A snarky two-thousand-year-old psychic. A missing girl case with some unexpected problems. And a flamboyant assistant who is anything but helpful.

For the past two-thousand and some odd years, I've been able to see the past, present, and future with near-perfect accuracy. Okay, that's a lie. I have a big gaping hole in my own past I can seem to get clarity on. For whatever reason, the first twenty years of my existence is a complete blank and I don’t know why.

Then I met Blake Wilson.

Not only is he another blind spot—he’s also a Private Investigator hired to disprove my abilities in order to protect some missing girls they were both tasked with finding. With my psychic gifts on the fritz whenever Blake’s around, everything I've been fighting for starts to unravel.

And worst of all, it’s leading me to the one thing I've always wanted: the key to my past.

Will I be able to get over my deficiencies and show Blake how gifted I really am? Or will the callings of my ancient past cloud my judgment and derail our mission to save the girls?

Who doesn't like a tiny bit of mystery in their life!? When mysteries & psychics are connected, the excitement level fires up to the heavens. Why I chose the novel? For one, the title had the term 'mystery' in it (I am a big fan of these books), the blurb stated 'two-thousand-year-old psychic' & the cover looked so attractive. I wish the writer releases several parts in this category.

I thoroughly relished reading the book. I have never read mystery novels that included mind reading & it tasted like a delightful read. I was cemented to the story & was rooting for Diana during her escapade. After understanding that she's existed for so long, I couldn't help but admire how it would feel like living endlessly & be circled by humans. I so want to explore countries with Diana now! (I know it's absurd, right!)

Extremely thankful to BookSirens & author Carissa Andrews for the e-ARC of the work. I am voluntarily giving my review in exchange for a complimentary print.

DNF at 77%. Yawn. Ancient powerful being who was so broken hearted she asked for all her memories to be wiped out. And her reincarnated lover. I can’t. Just not interested.

Also, her assistant is a cliche of a gay man.

I received an advance review copy from BookSirens for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Just to make things clear from the beginning, three stars doesn't mean that I hated something about this book, it just means that I didn't love it.

The story itself, the characters, were interesting. The pacing was good. I actually thought the first fifty or so pages were great. Then it started to feel disconnected somehow. Things about Diana's life, didn't make a lot of sense. And I'm not talking about her past here, that was another thing altogether, but her present. For example, that thing with Demetri. It was like I was missing a number of pages with context and meaning, like I was supposed to know what happened already.

Then, when the mystery of her past was revealed to Diana, it felt patchy and underdeveloped. It would've been nice if the author used a little bit more color and depth in her storytelling there. Especially when her subject is as rich and colorful as Greek mythology.

Maybe it's the editing problem that could be easily fixed. Something to think about.

I’ve never read a book with an oracle plot line so was interested but this let me down. The plot, characters, and writing were not good in my opinion. Parts of it were confusing and I didn’t like any of the characters much.

Thanks to BookSirens for providing me with an early copy in exchange for my honest review!

🔮 The story 🔮
The book is about Diana, a psychic who doesn't remember anything from her past. When she meets private investigator Blake on a quest to find a missing girl, she realizes he's the only person she can't use her gifts on, and wonders if he might have answers to her past as well.

Can we first of all just talk about how pretty this cover is? I love it so damn much, just like the font on the cover and the first letter of the chapters; I'm way too excited about that lol. I really enjoyed the story! I kept thinking that it would be a great tv-show, with Diana's quirkiness and Blake not really believing in her abilities. Their chemistry was great, and I really enjoyed that. However, near the end of the story, I didn't like it as much. This mostly had to do with the big reveal about her past, I'm sorry, but that came out of nowhere? I like my mysteries more with subtle hints about her past and stuff like that, and although this reveal made no sense. The idea of was mentioned like once in the story, but Blake I hate how out of the blue that was, and I kinda liked the story less after that.

Besides that, I hate how some things are still left unexplained. Like the ritual with Demetri; what on earth was that practice and why did he lose his powers? I hate being left with unanswered questions/unresolved issues, and it might not be important to the story, but it is to me. I just want more information argh!

🔮 The characters 🔮
📞Diana Diana is a very interesting character. At first, I didn't know what to expect of her abilities, and I didn't realize they would be this great! I love how she hates technology, because it scares her - while most people would argue that her gifts scare them lol. I thought that was a funny twist!
I am a bit disappointed with how little information we received about her gifts, I still don't really have a clue on how her abilities work - nor do I really understand her past. I just felt like her past was explained really quick, and I still don't have a clue who everyone is and what exactly happend. Maybe it'll be explained more in the next book, but I'm not too sure. For example, I was wondering why the cave thing called her Pythia, since that's not her name and wasn't her name either? I just don't understand, maybe I missed it? I would've liked more information on the person she was, and what her abilities are and stuff like that.
That being said, I loved her relationship with Blake. I really think they have great chemistry and I can't wait to see their relationship evolve!

🗃️Blake Hmm. I kinda like Blake, especially with Diana, but we didn't really get a lot of information about him. I still don't have a clue about his life, why he's with Aiden, etc. etc. Again, I just need more information. Information that I however didn't want, was him having a goatee ;) I didn't expect him to have one, and I can't say I liked that haha! That's just me being creeped out by goatees XD But I do love his ass and how Diana kept looking at it ;)
I felt like his acceptance of Diana's story was a bit weird too. Throughout the entire story, he didn't believe that she would have psychic abilities, but then she and he was like 'oh yeah of course, that makes so much sense'. Dude? Why on earth would you believe that but not her being psychic?! Sorry, I feel like that wasn't really in line with his character and his believes throughout the story.

🔮 Writing 🔮
I liked the writing style, it was easy to read and quite fun. There were some mistakes in writing, not a lot, so they didn't really bother me. I kept track of them, so contact me if you want to know which ones there were Carissa Andrews!

🔮 Overall conclusion 🔮
I thought this was an original story, but there were some things left unexplained - and I don't really think they'll get explained in the future either. The romance was very cute, and I really liked the characters! I especially loved Ren, can't wait to see more of him! I didn't like the story as much after the big reveal about her past, because it felt a bit out of nowhere and unrealistic (yes I know I'm saying that about a very unrealistic story, but I don't know how to explain it XD). All in all, I definitely do recommend it, because it's such an easy read!

ORACLE is the first book in the Diana Hawthorne Supernatural Mystery series, and we are introduced to Diana and Ren. She provides the readings, and Ren provides the flamboyant comic relief. When a young girl disappears, Diana is able to psychically find her, and provides assistance to the PI, Blake, the parents have asked to help. Diana is amazed to find out that she has a 'blind spot' where Blake is concerned. When it turns out more children are involved, they try to help them all.

I thought the characters in here are wonderful, those that we meet properly, anyway. There are others that are mentioned in passing, even though it appears they have a big impact on Diana (I'm looking at you, Demitri!), and I would love to know more about them and just what exactly happened.

I found the pacing to be smooth and flowed naturally from one scene to the next. Told exclusively from Diana's perspective, we get insights into her thoughts, but I would have liked to have heard from Blake too.

If you like Greek mythology, mystery, and the supernatural, then I can definitely recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end, and am now looking forward to book two being release.

I don't know if it was the narrator or the writing style, but the story somehow didn't have a good flow. Too many jumps, cuts and something just didn't suit me.

New Series

Oracle is the first in what I hope is a long series. Diana is a psychic with a hilarious assistant named Reynaldo and a bunch of blue haired ladies and the lovesick to contend with every day. A heartbroken couple is referred to her in hopes she'll be able to locate their missing daughter. A private investgator who is their friend is called in to help and that's when the story gets better. Carissa is a great story teller of people with powers. This book hits the mark on so many points. I loved it and would highly recommend this book to anyone. Now, I'd just like to tell Carissa, please hurry up with the next book!

I received a free e-ARC from BookSirens in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this!!

This book was pure indulgence, and I have no problem with that. I had a lot of fun reading this (I love telepathy/empathy like powers, and I enjoyed its execution in this), and while I really think this was an enjoyable read, I really don't think it needs a sequel.

I've been sitting here trying to think of something else to talk about, but this was so short I don't even have anything XD

I enjoyed the writing style a lot, and I loved our MC, Diana, though I did wish Blake was a little less forward. I don't much enjoy love interests who act entitled and all-knowing (an issue I had recently with another book, The House of Agnes, which at the point I'm writing this review I haven't finished, but mark my words this was rubbing me wrong), and all 'you know you want me' and whatnot. I don't like that kind of behaviour, it starts sounding a bit manipulative to me, as if you've put it out into the open that the other person definitely likes you, and now they can't really say no to it, can they.

Which is why I didn't completely enjoy the romance. But I still overall enjoyed it.

I loved Diana's psychic powers the most in this book, I don't know if you've read that tumblr writing prompt with an actual psychic pretending to be a non-psychic by passing off visions as deductions, and this one reminded me of that! I find that concept really intriguing, and it was almost comical the way Diana would insist she had powers but Blake would just refuse to believe her and come up with ways as to how she must have deducted it XD

The mystery, while engaging, fell a little short for me in the end. I don't know, in the beginning it felt like the mystery was going to be the main focus of the plot, but by the end, we had a bigger plot to handle, which was okay, but since I thought this was going to be a mystery along with some romance and psychic powers, I was left a little wanting.

On the whole, an amazing binge-worthy read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal mysteries (with psychics), would not mind little focus on mystery by the end, and enjoys romance as a somewhat driving plot point.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Well I picked this book up at the wrong time, I was just going to read a chapter before bed and the next thing I know its 5am and I finished the book.

I could not put this book down, I needed to know what was going to happen. Did they save the girls? Did they get together? Why was he a blind spot for her?

Did I get my answers, yes I did and no I am not going to tell you. You will need to read the book to find out for yourself. I am now just going to be waiting for the next book to come out so I can find out what happens next.

I loved this book

This was a great book and I enjoyed it as the story line was exciting. I couldn't put it down. The characters were very likeable and I fell in love with the lead and her man.

I found this book very atmospheric and could imagine all the places the story visited.

I'm also into Greek history so was delighted to find out the connection.

Great story of love and adventure

Follow Diana as she learns about who she is and her own power. Many would think that eternal love is not achievable however Diana finds out otherwise. With Apollo's guidance and Diana determination no problem is unreachable.

Diana Hawthorne is a Wonderful Character!

I have recently discovered Carissa Andrews and her books. If you haven't tried reading one of her books before start with this one!
It has a main character that pulls you in with supporting characters that have just as much charisma. The plot is a one of a kind updated but still fantasy based with a sprinkle of light romance. Is this a New Series for Carissa? I hope so her last one (The Pendomus Chronicles) was what drew me to her writing.

I really liked this story with all the action and the intensity of feeling between Diana and her temporary investigation partner. I thought it had been well thought out, and the origin story worked really well. This was the first of her non Sci-Fi books that I have read and I will keep an eye out for the next.

To carry this weight a lifetime...

With no knowledge of how one came to be. A burden many would hide from. Yet a life still controlled by unknown variables. Keeps the path followed full of sights and knowledge. Use wisely can be helpful to many. If only it could unlock the secrets of her own past.

Oracle is the first novel in the Diana Hawthorne Supernatural Mystery series. It is a fun introduction into this fun psychic, Diana, as the reader gets introduced to some interesting mysteries and Diana is on a mission to continue to find out more about her past. Diana Hawthorne has been a supernatural psychic immortal for over two thousand years, although her body is permanently frozen in time at 24-years-old. To prevent some suspicion, she tries to say she is a little older at around 27. As one of Helena’s (no state specified in the story) resident psychics, she works closely with her outgoing assistant, Renaldo (Ren) Garcia. Although Ren has worked for Diana for 13 years (almost 14), he never questioned why his boss and friend never seemed to age and just goes with the flow.

During her routine appointments, clients Ted and Lacy Trundle state that their eight-year-old daughter, Esther, is missing and they are desperate to find her. Along for the ride is the couple’s friend, Blake Wilson, a private investigator. (Diana estimated his age to be mid to late-30s, but I do not recall an actual age in the story.) The two are drawn together for mysterious reasons; including physical attraction. To not spoil the story, I won’t reveal the reasons, but I do like how it all was revealed. Blake also is very mysterious to Diana as she can psychically read everyone else in the world, but she is unable to get inside Blake’s head. There is a lot of tension between them as Diana has a difficult time trusting Blake, since she cannot read his intentions. In turn, Blake is skeptical of Diana’s abilities and does not fully trust her. However, the two of them reluctantly work together because they know that they need each other to locate the missing girl.

The novel is set up as a series where there are some pieces revealed little by little, but there are still some unknowns by the end. Some parts about Blake are revealed, but there are still many pieces that are unknown about his character. Diana is similar where the reader knows at the beginning about her being an immortal and psychic, but there are still a lot of secrets from her past, including how she became one. There are other characters mentioned in passing, such as fellow psychic, Demetri, who have some pieces revealed to readers, but others are not. It is a little frustrating at times because I wanted to know how everything goes together, but I realize that this is a series, so I have to hold out hope that all will be revealed later.

The story moves at a decent pace as the two main characters work to find the missing girl that later leads to an even bigger plot. This plot also leads to an even bigger one that helps to set up the next novel in the series. It was a great transition as it seemed to be done with a purpose and gave me hope that this author has a plan for the series and it won’t seem thrown together in the end. I enjoy when authors transition from one story to the next with a plan as it gives me hope that the loose ends will be tied up in due time and in a natural fashion rather than be thrown together just to wrap up the series.

Overall, it was a nice fun quick read that gives an introduction to the characters and ends with a slight cliffhanger that sets up the next novel. The novel ties itself into Greek Mythology, which I enjoyed and I cannot wait to see how it is further explored. Based on the initial introduction to Diana, the ending seemingly can come out of nowhere, but it does seem intentionally written this way. Some authors choose to give more hints along the way, but this author chose not to in this novel. Normally, I would mind it more, but I was not bothered by it based on how it was written. Essentially, if you are starting the series, just know that nothing is as it seems and many secrets seem to all lead to the larger plot for the rest of the series. Generally, this was an enjoyable and easy read and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer.

Fantastic book. Really enjoyable. I was not ready for it to end. I listened with whispersync after purchasing the book and really liked the female narrators voice, her inflections got better as the book went on, l think she enjoyed the story as well.

Wow!

Let me first say, I went into this book not knowing much about the series. I wanted a “psychic detective” mystery, found this book and decided to give it a try. It was interesting at first, and I think in the beginning, it was Diana herself who fascinated me. Blake took awhile for me to warm up to, but over time, it got better. Then, around 30% into the book, I was totally hooked. It all picked up-the plot, the mystery, the growing romantic interest between the main characters, and there was a plot twist. It is totally worth the read. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery, psychics, and Greek mythology. The development of the main character herself was probably the best thing about this book, as the book follows her unfolding personal mystery. I really, really enjoyed it! Well done, Carissa Andrews!
