dizzy spells. He knows he is feeling protective of her, but this still feels different.

Mason takes a meal to her and gets her to open up to him to tell him what’s going on. River is on the run for her life from an extremely dangerous ex, Tony Lavaki -- a detective for Queen County in Seattle who also moves drugs in and out of the precinct, taking them from evidence and stealing some. If the drug dealers won’t buy them back, he threatens them with jail time. She had met him when she was 18 and lived with him for 7 years. He wouldn’t let her leave. She didn’t tell him when she found she was pregnant, but she saved a little money every time she bought groceries. When a doctor bill arrived, he found out and found her cash. And when he passed out from drinking, she ran and never stopped. He has cop resources, so she needs to be very careful or he will find her. She gave him many years of her own life, but she will not let him near her baby. Mason vows to keep her safe, but can he? Can she trust this man? Can she believe when he falls in love with her and wants her to stay?

This was a tense story line to follow as the reader hears River’s story. Will she trust Mason to help her? Does she have any other choice now?

Mason is an Alaskan mountain man. He was driving home in a rainstorm and saw something unusual on the side of the road. It was a naked woman who needed rescuing. Mason stops to help her but River is very untrusting. She was refusing to go with him until he made it clear that she had a choice between going to his cabin or to the hospital. Mason is very curious about River. He knows she is hiding something but he still feels very protective. When she starts to trust him, her story makes Mason determined to do anything to keep her and her baby safe.

River has trusted the wrong man in the past. Her last boyfriend especially. He is a bad cop who has done everything he could to keep her prisoner. Now that she has escaped, she will keep on running to protect herself and her unborn baby. When Mason pulls up beside her on the road, she is really drawn to him. However her recent history with men makes her cautious and she has sworn off men for the foreseeable future. The tender care Mason shows her starts to break down her walls. Maybe Mason will the type of man she has always needed

I am a sucker for a hero who is either active-duty military or a veteran, so I was intrigued when I discovered “Mason” by Khloe Summers, a new novella in the Alaskan Mountain Men series. Let me tell you that the title character did not disappoint. After a 20-year career as a combat medic in the U.S. Army, Mason has a deeply engrained sense of duty and heroism, and that is reflected in the way his character develops through the story. He is the strong, ultra-sexy, older knight in shining armor to beautiful River, but don’t mistake her for a damsel in distress. This young woman has guts and strength that make her even more appealing as the heroine of this quick, steamy love story. I’ll be honest: I’m usually a bit leery of insta-love short stories because they often seem forced, or the depth of the characters and/or plot suffer for the sake of brevity. However, that is not the case with this one! With great side characters like Bo and Emery, a little danger and suspense in the Alaskan wilderness, and a little heat with a whole lot of sweet, this read did not disappoint.

Mason is an alpha male, big, brawny, tats, ex military and lives alone in the Alaska wild. He is traveling back from getting supplies and sees a young woman on the side of the road without any clothes, shaking and half dead. He offers her a ride, gives her a blanket and wants to get her someplace safe. Mason was a medic in the army and knows she could have hypothermia and needs shelter and food. This girl is on the run and he wants to help her. River is hesitant and doesn’t trust but for some reason she feels safe and protected with Mason. This is a sweet story about unexpected encounters and where it can lead. It is also about instant attraction, instant love, tenderness, believing, protecting and loving each other. The characters are interesting and unique. I really enjoyed this quick little read.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. Mason a sexy former military medic lives all by himself and lives by his own rules that is until River enters his life. River is on the run from an extremely dangerous ex and really isn’t sure where/who/what to do anymore when Mason finds her naked in the rain on the side of the road. She does her best to explain it all but Mason being military sees right through her and his protective side comes out when he realizes what she has been through. He promises to keep her safe but is it enough for her to trust him and can River finally find a HEA with a good man?

Mason is a former military medic living alone and by his own rules. The day he rescues River from the side of the road changes his life in more ways than one. River's life is complicated. She's on the run from a dangerous ex and doesn't trust her own instincts anymore. Can she trust Mason to keep her safe? Is she a temptation he can't resist? I liked this story for it's dual POV, interesting characters, the sustained level of tension and simmering chemistry. It's a short insta-love with emotional moments, good supporting cast and a satisfying epilogue. Loved Mason's heroic nature and River's need to keep him safe, too. Good mature mountain man claiming and protecting romance!

River was on the run from an over bearing/abusive boyfriend when Mason finds her practically nude a long the Alaskan road side. He convinces her to go with him to his place at least for the night. After a while he gets her open up and tell her story which results in both of them going on the run to go under ground the next day. Mason felt an immediate need to protect River from the moment he met her. Join the tale as they head deeper into the wilderness of Alaska and into insta-love. This was a fast moving, high action read guaranteed to catch your attention.

Mason lives out in a cabin, high in the Alaskan Arctic. Going home one day, before a storm is to hit, he spies a young woman along the road in desperate need of help. The next 24 hours changes everything as they open up to each other. She is in danger so they need to stay alert and move to another area. The characters are strong and determined, willing to risk everything for their friends. The romance skyrockets with intense emotions. Suspense of the threat builds until the face off. Loved the ending and the location. Very well done.

2 stars This book made no sense. He found her stash of cash but she still had enough money to fly to Alaska? She was found naked with no belongings because why?! The reason she gives for being naked is so stupid and why then would she ditch her clothes instead of taking them with her? Bo pulls a gun on them because he is so paranoid and doesn't want to get involved but we are suppose to believe he came to their rescue which leads to him uprooting his entire life?! She is pregnant but is prepared to throw herself into a gun fight at the house. What?! Are you stupid? Do you care at all about your child? You don't know how to fire a weapon. The whole book was like this.

This is a quick read, that lacks character depth and is underdeveloped. There are times where I love a good quick read, but this book is not one I would really thin to pick up again. The characters River and Mason are the star of the show, but they still have so many plot holes in their characters that you are left wondering about at the end of the story. While the HEA is cute and all, there is no real feeling of resolution that I have gotten from other quick reads.

Mason likes living in the Alaska mountains, he never expected to find a beautiful young woman naked and half frozen on the side of the road! He brings her to his cabin and falls for gorgeous River! River is on the run from her ex and knows she shouldn’t trust anyone, but when she meets Mason she knows that they belong together! Even though she has a secret that he might not be happy about! Can they find their happily ever after? Great book that I would highly recommend!

Short story about a gal mountain man (Mason) who finds a gal (River) naked in the rain. Although she tries to explain her situation, Mason sees through it - especially when she is adamant about him not taking her to a hospital to be checked out. As he gets to know her, his protective side comes out and he vows to help keep her safe. There is an interesting mix of characters in the story and thankfully a HEA.

This is the second book in the Alaskan Mountain Men series, it's a well-written fast-paced instalove romance that is packed with plenty of drama, action and intrigue. Mason saves River when she's stranded basically naked in an incoming storm, she's not trusting of people since going on the run from her ex. Sweet and steamy older man/younger woman novella.

Khloe Summers is an exciting writer. Mason: Alaskan Mountain Men gives details of the danger of being out in the wilds of Alaska. Along with the danger, Mason is there to save River from her troubles. They are both caught off guard for their feelings. I was so wrapped in the story I was at the ending before I realized it. This story will keep you on your toes all the way through.

The characters are likeable enough although not much details were given about them. The story is interesting. It has a bit of suspense, danger and action with a happily ever after ending.

Mason...yes, Mason. I loved his bold declaration of loving River until forever turns to dust!!! He checks all the boxes being military, built like a bear and all alpha male on his mountain. Going into protective mode on GO, he proved that not all men are jerks like the ex she's running from. The ex got what was coming to him and they lived their HEA to the fullest!!

When Mason finds a mostly naked girl on the mountain road in the middle of the storm her brings her back to his cabin to warm her up and find out how she ended up like that. River is scared, pregnant and on the run from her dangerous, crooked cop boyfriend. River and Mason are instantly drawn to each other and he promises to protect her and the baby.
