This is the first title of Simon Ward's that I have had the pleasure to read. I must admit that I am not technically inclined nor savvy, and much of that I don't understand, however, Ethan's incredible journey in surviving the horrendous misfortunes that both encompass and engulf him, welded my attention and my comapassion for this interesting lead character. The opening scenes surrounding the horrid discovery Ethan was faced with, could be overplayed or underscored in its writing, however, the author hit a perfect middle that not only shocked me, but touched my heart. I found myself compassionately rooting for Ethan's survival in what appeared a hopeless situation, impossible to survive. I literally cheered him in his immense resistance in denying the fate awaiting him, further applauding the direction he took in rebuilding his life. There are many female encounters, yet that is the way of a young man's life, and the author has woven a colourful tapestry in which Ethan is required to navigate. It is a fast read, and a most engulfing one that I would highly recommend.
If any guy was tempted to stray this book will put him back on track to monogamy. Time to Click follows Ethan and his tortuous love life which lands him in a ditch and left for dead. It's a story of survival, heartache and love.
I recently had the privilege of appearing on Simon's podcast. While I was on there he spoke passionately about his books, which left me intrigued. So, out of curiosity, I decided I would give Time To Click a read.
Now, I have to be completely honest here and say I found it to be an uncomfortable read, but at the same time it was also fun, containing some laugh out loud moments.
The story is set a few years in the future and follows Ethan as tries to navigate the treacherous waters of dating (a perilous thing even in our own time!). Along the way he meets some interesting and often dangerous women and it is from one of these which he receives a life-altering traumatic injury.
Now, it is this part that I found so uncomfortable it nearly stopped me reading. Simon's description of the scene is so imaginative and vivid, it made feel me quite squeamish to the point I had to put the book down and take a breath. Once I got my wits together (and uncrossed my legs) I delved straight back.
I am glad I did, because I was intrigued to see how this disability would affect Ethan's life. Not only that I was interested to see how or if he would get his revenge. How Ethan overcomes his new disability is rather quite funny and I couldn't help hearing Oscar Goldman's quote from The Six Million Dollar Man pop in my head - 'Gentleman, we have the technology, we can rebuild him'
I also must say the way Ethan manages to get his revenge, comes in such a way it is something I didn't expect.
This book is an easy to read, well-written, futuristic thriller that leaves the reader asking for more. Definitely worth checking out.
A great read that kept me turning the pages! I loved going through the different adventures and struggles with Ethan. Ethan is a well developed character that I sympathized with and was rooting for the whole way. I could feel my heart break for him as he tried to navigate his new life and new relationships. Overall, I would definitely recommend this read if you want a suspenseful and thought-provoking read about life and love.
