Familiar Faces. New adventures. New enemies. Two years after surviving a brutal war, Guppy Grayling has transformed from girl to fire witch. Now a Night Ranger, Guppy roams the secret, magical society known as the S.P.M.A., ensuring mischief doesn’t morph into malice. With surviving friends and family leading quieter lives, and the boy she loves nearby, Guppy appears where trouble lurks - her legendary powers causing questionable characters to scatter, desperate to avoid the wrath of The Fire Witch.
I'm the creator of the Kaira Renn fantasy series - a new urban fantasy packed with mystery, action, adventure and, above all, magic.
Set in The Society for the Preservation of Magical Artefacts, it follows the adventures of a young girl who has to learn magic and a lot of other things along the way! The series will contain five books.
I also write short thrillers under the pen name E.G. Ellory.
This is an awesome start to this spin off series! Two years after surviving a brutal war, Guppy Grayling has transformed from girl to fire witch. A character from the original series Kaira Renn we follow her and Conrad and what they get up to after the war. It’s an exciting and enjoyable read and it’s got witches and magic and I look forward to reading more!
Witching Games is the first book of a new series set in the magical world of the Society for the Preservation of Magical Artefacts. The Fire Witch Chronicles follows up on the adventures of The Kaira Renn Series.
This time Kaira’s friend, Guppy Grayling, is our narrator. While Kaira is off exploring other areas of the S.P.M.A., Guppy and her boyfriend, Conrad Kusp have taken jobs as Night Rangers, a sort of policing function that has them cruising various areas of the S.P.M.A. on their Williynx – the large, shape-shifting birds that Conrad flew into battle in the previous series – on the lookout for witches and wizards who are acting suspiciously.
With Guppy and Conrad, we get to visit a class that her brother, Jacob, is teaching for the new school for young witches and wizards sponsored by the Society, which has now recognized its failure to properly educate their young people before admitting them to the secrets of the Society.
We also get to visit some four or five new areas of the Society that we haven’t seen before. Some of them, like the Winter Quarter, are quite as beautiful as the areas we visited in the earlier books of The Kaira Renn Series. Others are more somber.
The big war over the evil Terrecet is over and the Society is supposedly at peace, so there is not so much of the pulse-pounding danger that we saw during the battles. However, the introduction of a romantic element somewhat makes up for it. Guppy sighs over Conrad a bit, but fortunately, she doesn’t feel the need to tell us how hot he is in every other sentence. But Guppy and Conrad are already an item. The real romantic suspense is between two of their fellow Night Rangers, Noah and Lucy, and the object of Noah’s fantasies, Zoe Tallis.
Don’t worry, though. The romantic attachments – at least for Noah, Lucy, and Zoe – are still not very serious. And despite the surface calm, the Night Rangers find that some people are still up to no good. They have their hands full doing their jobs.
Having read the previous books in the Kaira Renn series, I was totally surprised when I started reading Witching Games. I felt like I was being spoken to by someone who thought I didn't understand anything that was being said. I had to look to be sure the type wasn't all spaced out and in caps. Lots of repetition...how many times were we told Kaira was away on her own for some peace and quiet. In some ways it was as if this wasn't going to all be part of the same manuscript. I was reading an ARC so maybe some of this got changed before the book went to press...? The relationship between Guppy and Conrad was cute, really sweet. I kept waiting for Noah's date with Zoe to fail and for Lucy to ask her out because maybe that's why she's always so cool to all the guys in the bar and why Noah and Lucy are just work partners, but I guess not. Too risqué or mature? The two fight scenes were pretty good, but I think these kids are getting a little bit cocky. Especially Guppy. That leads to arrogance and mistakes. It also makes for unpleasant people. Also, it's a bit of a reach for this tough fighter to turn around and want to play with her sweet little boyfriend. The fighting has to have taken a degree of innocence from her, but she's still playing around like she's a kid. Either let her mature in her love life or tone down her John Wayne attitude. They just seem too far apart. I loved the descriptions of Miss Follygrin's mound and the way the magic was used. It made you feel as if you were actually there. You could almost see the glowing lights in the dark and the people below and see the maps forming when you closed your eyes. The first fight scene was very well described as well. You could certainly picture exactly what was going on as Mr. Lindo guided you step be step through the whole thing. Despite my reservations above, I would still read the next book and recommend this to readers for the continuity and fun of it. Recommended.

With the war 2 yrs behind them the children who helped win the war have new duties. Keira has taken off needing some time to herself, Conrad and Guppy are Night Rangers along with two new members Noah and Lucy. Jacob has decided to be a teacher and is training 8 under 18 to see who can make it as soldiers since it has now been decided that youngsters can add to the group. There may be no war but there are still bad witches and wizards that fought with the wrong side in hiding so the night rangers spend the evenings watching for the bad guys. With the help of Noah and Lucy the four make a great team. Out one evening they run into the evening witch, Alice, trying to buy things from Joseph that she shouldn’t have as being on the wrong side. Alice gets away so she is another one for them to hunt down and they rehabilitate Joseph. But things do get bad when a brother and sister team that are in a group that try and rehabilitate Silverwings who have wings that can cut a man in half. The NR’s go to their area and the two do start a duel. Neve escapes and Guppy saves Odin which not only embarrasses him in front of his group but now he is in trouble for trying to kill the NR’s—he also gets away. As you can see there is still plenty for the Society to do. Want to hear more—cause there is a lot more—buy the book, read it and then leave a review I highly recommend this book.
This promises to be an excellent spin-off from the Kaira Renn Series, which was a great favorite of mine. Guppy and Conrad are now a couple, and Jacob is teaching at the Cendryll, part of the SPMA (The Society for the Preservation ) of Magical Artifacts. As Night Rangers, Guppy and Conrad team up to keep law and order in the magical underverse employing their magical talents to protect the Society Sphere from malevs and Gorrah (dark magic).
R.A. Lindo has delivered once again! When the Kaira Renn series ended, I was so sad that it was the end of the line for the brave young witches and wizards of the SPMA but then this book appeared! This series starter has whetted my appetite for another fast-paced paranormal banquet of books full of magical artifacts, charms, spells, battles, and excitement.
This is an entertaining story with some familiar characters from the Kaire Renn series. The author has Guppy and her boyfriend Conrad being Night Rangers searching for rogue wizards and witches. He brings action and humor as well as the romance and moves the story fluidly with his perfectly painted scenes ,delivering a well written and fun book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This is a new series from R A Lindo based on the Kaira Renn series. The Witching Games features Guppy who is Kaira's best friend in the first series. This series is a fun take on what she and Conrad are up to after the war against Ernest Knoll and the Terrecet. This is like reading a young girl's dairy. Guppy is in a romantic relationship with Conrad besides being busy as a Night Ranger. Guppy, Conrad, Noah and Lucy are the new guard keeping watch on the different communities to ensure that there are no wayward witches, wizards or Malevs. We get a look into some of the other realms and travel on a few adventures. This is a much lighter series so far and I found it a very enjoyable read, also note that Kaira is not in this new series. If you enjoyed the Kaira Renn novels this is a good off shoot series where you can go and hang out with some of your old friends.
If you loved the Kaira Reen series, you'll love this first book in a new series. It reads like a diary giving you a fresh look into our beloved character Kaira Renn. It is full of adventure and is a good book to read.

A relaxing read similar to a Harry Potter style book. Guppy and her boy friend Conrad are Night Rangers in a magical realm.Theire mission to find wizards or witches who have gone black. Some humor and romance and some interpersonal action. Easy to read and well worthit.
